The pseudo-SJW “crusade” as seen in GW2 won’t likely go away, so if that’s a deal breaker, you would do well playing something else.
Considering I was infracted for simply stating my personal view of traditional marriage, it is clear you need to be careful what opinions you state ingame and in the forum. If you aren’t instep with the game’s political and social agenda, be very quiet if you decide to play this game. This can be clearly seen by the changes in the playerbase over the last year.
Agree with many of the posters here, and only played as long as I did because of the memory of GW1. I loved the lore and story of GW1 which they then proceeded to rip apart in the personal and living stories. I want the developers and writers of GW1 back. I’m tired of simplistic and juvenile storytelling. The dialogue in particular is cringeworthy. What they did to ectos, tormented and zodiac weapon acquisition shows that they really don’t understand the original lore or don’t care. I remember playing through Guild Wars Beyond- both War in Kryta and Winds of Change which was supposed to tie in GW1 with GW2 and thought that this would be great since the lore would be respected and advanced in the sequel. I was so wrong. Now that I started playing TESO a few months ago it was so refreshing to play through and hear some very good storytelling and lore and actually be interested in what happens in the quest.
I miss the builds and complexity of combat in the original, how each role was important. If they were going to replace the trinity, I don’t understand why they thought making everything DPS was a good idea. They made everything sooo easy. Don’t remember how many times I wiped in DoA and UW before getting it right. And when a group wiped, we had to start over from the beginning. GW1 combat wasn’t perfect and there were meta builds that most people used but I prefer it to the current simplistic system.
And finally, this has so much truth…
And what i miss the most. And it’s sad and true, I miss GW1 developers, that did put in a lot more community contact, i miss the days when they came on forum and in game, and chat with us for hours, i miss days when our feedback did matter a lot more then today. If i think about all the CDI that we wrote and none of this was ever checked, is sad deep in my soul to see how every single company changes over the years, it truly makes me sad. I see the effort that they make, but if you don’t talk with us, it hurts a lot.

I’ve been playing GW2 since release and GW1 before that. Interested in an active guild for the PST time zone, including guild missions since most guilds I’ve found time their guild events for EST when I am still at work. As a result, I’m unfamiliar with most guild missions except for the basic bounties. So regular guild events during times that I can attend are important.
I’m active in WvW and completed most of the achievements in PvE I’m interested in. Looking for a friendly, helpful guild willing to help new players and those doing unfamiliar activities. I have Dungeon Master but have not done a dungeon run in over a year other than the faster, easier ones like AC, CoF. Have not done much PvP (other than WvW). Willing to use voice for events. Basically getting tired of joining pick up groups, want to make new friends and do group events together again.
Thanks.
I agree that logically it makes sense to focus on YB bl but I think it would have a further effect on server morale to give up on defending garrison and EB keep which what it would take. Most of the time we’ve been able to hold them until late Pacific time when when our pop dwindles. There have been pushes into YB bl with some success.
I’ve actually had fun this week and there have been good fights even though I still sigh when I see them putting down multiple ACs and ballista in the open field even when they overwhelmingly outnumber us. And yeah our commanders sometimes get so frustrated at their hiding in keeps that we’ll charge in against their siege way outnumbered to try to draw them out.
I agree with the OP, the basic stance of my charr looks really awkward and it would look better if he was more upright instead of like a cat standing on its hind legs. But it still wouldn’t solve the issue that most armors are not designed for Charr and look completely wrong and ill fitting. Especially the head gear.
It’s hard to make out exactly what happened given the limited game mechanics for gestures, how quickly this all went down, and how small characters are on the screen, so whether the centaur attacked Faolain intending to kill her, he bumped into her on accident and sent her temper off, or he tried to detain her to make sure she made no trouble, I’m not certain, but one thing is for sure, the CENTAUR MADE THE FIRST MOVE.
What i saw was Faolain making a swing at Wynne, and only then centaurs becoming aggresive. And earlier they did warn Faolain several times that Wynne was under their protection.
Yes, that is what happened. Faolain took a swing at Wynne, which is why she ran off. The centaur next to her struck back and Faolain said “you’re gonna regret that”, then shouted “Caithe, they’ve turned on us!”
I don’t mind playing a nasty or evil role sometimes but along with others, I don’t feel the need to play a submissive, clueless and stupid character. Caithe is just not very bright, has a very dependent personality and we should have had the choice to just let Faolain get what she deserved. Nothing Faolain said even before that incident showed any redeeming qualities for Caithe to be so attracted to her.
Cannot update game, horrible download speed

Had same problem until I went back and took out the line from the Reddit hosts fix for patch from the last update:

(edited by zacharias.5437)
This really bugged me. Why did she insiste we send up a flare? It was obvious that it would give away our position to all the mordrem in the area, as Canach sarcastically pointed out. I don’t think Caithe is bright enough to lead anything.
Same thing happened to me, same place in wall. at around half life, had to kill the boss only doing 40-50 damage since I couldn’t reach the vortex. reset at about 25% health, then happened again. Last boss took me 30 min to kill this way.
Thanks, Teon, will give it a try.
So, not being a computer expert, what can I do with my settings to limit these incidents? The disconnecting is so unpredictable that I don’t know how far to lower my settings to prevent these incidents because otherwise, the game works fine.
This has been brought up multiple times before but this is becoming unplayable. It’s been months in my server SBI where I or someone in my party experiences random game crashing in EB, usually while attacking a keep or SM or during a large zerg vs zerg fight. Now it is also happening in the borderlands as well. Last night after the defenders bannered the Lord 3 times we finally were about to cap their gari when the game completely disconnected and shut down with that now familiar window asking me if I wanted to report the bug. I could only listen (again) helplessly as I heard on TS the triumphant success of our mission. Is anyone looking into this at all?
Ugh, this topic just brings up painful memories of that first season with YB and EB against SBI:
I know Anet (and many in my server) feel it is a legitimate tactic but when it is not a true 3 way competition, I don’t see why servers winning this way can be so proud. Few servers no matter how strong can win against 2 servers cooperating.
The stealth and thief defenders are actually correct, these threads are pointless. It is clear that they have no intention of nerfing thieves, stealth, or their damage output or they would have done it long ago. There is no purpose either complaining about it or for the frantic stack of defensive posts to L2P when another one of these threads come up. Ingame, I still sigh when I get downed with one hit from a stealthed player, then he stealths to finish me off but that’s it, there is nothing I can do about it.
With the population and coverage issues that most servers have exacerbated by Eotm, I thought I’d bring up (again) the idea of linking each NA server with a Eu server just for WvW. I’m sure the suggestion has come up before along with the declaration that merging or guesting between EU and NA servers wasn’t possible but the discussion was so long ago that I’m not really clear from a technological standpoint why it cannot be worked around even if they are in different physical locations.
1. elementalist
2. engineer
3. necromancer
Yeah, it’s what I thought. Y’all don’t need to worry though, Anet loves thieves so they will never be nerfed, no need to shout down every trace of criticism on these forums. Now back to WvW to listen to all the complaining about thieves on map chat and server TS.
I know I’m going to get grief for saying this but I hate thieves. They really are overpowered even as they argue about how fragile and limited they are. I’ve learned to deal with the stealth every few seconds to some extent but someone explain how it is fair that when you are downed, thieves can just stealth on top of you and finish you off? You can’t target them and no one can revive you in time. So the downed state is basically pointless against thieves.
There is such great advice here that I find myself coming back constantly to refine my skills and try different tactics. I think someone could put together a nice guide for WvW just with this thread.
I started out trying to get celestial armor but it wasn’t in my budget so I had to mix in PVT for the more expensive pieces. I am gradually changing to more berserker over time, so far survival is still good. Still working on a personal balance between support and damage.
Thanks for the advice! Having a lot more fun- dying only rarely now and it’s nice to be able to do damage
New ele questions. After multiple calls on my server for more staff eles, I decided to try out my newly leveled elementalist in WvW. And I died, over and over. Now, I realize the problem is that I’m used to being front line with a war, guard or mesmer but even when I tried staying in back, too often I end up running away or in the dirt. I can’t seem to stay in the fight consistently. Often it’s just one shot and I’m down. And it takes me forever to kill just one npc guard by myself with the staff, the damage just seems- nonexistent.
I do have exotic armor, exotic/ascended trinkets and have perused all the available builds and advice I can find. I’ve changed my traits around several times, currently using 0-0-10-30-30. Before I relegate my ele to PvE, I am asking for suggestions on:
-How do you stay alive consistently, both when roaming, in small groups and in zergs?
-What is your usual attunement/skill pattern use when attacking another zerg? Small group?
-Would going s/d be better in WvW?
-How do you tag enemies and caravans/npcs in a zerg? The staff is so slow that everything is dead before my staff attacks reach anything.
-With the upcoming update, will anything improve?

I’m in the same position. After months of asking, I have decided to let him play the game starting next year, he is currently 11 years old. He is very much into minecraft atm, the only concern I have is with the chat in LA and WvW, but then I figure the language is much worse in his school anyways since he goes to public school with half the students being bused in from downtown, every other sentence these kids say start with F..
So to be clear, if you are only experienced in ranging Lupi, are you by definition not experienced? Personally, I never join “Experienced Only”groups even though I have done Arah many times since casual groups are much more enjoyable for me- don’t like the yelling and cursing if anyone is even a step out of place or gets downed. Of course that means I often don’t find a group since 90% of the posts are experienced only.

GW1 Zodiac weapons were rare, highly prized rewards for entering an elite area steeped in Canthan lore. These GW2 Zodiac weapons look like stuffed animal carnival prizes that anyone can get if they pay enough cash. No connection with the GW storyline and a spit in the face of anyone who holds nostalgic memories of epic fights in the Deep or Urgoz’ Warren. I feel sick.
Please see this bug report thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/CM-Exp-Path-1-Glitched
Apparently, you can’t skip anything after the last chest, don’t jump off the side of the stairs and Traffa has to live.
Still bugged, no reward after Frost. Didn’t know about the cutscene, Traffa and stairs.
Thanks everyone. Was wondering if I was missing something but apparently not. It seems like a lot of people have starting doing Arah again after taking a long break, at least with the groups I join. I do try to explain about the changes but it takes a while to type it, during which someone is usually running down to pull and then it’s too late. Once even had the whole group except me jump onto that rock to range the Crusher until I told them it didn’t work anymore. I don’t really mind, they all understand when the mob pops up at the gate and we adjust.
Edit: didn’t realize that about the rezzed Hunter. will have to give that a try if we don’t have enough reflection.
(edited by zacharias.5437)
Since the last patch on Arah, I’ve been doing the first boss fight with my guild where they spawn, taking out Crusher first. Works out fine since we have enough reflection to hold off the Hunter. But I’ve been doing it with PUGs lately and it seems that none of them ever knows about the Crusher now being able to rez. So they always insist on pulling the Crusher up the hill where he rezzes the 4 silver mobs. And then someone sometimes kills the Hunter first so that he just pops back up.
So I was just wondering- is standard procedure still to pull the Crusher over to the first room past the gate and just deal with the 4 silvers? Or is there a way to pull him past the gate without rezzing them? Just trying to get advice on how to do this fight, especially with less coordinated/experienced PUGs. Thanks.
I don’t play it anymore but my guild is still pretty active in the original Guild Wars with events, etc. I would definitely recommend joining a guild because of activity level. I would go to Guild Wars Guru to check out the community.
Name: Silath
Profession: Guardian
Traited: AH
Experience: Path 1 twice, path 2 once, path 3 multiple. Path 4- 1 attempt but bugged at GL.
Gear: Exotic knights/PVT, berserker jewelry.
Time: GMT-7 (PST). Play late on weeknights, on and off all weekend.
Other: Need path 4 for DM, willing to do any path.
Alt: have fully geared warrior as well- Duskblade.
The issue for me is, Guardian isn’t needed, Warrior isn’t needed, Mesmer isn’t needed, Elementalist isn’t needed, 5 engineers can walk into a dungeon and complete it as long as they all can roll when needed.
Sure, throwing in a guardian or an elementalist helps the group complete content faster or with a greater margin for error, but it doesn’t actually enable them to do something they couldn’t do before.
In GW1 (my only other experience), if your party wiped, you were kicked out of the dungeon completely. In GW2 on the other hand, if you wipe, you can just WP and try again. So it’s true that if your party composition and roles are not adequate, you can just keep trying again and probably eventually complete the dungeon. But I would not say that is because some roles are unnecessary but that there is a mechanism in place that makes it rather difficult to not complete the objective. I have been in several groups that wiped multiple times and eventually completed the dungeon. Without adequate DPS as well as adequate support and protection I think it would be very difficult to complete most dungeons without wiping at least once. 5 glass cannon berserkers might be able to complete CoF path1 without wiping but I rather doubt most such groups would be able to complete Arah at all, even allowing for multiple wipes. I agree that skill and experience are most important, and maybe it’s just my own skill level and PUG experiences. But I want at least one high dps warrior and at least one guardian and also a mesmer in my group if possible. So, what I am asking is whether you would feel the same way if waypoints were not available in dungeons?

Just wanted to observe how last week, there were countless rants about how SBI is winning despite being lacking in skills or tactics. This week we are apparently still completely lacking in skills and tactics along with chest thumping about the score and taking our keep. Through it all I’m rather proud of the fact that, for the most part, the posts from SBI have been respectful of the skills and abilities of the other servers.
I agree, other dungeons deserve more attention and use. If it is due to quickness and ease of completion, I think SE path 1 and 3, HotW path1 and CoE path 1 are just as fast as AC or CoF, more so after the update. And the new knockdowns in AC just get very irritating after a while.
Do have to admit that I refuse to do CM anymore, since PUGs always have to try some glitch or to run past mobs and fail so the run always ends up taking forever.
Personally, the most fun dungeons are CoE, SE, and Arah.
Because of concerns about getting kicked in dungeons to benefit party member’s friends and guildies, I have started taking screen shots of party chat since it gets removed whenever I leave the party.
Please retain Party Chat even when a person leaves a party or is kicked, it makes reporting of abuse very difficult. Alternatively, listing recent party members like in GW1 would be great. Also, it is disconcerting that Guild Chat gets removed when changing to an alt, it would be nice if guild chat is retained but that is not as critical.
