GW2 dedicated page similar to WoW Armory
While I like the idea, this would be used to neglect “bad geared” people from explorables. It will have a generally bad impact on PvE and probably PvP too!
I’m pretty sure ANet already thought of this but it’s not as easy to implement as some would like to assume. I mean WoW’s Armory was in beta for a number of years before it was actually finished.
BUMP for more opinions.
I would love for this to happen. LOVE.
I really hope this happens.
No, I don’t need people telling me I can’t go to their dungeon because they don’t like my gear.
Just as I don’t want an inspect feature that I cannot block, I wouldn’t want this except as an “opt-in” (or opt-out by default) feature.
I’m not sure how I feel about this. Though it is kind of interesting to see your character on a profile sheet, I could also see it as a way to poke at a freshly dinged 80 and call that person a “baddie” for having sub-par gear and/or a strange Trait spec. In a way, this is also the same reason why you don’t have an /inspect command like in some MMOs. The way I see it is that it makes max-level content less welcoming if someone has the capability of “over-criticizing” your choice of gear and traits, which is the opposite of what ArenaNet is trying to achieve with GW2— as in, max-level content should be accessible to as many people as possible.
With that said, if something like this were to be implemented, it should include options to hide a portion or even all of your character’s profile, or even restrict it to friends and/or guild members.
I am Fleeting Flash, in-game dungeon cosplayer of Reddit Refugees [RR] .
I’d rather not see something like this implemented. It encourages elitism and not the good kind of elitism but the misguided notion that ‘better gear’ makes a better player…which couldn’t be further from the truth in a game such as this.
Hello, guys. Will you agree with me if i’ll say that having something like WoW Armory would be really cool? You could check scads of statistics regarding characters, guilds, sPvP, WvW, etc. You could also show your character to your friends and vice versa and boast about your achievements.
Greetings,
GOJU
I want it. Actually, I’ve been missing that feature ever since I started playing.
I think nothing from WoW will be implemented to Guild Wars 2, since this is a game that is trying to be something different -as much as it can-
Also, as said many times above, it would cause elitism against casual players. ANet is well aware of elitism, you can see that they are from many features of Guild Wars 2. So if I were you, I’d never expect a feature to be impletemented to GW2 from WoW because these are two different games.

That one sentence alone is a recipe for fail. Being different just for sake of being different (dismissing quality features just to be different) isn’t something one should take for guidance.
I sincerely hope ANet would rather make a COMPILATION of all good things ever implemented in a game and improve on them further, rather than try and fail in being pioneers/revolutionaries.

There is level scaling because ANet doesn’t want upper-level guys to come farm on lower-level areas and ruin casual players’ game experience.
User nicknames are not visible in WvWvW because ANet doesn’t want some smart nolifers to keep running after the same players that are known to be ‘noobs’.
Here are two quick examples for you, that show ANet’s vision on this topic. The feature you’ve been talking about would make things terrible for casuals.
By the way I’m not a casual. As a full exotic level 80, I’d like to see casuals in my dungeon party because to be honest, they are the ones who know how to enjoy a game. It is the time a game starts to suck when casuals are pushed out of it.

They’re not being different for the sake of being different. they’re being different because they don’t want certain attitudes in the playerbase. Yes, I do mean yours. No, I’m not trying to be hostile or snarky.
Gearscore and Recount should stay where they belong, in the old dinosaur that constantly remakes itself.
If I wanted to play WoW I would. I don’t. I’m still trying to decide if I want to play GW2. Start incorporating the features that half the people don’t want (e.g. Gearscore and Recount to name only 2) and they’ll help me with that decision immensely.

Yes, Yes, No, Yes, Yes/Maybe.
I think they are just working on the game right now.
But they want to be careful what they add into such a thing achievement be bad unless they are private then it be fine.
Being able to look at gear and your character be cool. You representing guild and sever fine.
Things like your sPvP bad idea. If it is also private that be OK.
It all depends on what can you see and what can the rest of the world see. But a place where you login and show your friends stuff that be fine. If it just shows your gear that be also fine gear most;y about look anyway.

Friend, I’ve said that name visibility in WvWvW should be optional. So if someone is a “noob” and doesn’t want his name seen, simply check a small box in the options meny that says “hide name in WvWvW”. Problem solved.
And me personally, noob or not, I don’t mind having my name visible. And I’d want to un-check that option.
No one is at loss, everybody wins.

Would you mind defining my “attitude”? Because I have no special attitude worth avoiding that concerns GW2. Would you also please quote me saying I wanted Recount or Gear Score features implemented in GW2?
If you can’t, please don’t put your own words in my mouth so that you can justify your point of view. I said good features from other games (so not only WoW exclusive), and there are plenty out there.
Please, stick to the topic AND to the things I DID say, don’t make stuff up.

I haven’t seen your post about optional visibility of nicknames in WvWvW, maybe I was just not reading haha. It would be a nice feature, you should start a suggestion topic.
However, this is not the point, point is the armory thing that is never coming to GW2. If a player wants to pick only the well-geared guys, sorry but this is not that kind of game. That type of thing is old as any other MMO than GW2, this is a new game with a lot of new, nice features.

Hold on for a second, you are confusing me. I’d agree with you if we had the classic gearing system. But since our gear will all be on the equal level, only the looks will differ. And I think it’d be pretty cool to be able to see who obtained what, and what style they went for with their character. That’s all.

Not always. Some guy might has a couple of rares, a couple exotics while the other guy has full exotics or I dont know, green ones.

Yeah I get what you’re saying but come on, let’s not be paranoid here. Where does it stop, seriously? So he will be able to see you when he meets up with you in the dungeon itself. If you don’t look epic enough, will he kick you from the group?
I think we’re over exaggerating here, honestly. Features such as armory and inspect are not only ok, but are essential in GW2 which utilizes a system where style and fashion of armor is all the progression we have.
Devs read forums and since I’m not like “NOOOOOOO!!”, I choose to stay quiet because I’m not a designer or developer for ANet, they know their strategy better than me right?
The thing I wanted to say was, only being my own opinion that ANet either wouldn’t implement it or implement it in the way that prevents casuals from getting their game experience ruined.
Hey of course man, I’m all for both sides being heard. And I did say I see where you’re coming from. The fact remains however that you WILL be seen once you people meet up for a dungeon run. So armory or no armory, if someone is set on being a kitten, there is nothing that can stop him. I’ve taken part in various dungeons and so far nobody minded how my gear looks or what level I am.
If you DO happen to run into a guy that wants to make a problem out of it, fine, there are 99 other invites for the same dungeon run going around.
Personally, I consider myself a casual as well since I recently got a daughter and I really can’t devote lots of my time to playing video games. It doesn’t stop me from wanting to experience the ANet’s “visual system” to a full extent.

Your attitude is that my gear/character is your business. It isn’t.
And while I have used the WoW addin “Gearscore” for verbal simplification, no you have not asked for it by name. However, you are requesting equivalent functionality. IMO if it wags at one end and barks at the other it’s a dog. I don’t really care what you choose to call it.
Sorry if I’m coming across as a bit aggressive. I’ve seen too many cases where devs listen to a very vocal minority and royally foul up a game, only (in worst cases) to have a huge chunk of the game’s population leave. So I’m a bit touchy on this subject (it being one of the cases above).
How on Earth did you come up with the conclusion that we are the minority? Awesome.
Here, I’m calling YOU a minority. Just like that. A very vocal minority, since you ARE coming off aggressively.
GW2 lacks tons of functionality and convenience features. If ANet doesn’t integrate those in GW2 it will always lag behind other games.
I pointed out a simple, and yet a realistic example. You will be seen when you meet up with a group. Do you propose that we all wear curtains over our heads so that no one can see if we have the fancy gear or not?
Do you actually think a feature like armory will serve for someone to not take you onto their dungeon group? If so, the same person will kick you from the party the second they see that you’re not wearing any rare armor pieces. Yes, GW2 has visual customization. VISUAL, you will be seen.
Unlike WoW, no one is gonna check your armor stats in the armory.
Yes, definitely. To be able to check out my friends gear and stuff, as well as my own characters’ would be awesome. Sure, sometimes its a vanity thing, but I would love to be able to post the url of my character to someone so I can say ‘here, have a look at my character.’
Inspect: YES! I’m really sad that I cannot see what my friend has or some random guy that passes by.
Armory: That’s a slippery slope. This opens the doors to extensive optimizers. Not to say optimizers are bad, but you have to think that if some one high up says X skill is the best here is proof or Y stat. A good deal of people will follow him just because he said it. Leaving a monotone cookie cutter, which is not what Guild Wars is about.
I’ve already posted this once elsewhere, but I will post it again. Make the Page. Display all my stats, etc. Make it optional to display my gear for inspection. That way, those who wish to be inspected can and the haters can remain in darkness.
Absolutely not. No armory, no inspect.
Absolutely not. No armory, no inspect.
Why are you so adamant? Why would you deprive others of something they wanted if you did not have to use it or be affected by it? Do you hate kittens?

If there’s no opt-out I AM affected by it. This isn’t WoW, we don’t need everything WoW has. This game isn’t about gear and gear scores. If you want to know what gear someone has, ask them.
I have -specifically- posted in this thread and several of the duplicates that it should be optional.
Another person thinking GW2 needs to be completely, utterly different from WoW. Wake up, GW2 ALREADY HAD TONS of stuff WoW has, like banks, and classes, and a persisitant world, and cities, and pvp, and quest rewards, need I go on.

does classes not come from games like EverQuest
Honestly, ANet SHOULD copy most things from WoW. Because WoW did it best. Trying to be different just for sake of being different results in GW2 being far inferior in commodity features, as well as some very important features, compared to WoW.
If you want to be different/better, take ALL the good stuff from WoW and improve them further. Don’t just avoid implementing them and think “hell yes, we’re different, we rock”.
Yes, you are different. No, you don’t rock.
No. No armories. No way for you to start creating gear-score, and “link achievement hurr durr”. None of that.
No.
NO.
Stop.
Seriously, No.
If ANet creates such a page, individual player in-game authorization must be given before a character is available for display.
I wish the Recout, Gearscore and Link Achievement mentality dies with WoW.
I would not mind an expanded form of official character profiling in the sense of being able to post a nice picture of your character (“Say cheese!”), a description for the story-lovers among us, a list of the names of your other characters, what world you play in, maybe even a your-favourite-weapon/item-spot. Your in-game title could even show on the character page. As you the OP said, it’s a good way for your friends to look you up and see what you imagine your character to be like.
What I would mind is anything that encourages players to judge eachother’s skill in gaming based on nonsense like gear before ever having seen them fight. In theory, being able to check other players out, gear included, sounds great. I heartily agree on that. You may get ideas to improve your own item configuration, trait build, etc. But the point is that the people who are saying that similar features will be misused by players to create stuff like Gearscore are right, because they will be.
I want to see this game the way I see it now. The closest thing to greatness in a community I’ve ever seen in an MMO.
If there’s no opt-out I AM affected by it. This isn’t WoW, we don’t need everything WoW has. This game isn’t about gear and gear scores. If you want to know what gear someone has, ask them.
I would even dare say that when there is an opt-out you are still affected by it. Then the reasoning of we don’t take you because you have slightly worse gear is easily expanded. Some people will not take you to a dungeon when they cannot inspect you as you might possibly have slightly worse gear. I have seen it happen in the past.
I believe they are already working on something like this, along other outside-client features, as part of the Extended Experience .

There are tons of MMORPG that copy things from WoW that you can enjoy them. I believe ANet can make GW2 rock without trying copy things from WoW.

I seriously doubt that. But let’s see them at least try. So far they’ve been battling the MMORPG market with talk only, not acting. It’s like hitting a Goliath with a wet towel and then talking of an epic battle.
SO sure I’m open for anything, but mind you, it HAS to be better than WoW (at least) in order to be noteworthy. So far, WoW is vastly superior. Again, not that I just don’t mind for GW2 to become the best game ever, I actually wish for that. But they have a LONG way to go in a very SHORT period of time.
