Human female + greatsword
It’s kind of annoying hearings the little squeaky grunts after every auto swing.
Haha, spot on description there. My human female uses a greatsword sometimes, and it does get irritating after awhile. xD
Personally though, I’d like them to just add the option for us to disable character voices (outside of cut scenes, that is) in general. Those squeaky little grunts may be annoying, but no moreso to me than such literary gems as “Welcome to the big time, population: Me.” and “Here come the flames!”.
Yes, yes, yes, this squeaking is extremely annoying. I’d like to see it go.
I also hope Anet will introduce “modest/kind woman” voice over one day. I really dislike playing this ignorant Welcome To Fine Wine: Population Getting Better type.

It bugs me too that humans are so full of themselves, not endearing at all. But I have come to think of the human voices as the voices of narrators though rather than my characters’ voices, and suddenly it is so much better!
Unfortunately, that doesn’t really work as well with effects like squeaking and grunting, lol. I’m really noticing it on my new human female scholar, she is so squeaky!
Wait those squeeks are intended??? I thought it was a bug and we were hearing female asura grunts when using a greatsword. I can’t think that our human girls are really intended to make those sounds when using a greatsword. It also doesn’t sound like their voice when using any other kind of weapon, and even less in one-liners and story dialogs.
I hope not, the squeaks and grunts are fantastic, and were in GW1 too. They are the sole reason i made a human over a Norn. Very much in line with the sounds people make when they are actually fighting for their lives, and stop diving akittenabout what others might think of them.
I have trouble believing it is intended.
Squeaky girly sounds while swinging a sword is one thing. But the sounds they make now sound like they are freaking chippettes. I seriously think the pitch was accidentally set too high, or the sound was sped up for some reason.
Haha, oh man, it finally hit me how annoying my human characters little squeaks were a couple days ago. I’ve done weight lifting with other women before, and those are NOT the sounds we make when we exert power.
Ah well, it bothers me until the novelty of my little human wielding a greatsword hits again.
It actually quite grown on me.
I’m amazed you emaciated pixie human women can even lift a greatsword, let alone swing it.

Yeah, cuz 6 pounds is really heavy.
I was kind of exaggerating a bit there, but sure they’d be able to pick up a six pound sword, but picking up a sword and actually using it are two different things. Given the body types available for human women range from skeletal to skinny, not one of them would be able to reliably swing a greatsword. Especially some of the larger ones you see in the game that look difficult to use when the blade is so large and impractical, it would be completely unwieldly and they’d get tired too quickly. I mean a zweihander is 4’7" in length, imagine a 5’0" tall woman using one of these, she’d drag the floor with it and possibly hurt herself.

I’m a mesmer. I don’t really need to lift the sword so much as magically use it.
I’m not sure I’m sold on my squeaking, though. I thought it was part of the spell sound effect until I ran across some warrior ladies doing it as well.

This is why I run around with the Ebon Vanguard Greatsword , which is probably the smallest/thinest of the Greatswords in the game.
I think the squeaks are fine, but some of the comments sound more like norn than human. Just sayin’

My human female warr is only lv19 atm so haven’t had a chance to notice this, i have another reason for not using greatsword tho…
Auto attack animations are awful, especially the last one.
Males whirl the sword around and thrust it forward, and sound/animation behind it feel powerful and fast.
Females throw it upward for some reason but the animation and sound feel weak, slow and unnatural, this in combination makes “Brutal Strike” looks like “Ups I fumbled my broom over my head Strike”
So I’m sticking to dual Axes atm, in hopes they will change/fix greatsword auto attack animations for females
I really don’t mind the animation that much, dislike it, but I can live with it…….but…….that horrid voice when attacking…….just….why? It is honestly the only reason I absolutely refuse to make a female human guardian.
I thought so too!
At first, I kinda avoided using a Greatsword because I really disliked the squeaks (only one actually), because it really sounded weird.
Now, after some long hours, I’m used to it, but I still think they’re unintended…
Hopefully they’ll notice this and fix (if it’s broken) or change the sound (since it’s freaky annoying) someday?
Also, having an option for voices would be awesome, but that’d probably increase the client size quite a bit… imagine how many recorded dialogs there are already for each race/gender, and they’d just have to double or triple it depending on the voices…
But, still, it’d be a welcome option!
Voicing my support for the removal. I don’t think they fit the game, at all.
“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”
As long as I’m not the only one who hates the high pitched squeaks.
I kind of wonder if Anet would be ok with a mod removing that sound or not.

Short answer or the long answer?
Because they’re both “LOLNOPE”.
I was gonna do greatsword on my human female warrior also, until I heard this after every single swing and it is ridiculous. It sounds nothing like what a warrior should. So I switched to Hammer instead, and the grunts from swinging Hammer 1 were freaking perfect. And then I swung Hammer 2-5, and she started squealing again just like greatsword. What. The. Heck. This is some of the most ridiculous sounds I’ve ever heard put into a game for a warrior using 2h weapons. I sound like I’m a yiffing.
Kinda creeps me out.
Hahahaha i definitely wish they would change it… Logically if we’re really all elite well trained masters of our craft I don’t think we would be squeaking like someone who can’t lift a sword xD you’d be well conditioned to lift it effortlessly as an extension of the body… Some sound of exertion is alright but not this lolol and no matter how big a sword is proportionally to a small human female, it is in fantasy land where there’s magic and there’s warriors with massive weapons. And if you really trained and trained it might be possible to wield one. But I too use the ebon vanguard weapons xD
The sounds at this point on my low level warrior I mentioned, are so horrible that I can’t stand them and I’m just going to end up doing a dual swords/rifle condition build instead. Kinda disappointing I can’t play the way I had intended without rerolling my warrior once again, but I’ve remade the warrior like 3-4 times already and don’t feel like doing it again at this point.
i acctually like the squeaky noise i think its cute
(comming from a human guardian whos primary weapon is the greatsword so i hear it aaaaaaaaaaall the time)
I like the squeak on my Guardian; it works well with “Retreat!”.
Did they ninja patch the voice today? I just tested out GS on a female human and I am no longer hearing the squeek.
Edit: Nevermind, tested it again, it is back x_x I have no idea what caused it not to go off.

LOL. I’m gonna have to follow some human female warriors around now to hear this, it seems hilarious. At least, assuming it’s the same for someone else nearby as it is the user… never thought of that before.
EDIT: so it is pretty squeaky, but not as funny as I hoped. I’ve actually known people who would probably sound like that if they swung a sword.

The should just have an option to disable character voice for fighting and skills. It does get annoying after a while.
Annoyed of my character sayings….
“For Great Justice!”
“Shake it off!”
“Urge to kill rising!”
“Must unleash”
“Adrenaline building!”
I have trouble believing it is intended.

Oh so that’s the strange sound I sometimes hear… a female human swinging a greatsword. Wow, that sounds so bad.
Very much in line with the sounds people make when they are actually fighting for their lives, and stop diving a kitten about what others might think of them.
I’m sorry, but I have to reply to this:
- clearly you do not know what someone sounds like when fighting for their lives…
It’s not shrieking and pulling hairs.
It’s using more strength than you are used to because you are not worried about pain, and most sounds you produce will come straight from the gut and sound more beast than man (or woman). - a girl trying to honestly swing something big like a log, baseball bat (assuming a small girl) – or, in GW2’s case, a huge Greatsword – does not make a remotely similar sound
I’ll make it easy for you – even though it’s not the same as someone fighting for their life, just try watching a female martial art matches like kickboxing, jiujitsu, or even something as simple as tennis.

Agreed, it’s just as bad-sounding as female tennis players:
