Enough with the gem store
Dont see anything gamebreaking there. As long as they keep p2w items out of gem store ill be happy with it.
What exactly is wrong with this?
Perhaps I am overlooking something, but all I see is a list of cosmetics, along with a few conviencies added to the gem store.

The things I find wrong:
-RNG within the gem store
-Slowly reaching the point where new things are only in the gem store
-Gold/gem exchange will rise up to the sky
Looks pretty interesting. Nothing gamebreaking but still interesting enough to warrant a few dollars/gems spent. Will definitely be buying the dance book.
I really like the way they are using the gem store to offer cool little flavor items.
Little confused about the RNG complaint by the OP. Dont really see any RNG items listed at the link.
Dragon Festival?!?
:D
From the list of 13 items on the link you provided, there are only 2 that seems to be RNG.
Dragon Festival?!?
:D
Cantha OMG \o/
Well, maybe not :P
But either way, I really want those new tools, the harves sickle and logging axe!
Only Issue I got is they are putting a lot of skins in the store and havnt updated in game items have we seen a full new set of armor for any classs since launch ?
I’m pretty sure everyone in my guild will be buying those dance moves

I don’t care for the RNG on items from the gem store. That is my only issue.
I’m pretty sure everyone in my guild will be buying those dance moves
They are pretty incredible. Currently you can get them from the boxes of fun, and I dare say they are the best part about those otherwise silly boxes.
Oh my god, dance moves. Yes, thanks you! I can’t wait for this
I don’t see what’s wrong with this. As long as there are no p2w items. For example, gear that is stronger than what we can get ingame, perm versions of the boosters we can buy etc.

Sounds great! And Dragon Festival? That sounds like a lot of fun, just like the old days of GW1. Hopefully dragon masks will make a return, as well. =)

well they could have just giving them to you or put the armors in game from an event chest, any new content that’s not 20mins of PvEing ends up in the gemstore…. all them armor skins could be rare drops in the dungeon or tokens from it.
Not a fan of RNG from the store,, otherwise no issues with the stuff they do add in the store otherwise.
Looks really cool!, minus anything with RNG, waste of money and development time.
RIP my fair Engi and Ranger, you will be missed.

That’s what I’m seeing. LOTRO has 15 backpacks all stylish in game and that can be purchased from the store if you don’t want to do crafting. How many will GW2 have after this? 4. (if this is true)
Most likely what we’ll also see is engineers still won’t be able to toggle their backpacks anymore while using kits (so we’ll be left out of wearing these things).
The other thing I’ll see is that they still will expect fully that new players who are trying to catchup to their friends will by gems to convert to gold so they can get the stuff they need since there’s still a embargo on legit farmer players going on in this game. (saw a piece of exotic armor in the TP for 8 gold no lie, and one of the really difficult to find craftable superior runes was almost 10 gold each) and people say prices have gone down! HA!
I’m all for making money on a title but there’s gotta be a better way than killing crafting in the game because the mats are so scarse you’ll get mugged for having them, and all development for items in the game cease because it’s all focused solely on what’s in the store on next month’s sale.
(edited by tigirius.9014)
new armor skins, swimshorts and a craft/forge anywhere tables o.o
Hope new armor is sexy.
and… HATS! Hopefully this game will eventually have as many as TF2.
I’m buying those dances, that axe, and that sickle.
Bring on more awesome gem store items!

I see nothing that concerns me. As to RNG, if the gamble items sell, ANet will continue using them. The only way they will be discontinued is if they are not a profit-maker. If you dislike the RNG stuff, your only recourse is to not buy and hope enough people think the same.
The key to the RNG is the sense that “this time I’ll get lucky” Players who want a skin end up spending far more money (on average) to obtain the skin than they would if were straight up offered for sale.
Omg I would be so happy! They desperately need new armor skins in the gem shop, and the Dragon festival…I certainly hope it’s still got it’s lore steeped in Cantha!
People are completely missing the point of this thread…
I don’t think anyone is arguing that the things in the gem store aren’t good… the issue is that ALL the new content is only attainable through the gem store… which would be absolutely fine if this was a f2p game… but we paid $60 for this game (and some people paid even more for the collectors edition) only to be locked out of all the new additions
This very much seems like the case of having your cake and eating it too for ANet… they want to charge people for the game but also use the f2p business model by reserving any sort of desirable new content for the gem store
Either charge people for the game but then add items that could be just as easily attained just by playing the game or just make this f2p and be kings of the cash shop

Based on what assessment? ANET just spent all of April dumping weapon skins into the market.
Only the Southsun Cove chest contains random items. Chance for a wide variety of shoulder skins, rare chance for weapon skins and mini pets.
The chance at a wide variety implies an overall reasonable chance but if you are looking for one in particular you may not be happy. And of course the dreaded rare chance. Hopefully players have learned what that means. If this item doesn’t sell well, then I hope the Gem store people at ANet get the hint.

My onliest wish is that for the new hats we have HAIR.
RNG chests for dragon festival AND the return to Karkaland!?
Ah, should have searched for “rare” and not “chance”.
RIP City of Heroes
Hm, I wonder if we will need to buy 131 keys again, to get 1 weapon?
Hmmmm….
I’ll certainly be stocking up on gems for the Unbreakable Axe/Sickle. From those items, we can conclude that a return to Southsun Cove is in order, and ANet has plans for the Dragon Festival coming up soon.
i certainly don’t mind it. : ))
and you seemed to have neglected the fact that there is a ton of content (including cosmetic items) being poured out into the game, in-game, through playnig the game as well.

I agree with this. It’s starting to cost a fortune in gold to get anything from the gem store. I’ve been no-lifing this game for the past month, and was barely able to afford the molten mining pick. Now I’m probably going to have to start selling off my assets to afford the other unlimited tools. I’m not one for cosmetic items, however these unlimited tools I see as more of “max gear” and my character wouldn’t be complete without them.
Gem store items are awesome…I just don’t think I’m willing to put more real world money into the game. Non-paying players like myself are starting to get excluded from a lot of real content, and that to me seems against the Guild Wars mission.

Yes, because $10,- for a molten mining pick is going to make you have to sell off all your assets.
Just don’t be a cheapskate if you don’t like to farm and use real money. You can either farm 5 hours in-game to buy it, or work 1 hour, buy it from the gemstore and do something you actually enjoy the remaining 4 hours. I mean seriously, what the hell is $10,- anyway?
btw, doesn’t anyone else feel that it’s wrong to decrypt data in the gw2 files in order to reveal spoilers for upcoming updates?

Actually, it’s brilliant viral marketing!
Too bad the bigshots in the game industry are too dense to realize anything about their audiences past market data.

As long as you’re not for some reason morally repulsed by the idea of farming the most efficient area in the game, you can make more than 5g per hour.

CoF Path 1 isn’t affected by DR. Well, it is, but the bulk of the money comes from things that are not affected by DR at all. Events are one Champion (10s drop), acolyte room (10s chest), and final boss (15s drop, distinct from the token and money reward).
That makes 10+10+15=35s in drops , not counting any items, tokens, etc. that drop along the way; and that’s only the baseline with no +gold find buffs. You can get 40% gold from monsters with food, and another 20% from an infused amulet. You could also get another 15% from guild buffs, but I don’t think that’s overly common (even if it’s probably worth it).
10+1.2x(10+15)=40s if you only have the amulet.
10+1.4x(10+15)=45s if you only have the food.
10+1.6x(10+15)=50s if you have both.
10+1.75x(10+15)=53s75c if you also have the guild buffs.
And that’s doable with an experienced group every 7 minutes or so. And it doesn’t include the ~6s on average you’ll be getting from wondrous bags. And it doesn’t count the money for dungeon completion. And it doesn’t count drops from the two chests per run. And. . .yeah, you should get the idea by now. . .
Would rather pay a monthly subscription and earn this stuff ingame tbh.
I have no problem with ANet making a profit, or with people who want to gamble, but crafting has been almost entirely neglected since launch. At one point crafting was the best non-RNG way to attain cool stuff, but that passed quickly.
When new recipes are added, why do they go to the mystic forge? When new weapons, armor, and townclothes are added, why do they go to the gem store?
When ANet finally does add something to crafting, the recipes are only attainable through random drops (dungeon jewelcrafting recipes), instead of the existing discovery system, or the recipes aren’t even learnable (Sentinel Insignias).
C’mon ANet…balance it out a little.
Free to play games = not fun or cheap to get good stuff (hello gem store). Pay to play = you get good stuff for considerably less effort and money because devs get their salaries paid by your monthly subscription fee. Deal with it.
It’s a revolving wheel. No gem store income for anet means no next big update and no new limited time items you can only get thru gem store so anet can make new update with new limited time items you can only get thru gem store so they can make new update blablablabla

Yes CoF p1 is a good way to farm gold, which will net you around 4-5g per hour. There are also some other farming spots that are actually even more profitable (which I won’t reveal cause then everyone will be rushing to them and it won’t be profitable anymore, obviously). And about DR…. there are ‘ways’ of getting around it.
