It nerfs base ele abilities due to problems caused by the Tempest and, thus, instead of fixing the elite spec, the devs opt to kick the already down other builds to try and fix the excess of Tempest durability (Elemental Shielding and Obsidian Flesh nerfs).

They will never get balance right and will always hit other builds when trying to tone down whatever is meta/OP, because that is pretty much all that is possible with the base system of things like traits, weapons, how stats are available, etc.

On the surface the GW2 system of traits, picking any stat on any build, freely choosing weapons, etc looks like it should give lots of build variety, lots of opportunities for people to come up with new builds, but the reality is it doesn’t, because it is impossible to balance, it is too difficult to target the OP build and nerf it without hitting less strong builds.

This game would have much more genuine build variety (as in builds that at or near “viable” for a game mode), if each class simply had 3 separate trait trees like you get in some other games each aimed at a specific role e.g – support, damage, etc, they could even tie the availability of stats/weapons to a role if needed.

So sure some people would cry they have less choice with a system like that, but the reality is you would get more genuine choices, because Anet could balance things seperately so to take ele as an example they would actually be able to have a decent damage spec, because they would be able to target nerfs at the OP support spec separately.

But then this is Anet, and the Anet way of doing things is paper over the cracks rather than address the fundamental issues.

Just logged into the forum to upvote this. This is exactly the problem with gw2 they intended to buff power mes but in the end condi got even stronger. In addition, I also believe that one class should only be capable of doing one role. Therefore a one trait line system only focused on one role is the best solution to balance the game. But this is only wishful thinking anet would never revamp the system in such a way.

+1 I really hope this wont turn into a farmboard 2.0. People should be punished for losing games and even should go down devisions, so that they wont play their best when they for example enter the legendary devision just because they cant go down devisions.

@Flo I hope its true how you understood the blog post, so that players will get matched with players in their devision. This would prevent people from just spaming games and get into legendary league, where only the best players should be.

+1 This is exactly the reason why I did not log in to this game for like 3 months. I played mostly pvp since i bought it, which was 2 years ago. Because there arent any incentives to play pvp and get better at it, I am not interested playing this game anymore until we get a competetive pvp infrastructure, which Brandon described already.

Every mesmer needs to run with decoy, blink and portal (when you play ip shatter) to be competetive. You dont really have any condi remove unless you drop one of those skills which are necessary.

I personally dont like large scale pvp fights like 20vs20 because the individual player doesnt influence the fight as much. But the gvg community really deservs a game mode for them even if its just a custom arena map which supports 10-20 vs 10-20. On the other hand if they implement a large scale pvp mode i´d like to see some incentives to split up in different groups for example something like stronghold but just way bigger with 3 lanes so that the zerg splits in 3 groups. What do you guys think about this idea?

Well, Helseth also raged about the kittened ranger burst and hes one of the best mesmer players.. but thats just his point of view tho since ranger kinda counters mes atm.

+1 I really liked the mmr system in wow but the problem is that the playerbase we have wont support this system. We dont have enough players, so the que time will be even longer. But maybe a lot of players will come back if they implement this system.

I really like this idea +1. Would like to see dayli tournaments with small rewards like you already said. I just hope that anet will one day listen to the pvp community and do some changes.

I really would like to see VOIP inagme too +1. It would enchance competetive gameplay and makes fighting premades a bit easier when you pug. But i doubt anet will implement it anytime soon in pvp. We dont even have a good leaderboard, so i dont think they will do anything about it.

Before I start i´d like to say that I am not a native english speaking person, so please be nice to me. :d
I think that the pvp game mode is lacking a good long term reward system. This system would ofc require a skill based leaderboard… I didnt play since the new leaderboard system launched but I think giving winning more value is a good thing to start. Although it is still a farm board. Anyways to come back to the main topic Im gonna list some suggestions to change the current reward system. The easiest rewards to implement are titles. I would just give the old Qp titles for leaderboard positions for example Challenger of the Arena at rank 800-501, Soldier of the Arena at 500-301, Veteran of the Arena 300-101, Master of the Arena at 100-21, Legend of the Arena at rank 20-1. Maybe rank 1 could get another special title.

The next rewards i would implement is just the Glorious Hero’s armor set
and you can unlock different pieces of it with season end for example: Leaderboard position 1000-801 can get the hands, 800-501 you could get the shoes, 500-301 u can get the legs, 300-101 can get the chest and maybe can decide to get another piece of the set which is unlocked, 100-21 could get the head and finally 20-1 could get the shoulders and decide between 3 pieces. After a while they should also add different armor sets or even weapons in pvp. I would give weapons only at rank 250+ tho.

Arena net could also implement different miniatures for leaderboard position for example you can get miniature lama atm when you are rank 500. They could give you another miniature for a different position for example at rank 250-101 you can get a miniature gladiator, at rank 100-21 you could get another miniature and also at rank 20-1.

Finally i would suggest to give some gems or gold depending on the leaderboard position. Rank 1-5 should get something really special for example: 5-2 get precursor and rank 1 gets a legendary.

So what would change if we implement some good/exclusive rewards?
I think with those changes a lot more people would try to get better in pvp to get those rewards and a lot of people would try it out from wvw or pve. I for myself would play way more ranket pvp if we could get good and exclusive rewards. Then the people who play unranket would also come to try out ranket since they can get good rewards.

But those rewards could only be implemented if the playerbase would be bigger, same is with a skillbased leaderboard. A lot more people will try out pvp and the competetive scene might get better too. With the upcoming expansion we will get even more players to support this system so that the system will work out.
Pvp players will get an actual goal to play pvp and might be more active.

So let me know what you guys think about those suggestions and maybe write down some of yours.
