Zerk is incredibly good for sniping opponents with GS, or dropping devastating izerkers on walls. Feel free to add a bit of survivability, but I never felt any need for it in wvw or pve.
Focus is the best offhand for WvW, its 4 is really an awesome spell. Speed buff, cripple foes and make them fall from walls. Iwarden isn’t that good for wvw imo, but you don’t really need any phantasm other than izerker anyway.
Cant’s say exactly how much I make on an event, since loots are random and DR sometimes kick in quite fast. But I’m definitely closer from 30 loots than 10.
I mainly use izerker to tag mobs, since it tags every mob it passes through. So it’s really about timing it well.
If you are saying that Mesmers are meant to solely excel in PVP, then Anet has to split PVP and PVE abilities like they did in GW1 because it will never be balanced, and THAT is the fundamental truth of all class-based game design.
No I’m not saying that.
I am saying that there is an imbalance, yes. Surprise! (seriously, is anyone honestly surprised if a MMO is imbalanced? Especially in a sub-area of the game?)
Moreover, Mesmers – or any class – aren’t dysfunctional, so the balance is “ok-ish”. I also love how people are over-exaggerating their PvE problems. If you honestly can’t get gold in a DE as a Mesmer, I hate to break it to you, but the problem isn’t the class. It’s ok to accept that one isn’t a top player. Yes, we have to work a little bit harder to get gold, compare to a Warrior just facerolling through the bunch on WW-CD and getting gold. Fair enough, there needs to be a newbie-class, too.
But we aren’t falling apart, we’re not actually farming slowly (slower yes, but slower by a small amount).Have you actually tried farming with a guardian compared to a mesmer? A guardian can fill bags in a single Shelter or Penitent camp event and get more rares without dying or even trying, by mesmer can never tag the same amount, no matter the build.
And again I stress: in-game economy MUST be balanced for all professions.
I have no problem at all filling my bags with a single penitent or shelter event as a mesmer. What weapon are you using ?
Seriously, you’re complaining about our ability to tag mobs in DE and saying chaos storm is one of our best aoe abilities… Noone mentioned izerker, which deals good aoe damage and has a quite low cooldown.
If you’re having issues in DE and playing with a staff, the issue isn’t related to the profession at all.
These changes are perfectly understandable. Phantasms were too strong, and a slight nerf was deserved.
However, mesmers have been complaining from the beginning that our DPS was relying too much on phantasms. So yeah, nerf them, but give our direct damage a little boost…
I play level 80 mesmer and warrior.
Honestly, mesmer is far stronger than what you guys seem to be thinking. My mesmer kills mobs just as fast as my warrior, can pull 3-4 mobs and has no problem tagging in events, even overcrowded ones.
The main difference with my warrior, abd the reason I use my warrior for farming purpose, is that it’s far more forgiving than mesmer. You can basically just ignore your hp bar with a warrior, while a mesmer will die quickly if you don’t pay attention. But that’s perfectly normal, imo.
If you feel underpowered compared to other classes, you should really think about changing your build/gear. I know a lot of people still go for condition damage and staff, but that’s definitely not a good farming spec.
Ori nodes not showing up as minable - Friend showed me spawns I see a ruined base like I mined it but I haven't, can mine 2 out of 5

3/5 spots bugged in both ML and CS for both of my chars.
Honestly, iwarden is now what it should always have been.
I really loved the permareflection, but being able to afk solo the deadly fire golem form sorrow embrace was perhaps a little too imbalanced.
It’s still our highest damage phantasm and can still reflect projectiles. So yeah, it’s still useful. Anyway, focus 4 is one of our most powerful skills inWvW, so i’d still bring a focus even if iwarden was total crap.
Once you have reached the top of the Eternal Battleground jumping puzzle, portal allows your whole guild to complete it in less than 2mn.
I have exactly the same problem.
I rolled a warrior for farming, cause it’s imo the only part of the game where the mesmer is really outperformed.
I just can’t imagine playing anything else than a mesmer for anything else, especially WvW.
Mantra builds are just like a signet build on a warrior : while being quite efficient, it’s incredibly boring.
Just as the signet build, a 30/30 mantra build is my favourite farming build. It allows a complete shutdown of your brain.
Given how easy it is to get, I’m glad it doesn’t look that good.
It is obviously working as intended.
I just can’t understand how someone would intend it to work that way.
Highest damage phantasm, aoe, protecting from projectiles.
With traits it gets a 100% attack and projectile reflection uptime, and is able to stack bleeding.
Why would we ever use any other phantasm if it was able to chase targets ?
I don’t know if mesmers are OP, but we are indeed really strong in PvP.
Here is why, imo :
- hard to catch : blink and various stealth skills, and you can add clones.
- hard to disable : control a mesmer and its phantasms will still deal damage.
- good control abilities : lots of dazing, crippling, stunning, knockback skills
- best downed skillset : disappear, leave a clone where people think you reappear, and deal 7k to your opponent once he’s tried to finish you twice.
Combine all of that with really decent damage, and you get a really strong class.

this has no place in GW
Why ? Most of pvp modes in MMOs come from FPSs. Why couldn’t they come from another kind of game ?
According to them, giving more liberty in skills choice would frighten casual gamers.
I’d rather have more skills choices for the same weapon (like we have for utility skills, lets us choose our 5 greatsword skills between 30 skills), but I completely agree about the “give us more freedom with our skills” thing.
+1
Nothing interesting to buy in the store atm. Give us that kind of stuff and gems exchange rate will rise dramatically.
I both agree and disagree with OP.
I disagree because most of the game mechanics are especially aimed at casual gamers (like they were in GW1) : short time to reach mx level, easy to get max-stats items. Meaning they’ll be on equal foot with hardcore gamers when it comes to numbers. And, beside GW1, it’s the only MMO I know providing that.
I agree, because as OP said, dungeons are really hard if you don’t have a solid team, making it almost impossible for casual gamers to gather enough tokens to get a complete dungeon set. And even if they reach the point where they can run through dungeons, they’ll have to run the same dungeon again and again.
Working toward a FoW armor was fun in GW1 : you just had to gather money, and there were hundreds of ways to get some. In GW2, whn you set a goal, there’s only one and only way to reach it. Well, for a dungeon, there are 3 ways, but they provide as much variety as Mass Effect 3 endings.
Most people saying they’re fine with all these restrictions are probably not level 80, or at least not fully geared in exotics.
I’m level 80.
Why does one have to be in full exotics in order for their opinion to be validated?
Currently 5-6 exotics equiped, only one crafted.
I’m fine with the restrictions, however after reading this thread, I’m thinking at least there should be some fine tuning, as it seems many of my fellow players aren’t happy with the current system.
Once you’re full exotics, you know your toon won’t gain any more power ever. Which is something I really enjoyed in GW1.
Which means that every goal you’ll aim for afterwards will only be cosmetics. To achieve those goals, we need to figure out a way to reach them. OP just states that current ways to achieve those goals feel like a huge waste of time.
move from dungeon to dungeon and event to event problem solved. if your not already doing that than you have no intreast in playing the game, just makeing you Kitten bigger
Give me global dungeon tokens that I can use for any set and i’ll be incredibly happy to farm other dungeons.
When your kitten is fully grown, the only goal left is to make it cuter. And I’m perfectly fine with this, I really enjoyed gearing my toon in GW1. And a lot of people did, since GW1 was only about appearance (gear, titles, minis, etc.).
Unfortunately, in GW2, we have to farm the same dungeon again and again (and again x50) to get a dungeon set. That’s the way this game is designed.
And this thread is about complaining for being punished for playing that way.
Oh, by the way, I guess all of this makes your argument invalid.
Indeed.
Current system prevents people from playing with their friends who want a different set. Given the time investment needed, it’s hard to imagine doing 50+ dungeon runs for basically no reward.
Oh and make those token account bound too, please.
Most people saying they’re fine with all these restrictions are probably not level 80, or at least not fully geared in exotics.
We’re on a MMO. On any MMO, there will be people with huge playtime, that will be far ahead of others. And listening to their complains is often a good idea, cause they’re at a point that everyone will reach eventually.
About the current topic, when you’re level 80, full exotic and 100% map completion, all that’s left to do is to work some nice looking items. There aren’t a million ways to get some, you pay for them or you farm dungeons. And I’m not talking about getting a small sum like 20 golds to craft a full exotic sets.
Problem is, everything that allowed to gain some money has been nerfed. Dungeon runs too.
Dungeons are the most obvious and astonishing non-sense. For a complete set and some weapons, we need around 1500 tokens. A run will grant ~20 tokens, depending on the dungeon. Meaning we have to do 75 runs of the same dungeon, with the same character (tokens are soulbound)… but we aren’t allowed to farm dungeons.
Same goes for money : we’re supposed to obtain huge amounts of money to pay for cultural armor, but we aren’t allowed to farm for money.
Legendary weapons are a special case : they require us to farm everything, while we can’t farm anything.
If you feel weak as a mesmer, you’re either low level or not playing it right.
Same here :
100% map, all explorer achievements = 97% achievement, 98% character, 97% medal.
