Some questions/dilemmas:
Enhancements:
-Accountbound or Soulbound?
-Tied to armor class and armor piece?
-Tied to weapon type?
Costs:
-Transmutation charges, its own currency or no currency/cost?
Market impact:
-How could we reduce the drawbacks of this feature on the market?
-Compensation ideas for negatively impacted players?
The inventory and bank expansion sale dilemma: (this one deserves a little ramble)
Now I imagine some will expect this to negatively impact the sale of inventory/bank slots, but in turn wouldn’t tight bank and inventory spaces reduce the purchases of items that depend on storage space such as armors of different aestetics, toys, travel scrolls and so on?
Personally I experience that the question isn’t “should I buy more inventory slots for additional gear sets?” it is “should I salvage my magi set in favour of more inventory space”.
Do keep in mind that people will probably still have several gear sets in their inventory as they will have different looks, and you don’t want to waste those sweet transmutation charges!
Hey!
I want to suggest, and start a discussion, for a feature to improve customization of stats and enhancements for gear in GW2.
For reference the feature draws inspiration from and builds on the same values as that of the wardrobe and collection system.
I encourage you to come with feedback as to how this may or may not work, as well as come with solutions as to how to make it work. I would be happy to see the concept be expanded upon.
Why?
In the current system you will have sets of gear that are combinations of different stats and enhancements. This is simplistic and does its job, however it becomes crippling once you wish to change things up.
You will have to either override or extract existing enhancements in favour of new ones, and/or you will have to buy a new set of gear. The whole process can be rather discouraging and if you’re like me you’ll just stick
with your berserker gear instead.
This game offers an immense build diversity and I think it deserves a system that can support that further.
Unlock and collect stats and enhancements!
Retrieving a gear-piece at this moment will give you some options: equip, sell, forge, salvage or destroy. What I would like to propose is another option, an option to consume it.
How to unlock stats: introducing consuming
Consuming an armor-piece will unlock its stats in a storage. However consuming the item will also destroy it so that you can no longer sell, forge or salvage it.
What is unlocked and who it’s unlocked for once consumed depends some factors, as can be seen below. These factored limitations are in place to reduce the impact the feature could have on the game’s market.
What is unlocked? (Tier and Armor-piece type dependent)
-Consuming stats of a given tier will unlock the stats the consumed item provided, it will not unlock stats of higher tiers. Example: Rare Magi Gloves unlocks Rare Magi stats.
-Consuming stats of a given armor piece type will unlock the stats for the armor piece type that was consumed, it will not unlock for other armor-piece types. Example: Magi gloves unlocks Magi stats for gloves.
-Consuming stats of a given weapon type will unlock the stats for the weapon that was consumed, it will not unlock for other weapon types. Example: Magi Torch unlocks Magi stats for torches.
Who is it unlocked for? (Tier dependent)
-Consuming Exotic or lesser tier equipment will only unlock its stats for the character that consumed the item. Soulbound unlock.
-Consuming Ascended tier equipment will unlock its stats account wide for its armor class. Accountwide unlock.
-Consuming Legendary tier equipment will unlock all possible stats for its weapon/armor-piece type . Accountwide unlock of all possible stats.
This way ascended and legendaries would still hold value as their stats are not only of higher value, but also unlocks account wide, keeping their niche as alt-friendly items.
Enhancements would be either soul- or accountbound. Runes you would have to consume up to 6 of the same type and tier in order to unlock all effects.
Storage:
The Stats and Enhancement Storage would have its own tab in the bank, where you could view your collection. The collection would have different categories for different stat types, and different equipment types.
Locked stat icons would be the traditional gray, while unlocked ones would have coloured flairs depending on their unlocked tier. Unlocking stats for an armor-piece of a higher tier than the previously unlocked stat for the same armor-piece type would replace it.
The Hero Panel:
Located in “Equipment” it would have its own dedicated “Stats and Enhancements” subcategory.
Just like the wardrobe you press the on the equipment you want to change and are presented with the different options of stats and enhancements available.
Final thoughts:
For long term I think this would be healthy for the game as it gives the players a sense of progression as they unlock and collect the stats and enhancements, while also making gear customization a more rewarding experience.
This system will be an addition to the current system in place which allows them to exist side by side without completely overriding eachother.
I would be interested to know your concerns, suggestions and/or general ideas. I want to start a discussion on this topic.
Notes:
-“Consuming” would probably be better named as “Unlock stats and Enhancements” or something else for better clarity.
-I’m sorry if there something that is written here seems a bit off, or if the grammar is dead, posting this right before going to bed.
TLDR; Wardrobe system for the stats and enhancements of your gear.
Though I also enjoyed the old town cloth system, I can understand why they removed the option to mix and match as it probably added more work and gave more restrictions to what they could make. What I am suggesting however is simply to bring back the starter clothes that we were given on the launch of the game, which is currently imprisoned in a tonic. Just bring the complete set back as an outfit. Despite the limits to personal customization of an outfit, I still love outfits and will gladly throw my gems at them :P
Hello!
I recently stumbled upon one of my good old “common clothes” tonics, and I must say that I really do miss those racial clothes that were given to us. It’s been awhile since the wardrobe changes were added to the game, but I was wondering if it could be possible to add the “common clothes”-tonic back as an outfit. They are all well suited as outfits in my opinion.
I imagine that it could be a great starter outfit, a way to introduce new players to the outfits of the game. It really is a shame that we rarely get to see these clothes in the game anymore, as they further display cultures of the different races.
Let me know what the rest of you think
Hey, is there any chance that we could get the gw1 dances in one or more dance packs? I know it could be problematic to make it work for every race, but i really liked the gw1 dances.

would be awesome.
Hey, i love to customize my character in GW2
I want GW2 to give us an easier way to customize our gear and weapons, go to the bottom of the post to see a quick overview of the features.
There is just one thing that really bothers me. There is so many cool armor in GW2, but if I buy them i will be stuck with a lot of gear that have bad stats and take up way too much space. So i find myself not buying them. Buying transmutation stones every time i want to change the way i look makes me not want to customize my character. Then i find myself walking around with the same gear for months and it gets boring.
What I would love to see in GW2 is a Armor-Skin Wardrobe I once played a game called “DC Universe”, and this game had this awesome Wardrobe which you could gain access to with a single hotkey. In this wardrobe every single armor-skin you have weared would be stored. I loved it. It was easy to change the way I looked. Same for stats too, they would be stored and easy to change.
“What about the transmutation stones?”. I know that GW2 earn quite some cash off the transmutation stones, however there could be ways to profit from a Skin-Wardrobe too Lets say that every Character can store 3 full armor skins in the wardrobe (this would be 3 headpieces, 3 legs and so on, not needed to be a full set). When this one is full the Gem Store could sell additional Wardrobe-space for a reasonable price of gems. I would love this feature. I could be stuck with it for hours and just cutomize armor all day. It would also make me want to buy the armorskins that the Gem Store offers, because then i would not have to buy another piece of exotic armor in order to actually use the skin in combat without sacrificing another armorskin.
This got a bit long, but I hope you understand the concept. I will try to sum it up.
Armor skin Wardrobe features:
- Easy access by hotkey (implemented in the “Hero” tab?)
- 3 Slots of storage for Armorskins (3 for headpieces, 3 for legs and so on)
- 3 Slots of storage for Stats (3 for different runes)
- 3 Sots of storage for Weaponskins (3 Weaponskins for every weapon prehaps? )
- 3 Slots of storage for Weaponstats (3 for different sigils?, 3 for different stats (healing, power and so on))
- Gem Store selling Slot- expanding for the Wardrobe, as they do for bank and character slots
DC Universe use this kind of system, but witout limits of storage.
You can see it here, skip to 02:08 to see how it works
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1q4KO3DoIo
Reasons to implement this systems:
- Easy to customize character, easy for new players to understand
- Selling expandable wardrobe slots
- People will buy more of the Gem Store armorskins, because one can still keep the old armorskin and it will no fill up the bank.
Why not to implement this system:
- Transmutation stones is an income for GW2, i guess, im not sure how many buys them though
Tell me what you think guys, tell me what could be improved
8/10, he reminds me of some fantasy character, cant place him though. He looks determined and i really like it Awesome armor too by the way
Here is my thief Nika Letalis Umbra humans just got the new hairstyles, and i gotta say that i really like them

10/10 for invoking great memories. Talon Silverwing would be proud.
I have three humans:
Mesmer – Mind Of Cew (cue) Designed after GW1 character of same prof/name. Mesmers play mind games and Cew is my initials.
Guardian – Heart Of Cew Fits guardian better than the original dervish character.
Thief – Eva Nesco Eva means “life” and Nesco would just be a random surname, but the name actually comes from “evanesco” (e-van-es-co long vowels). Latin meaning to i.) vanish/disappear ii.) fade away/die out iii.) lapse.
Nice names 6/10 for your mesmer and guardian, but 9/10 for your thief, Eva Nesco. I like how you put the name together, and that it has a purpose. The roots of Nesco was quite interesting and fitting for a thief
My human female thief: Nika Letalis Umbra
Its pretty much because im a fan of Nika from guild wars 1, and letalis umbra comes from latin, meaning: lethal shadow
