Those are not the same. They have the same name but the BLC versions are account bound. The limiting reagent will likely be the boosts rather than the tonics anyway.

Also to the person who posted the angry post that was promptly deleted, this update is for the people who spent a lot of money on the cash shop to get utterly nothing festive at all. Calm the kitten down.

Some people really like cosmetic items, and playing with the look of their character.

I never understood the argument that cosmetic items don’t matter. If they didn’t matter, they wouldn’t be in the game at all. It’d just be a huge waste of development time and resources, making different looking armor, weapons, and all that.

Lol.. no really, you should see these items as long term obtainment, you just need to get the recipes for them unlocked (this is with Halloween themed items), once you unlock those you can craft them when ever you want. Start saving your lodestones.

You also need the Superior Sigils of the Night. Don’t forget about those (100 candy corn each plus other crafting mats).

OMG I wish i read this right when it was posted. After the Halloween event started, I had 26 mystery tonics and immediately destroyed them, as I find them a waste of an inventory slot.

I’m glad that you are doing something with these trash items, just wish i held onto them.

figures. i find out those 21 tonics i threw away (i throw them away out of habbit… since you cant do anything while your in the mystery forms) i now will need.

Guess even after opening 21 chests… getting 21+ tonics.. throwing away the tonics but keeping the rest.. i still will be SOL when it comes to even useing the recipy mentioned above =T

2. If tons of players get the skins they wanted now, even more whining would then be about how things are stupid and meaningless because everyone can have them. Which is a legit complaint as opposed to the “OH I OPENED CHESTS, GOT NOTHING, PLEASE GIVE ME STUFF NOW”.
Also players who actually spent big gold to get the skins off the TP will be very angry now that the skins won’t be as unique and that they are gonna crash hard in price.

I thought they removed the others from the game to save bank space. I never get anything but Mystery Tonics.

Sure glad I opened about 75 of those chests and got nothing and then proceeded to delete the 150 mystery tonics I had cause they are worthless, sure wish I knew about this sooner FML!

A 400 Artificer can craft the tonics for fairly cheap (but they are account bound, so you’ll need to make them yourself).

At least these are holiday themed chests, which I think they should have been from the start. Mad King chests are a great idea, these should have dropped during Halloween, while the keys should have worked on them.

There’s a difference between QQ’ing about not getting a ‘event’ item out of 1-5 chests openings… its a totaly different matter when you open 40+ like some of us have.. + spending 40+$ on keys for.. and STILL get nothing.

Please also design a way to restore trashed boosts and mystery tonics! I got rid of several boosts and a stack of 77 mystery tonics (that’s 12 Mad King Chests!) yesterday after buying 20+ keys to open 30 chests(some keys dropped in the chests) Anyway, I didn’t have the bag space for a lot of that stuff and thought it was useless. I got a endless mystery tonic so I thought I didn’t need the regular ones…

You knew there was only a CHANCE to acquire random items from the chests, but you didn’t know that rate they dropped, yet you tried your luck without knowing any data on the droprates. If you were smart you would have just exchanged the gems you bought for 40+$ for gold and bought the item you actually wanted (and even more!), right off the TP. Easy as that. Now everyone will be running with these no more unique skins, since the prices will drop now on TP.

The people who invested in halloween items also took a chance, as decreasing rarity of items after initial presentation is not unheard of. Those who are smart and do their research definitely have an eye on the dev blog and probably liquidated all sales in the interim between this blog post and its prophecy.

It goes both ways, and the winners both times are the people who use their brains.

Seeing as I never wasted any precious bank space on those essentially useless tonics, tossed out the XP boosters which are useless to a lvl 80 character and sold the remainder of my BLCs in disgust after spending considerable coin to unlock a good number of them to no good purpose, this announcement just fills me with joy.

ANET did the right thing here. I’ve litigated this to death in previous posts, but it has really been a breath of fresh air to see good customer service. It’s good for the players AND good for business. The right move all around. There were flaws with the original system, and it looks to be corrected.

The people criticizing or thinking that ANET just caved to “whiny QQrs” are missing the big picture. All this whining actually made a difference and led directly to a healthier system. Nobody is perfect, and the desire on the part of ANET to make things right really gives me faith in them and the desire to continue supporting their game with my money.

The skins will still be kind of rare. They will still be limited. and not everyone likes them. So I think there is a chance that not everyone will be running around with them :P

I doubt skins are just going to suddenly flood the world, they’ll probably be rare from these chests too.

This “second chance” is more likely just an attempt to effectively increase the drop rate on the skins retroactively by some defined amount.

Why would you toss out the XP boosters? Do you not have mats or siege weapons you want to upgrade? Levels = profit as much as anything else.

Ouch, hurts a bit seeing as I used all of my mystery tonics to participate in the costume brawl. I didn’t have too many though, around 32. However, its a nice idea and I’m sure other folks will benefit from this!

If you have stacks of mats, you can upgrade them with 1 of the next tier mat, mystic coins, and philosopher’s stones, which you buy with skill points. You get a random amount of mats for the next tier. You can also do the same with the lodestone pathways which can sometimes save some money.

Of course, this is a lot more important if you’re going for legendaries and mystic weapons, both of which need heavy cost skill point items for crafting.

Well, that’ll teach me to delete my mystery tonics :-\

Remember, if you have artificer at 400 you can craft mystery tonics with 1 vicious claw/fang crystalline dust and water!

I don’t know how I feel about this, after 80+ chest, which I had to buy at least 80 keys for, I did win the skin lotto and got the GS skin among 3 shoulder skins and 1 reusable tonic. Now my luck feels cheapened. I say these mad king chest should have a different set of skins in them. Even better why not put the three 4 hour skins, that only the rich can make into permanent weapons, into these new chest???

On another note, why are some weapon types not given any love? Ideally you should have made a set of skins for each weapon type. Well 3 sets to be exact, one set for the blc, one set for the 4h with each having a perma crafted version, and a last set for your new mad king chest.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad you’re eager to please but you should also not cheapen the rarity of these skins while keeping the less attainable ones extremely rare since only the 1% can craft them.

I wonder if people realize that this doesn’t make things much better since it’s still linked to Black Lion Chests which are linked to the cash shop.

After playing several hours since the event started I only got 2 keys, 1 of which was for clearing an area. I am saddened when people actually spend money on keys and get no reward.

Oh that’s cool. Shame I scrapped the 203 tonics I had yesterday from wasted chest openings. Oh well.

In the next event people will be more mindful of buying gems with gold. You should see an increase in the baseline gem price from now on as they are in more demand to prep for the next holiday event.
