I do not understand why the boats arriving points were removed. It now just spawns you outside of the asura gate. It feels really weird and out of place.

Also the trip back is removed, which is plain silly, as people will simply use Heart of the Mists to go to Lion’s arch or World versus world from pretty much anywhere in the world if they really have to.
I actually quite liked being able to sail from and to point Pride and Lion as opposed to Pearl Islet.

I know it’s more of a detail, but really.

The story on the main page basically states the old fashioned boat trip of Lady Kashmeer and Lord Faren. It gives a less Asura centric environment. It gives more options to get on Southsun Cove.

I understand that perhaps over sea is not the most safe route, but hell even from Canach’s story it is noted that there will be a boat going to deliver all the Contracts of the settlers.

Why are NPCs privileged to use these boat-trips and players are not. :P

Is there perhaps a way to let players arrive at a dock?

I agree. I would like it when the old boat-trips would be back ingame. So that we have three points to arrive at Southsun.

I agree, it was a nice realistic touch. I mean, if we are not to use the boats, what is the point of them still being there? Other maps have 3~6 entrances, so I don’t see why they’d disable the boats. Well, its nothing more than an aesthetic really, but that’s 9/10ths of salesmanship.

Maybe so that The Consortium could make sure that Canach or the Settlers wouldn’t use the boats to get out of the Island. I mean, the only way out is an Asura Gate, and there are plenty of members of The Consortium around it.

Of course, I don’t expect any explanation in game, especially one that is connected to the story.

I wish this game had actual boat trips. None of the “click on the captain and you’re there” stuff, actual boat rides with Dynamic Events occurring (sea creature attacks, pirate attacks, etc).

That would be too much of a dynamic expansion.

I miss the boats. I hope they will return after the story is told.

Makes sense the boats are gone. The Consortium have “trapped” the refugees there to work and with the Asura gate being the only way on or off the island, they have full control who has access to it (obviously not including us players). This way the refugees can’t leave without Consortium permission, which they’ll never get.. at least so far anyway.

I can understand it – it was a little unrealistic previously that boats seemed to always be going back and forth to what was really a backwater whenever the players wanted to. The asura gate is always open (if, as the PCs seem to, you have free access to the network… possibly sponsored by your racial leaders and/or the Pact) but it makes sense that most of the time there isn’t going to be a boat ready to leave at the player’s convenience.

I do miss being able to choose which point to arrive at, especially since it would be convenient to land right next to the site of the Kiel’s Outpost riot, but I can understand it from a story perspective.

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.

Not really, a luxury cruise is much more preferred to walking through a portal, its part of the whole island experience. Furthermore In a short story ArenaNet depicted just that, both settler/refugees and vacationing nobles walking down the ships gang plank to enter the island. And even if the influx of refugees drops (either because all the refugees have found a place to settle down, or got wise to the dangers of the island) there would still be ignorant resort guest cheated by the consortium propaganda. (Funny… I’m starting to relate the consortium to the GW2 advertising staff…) If you have tried to board the ships via lionsarch, it still allows you to do so. It just doesn’t let you get off at the ships in SSC… which isn’t very realistic by any means. Nor for that matter does it allow you to return via ship. And as for the settlers boarding the ship to escape, they could just as easily bomb rush the portal…. which takes a lot less knowledge skill and manpower.

I don’t, boat rides were the worst part of the games that had them…

Except games in which sailing and fighting on boats was a major factor if not the focus of the game. But it would be too much of an overhaul to do so with GW2

Yeah can’t argue with that…well not all games like that, I remember a notorious stinker that was released a few years back, can’t think of the name though at the moment.
