This all has actually helped. I thank all of you very much. I know my type may have sounded like mad but your all great.

My current set up.
This isn’t wvw focused, was trying to give you a healing dungeon build with some damage still.
Ok ok, sorry miss understood. Saw the zerging term and applied that to WvW.
All classes are DPS classes. There isn’t a hard line drawn to distinguish dps/healing/tanking. All classes do everything. The main goal of the guardian is to do damage while defensively supporting your team. You can go full damage in your stats and still provide plenty of support for your team such as blinds/blocks/reflects/protection/stability/etc. The single most important thing about a guardian in dungeons is knowing the encounters so that you can use your defenses at the right time. There are many times where a guardian is crucial to the success of the fight because they can bring so much support/defense while performing good dps.
For instance in the normal dungeon builds these are what you will bring to the fight, in terms of defense (depending on which weapon/utility equipped):
4 blinds blinds (greatsword 3/focus 4, sword 2, traited f1 (spammable for trash))
2 party wide blocks (Plus you can get another if you use renewed focus to reset the CD on f3)
2 additional personal blocks (mace 3, focus 5) and 1 self invulnerability (elite utility)
2 reflects (Wall of reflection will be your best friend when you learn the encounters, its a party wide reflect, sword 2 is a personal reflect)
3 stability (2 utilites and a traited f3)
2 projectile absorbs (spirit shield and shield 5 (unfortunatly the shield weapon sucks))
3 condition removers (2 utilities and a traited f2)
And of course dodge!
Ok right right. I keep forgetting the whole no Trinity thing. So I could crack out more damage. For some reason it was in my head that stats like Power or Condition effected healing and durations on boons. But would Engineer have different one other that prot, aegis, etc.? I do like guardians supportive abilities but I prefer to buff damage instead of defenses.
yeah I have tried a few different combinations and my most successful one was a symbol heal based build while still building for damage.
Maybe you could try something close to this:
Self healing is around 500 heals per second with persistent symbols, and burst healing while double layering symbol of wrath with symbol of faith gets you about 700 self healing.
This will also heal allies in melee range with you for a lesser amount as they do not of virtue of resolve ticking on them as well, so they get about 400-600 on your symbol rotations.
You still maintain block/blind rotations with greatsword/retreat/protector’s strike/virtue of courage/shield of wrath.
You can also drop some points out of honor and put it into radiance to obtain blinds on virtue of justice and refresh on kills (less healing/damage with mace as well as less crit damage, but good utility).
This will put you at “decent” damage and “decent” healing. Still play like a zerker and dodge/block things…don’t try to face tank.
(I still advise to run meta or close to meta if you want to be optimal, but trying new things isn’t bad if you don’t want to)
Nice I guess, but I don’t count WvW in PvE catagory. World bosses maybe but open world and dungeons are what I am aiming for.
low damage, loss of dps while stacking might, wall is usless against champs and trash is unneeded.
So Guardian is just a DPS class? If so then I am in the wrong class at level 52 already….ugh.
(I did read all this here, just wanted to keep post short)
tldr: a whole lot of words to maybe let you make your own decisions (ie I said nothing)
Going one way or the other negates the opposite? I hate that. Even in games where it it better to take a negative penalty to maximize a stat I don’t do it. There has to be a way I can do a nice moderate about of damage and still provide good boons and heals.
Which is good, its a really good trait to have. FYI the GS also have a blind. So you could play Hammer + Sw/Focus, but Sw/Focus + Staff is not a great choice. It will work, but it’s not a great choice.
Why not? wide attack arc, spammable 2, 12 stack might and a wall.
Sorry to both of you so far but GS is not my favorite weapon. I prefer this set up cause I trait into blinds giving Vulnerability.
So I am not 80 but planning ahead. I plan on using Sword/Focus and Staff for general PvE and Dungeons. My question is which stats do I need to focus to to more damage but still maintain my healing and duration on boons?
Over all I deleted my Engineer and gave up on it due to the overly complex thinking and the lack luster results during gameplay. Also it doesn’t feel as ‘engineer’ as I thought.
Although I dislike the lack of range on guardian. Ultimately it isn’t a nightmare and the abilities are straight forward. Long cooldowns offset by powerful effects. No rotating to different hotbars to memorize 20 abilities.
Did he delete the OP… I hate when peopel do that
Sorry. I was getting frustrated and thought it would delete the post if I deleted the op.
That’s exactly what I felt after I made an Ele. The attunement and rotation spamming was a bit much for me. It does work when I took it into spvp ranked.. I had no idea what most of my skills did but just by following proper rotations I was already an average player :/
I made an Engi recently. Their rotation pace is quicker than a guardians, but slower than an Ele. I find engi’s a bit more fun than Eles but it all comes down to styles of play.
The Guardian is still my main class <3
Wish I felt that way about Engineer. I keep feeling the mechanical nature is bland and its not gonna get better. Though my engi is 26 and they say it gets more fun later.
I’d rather have Rifle than a bow. Only two classes can use it right now. Not really seen Warriors use it and Engineers are in kit weapons most of the time.
I recently had this little battle with myself over Guardian, Elementalist, and Engineer. I found that Guardian is very tanky and the dps isn’t that high. Leveling one is quite fast and easy due to this though.
Elementalist I didn’t get far into testing before I found the attunement mechanic to be quite chaotic and a hassle to juggle. Someone told me that it felt like you just spam everything, switch attonements, spam those abilities, rinse and repeat.
My say in this is for PvE cause I am not that competitive but if you want a tough offense and support character, Guardian is top notch.
My personal opinion:
- I understand your feeling about guardians to any extent, however there may be ways to change your feeling. Have a look at:
http://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki
There are some awesome builds here that are exciting to use (PvE, PvP, WvW).
- You used an ele in EotM are u planning to get into WvW more? Staff Ele’s can use water = heal, Fire = might, earth = protection. So many ways to support your team, but it requires coordination with ur team to use effectively.
- Cant offer you better advice on your engineer as i tend to feel the same way about them. Use the above website to research them more perhaps.
Hope some of this helps.
I thought of trying WvW but I am more into PvE.
So here I am again to ask your advice on picking a class. I have been at Guardian for 46 levels now and find it very sturdy but lackluster in combat. Very stand and fight with not much movement to it.
I tried out Elementalist in EotM and its quite a fast paced class, Is it also able to support group while having dps? Or is ele dps only.
Also I started on Engineer before Guardian and leveled until 33. The whole mechanical charm seemed to wear thin when all the kits just had to switching to the flamethrower all the time.
Any advice from all the info I have given would be most appreciated!
I have tried other weapons now. Still kinda meh to me. The sword/touch combo is what I like best about the class.
With the NPE, and how leveling and stuff is changed. I can see it getting stale around the mid 30s. You get trait points a lot slower, and they’re harder to unlock. What weapons/skills are you using? Those could effect, Engineer is pretty fun kit dancing with grenades/flamethrower/elixir gun. Guardian I don’t have much experience with.
Elementalist is a lot of fun, though if you run stuff it’s rotation isn’t the most exciting, but you can do sooooo much damage
I got rid of the Engineer. It wasn’t as flashy as I thought. As Guardian I am using Sword/Torch.
You can contact the CS Team and ask for assistance. Top of Page – Support – Submit a Request.
Good luck.
Thanks!
Any chance I can get back the choice of bonus armor I get from purchasing the Digital Deluxe Edition? I was under the impression that the wardrobe was not limited by light medium or heavy and got the one that looked the best. Now I am a fresh starting engineer with a bag full of nothing but light armor and light armor skins.
The armor sets didn’t describe that they were class limited at the time of choosing. So if it is possible for a support member to reset that one bonus item on my one character that would be most appreciated.
