Training Manuals--- What are they even for??

Don’t fret, soon there will be a LFG tool in game and hopefully you will be able to avoid the idiots who insist that everyone play the same way, spec the same things, have the same armor, etc. simply to minimize run times in dungeons.

There is little reason to grind a character to max level as quickly as possible in this game. You tend to miss out little nuances in the profession. Combinations of traits with weapon and slot skills that can add to a party rather than solo play.

Haters will hate. Nothing you can do about it.

That will be cool. I was actually taking my time leveling up though. This game just gives you a ridiculous amount of ways to generate xp. Honestly though, I’m pretty discouraged by the whole thing. I’ll probably be taking a good long break from this game before I decide if I want to keep playing.

Thanks for your help, and sorry I called you an elitist :P

well at this point I’ve figured it out myself. unfortunately i also figured out that the ranger class in itself is flawed and underpowered specifically in pve. I’m sorry i’m just a bit heated after being called a “huntard” in my latest dungeon. Wasted 60 hours of my life grinding a char that isn’t welcome in dungeons.

That’s a PUG for you, since you said that you came from WoW you must be fairly familiar with this.

Rangers might need more love, but they’re still pretty useful in dungeons (wonder how many times those ungrateful people have been saved by the pet revive) and their damage/support isn’t that bad.

If you are having that much trouble (or anger) getting a group that accepts rangers just get into a guild, groups in there are… “more forgiving”.

I’m VERY familiar with this. The only difference is that in wow I was able to make changes to my hunter and increase my dps. I would typically sit at the top of the dps meter. The thing is that I like hunter/ranged classes. I enjoy that style of combat. The problem is that there are actual flaws in the ranger class. For example: the entire time my pet is running between me and the enemy, i’m at 60% dps. Then when/if the pet dies it runs back to me and I’m back at 60% dps… Its a design flaw.

Actually I am in a guild. I was called a “huntard” by a guildie lol. Pretty awesome.

You get trait points every level once you get to level 11, maximum 70. You spend them at the trait tree which you unlock with the manuals.

Here, read the wiki.

This doesn’t pertain to my question at all. Not even in the slightest. I’m aware of what a trait point is or I wouldn’t be asking this question. I thought I left the elitist pigs behind in WoW, but I’m slowly realizing that isn’t the case.

Unuseable training manual?

7 months ? you could’ve created a new thread for this.

To sum traitpoints up:
You unlock traitlines with manuals. The levels are “Adept”, “Master” and “Grandmaster”; so you need to unlock thrice and coincidently the manual NPC sells you three different manuals.

  • You can unlock (consume the manuals) Adept as lvl11, Master at lvl40 and Grandmaster at lvl60. If you only unlocked Adept, you can’t put more than 10 points into any trait line. If you haven’t unlocked any, you can’t spend your trait points at all.
  • You get 1 traitpoint each level starting from lvl11. There are no other means to get trait points.
  • You reset your spent points (keyword “re-allocate”) at the manual npc. Not asking for a manual, but directly for a reset. The costs depends on your level, but is pretty cheap (<4s)

So weird. I got started getting trait points at level 11 without even knowing what a training manual was. never bought one, never used one. I then purchased one under the false impression that I’d unlock 10 more trait points. Obviously that didn’t work, but it doesn’t explain why the manual isn’t used. It still sits in my inventory. I’ve machine gun clicked it about a million times lol. Oh well, maybe a new patch changed the system or something? I’m very new so I wouldn’t know. Thanks for your reply!

You don’t get trait points with them. They unlock the trait point tree so you can use the ones you have. Once you have unlocked the whole tree, they are useless to you. Resetting traits is done by paying a fee to the trainer.

^This

Training books are used to unlock the trait tree.

First book -few silvers- (lv11) will unlock trait lines till 10 (Adept Traits):
Second book -1g- (lv40) will unlock trait lines till 20 (Master Traits);
Third and last book -2g- (lv60) will unlock trait lines till 30 (GrandMaster Traits).

Using a book will reset the previously chosen traits, so have to put them again! Also you must buy them in order to use the last one.

/cheers

This is a perfect answer. Thank you very much. I must have already used one and forgot about it, because I’ve already got 11 or 12 trait points. Thanks man!

Just in case you don’t know, you must double-click the book to “use” it. Just buying it does nothing. From your OP I think maybe that’s the issue?

No, if you read it again you’ll see I literally said I double clicked it. I think I understand it though now thanks

I’m sorry if this has been brought up a million times. I’ve searched and searched the forums for information and haven’t found anything conclusive.

I got trait points without buying an Adept Training Manual. I then bought one under the impression that I’d be unlocking 10 more trait points to use. I’ve clicked and double clicked and everything else and all I get is a little sound. No trait points, no trait reset, nothing. A couple people said that you use the manuals to respec, but that makes no sense. There is a dialogue option when you talk to your trainer to reallocate your trait points… Sooo…. what exactly are these manuals used for? So far, I know they don’t work for respecs, and I know they don’t unlock spendable trait points.

Anyone?

I know this post is old, but I just started playing and this makes no sense. I got trait points before I even knew what an adept training manual is. I bought one and tried to use it and nothing happens. It doesn’t make sense that it would be for respecs because there is a dialogue option for that when you talk to your trainer.

Can someone please explain this to me? What are the training manuals for??? It boggles my mind that there isn’t more information on this…
