Agreed. I play 1 or two hours a day if I’m lucky and I just did my dailies and worked on the festival achievements. Got just under 1k drinks, so yeah, 10 more days and I should be there.
I also like that not everyone will put in the time to get it. I don’t raid, so there are items I’ll miss out on, but this one I can earn, even with carpal tunnel and a busy schedule.
Could you please share how exactly you manage to get over 1000 gifts in 1-2 hours?
Those tips might help others on this task too.
Ah, I should’ve been more detailed (my bad). I didn’t get 1000 drinks with gifts alone. I did the dailies, a bunch of festival achievements, JP, used dusty gifts from last year, bought gifts from vendor with karma, and bought some drinks/tonics on TP using 10g I got from a Silverwastes run. Nothing extreme and it won’t be like this every night, but long weekends will make up the time needed.

Before HoT I had all the materials for meteorlogicus and just needed storm. I decided to do the crafting and though I’m not done yet, I’m loving the journey. The clues are just enough to know where to go without giving everything away. It takes she time, but I’ve experienced things in the game I never would’ve come across before, like the grotto in the grove or the lady white event in Shaemoor.
I actually am glad to be heading into things now. I like to take my time and mix up exploration with storyline and meta events. The first week was full of oohs and ahhs and endless threads of complaining on the forums. Finally, I can immerse myself in the storyline and not stories.
+1 yes please!
I’m on a Mac as well and while my hardware and specs are good, the machine runs at a hot temp and works really hard in GW2. I have to turn down super low just to stay in VB.
Also keep in mind that you can craft these things without buying mats on the TP. You would have to embark on an epic journey of harvesting, events, and crafting refinement.
You would save hundreds of gold and your story would be…. Legendary.
Perhaps it’s intended to only be a story stage setter. What if this content is essentially the prologue for living world season 3? What if Mordremoth’s death isn’t what we thing it is and we only thought he’s defeated. What if this entire storyline is meant to just give context to masteries so we can deal with what is about to happen? What if Mordremoth lives on in the corrupted Sylvari and instead of killing an single foe, we know have to defeat a race to truly defeat the dragon.
I’m not ready to give up on the story just yet.
Elite specs were intended to be a new method of character development that would require you to learn skills more slowly, overcome harder challenges, and reconsider your play style.
Really is too bad that it died because so many people wouldn’t give it a fair shot. Instead, we were given it easily and now it’s lost the greatness.
I’m slowly falling in love with the Scepter/Warhorn combo. I’ve seen great value in it with nearby allies. Lots of the skills help my teammates while still giving me some good damage cleanup skills. One target left? Use lightning orb and watch the hits stack up as they try to run.
As ramethzero mentioned above, it is ideal for teams and groups, but not fantastic for solo play. Sure, some things were nerfed, but I’m learning to work with the balances and be more versatile in my play style.
Honestly, price never even occurred to me when I first heard of precursor crafting. If the recipe is 30 spirit planks, then I’m going to go harvest the raw materials and make spirit planks. At no point did I even consider buying planks on the TP.
And that is the point. If you want it now and cheaper, just grind gold and buy it. Otherwise, enjoy the adventure of crafting it from scratch.
Oh boy, not again. Just stop, please, before there’s nothing left to do.
Though I’ve been actively playing for the last year, I’m in the same boat. I play HoT for a while on my level 80 Ele main, then play some on my Revenant. I say keep with what you are doing. There’s a lot of content for both characters to play and no rush to get it all done right now.
For me, I want to do full personal story and living world on my Revenant before taking it to HoT. That gives me the full experience of GW and gives me time to max gear and traits before running into raids and high end fractals.
No need for childish rants on the forum. The game has only been out for 5 days. Instead of sitting around begging for assistance, go play the story, do meta events, kill things, harvest things, earn achievements, do map completion, join a guild, PVP, or craft stuff. ANet never said you can’t play your new spec, they said you have to play the content to get all the traits. I’ve been playing tempest since I first logged in to HoT.
New content does not equate to giving everything everyone wants up front.

+1 to this. The character selection screen background music gave me chills. Nice music all around.
Not to de-value any personal opinions here and I totally understand them. In terms of story, it’s perfect. The pact just got owned by a force they underestimated. The terrain is foreign to the troops and leadership is beaten and dispensed. Yes, it is in shambles, and it’s meant to be.
For me, I actually love the idea that it’s up to me to figure out this mess, take control, and defeat the threat.
+1 on the zerk gear. I’m full zerk and getting owned when I slip up even once. Looking into adding in soldiers or minstrel stats, or moving to full celestial.
From a PVE perspective, I’m having lots of fun with the Tempest balances they have made. I caught myself chuckling outloud a few times when I dropped enough AOE and warhorn skills that the little white damage markers hide mobs because there are too many hits happening. It’s highly satisfying.
I’m also an elementalist main and I’m starting to understand what OP is saying. Full zerker meta is getting me killed. I’m plenty capable of dodging and do well at it, but the jungle is full of things that have new tricks.
I’m looking at changing to full celestial or mixing in some minstrel/soldier stats.
Lol seriously? The whole point of expanded challenging content is to make it so you can’t unlock everything on launch day. Maybe you guys should go play WoW…
Having a dragon per expansion actually opens up some very interesting story possibilities. Imagine how gameplay could turn if two dragons awoke simultaneously, or ganged up on tyria. What if the Sons of Svanir figure out a way to enslave Jormag rather than follow him? What if there are other good dragons that could be recruited to fight with the pact? Maybe Cathan or Elonian forces come to battle dragons in later expansions?
So many possibilities! Can’t wait to throw my money at ArenaNet for each one.
