I wanted to say thank you for starting this thread. I run with a regular group on a weekly basis, and this really helps. We are all dungeon noobs, and finding relatively quick paths helps us build confidence.
I tried unsuccessfully to purchase gems this morning using a credit card. I have used this same card on at least two occasions with no problems.

Thank you for helping me with this issue. Worked great this afternoon.

I just reached level 3 and got a question…i don’t want to start a new thread just for that :P
Am i supposed to take a crafting or is that later? I have some crafting related items in my inventory but the game has not said anything about it yet.
Also, how do i find guild and chat channels?
EDIT: And what is the difference between confusion and daze?
1. Wait on crafting for now (imho). However, equip a basic sickle, axe and pick to gather as much as you can now. TIP: click the “gear” icon in the top right of your inventory and deposit collectibles (nice way to keep bag clean).
2. /g or /guild will put you into guild chat. /s for say – I use this if I die and someone is rezzing me… ( a quick /s ty) is nice when someone runs over to help out.
3. I think (could be wrong) that confusion is a damage-over-time (DoT) and daze in an interrupt.
Greetings and welcome to the game. This is only my 2nd mmo, and I am truly enjoying the experience.
The difficulty with giving advice on how to play this game is that it’s like giving advice on how to enjoy your vacation – we all have different tastes. So the following suggestions are based on how I play the game.
One of the first things I did was look for an older/mature kin. While I enjoy exploring etc. – I started an mmo for the social aspects. I was very fortunate to find an age 30+ kin, and I keep Ventrillo running in the background so I can chat with fellow guild members. In addition to random chit-chat, the guild gives me a chance to ask questions. If I know specifically what I am looking for, I can always use google or forum search. However, I frequently don’t know what I don’t know. So experienced guildies can walk me through certain things.
Once you pick a guild, they will tell you if they use Vent, mumble or something else. My headset of choice is a Logitech G35. I am a slow typer, so a headset was a necessity for me.
The forums are a great resource. I recommend reading them on a regular basis especially the “OMG – if you only knew this – tips for new players” that is at the top of this section.
I am a completionist by nature, so I like finishing up a section of the map before moving on to a new area (vistas, hearts, etc.). I found a website by reading the forums – GW2 Interactive Map – that helps me find missing items.
My warrior just hit lvl 80, and I love the profession. Try out all of the weapons to get a feel for what fits your particular playstyle. Then spend time on the Warrior forums to see what types of builds others use. Even though I have hit 80, I am a noob and am just starting to click with the skills.
Run dungeons when you can. Get a sickle/axe/pick and gather anything you can (will need to upgrade these tools as you go to higher levels). Find friends to teach you the dungeons (you can always give me a shout in-game).
Learn enemy and game mechanics. Watch for the bad guys to give you “tells” so you know when to dodge. Which reminds me – learn to consistently dodge.
Finally – have fun. If you’re not having fun then you’re doing it wrong. Sincere Regards.
Forest grubs…
Slow, low level mobs who raise up their “backs” with an effect surrounding them a few seconds before they spit their goo towards you. You can even wait to dodge until you see the spit.
Easy way to practice dodging.
I wholeheartedly agree. The grubs have been the best practice for me along with the ettens. I was directed to a cave in west Queensdale (Altar’s Windings) that is filled with forest grubs. After a few days of practice, I finally have the hang of it.
I’m getting a new mouse and will probably follow the suggestion to keybind dodge to one of the buttons.
I’m a new player as well – started two weeks ago.
I’m on Jade Quarry and the low level areas have a very good population. I play in the evenings (US Central time), and I see groups everywhere.
Neksis:
Sounds like you have a great kin, and I am very interested in joining. I will probably ‘guest’ soon on Jade Quarry so I can touch base with you.
Not trying to sound cheap – but I hate paying over $20 US dollars to transfer servers.
Greetings.
New player to game with 2+ years of experience on other mmo. I just started this last week, and I have a mid-20s Warrior. I am a bit of an altoholic (had 5 toons at level cap), so I will probably have several alts.
I’m well into middle-age and would prefer a mature guild. By that I mean friendly players that avoid profanity and political rants as much as possible.
I have a very flexible work schedule and am able to play 25+ hours per week. Located in central US timezone, so early evenings would be my group time. In my previous mmo experience I was a casual raider in that I try to learn game mechanics. Very interested in PvE and dungeons, but the WvW sounds intriguing as well. I really enjoy being part of a core team and am willing to help wherever needed.
While I prefer to remain on Borlis Pass, I am open to a transfer if I find a good fit.
