OK so i just unboxed my alienware X51 this afternoon after running GW2 with a dated but capable system (which ran the game on med-high with a steady mid20-mid 30 FPS) and btw the alienware X51 is the high end £1000 model with the i7 core and gtx660 graphics card. Only to my extreme frustration be smacked in the face with an extremely low 1FPS and major freezing issues to the point where i couldn’t even exit the game and have had to hit the power button a few times.
Now is it just me doing something not right or is there something bad afoot because im hearing the low FPS and freezing issues everywhere over these forums.
since you just unpacked it, did you run windows update to make sure its up to date? and do you have a latest drivers for your card? (i think they’re on 306.23)

you video card is on the low end. check out here:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-310M.22439.0.html
and here:
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+310M
and you can see that video card is not a card made for gaming. it doesnt even match up to an HD 3000 which is integrated graphics.
your processor is ok. it should be able to do decent frame rates if it was paired with a more powerful video card.
can you post your dxdiag?

i tried this out last night and it actually seemed to have worsened my fps. before the change, i sat my char on a cliff overlooking a heart zone in Caledon Forest. I was getting 90+ fps with 0 screen stuttering when i panned my camera around. when i followed the OP’s steps and got back into the game at the same location in Caledon Forest, i was greeted with about 10-15 lower fps and screen stuttering when panning the camera.
i didnt do any extensive testing, but i can say that parking actually introduced more screen stuttering when disabled on my system. when i turned parking back on, my screen stuttering went back to normal (read: none).
i dont know if that make sense technically, but that is what happened on my system.
can you port to the nearest waypoint?
possibly. in most cases, the PCIEX16_1 slot is going to be the slot closest to the processor. take a look at the picture below. i believe this is your mobo. what slot number is your vid card in?
take a loot at this note regarding your mobo:
(Note 1) For optimum performance, if only one PCI Express graphics card is to be installed, be sure to install it in the PCIEX16_1 slot; if you are installing two PCI Express graphics cards, it is recommended that you install them in the PCIEX16_1 and PCIEX16_2 slots.
the only other thing that you might want to look into is your ram configuration. it looks to be misconfigured or possibly underpowered. maybe your mobo throttles the hardware when not under load. im not sure. are these the ram that your ordered?

try reseating your carde in another pcie 2.0 slot if you’re having trouble with the pcie bus. if you dont have another then try reseating it in the same slot.
can you post a pic of your system summary using this program
can you post your dxdiag?
awesome glad it worked out
not sure if its related but i notice your PCIe bus is @x1 on your system summary
PCIe v3.0 x16 (8.0 Gb/s) @ x1 (5.0 Gb/s)
i have read posts where this causes significant performance hits. take a look here
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/55965-possible-fps-fix-for-ati-cards/
it may not fix your problem, but its curious enough to look into with your rig
for me the performance gained wasn’t so much FPS as it helped reduce my camera stuttering when moving the camera around. my camera movements seem much more fluid with the music disabled. disabling the sound, however, did not seem to have a noticeable impact.
those application profiles are normally for crossfire setups, but sometimes they do release profiles which enhance single gpu setups. CAPs 2 and 3 had enhancements for GW2. they can’t hurt anything so there is no risk installing them. you should give those a try.
my 7970 stays in the 85-100% range when playing also. cpu is at 50-60% for 3 cores and 70-80% for the 4th core. what kind of load do you see on your processor when you play another game or use a benchmark program like prime 95?
your processor is no doubt holding you back for some reason. have you played with any bios settings?
fyi you can attach files like txt and images to your replies
just hit the ‘More posting & formatting options…’ button below the reply box
i’ve never gotten a DOA before, but i wont be surprised when it does finally happen. i see posts about DOA’s frequently enough to know it’s just part of the game for those of us who pull the short straw.
was your old machine still available to try the 7870 on it?
some people (myself included) have noticed improvements by disabling sound/music in game. you can do this by adding using -nosound and -nomusic in the the shortcut target. having no music isnt so bad, but no sound at all might be different. anyways, you can try em and see what happens.
if you’re certain nothing has changed on your side, then you should probably submit a support ticket. maybe a recent patch had a negative impact on your hardware config

you probably will get better results if you submitted a support ticket instead of posting on the forums. follow the directions here to get help that way https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/How-to-Submit-a-Ticket-Account-Issues-2
