I would be down to join, but I have a very limited play schedule.
I was actually already planning to start a “hardcore mode” character tonight.
I will not be crafting, using the TP, or bank.
If I die, I delete.
I think it’ll be a fun challenge.
This sounds about right.
-No Deaths (delete on death)
-No Bank
-No Trading Post
-No Crafting/Harvesting
The goal is obviously 100% map completion and level 80. I’ll send you a message to work details out.
No utilities, only weapon skills. Gear must be at least 10 levels lower.
I suppose I should clarify some of my thoughts about the challenge. I mostly want to eliminate the use of resources outside of what the group is accomplishing on this particular set of characters. I feel the trading post capitalizes a lot on what OTHER people have done and using the bank allows players to access accomplishments on OTHER characters they might have.
In that sense, I think crafting could be allowed since you can’t access a bank (and thus tap a store of resources). My main issue with crafting being allowed though is that people may resort to just harvesting and crafting in order to level up in safer circumstances.
Regarding your suggestions, if it is a skill a player can acquire through normal character progression, I don’t want to eliminate it. Also, if I find gear up to my level, I don’t see why I shouldn’t use it (as long as it was through work on THIS character…hence the elimination of trading post usage and bank access). I know I said “it’s all about the challenge”, but I don’t want to impose too many limitations within the scope of character achievement; I’m mostly interested in eliminating assistance from OUTSIDE the group.
Hope that made sense.
The goal is level 80 and 100% map completion with no deaths. No crafting allowed. No using banks or trading posts (use what you find…delete it if you don’t need it). Other rules to make it harder are welcome. It is really just about the challenge.
EDIT: To clarify, rules to eliminate any form of assistance from OUTSIDE the group are welcome. Limitations on the achievements from WITHIN the group…not so much.

Turns an item from “Soul Bound” to “Account Bound”.
It is still bound so can’t be sold in Trading Post.
It will becomes Soul Bound again upon next attach to a character.
Helps move items like back pieces or Chop-It-All Axes to a new main character.
Allows moving of masterwork or greater to another character (profession or race tastes change).
At the same price as a pack of dyes or some black lion keys, it should sell well.
EDIT: I know there is a roundabout way of moving masterwork or greater items to a new character via transmutation if you only care about this skin, but if someone just wants to keep everything intact and move the item over easy-peasy, this would be up their alley.
Ah, well. I wish I could’ve got a few more responses. Either way the stream will be starting soon and I hope to get a few faces browsing it.
I’ll be going with the only suggestion I received from CrossedHorse.
I’ve decided to start a PvE oriented stream around the goal of 100% map completion with zero deaths. I want a big part of the stream to be player interaction so to start, I was hoping to get a few interested parties to direct my choices. If you have a moment, please fill out:
Race:
Class: (which pet if Ranger)
Story Selections: (if you care)
Color Scheme: (if you care)
I’d also be interested in any restrictions you’d like to see such as no crafting or no buying/selling on TP.
My first suggestion by CrossedHorse was (Human, Thief, Streets, Sister’s Body, no crafting, and only buying on TP).
Thanks in advance for any responses.
My stream can be found at (http://www.twitch.tv/wickedrhythm).
Well Healix, I guess that will just have to be part of the challenge. If I get viewers on my stream just trying to kill me, I suppose that is more viewers for me and more entertainment for people watching. Also, I might also get some people to come help me out if there is a fight to be had. Who knows? I’m not complaining.
It sounds like there might be some support for this idea and I’ll likely be going through with it. As a bit of a starter, if you are reading this, fill this out:
Race:
Class:
Story: (if you care)
You can also add things like no crafting or no trading post, certain weapon sets you’d like to see, or anything you can think of! I’ll evaluate how ridiculous it is and incorporate what I can.
Peace and good morning!
That’s the point of the audience! As a human creature, we might outwardly wish the best for someone, but inside we really just want to watch that someone crash and burn! I want to be that someone!
I’m glad to hear some support for the idea. I really do want to give it a go even if I only get 10 – 20 people watching. I figure things like giveaways and fan interaction would be fun. It’s always been a thought of mine to give away a legendary someday…
Peace and good morning!
I haven’t created the stream quite yet. I wanted to gauge the interest of the community as much as possible before spending the money on it (I’d buy a new copy of GW2 to show a clean slate on everything and a Xsplit subscription to stream with a decent look.) If a few people seem interested, I’d move forward with the idea.
Peace and good morning!
I’m not sure of the best place for this post so I just decided on General Discussion.
I’m considering starting up a stream where the premise is surviving. This would be a PvE oriented stream where the goal of my adventure is to reach 100% map completion with zero deaths. I would try to be as interactive as possible by allowing (potential) viewers to choose things like my race, class, weapon setup, and even gear colors. I’d want (potential) viewers to say what is and isn’t allowed (example: crafting, using trading post, etc.) in order to make it interesting.
I’d top it off with the fact that if I die, I will give everything I’ve earned up to that point to a random viewer and delete the character for all to see (no matter how far I’ve come).
The point of this post is to gauge if people might be interested in watching a stream of this nature from time to time, cheering me on or even waiting to see me die.
Do you think this is something you would be interested in watching? If no, please tell me why. If yes, perhaps you can give me some suggestions of rules/class/race you would like to see in a stream like this.
Peace and good morning!
One thing I’m loving more and more about GW2 is those little things that make me laugh. I’m going to post two of those things and I’d love to hear what little things other people have discovered that enhances their game!
1. I walked into Divinity’s Reach on my new human character (I explore cities first for the experience!) and I hear “Saw an Asura the other day…she called me a bookah. I think she was hitting on me!”
2. I was finishing a heart smack in the middle of Caledon Forest (Ruins of the Unseen) and I watch a golem walk up to a Deer and ask it if its a skritt. Obviously it doesn’t respond at which point it is marked as a potential threat requiring further observation.
Any time Graphics User Switching is activated on the Mac, it’s going to get hot. GW2 is obviously and definitely going to activate it. I would make sure you don’t have many (or any) other applications running at the time to put a lighter load (relatively) on the GPU. A cooling fan is always a great idea as well. Definitely be sure the MacBook Pro is not on any type of blanket, pillow, couch, lap, etc. as all these things reduce the computer’s ability to dissipate heat effectively. The suggestion above of lowering the maximum frame rate (and effectively reducing GPU load) is also a great idea.
As far as I’ve seen, Warrior is going to fit the meta much cleaner then a Ranger for dungeons. I personally have only ever played a Ranger to 80 and I didn’t have any trouble at any point through 100% map completion. The little I have played a Warrior was mostly just a toughness and vitality warrior with all toughness gear and survivability signets. Granted I really didn’t go past 25, I certainly never had any close calls or setbacks. I used Mace/Shield (for all the defensive skills) and could tank champions for a quite a bit before having to back out and heal up. I really loved my pet as a Ranger though.
I am fully aware this isn’t GW1, no need to point that out. The context of the first paragraph was simply to illustrate I had done (what I considered) some pretty great things in GW1 but of it all, the survivor title was my favorite part. I didn’t AFK farm it and I agree that in GW1 there were some ways to get it that didn’t illustrate an actual accomplishment; I did not participate in them and as such was proud of myself when I did get it.
To be honest Mercury, you hardly address my concerns in the least. In fact, quite the opposite of what you say, people in groups tend to survive more then solo players. As such this title being something of an accomplishment could encourage people to run together simply for the fact they have a better chance of survival.
As you both point out, this achievement in its current state is a real joke. That doesn’t mean remove it, that means improve it. Perhaps hitting level 80, completing dungeons, getting player achievements, or map completion (or a combination of them) could make up the survivor tiers. Accomplishing feats without dying is the goal. Not everybody is going to care and that is fine. A lot of people don’t care about achievements in the first place and that is okay.
When it comes to a survivor achievement, I do care because I like the challenge of playing smarter and not semi-afk’ing through everything because death has a meaning. As it stands, my goal now is simply to get 80, map completion, dungeons, etc. on a character without dying as a personal goal. Maybe it will have to stay that way (personal) with no achievement bar keeping track with me. If so, so be it, but I owe to ArenaNet for all they’ve done for me to give them my opinion.
PS: I realize now this is completely in the wrong section. This should be in suggestions or just general discussion. Sorry about that! If this can be moved to an appropriate location, please do so!
I was a longtime GW1 player and my prized character was an Assassin (Aeterna Sicaria). To my knowledge, I was the first person to ever solo Darkrime Delves with my A/E and made millions of gold in a matter of days running 7 at a time with faster speeds (~20m) and superior prices (before others caught on and the price and customer pool diminished). It was the first character I got Obsidian Armor with (dyed all black of course…it was ugly but expensive and I just wanted expensive!) It was the only character I got a Voltaic Spear and Tormented Shield with. It was also the first character I got Legendary Survivor with. The point of all of this is that more than anything else I did, including many other titles, Legendary Survivor was my favorite accomplishment. I was ecstatic that this achievement was back in GW2. I am less ecstatic with how it is implemented.
I’ve read other topics about this and have questions/comments about it.
First, and most important, this is not a true survivor title if I have to stick in one zone and just follow event chains without dying. From what I read, you can follow an event chain in an 80 area to get the Tier 2. Or you can go on a crafting spree in one sitting. This feels wrong. I imagine a survivor title as me hitting level 80 without dying FOR TIER 1. I then imagine helping other people in event chains, chasing dragons around, working on other titles (not jumping puzzles!) to hit Tier 2 with a ton more experience involved. The only caveat is DON’T DIE. This whole “zoning resets it” thing is bogus.
I know in GW1, if you were in a sticky situation, you could quickly zone away. I’ve read that in GW2, they wanted to avoid zoning away to preserve survivor. This is strange since you can’t zone away while in combat. It is safe to assume that if you made it out of combat to zone, you were safe anyway. I also don’t see walking into another zone as an issue because if you are standing near a portal, you aren’t in a position to get much experience anyway. Logging out to save yourself? Don’t characters stand around for a bit before disappearing? (I could be wrong on that one!)
Perhaps others agree that this is wrong and should be changed. Perhaps there are great reasons why it is the way it is. I haven’t read a single PRO for this achievement and have many CONS bouncing around in my head. I was the type who would just DELETE a character when it died in GW1 (no questions asked; deleted within a minute of it dying) because I cared so much about that one little title. GW2 loses a lot of flare because of how this achievement works (of course, I still LOVE this game to pieces) and hope to see this achievement changed to truly reflect its namesake.
