This guy wasn’t using clones.. Everytime he got aronud 25%-40% health he would disappear, then reappear nearly full health if not full health. It got to the point where Another ranger was with me, and we both couldn’t kill him.. He kept doing that disappearing act/full health, he ended up killing the other ranger, so I just ran away.. I ended up near a cliff side and the mesmer came out of no where and began his onslaught again.. Again I could not kill him so lured him to the cliff edge and point blank shot him off the edge..
I have no clue what weapon he was using.. my graphics are turned down so much all I see is red blobs.. or green for my own teammates..
I was using LB and Axe main hand/horn off hand..
I admit I suck at my ranger only because I haven’t played him very much.
I am wearing full exotics, vit, tough, power gear. 2 ascended trinkets rest exotics tough/vit/power.
I have been playing with great sword once and while but I just don’t care for it that much.. My main weapon was always LB — Axe/horn

Any tips on how to kill them as a ranger? I just had a 10 min fight with one and he kept going stealth and coming out with full health like every 10 seconds?? I ended up having to point blank shot him off a cliff edge to kill him..
Is he using zerler gear? His damage is way higher than mine..
It is pretty badly done.. Was this done to accomadate the China release of the game? Why should we have to suffer because they like grindy, gated games?
The whole leveling experience is boring as hell now. Not only did you wreck the trait system, because the old system was way better and at least gave you something to do while leveling by allowing to pick and choose different traits, but now even the skill points are locked till level 13? Wth..
The patch notes also said the leveling from 1-20 was quicker… BS it is.. It is vaslty slower because you have less tools to kill at your disposal for the first 10 levels…
What a complete piece of crap this new game experience is..
I do like the class balance changes though, my ranger in wvw seems quite a bit more viable.. But honestly, making changes to accomadate chinese players? Is that what happen here?
.
Thanks for that write up.. Wish I had seen it a few weeks ago..
Thank you everyone for taking the time to help me out here.
At the time I posted this I had 2 pieces of zerker draconic of the flame gear and 2 pieces of knights draconic of the flame gear with a magi armageddon and solidier armageddon piece. single runes that added +25 to vitality. using an exotic 2 hand sword.
I was 6/61/0/0
I’ve since changed over to
0/1/6/6/1 using a sceptre/torch and stuff that adds burning duration or dmg.
I sometimes put a sceptre/shield on just to experiment..
Even before I switched stuff around, with the same build and gear I went into eotm, and noticed I wasn’t taking near as much damage from pvp. Maybe cause most people were leveling and not really 80 yet idk?
I’m now running a mix of soldier armageddon and magi armageddon gear with the same sceptre/torch /shield weapons..
also 2 fangs of tequatl.
also druids circle and lunarias circle ascended rings.
settlers amulet.
and a charred back warmer.. not sure where to get a better cloak..
4/6 superior rune of dwanya
2/6 superior rune of flame legion. << helps the burn dps..

I know the gear is a mixed bag but I was severely broke in game with like 20 silver to my name.. Which I why I wanted to pvp a bit to get some gear.. But that hasn’t really happened .. I’ve not had much luck getting anything useable..

What is more sad to me is that this is probably not even the developers fault. Based on what I have read over the years, the devs are just so limited by the management that they cannot develop anything real. Such as their inability to know the basics of good business.
Broken record moment. Nearly every successful business has always thought in the long run. Key word, nearly. Not saying all but you get it. When you build a computer do you build for now? No, you build for the future, when you fix up a car, do you buy parts for tomorrow? No, you buy for years down the road so it is as easy to maintain as possible. Why should this game be any different?
It has been proven time and time again that if you just wait and take your time with development and release a solid quality product/content whatever you want to call it, the community will be more pleased then releasing half baked products/content like a machine gun. This Living Story thing is a joke and it always will be. It has a story yes, but the execution is the worst I have ever seen. Giving no time to any of the writers to make a good solid story, they are forced to just put it out asap. And this pans out to every aspect of this game and it is heart breaking, truly heart breaking.
As I said before, Guild Wars 2 is not long for this world with this sort of business model/thinking. No business has ever thrived and is excepted by the sane public by doing this. Your reputation is your biggest product, if you lose your reputation then you lose your product, it is as simple as that.
I felt I needed to clarify what I meant when I said “Anet”. I am not saying the dev’s arent a part of this but from what I see this is a management screw up. In my business I will never ever ever let a suit manage a game. They have no interest in it. You must have a love for your product or you mine as well toss it out.
TL/DR When you let someone who doesn’t have a love for the product take over, the product is doomed to fail eventually. You can try and try and try to hype it all into the sky but in the long run, you will fail I can promise you that. Guild Wars 1 was a masterpiece. Some of the best PvP/PvE I have ever seen in an MMO. Guild Wars 2 is the worst PvP/PvE I have ever seen in an MMO (That is functioning).
gw1 wasn’t the best pve experience.. Everything was instanced and it kill the immersion of what an mmo is.. It felt more like a glorified version of diablo 2 with 3d graphics. I can’t speak to the gw1 pvp.. But there were way better pve mmo’s out there than gw1.
And how would you suggest they fix it?
If it is so easy you would have a couple of examples on how to fix it, right? They actually DID change the match-up at least once after release, and yet the issue still seems to exist, so I would love to hear your solution for it.
As long as people are not forced to join certain servers or forced to WvW, there can never really be complete balance. You also seem to have rather little knowledge of WvW when you claim that 3 colors (I am assuming you are talking about Commander Tags) is not useful.
It is actually very useful for organized WvW-play.
Of course there can be balance. The fix would be to take 2 low pop servers and stick them in the same wvw instance on the same faction.. I don’t know all the servers off hand.. but for example:
Server A has 100 people in wvw on average.
Server B has 100 people
Server C has 100 people
Server D has 300 people
You merge server a b and c into an instance on one faction to fight server D
Rift did a similar thing where they would take instance the pvp match compromised of players across 3 or 4 servers on one team. It was faction vs faction in that game and this game is void of factions so it resorts to server vs server which is a bad move right from the word go because you always have some dead servers and some over populated servers.
The fix is to incorporate 3 factions into the game and let players decide which one to fight for.
So it becomes less of a high pop server vs a low pop server issue, then it would still become a high pop faction vs a low pop faction, at which point you add incentive to play on the low pop side with maybe increased loot chance and by buffing the low faction side with more dmg and hitpoints to counteract the population imbalance.
Or, scrapping all that and just simply giving the low pop faction a better buff to compete… It the servers calculates a 100 vs 25… Buff the 25 players with an appropriate amount of hitpoints and dmg modifiers.. And give them better rewards so people may transfer over to help even things out? I don’t know, its not bloody rocket science..
Maybe I am missing something since I have not played a lot in the last year or so, but the last week or 2 I have been wvw a lot.. I have accumulated a ton of badges and a few laurels among other things. I honestly have been playing about 10 hrs a day.. sometimes 4 or 5.. I got 1 exotic gear from a bag.. I got 1 ascended ring from a treasure chest which I think was from ranking up in wvw.. I got 3 or 4 yellows, and a ton of green/blue trash items..
So the npcs in the wvw zone that have those ascended items are what we spend our badges and laurels on? Is that all? To me, games like this are all about the loot.. If I am not looting rare and interesting things, I am not really getting any sense of achievement.. Maybe that is shallow to think, but I don’t actually think the pvp/wvw in this game is all that exciting.. It seems like a massive zerg fest non stop in eotm.. that seems to be the place everyone goes.. You zerg around killing npcs and capping flag points with the odd massive faction battle that you end up dead in 5 seconds anyways..
Or one could do some roaming.. But that usually ends up in 5 on1 fights or maybe the odd 5 on 2 fight..
Not only am I not getting the actual point to wvw as the rewards seem so trivial from the bag loot, but the npc gear you buy seems a bit pointless as well..
My magicfind is at 63% with no food.. So maybe that is the looting problem? Or perhaps its just low drop rates overall? And with all the siege stuff in this game, I don’t think I’ve actually ever gotten to use any of it.. People seem to want you to build it for them but not let you use it? And the siege stuff not being moveable? I think mobile cats and arrow carts would be cool.. I don’t know how they could do it but I think it would be interesting to see if your blueprint and supply would build your own siege stuff that was atleast mobile.. Maybe it should only take 2 or 3 hits to disable so its not over powered.. Maybe a ruleset could be only so many siege weapons are allowed on the map at one time per faction so it becomes more tactical with where they are built and dropped down?
Out of all this post, I would really like to know if there are any hidden npcs with loot I can spend the badges on somewhere maybe I am missing? Is there perhaps also a karma merchant somewhere that has high end weapons or something?

But like I said, i would never ask them to change this game because I know people like it just as it is.. And you would have to"baby step" some of the players into using one character name/toon per server.. You know what that meant though? Your reputation was everything.. You act like a kitten in game, then people knew you as a kitten in game.. You want the feeling of being an epic pvper, standing in town with the best of the best gear, you will never get that in an mmo that caters to 6 alts.. never..
There was no paying to change your name.. There was no hiding behind an alt character.. That game was endless content for people because you had to drop class skills to pick up other ones by re-grinding out xp for said skill box. I am not saying it was a perfect design, but it was fun to me and a lot of people because it was endless.. I subbed to swg for 2 years straight never losing interest till they wrecked it with the new game experience.. Even the CU was tolerable..
I made so many friends in that game that I knew by name because of the one character system.. Truly epic in design… And I think if you haven’t experienced it first hand you can’t really compare what the community was like with a system like that. But take a game like this for example.. Guilds mean nothing, the people I meet in game mean nothing because I don’t really know who they are.. I don’t really look up to anyone like the best of the best pvpers I saw in swg.. That feeling is just not present in any mmo in 2014..
I would love to see them use this game engine and make a truly amazing game that really emphasized social, player-driven communities. Many of you only know what wow designed and made popular for the instant gratification crowd that it breed over the last 10 years or so.. Most of you truly missed out on the golden era of mmo’s. Once you got a taste of it, nothing else came close to the true mmo feeling of playing and experiencing what those mmo’s offered players.. It would be like fillet mignon to hotdogs.. That is how I would compare it. They were truly addicting and worth every single penny-15/month sub..

Take for example the old buffing system in SWG.. I know it was a bit time consuming.. Well 10 minutes at most for a dancer buff.. But just standing their in the cantina with 10 or 20 other people buffing all socializing having fun chatting up the dancer etc.. Then boom, a jedi comes force running by with 2 bounty hunters hot on his tail… How freaking epic was that.. Everyone would rush out side to see the fight ensue.. Man the good ole days..
I swear for the first 3 months of that game, I never left tatoine.. Me and my brother were out in the desert using hand held survey tools, harvesting water/ore/minerals etc.. And each resource that came up had varying degrees of stats on them There was no tier 1 nodes or tier 5 nodes.. It if required ore, that is what was used.. So the end result when you used it in crafting, always produced something either really good, or something kind of average.. It was a mini game in it self hunting for the best resources to craft that perfect high damage laser blaster.. Then you could also hunt for rare motors and tissues that would enhance them as well.. It was one amazing system. Not like the cookie cutter system we see today..
But what made a game like that really work, and I know some people didn’t like this aspect nor do I expect many who began with wow or the subsequent wow clones to understand what 1 character per server meant…
Yes, you had one character, a set amount of skill points to allot into skill boxes and not everyone could craft because they wanted to pvp or pve.. That meant crafters were crafters and the community relied on them to drive the economy.. It was genius in design and way ahead of its time (thanks Raph).. He was brilliant in some of his designs aspects and I am shocked he isn’t working with a big triple A company right now on the upcoming hybrid sandbox/theme parks I mentioned are coming.. There is probably a group of men sitting around a conference room table right now trying to think how they can make their mmo popular, like wow.. we want the 10 million subs.. Well forget it.. It is not happening and never will because the market is so saturated with mmo’s that people are spread out over 20 mmo’s games, not the 3 or 4 that were around when wow launched.
..tbc
Gw2 is different enough and the btp really helps.. I wish more companies would follow that model, it is the best I’ve seen as far as not “paying to win” goes.
What I would love to see, is a game made with this games engine that offers things like farming, housing, mining, open world pvp flag systems/factions and complex crafting that focuses on player driven economies.. The game should emphasize the same questing theme park ride to max level with dungeons and end game raiding.. But also incorporate a similar pvp wvw system we see here for those who like instanced pvp.. But open world pvp can be really fun as well as long as its not forced on anyone. At which point you could have a mercenary class/bounty hunter class system where people could place a bounty on other open world pvpers heads.. Basically if you open world pvp you open yourself up to the bounty system…
Mmo’s today lack mini games.. That is what we need.. games within games that allow players to progress their character toons through an endless sea of player driven content. I would go as far as having certain npc’s in game or wanted billboard that these mercs or bounty hunters could use to sift through a list of bounties.. The players creating the bounty could offer gold and items.. Maybe rare items and such to make it more appealing to the hunters.. i know wow had some kind of weak bounty system but it never really came close to the star wars galaxies system.. Nothing has came close to that.. the feeling of tracking and hunting was amazing and if you haven’t experienced that, you missed out on some of the most fun times I ever had in any game to date…
The class system needs to break the traditional mold wow started of warrior/rogue/healer/caster.. I mean what did that game have like 6 classes? Boring.. This game doesn’t do much better either by the way.. Super weak class system here… Really one of the biggest downfalls to this game and the balance people are slow at fixing issues… How can the ranger still be so kitten so many months later? baffling….

Right here.. The gw2 engine is a pretty amazing piece of software. After dabbling in a ton of other mmo’s and most recently ArcheAge.. I still can’t get over how this game not only looks the best, but runs the best out of all of them.. Even on dated hardware..
I am not here to change gw2 in anyway..
But I want to get a message to the developers..
Take this game engine and make a hybrid sandbox/themepark game…
Out of all the mmo’s I have played, I have found I enjoy leveling in this game the most. The quest progression from area to area is seamless and easy to solo.. Even more fun in a duo with someone but totally casual and easy enough for everyone to enjoy themselves.
But this game really lacks in other aspects.. The sandbox element is non existent in this game and I think it is doing a great dis-service to the beautifully coded engine that this game has.. Even Gw1 was amazing for its time.. They really had/have? one of the best coders out of the diablo 1 trio that splintered off..
I’ve experienced star wars galaxies and ArcheAge as my only two sandbox type games and I have to wonder to myself why more companies don’t use some of those game designs/elements? I realize everyone was chasing the mythical 10 million wow subs, and don’t get me started on that because those numbers were so artificial its a joke..
So as everyone tried to copy wow and failed for the last 10 years, we are drowning in a sea of boring theme park mmo’s that all have that same “been there, done that” feeling.. it makes me wonder when more companies are going to get back to that epicness of the original idea behind mmo’s. It was about being able to do everything from fishing, to farming, to mining, to crafting using complex systems that required rare resource spawns etc.. Where are these games? We don’t need anymore clones to be honest.. You could make the best of the best theme park wow clone and it will still fail because the direction and strictures typically associated with theme park games.. They are designed on rails and more like riding a train across country.. It will get boring and fast no matter how pretty the scenery or how luxurious the cab-cars are.. Mmo players have what I like to call theme park burnout.. Caused by years of playing wow and the subsequent clones.

wth is ktraining eotm?
Basically you run around EOTM in a giant group killing NPCs. If all goes well the other team does the same. It nets a lot of karma which will get you geared quickly. Just follow the blue commander tag and you are good.
It can be disrupted if one team decides they want to fight, but that rarely happens.
Thanks. Going there made all the difference in the world as far as attaining badges went. My damage seemed a lot better too but we were only fighting npcs about 90% of the time.
My guard had 2 sets of armor about a year ago I think one was the draconic zerker gear and the other gear I can’t recall off hand but It was from melandru event karma npc? Full set.. Looked awesome don’t really recall the stats on it.
I got my first ascended ring last night, the rest of the gear was cheap exotics from the broker.. Ill have a better look around the guard forum as I think the ranger might be a bit too weak no matter I do.. So Ill concentrate on him for now.. Thanks for letting me know about that zone I had no idea because way back when, everyone just ran eternal battlegrounds so that is what I was doing lol…
wth is ktraining eotm?
I set the traits up.. I should mention, Every single one on one, I died in about 3 seconds to these massive damage spikes.. It didn’t matter which class I was using.. The guard did last a bit longer, I just don’t understand how they are putting out so much dmg compared to me.. I understand I am probably dieing to people with 1k + ranks and stuff and most likely fully decked out in the best of the best gear.. But tbh, at this point it is not even enjoyable.. I was zerging for hours the other night.. I got like 6 badges.. How am I supposed to afford any kind of new gear ( if that is the issue) at that rate? Someone tells me to just zerg and tag people.. So I do and don’t seem to be making any head way. I must be missing something..
And the odd time I am in a 1vs1.. It is just a joke.. I can hear the guy lol on the other end of the screen I litterally drop faster than a level 1 npc in a quest area lol..
I have 2 levels 80s.. one is a guard, the other a ranger.. Both seem to get hit like little girls in WvW.. Their gear isn’t horrible per say.. The 80’s have older ear from like a year ago I guess is the last time I played.. Still, I can’t really compete at all in wvw.. I might as well be running around dressed up in papermache. The combat log shows me taking 2k 3k 5k 9k hits..? Im dishing out a measly 800dmg on my 80s, ranger with the odd 1200 dmg spike…. So I thought my classes were perhaps kitten and just tried a low level thief… Wow kitten d.. I think my highest hit was around 180dmg lol…
I thought this game wasn’t all about gear? Now its all about gear? Whats the deal?
If you guys aren’t using valor you need to learn to play.
Dps builds are fine but what good is dps if you and your whole group are dead.
This build is an all around great build for everything and it uses 30 in valor. Now mind you the guys gear makes it a powerhouse but for new guards with garbage gear, this build is a must for pve and wvw.
As you progress and get better gear you can switch to more dps builds and rely on gear but this build is amazing if played right and being a new guardian with crap gear, I was going toe to toe with top geared players in wvw and forcing them to flee my presence with such fear they only stood against in 4v1 or 5v1 situations and it took them 3 or 4 minutes to kill me…
People who say valor is useless in pve are tools.. They only care about dps numbers and don’t care if they die 50 times in a dungeon because they will just nerd rage quit and blame the group for sucking.. Dps is over rated and there is no enrage timers so wtf is the point… L2P
