I have encountered this bug several times now and am reporting it here. It is only on that map that I need to constantly relaunch and login after a crash to desktop when loading this map.
Greetings. I am coming back to this game from a couple of years ago. It seems the problem that was then is still there now. That being that no matter what class or skills or weapons I use I constantly keep dying to normal mobs in maguuma or trash mobs in dungeons.
I am not complaining I just wish to know if there is something I am missing. I am playing revenant. Trying both S/A or Hammer but seem to constantly die all the time. It is rather frustrating cine I cannot pin point the cause at all. I am not standing in the red circles or any traps.
Any and all help would be most appreciated.
Post your charr armor pics! I need help cause I can’t find anything good!
+1 to more armor skins. But please actually make different models for each race instead of one and then stretching and ripping it onto other races.
“Do not engage in staff call-outs. Using the words “ArenaNet” or any staff member’s name will not expedite the answer to your query.”
Form the forum rules.
This is a public forum. although you may get a reaction from a dev, it is not the purpose of this forum. If you post here, you give other the right to react to it.And yes I do feel the need to comment.
One of the most hated things (reading through this forum) is the decission of Arenanet to concentrate on outfits instead of armorsets. The reason for this decission is likely that armorsets have clipping issues and people keep on nagging bout them (how they pay a good amount of gems only to see it clip with their hair).
So your request is actually contributing to that situation. Your request is not realistic at all cause there are thousands of combinations they have to check and repair.
It only results in even less armor skins and more boring outfits.
So to counter your request with one of my own:Devs, please do not listen to the OP. I don’t want more outfits, but I want more armor skins, that there are some clipping issues with armorskins, doesnt bother me at all, any armorskin is 100 times better then more boring outfits!
I didn’t say more outfits. I just want them to fix the armor skins that already exist. Also I am not calling out any one particular staff. I just want to be part of the thousands by now who have said something about the bad bugs and glitches. Two years is a long time for this not to be fixed or spoken of. Yes I want more armor skins, but I want the new skins to actually fit instead of being ripped to get them to fit on other races.
This has probably been mentions hundreds or thousands of times so just bear with me. Why haven’t all the armo issues ever been addressed? Clipping, stretching, shields floating off your characters. Just to name a few. I have seen posts about this all the way since the game came out so why haven’t the devs spent the time to make custom armor models for each race and readjusted the shields? With a new expansion coming will the old policy of build it for humans then cannibalize for the other races still be implemented?
Just my two cents trying to reach the devs ears.
No need to comment or post hate. Have a nice day!
I just beat the personal storyline but engi might just not be the class for me. I really hope the Hammer spec makes it fun, otherwise its time to search for a new class. I really hate arguing over meta and just want to have fun.
Voxrar,
I will start with the character situation. As you have suggested, this is something only you can decide upon and must feel comfortable playing as since you will likely spend A LOT of time on your avatar. At the end of the day races have almost no impact in PvE, but the smaller Asuran models do help to hide your presence in PvP. When it comes to armor skins you will find Human/Norn to provide the most original detail, while the other races have generally the same look given the same armor skin; certain proportions arranged to accommodate the model. As for your HoT hammer project, that can only be observed by trying each race as either War or Guardian and even then the animations might be different upon reveal.
As for your build:
Before anyone can help at this point we have to know exactly (as descriptive as possible) what it is you want to achieve with your build and where it will be taken. Every mode has different requirements and we need to know where you stand at this point.
Hmm. Well, its hard to make a choice on my own with anxiety issues. Thats why I frantically claw for others opinions even if they are other random strangers who I don’t know. Level and general PvE was hard enough on one character. I guess I will stick with the Charr and hope HoT provides so better looking armor. (Less trenchcoats, more layered leather plz ANet!)
Ok for the build. I only PvE, I am not competitive so WvW and PvP are out. I want a primary damage build with some side support or utility. The mortar just seemed like a great fit cause of the its fields over Grenade kit. Elixir U for quickness to speed up the shell fire or toss a %50 chance for reflect wall.
Also elixir C for B. More might stacking for you and allies and mass stability. You have tons of condi removing with Elixirs spec AND mortar kit – with Flash Shell you have 4 sec light field and default mortar attack is guaranteed projectile finisher.
I will do this as it was just something left over from my original build months ago before the trait update. I’d really like a 1 kit build so as not to do too much switching or memorizing complex rotations.
Bump.
I can’t decide. I have been with my Charr engi since I started. Engi being my favorite hybrid class but I tire of their horrible armor and stale animations. Asura seem bright and bouncy but incredibly tiny artillery and armor.
Anyone help me decide? I am aiming to project for HoT and go hammer spec so keep in mind which race looks better swinging a hammer.
Lets start with the build tips cause that’s interesting.
Mortar Support build
I tired this set out in CoF story and it went pretty well, but isn’t great in open world PvE. Is this normal? Or can you provide some tips to maximise what I am calling mortar support build.
The other random bit is, is Charr really worth it in terms of looks? I am not used to being the big beastly race in MMOs. I am normally the medium alien-esk race. But I know that all armor is designed on Humans then stretched for Charr and Norn, then shrunk for Asura. I just feel that sometimes its not that I need to change the build but change the race. I keep making alts and trying them in the mists to test animations/voice/ and outfits. But I just want some community opinions.
Any comments or suggestions would be most helpful!
Could be a quirk of the calc, but the toolbelt Hidden Pistols doesn’t seem to be affected by toolbelt recharge reduction baking it a poor choice for Static Discharge if this is the case in game.
I’m also going to assume slotting Blood Injection was an error?
And is this going to be for open world PvE or dungeons?
Ah well I thought blood injection would help abit but I will change that. I can change the static to something else then.
A bit of both open world and dungeons.

I was working on this kinda build for me PvE Engi. I like it cause the power build really feels better than the bomb kit support setup I had. But I am having trouble figuring out what to slot into 8th or if I have the right traits for this kinda setup.
Any advice, comments, questions or other are much appreciated!
Dear ArenaNet, please give us an option to choose or make them all shoulder. kthxbai
Just a preference I guess then. Wish it was just shouldered instead.
So I was doing some hearts and got the elixir gun model for painting red Hyleks blue. But all of a sudden I noticed this(pic attached)
She is shouldering the rifle instead of hip firing. WHAT?! Why can’t we get this normally?
Ok OK OK. I tested just to make sure and either Heart of the Mist increases dps or traits make all the difference. I am not giving up but I will hang back from exploration mode for awhile.
So I made my Guardian a while back. Went all the way to 68 and after choosing Priory and Ogres. I got bored and changed to Engineer. However I found that the Vigil armor and Skritt storyline are what I want on the Guardian. Is there anyway to change the choice?
you can do dungeons, but you need to realize your limitations. you will be getting carried through them until you hit 80 and gear up. dont let that break you.
Whats breaking me is that it wasn’t this tough on another class. Versatility is nice but the downside of that is being only moderate at everything. Nothing to be excellent at, this dungeon death roll just made me think. I am not really having fun anymore with the class, leather armor is not that great looking and its complex to do what they do.
Ha that’s what I thought at first " this class is way too hard for me, I think imma just switch" till I reach level 80 and actualy run dungeons, sure I broke a few of my fingers due to kit swapping but engi such a fun class to play. Im no great engineer but I know the basics/builds. Keep leveling, try EOTM if you are sick and tired of hearts, your free pass to level 80.
Ok Ok. I will wait. I thought I could do dungeons but I guess I will just have to wait till 80 to do anything fun.
What gear are you running? Are you using combo fields to your advantage?
Engi is a BEAST in dungeons. As others have said though, traits are very important.
I take bomb, grenade and elixir kit. Gives me a TONNE of utility to bring to the group. Its about constantly switching kits, using all your skills, and dodging, using blinds etc. Keep at it, it gets better and there is IMMENSE satisfaction that (for me) playing a guardian simply doesn’t give.
As much power as I can get. Also abit of tough/vitality. Utility is nice but how does it stop me from being the first one down in every fight?
You are level 55 and you are new to the game. Of course you gonna get down on a regular basis.
Like shaogin said what is your build? Do you pick up your healing turret? Do your overcharge it? Do you blast hit when in emergency? Healing turret need some knowledge to use as it’s best. You are probably better with the elixir for know, its easier to use.
Dodge is still the main source of defence you have in this game. You need to learn encounter and know what animation to look for to time your dodge.
Rifle, Heal turret, bomb, elixir B, and hidden pistol were the most common ones but I tried Elixir gun, FT, and nades. I would normally pop the overcharge instantly and leave it, overcharging again as needed. Pick up unless destroyed by boss or enemies.
I really though the Engineer was the class for me after a huge debate between Guardian and it. But leveling has been a hard road. I am 55 now so I feel deep into it, but after so many dungeon runs with me constantly down and never feeling like I am doing anything for the team. This class is starting to make me hate giving up on Guardian.
I keep trying to switch kits to find something that works but the healing turret never keeps me up long enough.
Any thoughts, comments, or other will be much appreciated.
This isn’t the debate I thought it would be in here.
DECISION MADE!
After comparing and contrasting both this post and the one on Engineer. I have decided Engineer wins for a large diversity pool. The Guardian is mostly defensive boons, while Engineer is conditions. I prefer to boost allies with offensive boost but vulnerability stacking is close. Plus their range is a huge plus towards Engineers. I just like staying out of the way and dropping heals or debuffing enemies. I will keep my Guardian for a side alt, a first for me in any mmo ever.
I join the ranks of the gun wield, arc-welding Engineers!

Wow guys, show some support! Long post incoming.
Why should you definitely run an engineer?
1) Viability. Don’t worry, in pvp, in WvW and pve, you can do anything and people will always welcome you, except maybe in organized blobvblob in wvw.
2) Build diversity. Some core traits are important and you pretty much have to take them, and running at least one kit is preferable, but from there you’re free! Our three weapon sets are good and feel different! Don’t like nades? Go bombs! Or flamethrower even! Don’t like Elixir Gun? Slick Shoes, Rocket Boots, Elixir S are all great choices! There are many runes, many armor stats, many sigils that you can experience with to get the engineering experience YOU will like the most.
6) The small community. In pvp lately, you can see lots of engis, because of the current meta. But I can assure you that in pve and wvw, you won’t encounter many! Surprise your opponents, and impress your friends with your cool-looking engineer.
8) Rocket Boots
Just do it already, what are you waiting for!
These. I was afraid to be effective in PvE (preferred content) I would have to use a cookie cutter build of 6/6/0/0/2 with E-Gun, FT, and Nades. My current engineer is around 25 and I do enjoy finding things that aren’t the same as the usual meta builds.
“Convince me” Well hell no. If you actually show any form of interest or curiosity, you don’t need us to make you roll an Engi.
I do have interest but its gonna take a hell of alot to pull me from a lvl 62 Guardian. Plus leveling Engi at low levels sucks so hard. I ahve delete them 4 times, maybe more.
Leveling is so easy in GW2. Just do both.
Leveling is a pain in the kitten with Engineer. The ability seems so droll and boring, but apparently its better at 80.
Guardian is always a good pick. PvP/WvW/PvE… Your party members can be sure you give some support. A guardian is always built with support. F1-3 skills are always there even if you build for insane DPS. Your support improvements are coming from your traits and not from your weapon or gear (staff is an exception).
Nobody ever says: “No I don’t wan’t a gaur in my party…”
I think the guardian is a very good achetype of a Heavy armour fighter. Not flashy, not fast, no abrakadabra magic casted in quick series. Guardian skills and utilities mean something. If you press a button it changes something.
This is why I like Guardians. They are important, they are powerful and they have natural synergy with every other professions.
My two cents…
Happy Guardin’!
Ok you win this thread. And so far the Engi thread is “Take it or leave it.”
How about some meta facts?

Honestly imo, none of that sounds that appealing…
honestly elementalist is better as it stands
Over both Guardian and Engineer? Also how so?
For some crazy reason I am 61 guardian but want to leave and get on a different profession. I have had forum and reddit posts debating Engi or Guard or Elemental. Since this is the Engineer Forum. Tell why why I should change to your profession.

Ok so I am really ok with guardian. Try an convince me to get a Engi.
I would like you guys on this forum to sell me on the Elementalist. I have been debating with Guardian (lvl60) and Engineer(to 33, deleted) which one to settle on. But Elementalist seem to have just as much range of ability as Engineer, with offense support instead of defense like Guardian.
So my questions are, Do you have to hop around atunements to get the best results for supportive builds?
Also any other comments, suggestions and other are much appreciated.
Edit: Spelling
(edited by voxrar.2859)
Both are good and capable classes and as a dedicated Alt-aholic, I say play them both. If you really must choose, from the description of what you like, go with Engineer.
In what way?
This has helped abit but I am still not swayed one way or the other. Engineer is fun at 80 in my teasting but the play time says otherwise towards guardian. Anyone got any experience as a dungeon runner as engineer? I haven’t seen anything on that yet.
Removal and boons are like the less important things the guardian can bring as defensive support. I don’t say that they are not good, but Aegis, Blind and Reflect are far more important.
Aegis is a boon. I knew this. -_-
They kind of fall between two stools so they are not part of most records run. But the vast majority of group don’t do record run. They are still 3rd best dps in the game.
The ideal rotation can be hard to get. You gonna switch between your weapons and 2 or 3 kits and it can be difficult for some ppl to pull that off.
The second reason is the aesthetics of the profession. Not only engineer seem out of context in a fantasy game the kits and weapons settings of the profession limit the customization. Not because Engineer wasn’t good, but because I had more liberty in customizing my guardian over my engineer.
This helped actually. I was worried I would be missing out on something due to Engineer being able to to everything and the Guardian only being into removal and boons. Also I am totally a cosmetics person and the trench coat look isn’t very flattering on a Charr. XD
So for the time being I will stick to my guns or not per say and be the supportive Guardian.
I understand that Guardian is not a tanky but can do decent damage while providing removal and a few buffs. While Engineer seems to be debuffing and heals only.
Well not really.
The guardian have decent/ordinary damage. Whatever your adjective its in the lower tier. But it provide defensive support. Blind, Reflect, Aegis, Condi Removal, Protection, etc.
The Engineer is a Jack-of-all trade, master of none. It have a really good dps but not as good as Elementalist, it can provide stealth but not as good as the thief, it can provide might but not as good the Ele or Warrior, it can provide defensive support but as not good as the guardian. But he can provide all that by himself and he’s the best at Vulnerability.
Normally I would like a jack of all trades type class. But something about it that seems underpowered. On my original Engineer I tried grenade kit for solo pve and it was terrible. I understand that the Grandmaster trait ups that by %50 but it seems like a terrible huge wait for a pay off so small. I barely see Engis in dungeon runs. Are they rare? Are they needed by may in Fractal runs?
First of all, there is no ‘tank’ (or healer) here in GW2. You will be never standing in front of the boss and just facetank it->heal->facetank->heal.. It’s just not possible to do it. Also, healing is just an add, you will never build your class around ‘healing’.
Guardian has no range options (there is staff, but useless in pve and scepter, which is mostly used on large bosses; hope we get something like bow in hot). Engineer is medium range class with very high dmg (you will have to learn rotations of course). Engi is usefull everywhere, can stack vuln as you said, is mobile, very good all round class.
Guardian is my main, but not because it’s super op, but because it simply fits my playstyle. I leveled only one engineer to 80, played her for like a month or two and I have to tell you that it’s an amazing class. In my opinion it’s stronger than guardian.
Also, engi is about learning rotations/spamming keys (by saying ‘spamming’ I mean pressing many of them in a correct order). Guardian has little to no rotations (they’re easy to remember), but timing is a key here. You have to know when to put stability, aegis, you will learn how to keep your aegis as long as possible. You know, it’s not about learning certain rotations, but about adapting and learning bosses’ moves.
It’s hard to say what you will enjoy more, but I’d suggest you to pick engi, bacause of versitality it provides.
Sorry for my bad english.
Well so far, Guardian feels like each ability counts. They have a few moves ,but they are powerful when used. I have enjoyed Guardian enough to make it all the way to level 58 and still don’t hate the class, unlike Engineer where I feel the mechanical theme wore thin and the abilities only got better after level 80 traits in Heart of the mist training.
This decision has plagued me for some time now. I’ve been on both of the profession forum but obviously each sided with their respective classes.
I personally like to play as just one character and stick with it over all others. That being said I prefer offense with support utilities, range over melee, and PvE content only.
I understand that Guardian is not a tanky but can do decent damage while providing removal and a few buffs. While Engineer seems to be debuffing and heals only. I currently have a Guardian at level 58 and keep making and deleting any Engineers I make for some reason or another. The farthest I got was level 33 on Engi.
Is there any advice or comments from the community that could help me focus and choose one of these classes as my character? Any comments, suggestions, or other will be much appreciated.
You shouldn’t run Boon duration stats. That’s nice thing to have, but if you focus your build around that, you will hurt yourself. Of course you can do it, but it won’t be good.
One thing you can do is getting some food with boons duration. Chocolate Omnomberry Cream will give you 20% and if you are using the build 4/5/0/0/5 it will give you an additional 25% for a total of 45% boon duration. You shouldn’t try to get more or you will screw up your build.
Please explain, don’t just say “don’t do that, do this.” I am not a cookie cutter build user.
I have been deleting and resurrecting an engi on my account for quite some time now. I would like to know a few things to try and solidify this class before trying to compare it again to the Guardian.
1. How is it fun? So far I have only ever made it to 33 on engineer and it has been a mediocre experience.
2. What is an Engis main purpose in General PVE and Dungeons? This is the catagory I will be traversing at max level. Guardians is mostly spreading defensive boons, while dealing some nice damage.
Any thoughts, comments, and other will be gladly appreciated.
I get alot of exp from dungeons, also if you took up Chef or wanna buy some cheap food, for a item buff and nutrition buff you can add 20% xp as long as you keep them up.
Ok one last thing. Why zerker over other types of enchants like knight or celestial?
Because there three important thing to bring to a team. Damage, Support and CC. CC is often skipped by most pugs group, it will help but you often need coordination in the group of really take advantage of CC. But Damage and Support are really important. But the stats on your gear don’t improve support. The gear can give you 4 type of things.
1) Condition Damage : good in PvP, it’s broken in PvE right now so nobody should use that except if they play alone. (Hopefully, Anet will fix that eventually)
2) Personnal Survivability : Vitality and Toughness only improve your own survivability. Since active defense is so powerful, more and more ppl don’t need personal survivability to stay alive in PvE. It’s all about knowledge of the encounter and timing.
3) Support : I lie two stats improve you support. Healing Power scale terribly and is not worth taking except in niche situation, while boon duration on gear only give you ridiculous bonus, getting that from trait, runes and food is the best way to go.
4) Direct Damage : With the other three not that important for PvE, that let us with Direct Damage gear which is either Bezerker (Power, Precision, Ferocity) or Assassin (Precision, Power, Ferocity). The support will come from your trait, runes, weapons and skills.
Ok, I prefer to do some damage but also have nice buff times over healing. What stat do I roll for that? Damage and boon duration, I mean.
Ok one last thing. Why zerker over other types of enchants like knight or celestial?
Yes, but it’s very finger intensive.
Ok, so for in combat might stacking, you may or may not wnat to use healing turret in it but i’ll include the rotation.
Drop Healing Turret -> Swap Flame Thrower -> Lay down Napalm -> Detonate healing Turret -> Flame Blast/detonate -> Swap Elixir Gun -> Acid bomb/cancel -> Drop kit and Jump Shot -> Blunderbuss -> Swap Grenade Kit -> Freeze Grenade -> Shrapnel Grenade -> Swap Flame Thrower -> Flame Blast/detonate
This rotation will get you 4 blasts in your fire field for a total of 12 might, it’s not bad and it’s all doable while remaining in your highest DPS build and only a minor loss with some extra cast times compared to max dps rotation.
However, just so you know, Vulnerability IS an offensive buff, you buff your entire team by weakening the enemy. That’s what Engis are best for.
In general play on a boss (where vuln duration is halved) I’ll maintain ~10-15 stacks of vuln, and if I execute properly 6-9 stacks of might usually (I don’t always use the turret).
Again though, this is very intensive, and the way the cooldowns work the rotations aren’t very simple and they take adjustment to continue them for long periods. I play Engi a lot, and I’m still far from perfect on my damage maximization because I typically use a sub par rotation that’s a bit easier to handle than the fully optimized option.
Wow. Very complex just to blast out that much. However if Engi’s main team buff is vuni and might. I think from the durability and self sustain of Guardian I just prefer that. (This is also a HUGE load off my mind saying that last sentence.) Thanks for all the info Jerus. Sorry about being such a jerk before.
