Tbh, this is exactly how I feel too except having played Archeage during the first few weeks I can say that playing trinity combat in dungeons honestly isn’t that much more enjoyable than waiting to play it was. Can’t even believe people cry about zerkmeta1111ing on here when it could be so much worse.
The hardest part of AA dungeons was the ranger in serpentis, because she’d one shot you if you weren’t hiding behind her with a max pdef pot on. The mage boss too (lehrman?) was interesting with his mana drain mechanic, really made witchcraft passives overpowered, but the dps race was pretty meh. AND prot wings, lel, gw2 pugs would love a 20second group invuln for half of the mechanics.
Good thing you could solo most archeage dungeons on dps with heal pots. x)
Good thing you could safespot everything because XL games is worse at fixing dungeon related issues than A-net is.
i honestly don’t get why people want healers and tanks so much.
GW2 has nearly no teamplay except in an advanced dungeongroups. But thats on a high level. Most people are not playing on this level, maybe not even doing dungeons. Anet failed to bring this teamplay elements into casual play.
Teamplay elements are too complicated. For example combofields require some knowledge, are not explained ingame and hard to use. You end up stacking retalation instead of might. Aegis for example can save other players – or avoid like 500dmg.
There should be more strong easy to use teamplay options.
Teamplay elements have no visible impact. Most effects increase dps like 5% or so. Its not “whohoa, I’m hitting like a truck. Thank you player X”. There should be more teamplay elements with more visible effects – timewarp like. WoR is also in a good spot.
Unexperienced players tend to spread out and miss support. An unexp. player is out of reach of a guards F2/F3, a PS-Wars might, etc. Many player even leave regeneration/water fields when they could need the healing. Better indicators and more reach could be helpful (green circles = healing).
Support in GW2 is more on a hack’n slay level. I think the amount of support a guardian usually brings can be compared to the amount of support a GW1 warrior was often bringing…. (Warriors are dps in GW1.)
Roles add different playstyles. Playing a support, tank, dps char feels very different. If your running a fullsoldier warrior or a AH-Anchorguard: it doesn’t feel so different.
On a more casual level GW2 offers very few teamwork. You need it when your running more fragile builds/equip and are optimizing times. But not in open world content as a fullnomad AH-Guard. GW2 has roles, all Anet needs to do is to bring them into casual play. For example might stacking: PS-Warriors are becoming more and more common, they got a visible effect, are effective and easy to use. Anet could do the same for other classes. Like “allies deal +1000 dmg for the next X attacks” or whatever. Something which has a visible impact and feels supportive.
An example of a “fail”: healing usually needs to be fast. Guards new heal-elite has 4-5 seconds cast time. Thats not very helpful. Should be an instant cast, a panic button, would be more casual friendly. I don’t think it would make the elite op. Maybe in WvW, but they could use a longer casttime for PVP and WvW.
Top end teams in my old games didn’t do that though. Your Healers DPS, your tanks DPS and they even make sacrifices to their role to do more damage. Not only is it more effective, but it’s also more fun and breaks up the monotony of the tank n spank system. We used to have tanks and healers wearing DPS gear because we knew we could cover the base requirements and it made it more fun.
I still remember the fun I had on my LotRO warden. As a medium armor tank, she had a good variety of active protection and (self and party) healing abilities available through skill combinations. I’d take her into max-level dungeons with dps equipment and a full party of melee dps players (champions) and just tank+heal the whole thing myself.
It was one of those classes that not many people grasped all the intricacies and utilized to the max, but if you did, you could do pretty much anything with it. It was probably the most fun I’ve ever had with an mmo character. Unfortunately, they eventually went and butchered the class by changing the skill/trait system so you could no longer combine tanking, healing and damage dealing but had to trait for one or the other exclusively .
If that’s what the new gw2 dungeons would’ve looked like, I’m almost (almost!) glad they stopped. I want to FIGHT stuff, not jump over platforms and lure mobs to pressure plates and all that bullkitten.
There was a raid boss in LotRO that would periodically flood the whole boss room with acid that did massive damage to everyone not moving and jumping around at the same time, so the whole raid (12 players) would jump around like a bunch of gummy bears every few minutes. Most new players would die a couple of times in the beginning just from laughing so hard that they were unable to coordinate the jump+move thingy correctly . That encounter was utterly ridiculous.
Of course, beating the boss eventually came down to being able to burn it before it spawned the first acid wave … so much for “trinity games require so much more than just damage” …
Basically my ideal boss… I’d probably ragequit after a few seconds. That’s THE kind of gimmick I despise. That, and buggy AI.
“And you started playing ranger” yeah, yeah, I know. I couldn’t help it, I just fell in love with her. Whenever I crush on some girl… I crash and burn.
I also been stacking Fractal Spoons lately. Brings me back to the nostalgic times of checking for pug’s number of Ghastly Stones in UWSC in GW1.
GW1: UWSC 100+ Ghastly Stones
GW2: FOTM 50 ping 100+ Fractal Spoons
Well, that one idea for a better experience indicator than AP.
Sits back and waits for the LFG screenshots and Gen Disc QQ

What if you’re not lucky enough to drop spoons ?
The amount of pristines and spoons taku has is kittening crazy. I only have like 550-600 pristines and 53 spoons or something like that. Pales in comparison.
I have about 87k arah tokens though!
Do you live inside arah miku?
I have abt 400
Fractals are pretty much the only remotely interesting content left in this game after 8k hours. And even then pretty much only reason why I do them is so I might accidentally get a tonic some day.

He does. Sometimes we go out for dinner, tho. Even when stuff tastes like ebola or aids

An optimist, I take it? Or simply can’t be bothered to restart anew with another mmo when there’s still this one and no other game is as interesting?
I hate starting from scratch everytime I hop games… I mean, sometimes it’s fun (rpgs…), but in mmos IT ISN’T.
P.S. They’re playing cs:go but I HAVE TO tell someone how kittened I am, so kitten it, forums it is. I was eating some yoghurt, right? kitten as hell, but there’s nothing else in the fridge, not even a sliver of cheese… anyway, I start slurping it with enormous grace – slobbering all over my keyboard, when all of a sudden… look! there’s a tiny droplet of it on my hand. I really have the grace of a st. Bernard…

Excuse my outburst while I die from poisoning. Write “he died with his armor on” as epitaph.

Omg deSade i remember a couple months back, my sister in law had been baking cake all week, leaving cake icing on the kitchen table, I would dip my finger in and eat it, until one night I dip my finger in (take a huge amount of “icing”) but it wasn’t icing, it was shortening, pure fat. I died inside and since then, I can’t eat cake icing.

Ughhhhhhhh, that’s pure evil bait.
Can’t look at food with the same eyes ever again :/
Shortening with obscene amounts sugar creamed in (like when making cookies) is probably the most delicious and satisfying thing to eat ever.
I’m not proud about knowing that, but it is what it is :P
:O
I say, the most disgustingly good thing ever… mortadella with bread. Like, not a sandwich – a huge slab of mortadella, a slice of bread, 2 fingers of mayo, some sliced tomatoes (for those on a diet, duh!), ANOTHER slab, some bread, more veggies, more mayo, more meat, MORE EVERYTHING and you just die there because your blood sugar turns you into a popsicle.
I like that your unit of measurement for mayonnaise is “finger”.
That does sound good…almost time for lunch…hurry up noon…
I had this bad habit of… owell.
And yeah, I use that everytime
Hurry up dinner! Today’s wednesday, special day. At least used to be <.<

id prolly enjoy gw2 more if they just swapped some wildstar bosses and mechanics in. Especially the training dungeons.

the video in question
Though have a feeling im the extreme minority. I mean talk all you want but people can barely dodge.
And 55% of the GW2 player base who are hardcore enough to read the reddit and respond to a survey which says nothing about the casuals who don’t keep up with reddit/forums don’t even have one character fully ascended.
The same people who are cheering “woohoo berserker will be dead in HoT challenging content!” are the same people who haven’t even gotten fully ascended on a single toon and can’t dodge the most basic tells with consistency.
The anti-zerker crowd need to look at the big picture: if the content is truly that challenging, there is no way they are going to do it. What tiny percentage of GW1 players ever did a full clear of Domain of Anguish or Slaver’s Exile? Probably single digits. Though I am fairly convinced Berserker/Sinister gear will still be meta for challenging content, even supposing it isn’t for a second: what does that mean to open world living story casuals?
Let’s say in the hardest new instanced content of the game, a single pure healer/tank is meta. What sort of victory is that for the casual crowd who will never enter the instance? So Snow Crows use a healer to clear Domain of Mordremoth, what does that mean to the average casual who does open world event farming? Doesn’t amount to much. When I did GW1 PvE casually, I was well aware that speed clear guild were using Shadow Form to speed clear content and it was meta. I never used shadow form when I did my casual hero-hench normal mode clears of Fissure of Woe or hard mode dungeons. The speed clear meta wasn’t relevant to me as a casual pve player. If the need for a “pure healer” only applies to the utmost challenging content that isn’t going to amount to anything for the pure healer revenant who gets kicked from his fractal 50 group.

Exactly. The casual crowd thinks we will have to accept them. Truth of the matter is that they will only suffer more. We can play any role. We simply choose the one we ejoy more.
Gonna be funny when they realize that they are digging their own graves.

While I agree with you for the most part Nike, I do think it would open things up a bit.
I think we all know that there is strength in a Pillar guard that’s well played. Not everyone is a good player, most people can’t solo Grawl shaman or Lupi with their eyes closed while playing with their toes. To those a Pillar guard can actually make things much smoother.
Of course those types of builds aren’t needed, but if there were discussions on how to actually pull it off well and how it could be utilized effectively then maybe groups that could actually benefit from it wouldn’t be so opposed and preferring to wipe repeatedly to some of the harder encounters.
It’s been a long annoyance of mine about how polarized and extreme the community (mainly on the forums) is. There is strength in well made non meta builds(not staff sentinel AH guard…), and the Meta isn’t something everyone can handle. It’s certainly something people should aspire to, but there are strong alternatives.
Doesn’t mean I want to see a group full of these builds, but I do think many PUG groups would benefit from having a single Pillar guard or the like. But, at this point it’s so demonized that even a reasonable application of these play styles is seen as unacceptable and dumb. I think that could change if there was more discussion about the strengths of that type of play and less of a negative outlook on it.
Its pretty simple. You dont need to be told how to play suboptimally and safe. Thats easy. However people misinterpret the advice given on optimal play as the only method. Then again if people are stupid enough to misinterpret it like that then they deserve to stew in their own ignorance.
And the content is so easy right now there really is no point on wasting effort encouraging safety.

That kinda makes a up a very large part of the community doesn’kitten I mean alot of people run builds they read about without really knowing why. Or they throw alot of crazy stuff on their bar and think they are unique.
There is alot of ignorance going around in game. I always read up or pay attention to new Meta builds as they are introduced, yet I realize that each encounter won’t call for everything that a Meta build can do. Certain traits/skills can be swapped out to make a fight easier.
I think the real issue is that people don’t learn how to play their classes. This could be anets fault for not making people grasp them better, they just read a guild pick the traits mentioned the skills listed and call it a day, thinking just because they have on X armor or X traits they are OP even without doing the proper rotations or using the right skills.
Can’t count the number of staff guardians who have joined me when I pugged, wearing “Zerker” armor, no WoR, and making sure to empower just after we blast 25 stacks of might so that the duration gets cut in half.
That mattvisual video is awesome, btw. Made me crack up.
And yeah, we got no tutorial. GW1’s tutorial was short and limited, but at least IT WAS A TUTORIAL. This game… zero. Nada. Nichts.
Anyway, whatever, I think they’re too stoopid to even figure out what combo is, and then too lazy to use them.
I don’t even know what to bring on my guardian’s bar as the 3rd slot in some fractals like the top archdiviner, pugs walk away from WoR, run in massive circles staying out of aegis range, I don’t even know how to support them with a 3rd slot.

You have a point. But, first no reason to demonize it the way we have, I can’t help but feel that good support has simply gotten lumped in with the hate for PHIW styles because they claim they’re support. Second, I’ve come across many average groups of players, by that I mean guilds or cliques where they could very much benefit from some non meta options, but they’re held back by a few members being devout meta worshipers demanding everyone else play that way with them and being friends they all just go along with it even if it’s detrimental and leads to backing out of challenges and using exploits, just wiping repeatedly at times or worst case ranging and even simply just running in circles doing nothing.

When that happens, just play necro. The meta never exists
Necro ranks second in my easy-to-work-in-a-meh group.
Yeah while it lacks tools, it can be quite easy to play absorbing things right and left with DS Been having fun with mine lately.
