Really? No new Halloween content? Again?

I don’t mind that nothing is new, but did they really have to nerf the bosses in the Labyrinth? It was a great, easy-access place for newer players to mesh with veterans and learn to play the game. Now, instead of occasionally having to turn your brain on for boss spawns it is 100% mindless and borderline unbearable for it.

Looks like no one's happy re balance patch.

Eles are happy just to not be nerfed again. Nobody is going to post about that though because they don’t want to tempt fate. Plus we got some decent improvements for PvP, which were much needed. We still have some issues with survivability and inherent design flaws, so I guess that’s where the “meh” people are coming from.

But seriously, zero Ele nerfs. How long has it been since that happened?

Elementalist mandatory nerf incoming.

I am betting the Mender’s amulet gets nixed, based on what’s happening to Druid. But Scepter AA dmg will get a 3% increase so it’s fine.

You are talking about two different things, you are about PvP while the comment you quoted is about PvE…

What? The post I quoted says nothing one way or another. These changes overall impact both sides, and are part of an ongoing effort by ANet to prevent players who are healing from doing meaningful damage. It’s not specific to either game mode.

I do expect Ele will eat a PvE-targeted nerf as well to placate the people crying about no more perma-quickness, but that might at least be defensible. The snark of “mandatory nerf inc” suggests an unwarranted change, i.e., in PvP, where Ele is a dumpster fire.

How many are still playing full zerk in HOT?

I am too lazy to switch my build / skills / weapon (staff) around, easier to just change armour imo. My Zerker gear has Scholar runes on it anyway which is iffy in open world stuff, so I carry a set of Marauder gear with cheapo Wurm runes. Trade about 200 power for ~4.5k HP (crit and crit dmg are a wash), it’s a pretty good boost to survivability and gives you enough of a cushion to react to those “oh god what just hit me” scenarios rather than getting insta-downed.

I hate it. It’s boring. The mobs on the ground are non-threatening, and the mobs when you’re in the air are too threatening. Being turned into a Moa while gliding is just about the dumbest thing I’ve seen in a game. The hand-fired heat-seeking missiles are nearly as bad. There’s nothing fun about having your 12k HP pelted down in 5 seconds while you hang stupidly in the air. At least with Pocket Raptors you knew what you were walking into and could get around them. Now you just spam 4 and 5 and hope you hit it at the right moment to avoid one of the Death-Pebbles™.

There’s just nothing compelling about the new gliding skills. (Why are they designing skills for when you’re flying that only work in a single map instead of fixing or designing new skills for the professions we chose to play?) I land ASAP — except on Hablion, because the constant unavoidable Torment spam, while a nice simulation of what it’s like to PvP these days, is stupid.

The Jades event is just terrible. It’s the very definition of a mindless zerg: it’s certain to fail if you have too few people, it requires everybody to all rush to the same small area, and yet the only way to die is to get shot down by the trash mobs’ anti-aircraft missiles. The Jade Armor even helpfully tosses you out of the only small area where you can take serious damage if you’re bad enough to stand in it. The invisible boss (now you can be blinded by the spell effects hitting BOTH sides of the boss!) takes it to a new level of carebear because you can just ride the wind and pewpew without any danger whatsoever.

There’s a reason that the best open world content in this game is map events that force you to split into semi-organized groups. It heightens player involvement and individual responsibility for the event’s success and it lessens the eye-bleeding impact of 10,000,000 spell effects hitting a single mob.

Human male voice ruins immersion

It might just be that he’s a very good voice actor. The male human PC is voiced by Nolan North

WOW THAT’S IT! I knew I recognized his voice but I couldn’t place it! It’s Nolan bloody North, the guy who phoned it in so badly as the male Consular in SWTOR that I quit the game because he was just that excruciatingly awful.

Needless to say, I dislike the human male voice acting here as well. It’s not quite as bad as ()SWTOR (though GW2 has a lot less of the voice acting) and he does a much better job in HoT, there’s just something so stodgy about his voice that makes a lot of the dialogue sound extremely scripted and unbelievable.

Not everyone likes it; that’s the reason people are offering. If that’s not a ‘good reason,’ then what reason could possibly satisfy you?

It’s not a matter of satisfying him/her or me or anyone, it’s a matter of the remedy being commensurate with the grievance. I don’t like WvW but I do like Legendary Weapons. Your solution is “remove WvW from the game” because some people don’t like it. The sane solution was “let the WvW currency for Legendaries be sold”. That way, the people who enjoy WvW still get to play and my path to epic shinies is still open.

The remedy for your grievance has already been delivered: you got a nice, dumbed-down area called Bloodstone Fen to play in (and 20-something zones called Central Tyria, many of which I haven’t even completed because they are so very tedious — and that’s fine!!). Frankly, I’m bored of it already. So I maybe go there for the dailies or to spam auto-attack on Jades while I eat, and then go do the stuff I enjoy the rest of the time.

Personally, I still get satisfaction from slaughtering those stupid frogs in VB, simply because they are so very annoying. When I kill a bunch of them to get wherever I’m going, it’s great, because I hate them. But you want to remove that from the game for me and others like me because you can’t be bothered to find a way around them (which there almost always is) or spec’ing a cleanse so you don’t get Crippled or whatever.

(For some background: I didn’t start playing this game until a short while before HOT launched. I stopped playing back in February and just came back to the game a month or two ago.)

Frankly, I loved HOT. It’s really perplexing to see people calling things like the VB meta a “zerg” and then saying Jades are an improvement. I understand why, of course: you have to be an absolute muppet to die on Jades, where getting, say, T4 in VB actually requires you to rub two neurons together and take some modicum of responsibility for the map’s success. That’s the real point here: Jades are an “improvement” because they’re loot piñatas (it’s so ridiculous that people even complain when a Jade Armor spawns instead of a Jade Bow because it takes longer to get to the free shinies).

I’m not a “hardcore” player by any means. I’m not running around in full Ascended gear with a Metabattle build. But what I will do, which is what separates me from a lot of the people complaining here who say “nobody plays”, is press my enter key and say in /map: “I’m doing x events at y location”. That’s literally all it takes for the non-meta event chains. For metas you just open LFG. If there’s not a group, start one. Yes, it’s scary. Yes, you might have to interact with another player. But it’s not hard.

This is where all modern MMOs are going and it’s so frustrating. Not content with having the entire world of single-player games to themselves, people come to MMOs and demand that they be made into single-player games in multi-player worlds. I was just thinking to myself as I was doing the DS meta the other day, “This is why I skipped out on SWTOR and FFXIV and came back to GW2: they struck the right balance between encouraging grouping and permitting soloing”. Now I come to the forums (to find out what “AB Multi” meant, ha) and see that supposedly everyone hated this and ANet “learned their lesson”.

Sigh. :/

I quit for a while back in February (being Chilled 900% of the time is fun!) and this is what I come back to? I was wondering why I suddenly had a free level 80 boost. That should’ve been a hint.

Normally I don’t take the forum qq too seriously but … it’s pretty bad. Even in PvE, sure the class performs, but it feels so generic now. You have 4 attunements but rarely if ever use 3 of them for any given situation. Mostly you camp in one and spam your auto-attack.

It seems like their design goals just don’t match the current design of the profession. It’s hard to see how that’s fixed without a significant overhaul. Unfortunately this happens in most mature MMOs, and the developers almost never make the sweeping changes necessary to correct their own design flaws.

You guys never used that trait before hot and was doing fine vs condi people. I know because I played water/air or fire/arcane and that was enough. Was it only the reaper chill and rev viper? Some of us have very poor condi cleansers but we had to deal with them with out a ^90% passive trait that made you break most condi builds with out even trying.

I don’t think anyone reasonably disagrees that it needed to be nerfed; it’s what it got nerfed to that’s a problem. It’s not like the other Grandmaster traits in Earth are desirable alternatives. On top of that came the removal of the Celestial Amulet, a nerf to Auras, and a big shift in the meta towards condi-spam classes. Ele lost many of its best options and got comical buffs to Scepter in return.

As a rule I don’t like brainless, passive gameplay like DS was pre-patch, so I’m not sad to see it go. But it’s sort of like… “Okay, now what?”

I’m pretty new to PvP and have only done unranked as well.

Gear makes no difference. Go to the top of your screen in the Heart of the Mists and click the little helmet. It lets you choose an “amulet” which will determine your stats, a set of runes, and sigils for your weapons. That is the gearing system in structured PvP. You can also set your PvP-specific build there.

I haven’t had that experience with matchmaking, either. I barely know what I’m doing, but players I get matched with and against all seem to be potatoes. I actually had to Google to find out if this game put bots into matches when it can’t fill them (it doesn’t). I’m not really sure how matchmaking works but I’ve only been matched against an organized team once, and it was at like 4 am EST so…

That said, if you’re getting “3-shot” by Mesmers I think you have bigger problems.
