80 warr [Blaze Steelsoul], 80 ele [Blaze Nightstrike], 80 mesmer [Grim Shatterwhirl]
80 guard [Dusk Grimlight], 80 engi [Flintgear]
i havent done null; but id much prefer it if the warnings appears around the same area as new build notifications; i have a small~ish monitor with UI set to smallest so chat and stuff obstructs as little of the screen as possible; which makes it annoying to read chat midfight
A joke right? The MF dungeon fight was miles better..
I feel such dissapointment that I can´t even tell you. Anet and their marketing department really need to stop the hype…
Something like rox and brahm lairs were good, this is really bad. I appreciate that this is new content, but it leaves you with sadness. I would prefer to wait more and have more content an better on.
And what happens with the story? We knew that they were not good story tellers, but cmon, this time was terrible. If I only played the game, I wouldn´t have any idea who is that golem, why canach is a fugitive… I still don´t know why we fight against the golem (and yes i know that he belongs to blingg and all that stuff).
And the location departments… I don´t know about other languages, but in the spanish version they think that kasmeer is a boy, or the new cat minipet comes with a unique bow (taking bow as the weapon one…). The translation of the dialogues looks done with google translator. It feels like you don´t know your own characters or game or lore…
I just feel such disconection, It is so poorly done that I can´t exprese it properly.
My feedback: It seems like you didn’t have enough time to do a nice job for the May 28th update. I can understand bugs, but I can’t understand disconection from the lore, locations problems or really dissapointed content. Please, if you need it, take more time. It seems that you have the ideas but they have been so poorly implemented… The lore of GW is so good…and you are killing it, you are disconecting me from the lore. Not beacuse you are not telling me the story that i want, but because it feels that you want to tell me an story and I can´t understand it because has been so badly told. It leaves me a sad expresion on my face and a big WHAT??!! on my mind.
And please, you can´t “sell” to us that this was a dungeon. Stop the hype. I was a defender of this way of telling stories, but this update was a mess. I have read that you have learned some stuff from the past that you were going to put a dungeon… that makes me expect some things and… you know already what I feel. Worst update so far.
Some lame dungeon to appease the casual crowd with easy content.
I get that some people don’t have/won’t put the time into a game, but I’m just so tired of these crappy, easy mode “MMO’s”. Does anyone make a truly epic, work you’re kitten off for real rewards, game any more? or has WoW ruined the genre for all time?
You say that now but during the first months of the game the forums were filled with complaints about how hard and unachievable the dungeons were. (I’ve had the chance to complete every single dungeon with green gear and the lowest lvl possible on my first try, but i guess i had a good group)
While Fractals were a good step in the way of making dungeons that offered a certain amount of challenge, I agree with you that GW2 is in big need of truly hard content with some epic skins (no RNG plz) that only a select few will be able to get because they were able to clear it. Sadly, Canach and NULL felt like a step backwards.
Just because a designers is not telling you what to do does not necessarily mean you are going to be lost
Except the yellow text in your chat box that tells you his shield is up and that you should try to make him walk on a mine.
When his shield up, I directly understand what to do. The one which makes this encounter boring: this encounter is another hack and slash. More DPS is better. Shield break in the first time he touch the mine, which mean you only need 1 mine-sweeper + 1 any mine and only when his shield up. (This also ruin my expectation, my expectation, to break his shield, need several mine and only specific mine).
Once you know this, encounter is easy. Spank NULL in non mined area while not far away there is a mine which can be activated, once NULL shield is up, pull NULL to this area, back to safe area, spank him again, repeat until he dies. (looks like Anet also really want to hey….. you need more DPS by using electro debuff (15/20 % of his HP) rather than using strategy or cooperation).
Cannach encounter is better than NULL.
I guess there should be one topic about this, so I’ll delete mine and post my oppinion here:
I have really liked all the updates up until this point the Southsun Cove update was great imo, but this one is just…
Single player story mode:
Alright, I’m 80, full exotic (ascended) but still. I could literally just stand in one place, eat a regen nourishment, and Canach can’t take me out. Mind you, I have a dps build.
I know that this is supposed to be the part where you learn the mechanics, but for Christ’s sake, make it at least remotely challanging! I really tought the whole thing was bugged, or I was ‘fighting’ some image of Canach or some lackey. But no, that was the real deal.
Rating: 2/10
Multiplayer exp mode:
Somewhat better, as it gets challanging the first time you do it (becouse you really have no ida what is happening). But after that, nothing, nada or should I say… NULL. Same mechanic as with Canach, only more things to dodge. The electric thingy at the end was a nice touch however (maybe should have went with that the whole fight?). This Boss would have great being a vice-boss in some dungeon.
Rating: 5/10
And my biggest issue: I wasn’t expecting a whole new dungeon like in F&F (wich was great). But a corridor and a room? Really? My advice – Do not build up a hype if you are only going to come out with so little content! If this update would have been advertised like a WvW update, also including 2 boss instances it would have been fine. My expectations were high, the delivery was low. Still looking forward for the Karka Queen.
Dear Anet, I know you are trying to please everyone, but do take in consideration, that you can’t. People on the forums whine all the time, don’t listen to all of them, you don’t have to. Don’t listen to my whining here either, if you think this is the way to go – but doing these solo instances and then adding another supereasy-a-five-year-old-could-do instance is just a joke.
You can’t balance out a single player instance right, becouse everyone has differnt skill levels (in game and outside of it too) so the only option is to do these instances, that even the worst player can handle with ease. No challange = no satisfaction.
Ps.: Don’t want to turn this topic into a solo player vs multiplayer instance topic.
Edited for clarification.
Took me 30 minutes (and many deaths). I’m lousy, but I still agree that it was a very slack / lazy instance.

You should look into Wizardry Online. It’s free and might be your sort of thing – stay on GW2 as well though. It’s nice to play something “mellow” alternating with something “omg I want to kill myself and the universe”ish.
I feel this dungeon does not even ready to be released
1. No cut-scene or scripted dialog at beginning of dungeon. (Kiel just standing there for what ?)
2. Short dungeon does not make NULL encounter better. (They can make MF dungeon with a lot of NPC AI and mechanic (+ the dungeon is long enough), but they cannot make 1 mechanic to be a decent one).
Story:
+ Straightforward encounter, not too hard. Unique mechanic (unless you use bug).
- Lag can ruin everything (after patch is lag fest), sometimes mine bugged.
Score: 7/10
Explorable:
+ yay I can hit the boss
- Another spank, hack, slash encounter, unique mechanic from story mode does not appear in explorable (you need only 1 mine to destroy boss shield… meh), nothing which force you to dodge, if boss pulled you, nothing happen except you pulled into land mine, bad mechanic before the boss die (this is why more DPS is better).
Score: 2/10.
ps: score: higher is better.
pps: My point of view for story is: to learn the mechanic before explorable one.
No, this is one of the worst boss design ever. The amount of knock downs he has is stupid. Reasonable amount of cc is good, as it give value to having stun breakers, but this boss is just too much. Taking control of the character from players is BAD, I wonder how ArenaNet never learn after so long.
Edit:
First run was done using a beserker engineer. Tried again with my guardian, end up in a party with 4 guardians. Difference is day and night, face tanked him with just the occasion need to move him to a mine. Stability make a huge difference.

Typical boring instance pve fight. Almost duo’d it to death on our first try only to find that we didn’t have enough dps to win. I don’t really see how there’s any skill or genuine challenge to a fight where the only thing that decides whether you win or lose is dps, even when you play flawlessly.
I like the new dungeon. It’s clearly a dungeon meant to lampoon all the speed-runner who run from chest boss to chest boss. So they just short-cut the entire thing and just had a boss. Cool enough.
Thanks for the tip, I’ll check it out.
At least maybe we wont have people complaining thakittens only temporary.
Why do they always have to design fights with invulnerable bosses? That’s so freaking lame, I want to hit the boss, not wait for a window were I may can or defeat him with a stupid environmental weapon. Besides that the fight was bugged big time for me, Canach would lay on the ground randomly without a mine touching him and no damage done to him and then charge from this position. Besides that, he walked through green mines without them exploding, mines detonated even though I hit them with the correct skill and of course green mines doing damage to him and me when he walked through.
I still managed to beat him, but it was annoying as heck. I never ever want to see such a gimmicky fight ever again. Let me just kill him with my own kitten skills! The Doppelganger from Prophecies is a wonderful example on how this is done right.
You go in, you realize he uses your skills, you actually think about it a while and come up with a build that might work and if it doesn’t you try again (or look something up if you are lazy). But this one is an annoying no brainer. The game tells you exactly what to do, instead of letting you figure it out yourself, the hard part is not beating Canach, who is incredibly simple if you think about it, but beating the bugs.
I rate this fight 1/10. One point for the effort, but the execution was horrible and there is little to no strategy involved. Oh and while I’m at it, we need a function to save our builds, this would open up the possibility of making such encounters build dependent! Of course I don’t want to re-trait ever time for one fight if I have to note down and invest my points all the time. But with a function to save builds this problem would be gone, making way for actually strategic fights and not this mindless crap.
This is more-so like the Halloween event where the dungeon is just a boss fight. The intro/closure is weak, unfortunately. It was also too easy personally, but if it was harder people would QQ to no end because too many people don’t want to put effort towards something difficult in GW2. There’s nothing wrong with the overall idea though.
I created a topic during F&F to discuss the merits/flaws of ending primarily solo content with a 5 man dungeon. It turned out to be a pretty contentious topic.
Whether this new ending structure to Southsun was a response to that or planned all along I think it is a great format.
Single player instance that tops off the story for those who cannot fathom entering a 5 man dungeon and an explorable mode on the side for those who do. Thats perfect imo.
Thanks Anet. Jus’ throwin’ it out there that I love that direction!
well I disagree, I play this MMO to do these things in groups, not solo my way through all the content.
I like to be social. I do not like this direction at all. I don’t want all dungeons from now on to be solo dungeons.
Eh? The point was this content caters to both needs – group and solo.
Just did both story and explorable.
Story was really boring. Mindnumbingly boring even. Luckily it only lasted 10 minutes or so.
Explorable was OK. Nothing great, but it was OK for another 10 minute fight. Nothing memorable or something I’d like to do again, though.
Compared to the awesome Molten Weapons Facility this was a huge disappointment.
Yes indeed it feels dumb. I expected something more epic, maybe even a small video at the end or a cutscene with a discussion…
…u just enter there…dodge a few bombs, get to the boss that has no narative whatsoever (there’s no difference between him and a moa literally, no wonder i never knew who Canach even is and i played all events since the begining. He has nothing special that makes me want to even consider remembering him let alone have an impact and consider him a foe from the past that comes back and becomes a nemesis) …shoot 4-5 mines and done. Ok i get it maybe it’s just story mode, but then i try out exp mode with party……the exact same thing..just 1 model-skin changed.
I am sorry but all this hype was for less then nothing. If these are the content adds of the future living story, i am very disappointing. And if this was just another experiment for them to see how we react…i am tired to be experimented on.
All this wait for something u finish in 10 minutes if u take breaks during it. Awesome. This dungeon/living story and potential continuation, for me personally, with all indulgence, was the biggest fail so far. What happened to u? u started with mad king which was epic…and now u were reduced to a 10 min dungeon? Seriously i entice u to look at yourselves and what u did in the past a bit and how abruptly u have declined in quality when it comes to story and so on it’s really, not sad, but disturbing.
Look, if u want us to pay u (monthly instead of cashshop) to actually receive good quality or atleast the same quality as before, not declining, just tell us and we make this game a monthly fee.
I just hope that karka queen fiasco u will pull off on the 5th will blow my mind away otherwise the points above stand for present and your future so called “5 min contents & wait for 1month for another 5 min”. I don’t want to see another copy-paste karka with 1 extra healthbar compared to the others. I want to see something that will blow my mind considering it’s the end of this whole fiasco. U promised epic boss fights in this game, i want to see what u come up with (other then the ones that have been here since the release of the game).
Here’s what i consider epic: That mountain’o’poo where we killed the karka guardian or whatever he was. Make it expload releasing a hugeass boss that takes a whole server to kill and at the end when it dies, something dramatically changes on the map or the whole map thus making the karka extinct or retreat in the hole they came from. Maybe the fight be on different layers…ground, midair. Some players using specially created cannons and trebs like the ones left behind after the big fight…and so on. Make things on a huge scale and make it count. Go even further….make story characters join the fight, like the main characters of the story OR the 2 other characters from the living world we have helped.

if they don’t have the resources to do it right, they should just stick to one path and make that the best they can, it does kinda feel like part of their “living story” series was done with a much smaller crew and prehaps they were spreading themselves out too much for this release… though this is speculation so I could be wrong…
hey folks,
our patch notes jumped the gun a bit. Canach instance is NOT the ending of the living story. That will come next week. Stay tuned!
YESSSSS, I expected that. Hoping for Canach’s return on our side =3
hey folks,

Okay thanks for confirming that Robert! I’ll stop looking for a instance that isn’t there yet :P
Give your web guys a kick up the kitten tho, shouldn’t really take this long to update the patch notes on the main site.
YOu have to realize that Mark (who usually posts the update notes) is gathering this information from various teams. Imagine pulling bits of information from a whole lot of people in a short perioud of time. There is going to be mistakes.
Where is the 3rd instance please?
I thought i’d give this fight a try, but the entire passage to get there was filled with Karka. One could not even run through them because of the hordes of Hatchlings that cripple you. Of course i died and every single waypoint on Southsun was contested, so i just left this boring island. And that was my experience with the Canach fight. Great work, ANet.
Yea that too lol. This proves it’s a 1 time useless dungeon. If it were usefull zones there would never be contested or the path to the dungeon would never have mobs there because ppl would kill them.
Once ppl finished that 5 min dungeon they never came back. I don’t blame them, why would anyone come back.
To be fair, the in-game wording and UI presentation is sort of tricky (and maybe misleading to those expecting this to be a “dungeon” of some sorts), but suggests that it’s not really a real dungeon if we’re going by in-game presentation of the content despite the vernacular and wording used on the forums.
This instanced area uses a Story Mode Instance pop-up instead of the typical dungeon pop-up before entry. This suggests this would play out more like a personal story instance than any normal dungeon.
Also, the name of the area is Canach’s Lair. Like most lairs, it’s usually just a small dwelling place like a room or a den; and Canach’s Lair just simply defines that, which is a simple hiding place for Canach. Definition-wise, I’d say a “dungeon” is much bigger than a “lair”.
As a personal story encounter, Canach seems to work quite well, but as a dungeon encounter, I think it’s just too gimmicky. I don’t mind using environmental weapons to counter certain kinds of defenses, but I found myself using the mine detector for the entirety of the fight, which I think is pretty bad. Canach himself hits like a wimp so the majority of the fight is mostly avoiding his traps (which do some very extreme damage) and using his traps against him.
Personally, I would have liked to see a scaling dungeon— if you enter solo, then you fight and easy-mode version of Canach, but enter with a group, then you might end up fighting both Canach and NULL at the same time. Perhaps both could fuse into a special kind of epic Salad Golem Boss hell-bent into making the creatures of Southsun his own personal army in an attempt to take over Lion’s Arch.

What was good about this direction?…
We got two 5 minute instances.
The first one could be solod by anyone with a minimal intelligence with no effort at all. The words ‘Boring’, ‘Easy’ and ‘Tedious’ cannot describe what I feel about it. Overall it was just a rather lackluster and disappointing experience (after MF or the solo instances in F&F).
The second one required a bit of effort, not much, but a bit better.
The thing is, if this stuff was any longer, the people would still whine over not being able to participate in a group event, becouse they dislike groups. So Anet ?had to? design these events that… … … are not fun (had to restrain myself there).
I know it’s been said a bazillion times before but: This game is GUILD wars 2. Get a Guild, get freinds. Play the SOCIAL rpg (MMOrpg I might add) as the way it was meant to be played. With a team/guild/friends. And please don’t let ‘instances’ like these happen in the future.
It’s great that the 2% of whiners got what they wanted but the other 98% of the comminity is disappointed. In my oppinion.
(the precentages are purely made up, but I feel they are close to reailty)
(edited by Bubi.7942)
I find guilds in guildwars2 to be kinda useless considering u can do everything solo. Only thing that requires guilds are guild missions that are by their technical implementation frustrating. If i remember correctly u need a higherup in the guild to start them. What if i login when no higherup is logged? What if they do the event and they don’t want to do it again because they already got the reward…and so on and so forth. Technically speaking guild missions are not worth the stress.
So again what are guilds worth? Chat and interaction? some of the best and funniest chat interactions i had in mapchat.
Help with dungeons and story? gw2lfg.com or mapchat (max 5 min and u have a group compared to guildies who most of the time feel bored and don’t join, but that depends on the guild i guess..even tho most are the same)
Help with items and crafting? Crafting is mostly useless if u get good items on u. U get good items by doing solo stuff anyway. Once u have those good items u are done with any help needed.
sPvP ? sure that might be one, if i actually gave a kitten about it.
WvW? It’s just zerg…if u know who is a good commander and who is not u just run or don’t run with him. No need for a guild + most servers have huge TS channels where u can join and take part at the big zerg conversations bla bla
Guild items/armors/rewards? All are hideous.
I might say it’s the same case in all mmo’s, but in no mmo till this one have i felt that guilds are so useless. Maybe because u would actually need a guild to progress in that game compared to GW2 where u can progress solo hardly encountering issues.
Didn’t read everything, but Null is pretty much a standard pve boss. Get up some reflection, dps. Interrupt your dps once for a short time to use a certain mechanic (lure him into a mine in this case). Continue dps, win.
The only challenge here is to use a good rotation for maximizing dps to be as fast as possible.
Only difference is the halloween dungeon was actually epic-made, the boss in itself was awesome designed, the fight was cool with the multi-layer and it didn’t end in 5 min and without any effort of getting there. Not to mention the halloween dungeon actually had multiple dungeons in it..the puzzle world, the boss world, the clock tower..and so on.
This dungeon is the pinnacle of devolution when it comes down to memorable content.
Even if ppl say “well it’s not a dungeon it’s just some kind of emo-room”, they could atleast make it more interesting as getting to the boss ..not just run inbetween some mines and kill him by making him run into his own mines. Not even a dialogue..a quote..a text anything. When u enter explorer mode with a party u see the exact same thing only this time is NULL…that just magically poped there without any background. Where was he in story mode? couldn’t they make him appear in story mode as lieing down inactive on the ground or something? Makes no sense.
(edited by Rebound.3409)
I fought him in a PUG earlier, and I wouldn’t agree. While it’s not the worst fight I’ve seen, it’s not great either, and it’s far (like, really far) from being the best boss in the game. I’d give the fight a 5/10.
When u enter explorer mode with a party u see the exact same thing only this time is NULL…that just magically poped there without any background.
I had to drag my guildies in !!!3 times!!! for the exp mode, as they refused to believe that this is the beginning of exp mode becouse it looked exactly the same as the story and so they tought it was.
Btw: agreed with everything you said above.
A passage, a room and another room.
Yay.
Excuse me?
There’s a passage, a room and a hall. Get your facts correct.
At least maybe we wont have people complaining thakittens only temporary.
Indeed, now i am hoping with all my heart it’s temporary.
I’ve seen more challenging critters.
Sarcasm aside, yea as a boss he tends to be interesting but still easy to make on the long run. This depends on how ppl see “difficult”. Some ppl see difficult as high health, some as high dmg, others the mechanics and rules that boss imposes on u. For the last one, yes the boss is interesting, but the overall experience of the dungeon (none) completely negates any feeling u get from that boss.
Part of the difficulty of a boss is not only the boss itself, but also how u get to fight that boss (none in this case)….the dangers u face even getting to him, things that keep u on the edge of your sit just to face that boss.
The only danger i felt getting to this culminating boss fight of this dungeon (or as some call it a mini-emo-room), was boredom.

All GW2 bosses are a cake walk!
People who complain about free content and threaten to leave just make me laugh a little at how spoiled we’ve become. Let’s see, $15 a month just to play anything was the norm a few years ago, and still is for some of the games out there, at least in some form or other. So, at $15 a month and starting from September, the $60 buy-in price of GW2 made all content absolutely free sometime after December. All content, not just ala carte content. Seriously, complaining about free content comes off incredibly spoiled. Constructive criticism, yeah, that I understand, but to say that you’ve had enough free content and it’s time to leave … time for me to laugh. Hey, I’m throwing a party and I’m only going to charge you for the first two beers. After that, all beer you drink is free. I’m laughing at the first drunk who comes to me and says he’s disappointed I didn’t provide the beer he likes.
Back then i payed 15$ monthly but i also received after a few months (or even monthly) something so consistent it made me frantically play it.
Now i buy a 1 time game that makes u indirectly pay even more then 15$ a month, to get crappy content. (leave alone that some ppl use cashshop and some don,t we are talking about a concept that is undeniably bringing them a big chunk of money, close or even more then a normal sub game)
Just saying, 1 infinite pick = 10E/$ (5E/$ less then a monthly fee) and that’s just 1 item u might buy or not. The sales on infinite picks or whatever was huge. U payed 10$ last month, u payed 10$ this month and u will pay another 10$ next month when they release the infinite axe thing (this is just for 1 item).
If u didn’t buy anything from the gem store u are entitled to not be effected by the quality of their content, but don’t extend globally as it’s your own opinion, an opinion that neither the ppl who don’t use cashshop don’t share on the long run because everyone wants better content, not content that is worst then the previous.

If the content is lack luster (which a lot of players agree it is), I feel we not only have the right , but the responsibility to extend our thoughts about it. Also it’s not exactly free. Free would imply not paying for the game and players not purchasing from gem shop.
Let me make the analogy more accurate: "Hey, I’m throwing a party and I’m only going to charge you for the first two beers (which will be award winning micro brews, which will have an “accepted amount” of contaminants). After that, all beer you drink is free (but it will be my neighbor Jim’s 1st attempt at a homebrew, which may or may not get you sick). You may tip if you like, I actually encourage tipping as I’ll throw in some generic chips (fun size ofc). If you complain about Jim’s homebrew I’ll laugh at you b/c it cannot possibly be anything less than spectacular as Jim is a great guy (even though it might look and smell a bit off). Even though it turns out Jim’s homebrew made you sick come back next week and I’ll provide more beer (Jim rebrewed the leftover beer from this week……we are going green!). Remember to tip!"
I was able to complete solo instance (Canach) on the first attempt by pulling him to the wall away from all bombs and stacking condition damage on him. (took about 3 minutes.) The 5 man dungeon was completed once the team (first and only team) realized pulling Subdirector Null to the far right poison bomb and stacking on him there. He died without any major problems (5 min. approx takedown)
ps: the last de-buff from boss clarifies that heavy DPS is the only crucial thing in this encounter. (compare to path 2 AC boss, heavy DPS check, controller check, 1 – 2 ghostbuster check, 1 supporter check.).
The boss has been done with low DPS. It’s not as bad as you are exaggerating. Also, AC Path 2 boss is NOT a DPS check. Perhaps you need to refresh your memory on what a DPS check is.
Some hate it some love it.
I think the boss was designed to test out new boss mechanics that they wants to introduce. See how the players like it. Ignore the fact that it is a ridiculously short dungeon and that all you fight is the boss.
What do you think of the mechanics? Some like it some hate it. That means that the May have close to the right amount of puzzle elements to it. (I would not know I did not run it). Also did you look up how to run it before you ran it or did you just run it?

It’s great that the 2% of whiners got what they wanted but the other 98% of the comminity is disappointed. In my oppinion.
(the precentages are purely made up, but I feel they are close to reailty)
I have not had a chance to try the instances yet. I was commenting on the direction of the structure rather than the quality of the content itself.
There is no set ‘way’ of playing an MMO – as if there were some inscribed laws written into the physics of the universe. Everyone plays differently and presumably in a way they find fun.
I would say that 97.5% like having a mix of solo and group content where 2.5% are whiners that think the game should be tailored completely to their preferences and no ones else’s. (the precentages are purely made up, but I feel they are close to reality)

I was really, really disappointed with the Canach story mode instance.
I am a fan of Robert Hrouda’s work on the game I have seen so far and thus I was really excited to experience this ‘dungeon’ knowing he was working on the team designing it.
Please note, I do not blame Robert personally in any way. He was only part of the team that designed this. I was just hoping and expecting something a lot better and grander and was let down. It really is my own fault for expecting a little too much I guess.
The Canach ‘fight’ was extremely boring. No real fight, just gimicky mechanics used to defeat a buggy boss. There is no reason a level 1 character with no gear could not defeat him. You never have to even hit the guy.
Granted, you give us a decent reward for the waste of ten minutes. But I think I am going to stop expecting or believing anything of any substance will be produced any time soon. At least I won’t be disappointed that way.
I really want to be excited and hopeful about the meta event involving the queen karka. But now I am just fearful.
The worst things are the white knights defending this garbage.
There are posts stating that NULL and Canach are the best boss fights ever.
-.-
No, no more of this rubbish, the majority would say that this content is horrible.
Epically annoying. Especially for those of us that got in and worked our tails off trying to kill him – THEN are notified that there is a new build and everyone will be booted. Finish the instance out of sheer irritable frustration and only get an achievement, as in ZERO reward. Now we’re being told to do it AGAIN to get the reward.
I know you just had a prostate exam where I used barbwire gloves but you’re going to have to do it again. But this time I’ll give you a lollipop!
Full of Fail
Not challenging or fun at all.
If I had to use 1 word to describe it, it would by annoying.
seems like i’m the only one who enjoyed the boss fight :P made a nice change to hack n slash.
this is not the final event, i remember before the MF was released everyone hated F&F too.
same kitten, different story.

Finall event is that Kara bul……i mean event.
change the mines to green quicker
I created a topic during F&F to discuss the merits/flaws of ending primarily solo content with a 5 man dungeon. It turned out to be a pretty contentious topic.
Whether this new ending structure to Southsun was a response to that or planned all along I think it is a great format.
Single player instance that tops off the story for those who cannot fathom entering a 5 man dungeon and an explorable mode on the side for those who do. Thats perfect imo.
Thanks Anet. Jus’ throwin’ it out there that I love that direction!

Part of Guild Wars 2’s early promises were catering to all play styles. Do you remember heroes in Guild Wars 1? Almost all of the content was “solo-able”. I kind of feel you are pushing what you feel the game is meant to be on others who can find enjoyment in other ways.
As OP said, the inclusion of single player driving the story and 5 man for more of the “grind” aspect makes sense and is consistent with how Guild Wars was in the past. While I am not necessarily thrilled with the instances themselves, it’s a good model in that you can somewhat learn the 5 man fight in privacy and be moderately prepared for when you enter a group.
Somewhat in the same vein, I think that Guild Wars 2 hasn’t been successful in leading people to solving the key to victory for certain encounters/dungeons. Devs early on assured there would be context clues that would lead you to what you should do, yet many of the meta events (such as shadow behemoth and fire elemental) and the tutorial bosses are trial and error more than establishing clear context. Until people flesh out the encounters via wiki or blog it is mostly stumbling in the dark. That’s why I think this single player/5man model has potential.
