I suggest clicking the link and filing a complaint, i asked for a refund and it got banned for being inflammatory and got infracted for it… basically they put it in the PLAYERS HELPING PLAYERS section so now since apparently asking for a refund is against the terms just filled out for something that matters in the real world
To the person above me and NO we didnt know they were rare it was not advertised that way nowhere is the words used it says one of six skins discover the secrets of the blc. The only secret was they were scamming people, us mad people agree with you we wouldnt spend 1$ on a chance to win something

Why do you think casinos exist in real life? Even the government doesn’t put gambling as illegal activity.
First, this is an MMO NOT a casino. When did it become acceptable for video games to be considered CASINOS?
Secondly, the federal government does not put limits on gambling because of the land usage which makes it a sovereign right of the state governments, of which in the vast majority of states in America gambling is illegal. The only exception is Native American reservation lands, which is how most states (like Michigan and Washington State where ArenaNet is HQd) have casinos.
Are you being forced to gamble with keys? no? then DON’T do it.
No one are being forced to gamble their own money to get some silly skins, it’s because they WANT to by their OWN will.
I never bought a single key of BLTC and I enjoy this game A LOT.
Good that you didn’t, neither did I. However, ArenaNet still needs to make cash to survive and deliver all of us content. When you upset the customer base enough that they refuse to spend money in the shop we ALL lose. I’ve been through this in two other MMOs that both trashed their titles for these quick gains. Long term, it does have a negative effect on all of us – that is the main part that concerns me.
there is !!!1!!! gamble chest in gem store and about 50 things that you know what they do and what they give you I don’t really see problem here
ghostwhisper > I am sorry but that will never pass … things is each chest you opened gave you something
you are asking for refund because you gamble and It gave you items you did not want

ok, so let me get this right.
On the other hand, nowhere in any official response did they say that the skins were guaranteed or that there was a high chance of getting them. The argument relies on the semantic assumption of what “chance” means to you, and that is actually a vague enough term to make you cautious of any assumptions. Some people consider 1/100 a low chance, and some consider it a moderate or high chance depending on the context, but you cannot say that default assumption is that it is a high or low chance. One can safely assume that you will spend $5 – $10 on a virtual item in an MMO. That is pretty standard. However, when a person spends $100 on keys, gets nothing and then effectively puts another $50 worth for a second chance (since the forge require two chests worth of stuff) and STILL gets nothing it has long past reasonable assumption. This is simply about how do you get people to pay ten to twenty times what they would consider reasonable for a virtual item (remember the outcry in EVE over the $70 cosmetic item?).
What has happened here is simple, it’s a fleecing to try and get more cash then people would reasonably spend. Mark my words, this second chance is only going to reinforce why people will not use the cash store in the future.
The person understood that the items were rare and chose to gamble. ANet did not force them.
I gambled once in another game, lost something like 50 dollars, did not get anything decent, never gambled again.
I will spend 50 dollars on a single in game item if I think it is worth it, but I won’t spend 1 dollar on a chance to win something.
Again, show me in the original patch notes or the store where this was listed as rare. It wasn’t. In fact, the store leads you to believe you will always get something Halloweeny. So, no, not everyone KNEW the chances were rare. Get the point here? Not only were the chances extremely rare, the materials presented to the average player were also very misleading.

show me where they stated it was a high chance or guaranteed drop.
Participating or not, Still shouldn’t be an option.
There’s different ways to finance your game, kittenit.
You mean like subscriptions?
That’s an alternative, not going to happen, obviously, they make more money without a subscription.
No, what i mean is Just the crates, Gambling shouldn’t be an option, They’re likely making more than enough from the various outfits available, the effort/profit ratio for those kind of things are obscene, Why do this? It’s not necessary, and quite frankly it’s insulting.
Sleep time, I’ve been voicing my opinion for several hours now. I’m tired.
ok, so let me get this right.
RARE
1. Infrequently occurring; uncommonGAMBLE
1. A bet, wager, or other gambling venture.
2. An act or undertaking of uncertain outcome; a risk: I took a gamble that stock prices would rise.So people spent their money to gamble on a rare skin, knowing that the % would be very low (if everybody had one it wouldn’t be rare)
The because people complained on the forum they go back and pretty much make a new gamble using trash stuff. And again (you shouls know it is still a low %) people didn’t get what they wanted so AGAIN we complain on the forum.
Tomorrow ANet will just mail everyone a voucher for a skin or put them on the BLTC, so that EVERYONE will have this RARE skin…..
I myself spent $50 dollars on keys and didn’t get squat, I then used my tonics and boosts to make MKCs and got a few crafting mats…I moved on and am playing the game happily because I knew it was a GAMBLE to begin with.Have we noticed the usage of RARE & GAMBLE
Please show everyone on these forums where the store or patch notes say the chance is rare. Please do. I can tell you many of my guildmates do not come to the forums at all and believe the chests are bugged – not that the chance is rare since nowhere in game does it tell anyone that, even to this day with the new Mad King Chests.
This whole fix is commonly known as “rubbing salt in the wound”.
Do people not get the concept, they are rare weapon skins that are being gambled for.
If you go to a casino and play games and they are having a drawing for say a car. You should know that the % of you actually winning money or the car is going to be low.
Gambling means that usually the odds are stacked against you. I have seen plenty of people linking that they got the skins. So the chests can’t be bugged.Nor did I say ANet said the chance was rare, it is a rare item for a reason. If everyone could win one why post it as a rare…that is my point.
Show me where in Anets advertising of the game, including all interviews and official blogs about GW2 does it mention that GAMBLING would be part of the game. If you can’t show me that, seriously leave this thread.
Are you going to argue to me that “other” games do this also? Mainly korean/asian made mmo’s? Then Anet SHOULD make it CLEAR that it is their intention to do so. It makes it easier for everyone. Those who do NOT like it, can leave the game. Including myself.
Will you now argue to me that those are “vanity” items and not needed? Sorry to burst your bubble but those “vanity” items ARE THE ENDGAME. There is absolutely NOTHING to look forward to once you have completed all the content that you wanted to play. To summarize, in case you did not get it, you play the game in ORDER to get those vanity items. If you can’t or not allowed to, then its game over. I will bet you over 90% of current player population will tell you that they keep playing the game FOR the vanity items.
i could show you screenshots but not worth the effort of giving you three sites showing what in basic english translates to hey look you may have to mulligan for stuff or trade around for what you want but not get jack kitten… sorry mate and then baiting and switching it then saying look its themed now… still woudlnt pay 50$ for consummables in a game period
lets hear the whole story.
“get a chance to get the 6 themed skins from halloween”- “Discover the Secrets of the Black Lion chest”-
Cool!!! ill support ArenaNet with my hard earned cash and ill get some sick skins
its a win – win situation right?
Nowhere to be found the odds about getting a skin from chest, i dont come from gw1, this is my first experience with Anet, you know what i tought, “i love this game!” ill buy some keys, they are just skins right?
20 chest no skins, LOADS! of mystery tonics some booster and some black lion assorted tools.
wait, where are the skins?
ok, tantrum mode on.
“get a second chance they said”
12 MKC:
130 Candy corns
15 Nougat center
3 Mummy tonics
3 Spooky skeletons tonics
3 spooky zombie tonics
1 Onyx shards
1 charged shards.
so, i payed 30$ to get what i can already have doing 2 days of the event?
lets convert that to gold rate:
15g+ worth of keys
for about under 1g i got in the MKC, yet more gamble and i got more tonics, not even some 4hrs skins that i can wear like a consolation prize, this trade seems a bit off for me.
For you to know Chance is very complex word, what does chance stands for? 1/2 chance to get the skins? 1/100? 1/1000?
if i knew this would be like this i would have not buy those keys because I HATE!!! gambling ive never been a lucky guy with RNG so i never do it at least in RL because we all know MMOs involve lots of RNG.
so, for you to know, i wont buy anymore keys ever and to be honest there could have been more ways to implement this skins with out luring innocent customers like me into this.
for me you have failed, and hard Arena net.
Event its awesome i wont deny it, but this leaves a really sour taste in my mouth, so at least from me, dont expect any more $ involving keys and gambling.

All it takes is ONE thing to upset customers enough to not buy anything of the other 50. Fact of business. Always has been and always will be.
Good example, I know quite a few people that have been repeatedly burned by EA and their DLC/DRM to the point they will not buy anything from EA again (myself included) no matter what it is. See the point? ArenaNet has taken ONE item, and significantly upset a lot of customers who now will not spend anything in the store.
Again, short term gain – long term pain.
Prior to buying gems for this event, I loved ArenaNet. Afterwards, I was really mad.
I’m still willing to give the benefit of doubt to the team and say they made a bad call on this one, but I’ve learned my lesson and will not be buying keys from ArenaNet ever again.
Note: Games like League of Legends sell skins for anywhere from $5-$30. This is reasonable. How much does ANet expect their players to pay with this crazy lottery system? $120+?

I still do not see point … few recent ea bw games da 2 trash mass effect 3 kittenwtor epic fail … I will never buy anything from ea … but sorry you went and gamble if you see costume on store you got 100% chance you get it …
You hate gambling yet you did it over and over again…
You hate gambling yet you did it over and over again…
have you ever heard about “one more time”… thats the reason i dont like to gamble or at least try not to because it ends like this.

You can still get the skins easily in tf2, The only difference is one being an unusual and having a sparkly (arguably pretty lame) effect.
Responsibility is irrelevent, it flat out shouldnt be there in the first place. At all. You’re all jumping at other players at being the root of the problem. Throwing around words like “entitled” and “responsibility”. That’s completely irrelevant, This shouldn’t be in the game in the first place, We shouldnt be having this discussion. It flat out shouldn’t be here. there’s no place for it. it’s an archaic form of business.
Also, VERY FEW top tier mmorpgs have this sort of real money gambling, the only one recently to introduce a similar thing is Runescape, and and that was met with the same controversy as this is, i dont understand where you’re pulling “EVERY MMORPG” from, But that’s an outright lie. No other AAA developer would be caught dead encouraging Real life gambling to minors, It just doesn’t happen. even Activision-blizzard have standards.
And i’m pretty sure i’ve said this several times, But minors play this game, how is encouraging minors to gamble the responsible thing to do?

Just let you know, people are willing to pay thousands of dollar of real money to get a silly hat with silly effect. Last time I checked a burning team captain worth $5000 and you know what? It’s all about cosmetic and people are still willing to buy key and gamble without whining like this. Go and check tf2 community for yourself, no one ever whines of losing money because they are opening 100 crates without getting unusual.
The problem is a lot of people enjoy gambling and risk their money by doing so. They get self satisfaction by getting lucky or disappointed for being unlucky. It seems people here can’t accept the fast that they are losing money for having a bad luck.
RESPONSIBILITY plays a lot in this, because you are responsible on how you going to spend your money. Unless you are a 13 y.o. who doesn’t know how to spend your money responsibly this is a serious issue.
Maybe Anet should put “GAMBLING RESPONSIBLY” before anyone can buy key.
Gambling will always be an option inside video game or in real life and you can’t deny that fact. Even precursor are gambling with expensive stuff, I’ve seen people losing hundreds of gold trying to craft dusk from mystic forge.
The point is you don’t have to gamble to enjoy this game. I am myself also don’t like gambling, but I hate people who whine that they are losing money because they gamble even if the know the risk.
your wrong you buy gems in chunks you prepay and no you cant be refunded. i.e 50$ = 4000 gems you clicka couple times figure its bugged click some more and then are like WTF? then youkittens talk about chances and rare and how your making bank off the tp? i dont want to make bank i want what i paid for or a refund… Simple i dont want to “gamble” where are these words on the site where are the odds where at the chance ratios they are not… you say do research? how about give what was advertised… dont small print us away and say pictures do not represent whats inside… its bogus
Anet did not force anyone to spend their money.
Anet did not say what our chances were at receiving a skin other than to say it existed. How you chose to determine whether or not your chances were good or bad was of your own accord.
There was no trickery here.
Just the prospect of something cool was offered.
There were no lies.
There was no secrecy.
There were no promises.
There was just you and how youre choosing to paint the situation in your mind.
Whether your pleased with your earnings or youre not, it doesnt matter.
Anet will do things like this again and will continue to make money.
It is a business.
Stop acting as though your incessant blabbering will accomplish something.
I concur with OP… I am a n00b to this cash shop thing. I had no idea the odds were THAT low. I dropped about 30 bucks to support anet and didnt get what i wanted. Needless to say, I wont be spending any more money. I imagine a lot of people are in the same boat as me. I am not complaining, I’m not mad… just learned a hard lesson about anet. A lesson I wont soon forget when it comes to supporting this company.
I just used the tonics and boosters I happened to have saved. Made 22 Mad King Chests, I got Recipe: Gift of Spiders, Recipe: Gift of Moon, and a ton of event crafting mats. I didn’t think it was so bad.
And thats the way the cookie crumbles. Anet stated you have a chance to get a skin, that doesnt mean youre guaranteed to get one no matter how much money you throw at the screen.
would have been to hard to state the “chances” to get the skins? i doubt so.
theres a chance the earth can explode right now.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Whips-New-weapon-idea/first
Honestly , not gonna give then 1 cent outside the exp packs…
Then again i guess they dont care about my opinion , im not giving them money.
Still gonna say it , RNG was a bad call , could make stuff hard to get because of effort , like the craft items.
And thats the way the cookie crumbles. Anet stated you have a chance to get a skin, that doesnt mean youre guaranteed to get one no matter how much money you throw at the screen.

Is that chance greater than getting a skin? because I would believe it. =)

I never seen MMO or any online game stating odds or % of winning …
I guarantee if they put it had a 1 in 10 chance to give a skin, the forums would be flooded with people complaining that they didnt get a skin after buying 10 chests. Posting stuff like that complicates matters way too much to even think about doing so.

I opened three and got the shield skin. The game owed it to me because of all the rares and exotics I have thrown away in the hopes of a legendary precursor.
While I agree that the chests/skin are too tied to RNG, you should be responsible with your actions.
I didn’t know what were the exact drop rate. The only information we had is ‘a chance’ or ‘a rare chance to drop…’. Yes, I think they could give us the exact RNG number, but I told to myself:
Well, heck, I don’t even know what is the drop rate is, why in the world I would blow my money on something uncertain.
Well, Anet should have released the drop rate numbers, it could have spared them so many problems.
About “must have them” part.
If you can use greatswords, you’re fine with usual ingame skins, because they’re awesome.
But other classes not so lucky, and the scythe staff skin is the only one really good skin for Necro.
ok, so let me get this right.

These are not the Legendaries people are grinding to get to at end game. Nowhere was I rude to anyone, so don’t tell me I need to leave the thread.
One of my guildies got one skin from the first chest he opened with a key he got from a drop today so he bought another key and got an endless tonic…. lets just say the guild is not talking to him right now.
Prior to buying gems for this event, I loved ArenaNet. Afterwards, I was really mad.

If you wanted to buy the chain sword skin, last I checked it was about 6 gold. At its peak, during the halloween event, the exchange rate for gems was 100 gems for 1 gold. 100 gems costs $1.25, so $1.25 * 6 = $7.50 for a guaranteed chainsword. Chainsaw greatsword was 50 gold (don’t know how much it is now) so $1.25 * 50 = $62.50 for the most expensive item in this event, but if I had 50 gold I would probably use it for something else.
It is also worth it to note that is extremely possible playing 1 hour a day to average 1-3 gold. So that’s 7 – 21 gold per day assuming you’ve been playing regularly, which means you get the chainsaw greatsword, the most expensive thing in this patch, for a little more than 2 weeks of play if you only have 1 level 80 character.
Gold has zero real world value and is an ever expanding currency. You can’t say the same for real money. Don’t ever forget that.
to those saying they only promised chance… misintrepret that.. They have seen the player plight and decided instead to add free salt to the wounds… AWESOME
I think these drops are perfectly acceptable, at least you can get something Halloween related now and you get a second chance at dropping the rare skins.
However I think these items should have dropped from the chests right from the start, the whole reason people assumed that they had such a high chance of getting a skin is because the skins where the only Halloween related items you could get from the chests. If there where other items like these in the list people might have realized that the skins would likely be a lot rarer than these items and not gotten their hopes up so high, but at least have had something to show for the chests that they did open.
kaffaljidhma.1496
If you wanted to buy the chain sword skin, last I checked it was about 6 gold.
When did you see one for 6 gold? On the first day of the event perhaps? You might want to change your calculations a bit, they sell for at least 30 gold at the moment.

Okay, let’s break this down for you and everyone else to understand. Before we start, let’s toss one rule out there to keep this as logical as possible, and that rule is that your opinion doesn’t matter. Whatever you think an MMO should or shouldn’t do and should or shouldn’t be doesn’t matter because we’re discussing what is.
- So ANet created these fantabulous item skins inside BLCs for players to GAMBLE on during the Halloween event.
- These skins provide nothing to the player beyond vanity, therefore making them OPTIONAL.
- Players spent varying amounts of real money, in a system that can be manipulated with the use of in-game currency, to purchase the above mentioned BLCs.
- The odds of obtaining these RARE skins was never announced and players only had the definition of RARE to go by.
- Players didn’t receive desired items and went into a forum rage, implying they are somehow being coerced into OPTIONAL GAMBLING.
- ANet decides to attempt to make amends by producing a MKC that can be crafted with all the “useless junk” the aforementioned players received.
- Once again there is no announcement to the odds of obtaining RARE skins, however it is guaranteed players will at least obtain Halloween based items.
- Once again players spend more real money, in a system that can be manipulated with the use of in-game currency, to purchase BLC in an attempt to obtain RARE skins.
- Failure to do so results in aforementioned players crafting MKCs with “failed” BLC items and attempting to obtain the RARE skins again.
- Some players don’t receive desired items, instead only receiving Halloween based items like ANet stated, and proceed to go into a forum rage about being cheated by OPTIONAL GAMBLING. (even though the tooltip for MKC states the skins are RARE)
Boy, you guys sure did get shafted by ANet. /sarcasm
Seriously, you guys have nobody to blame but yourselves. You took the risk, nobody forced it upon you. Whatever expectations you had, were YOURS, nobody gave you any false information. So please, tell us all again how your choices/decisions aren’t your fault.
Also, because I know most of you have a barely passable command of your native tongue and for some of you it just isn’t your native tongue, allow to me elaborate on the definitions of important words in my list.
GAMBLE
- to play at any game of chance for money or other stakes
- to stake or risk money, or anything of value, on the outcome of something involving chance
OPTIONAL
- left to one’s choice; not required or mandatory
- leaving something to choice
RARE
- coming or occurring far apart in time; unusual; uncommon
- thinly distributed over an area; few and widely separated
- unusually great; unusually excellent; admirable; fine
oh wow, you still got a Halloween skin (shoulders) and gasp only opened 12 chests? If I were you I wouldn’t be complaining because a skin is a skin consider yourself lucky to even get one because people opened way more than you did man, just saying, also I got a charged lodestone (worth 1.60g+) on my 2nd chest i opened (out of the 4) so it was pretty nice, regardless that I didn’t get a skin.
@Tine Sionnach: he is indeed pretty lucky

so did you not get gems or did you spent all gems on chests?
A guildie of mine got two Scythe Staff skins and a Ghastly Shield from 6 chests. I opened ~40 in the end and I only got a pair of Avian Shoulders and the hideous gun skin. Oh well.
You’re blaming ArenaNet for your own inability to resist gambling.
@Cyric
Actually, let me break it down for you.
>To GAMBLE ON
If we’d known we were gambling, no one would have played the gambling game.
>They provide nothing but vanity, making them OPTIONAL
Considering Guild Wars 2’s endgame is quite literally vanity, I’m not sure how that’s a point in your favor. Playing any game to win it is OPTIONAL.
>Spent real money on a system that can be paid with actual game currency
Unfortunately, when people buy a lot of gems, the exchange rate goes up, and gold becomes worth less. Add to that the transfer tax, and it’s actually far more reasonable to pay 20$ for 1600 gems (maybe 20 gold?) than it is to give up 40 gold for the same amount.
>Only had the definition of RARE to go by
Part of the problem is that no one used the word “Rare” anywhere. Nowhere was the word “rare” used. As a result, most people went into this expecting it to be a reasonable drop rate for a fun holiday, not a pseudolegendary rarity designed to broker a stronger in game economy.
>AN fixes it by giving us another shot are RARE
Unfortunately, once more the word Rare was omitted. It didn’t matter at that point, the money was spent, but I’m baffled as to how getting more useless junk was meant to make anyone feel better about being mislead in the first place.
The honest truth is that you’re fanboying so hard to protect AN, when AN is admitting left and right they’re goofing up. They’re big boys. They don’t need your obviously considerable intellect to protect them.
When people spend money, they expect a fair chance at something equal in value to their time spent. It’s life – it’ll forever remain this way. It’s what angers people the most.
Lesson learned – never buy anything that’s not guaranteed or does not explicitly state your chances.

If you wanted to buy the chain sword skin, last I checked it was about 6 gold.
When did you see one for 6 gold? On the first day of the event perhaps? You might want to change your calculations a bit, they sell for at least 30 gold at the moment.
This was last night, which was the night after all the people with tons of gold went and played the chest game for what it was worth and coincidentally drove the gem price to 1g/100 gems. I’m sorry you missed it.
Is it just me or does it seem like Nexon is slipping its grubby fingers into is game? I quit playing their games because the only way you could ever get good items was to spend 500$+ on a gachapon ( random item generator ). Trust me people did just to get one item. I love gw2, and I know Nexon owns a good portion of shares of anet, I just hope they don’t get any say but they probably do.
Over 100 BLC chests opened, no skins.
49 Mad King Chests opened, no skins.
I give up, you’ve broken me.
I’m not sure why their being common would be a bad thing. The point of a holiday isn’t to bang on about it year round. It’s to have fun for a few weeks, let it piddle out because everyone had it, and move on. That’s what this should have been. Some random trinkity fun skins that if you really liked, you could wear year round, but otherwise most people wouldn’t bother because we all had it.
The problem is that we’re TRYING to make every single thing rare in the same way we do legendary. “Gotta work forty hours for everything” is silly philosophy. I just wanted to grab a chainsword for a couple weeks and buzz saw around with all the other maniacs. Now I have a third job.
So glad I didn’t buy into this massive rip off/scam. Sorry for those that did :/ Pretty lame.
Fortunately gold is easy to come by. Try farming the 15 orichalcum nodes you get per day just on the three endgame maps to see how easy it is to rack up gold.
If this event does not show you that Nexon got more than a “little” say on what Anet can or cannot do , then i dont know what could.
