Why, oh why are there always big-mouths in the general forums that feel the need to inform me that I better not turn up in their sacred dungeon runs as they’ll kick people “like me” with no mercy? None of them even knows the first thing about my ability to play or understand my classes.

Just by saying that I’ve gotten some characters to 80 post trait-revamp and got enough traits during leveling to have a good starting point for a decent build, or mentioning that you can complete all of the dungeons in this game in non-meta setups in a decent timeframe gives people the right to claim that I don’t know anything about dungeons, requirements and builds, or how to play my classes?

I may not be the best dungeon player there is, too old, poor reflexes, not enough time and determination to get the necessary practice to become one of the best, but I know my theory, and if I talk about things, I know what I’m talking about. I’m really getting sick of those stupid kids that can only defend their opinions by attacking and down-talking others.

For instance, I am slowly levelling a human ranger. I used some tomes (not many) and some XP from the dailies, but for the most part I’m completing maps for XP. So, I’m level 51 and I have… wait for it… wait for it… ONE trait unlocked (applause here). Seriously. Wow.

How did you manage that? If traits are this important to you, didn’t you even look through the unlocks to see if there’s any near your leveling route?

I’m leveling an asura necromancer at the moment. She got a level 20 scroll to start out, then went into the world by herself (all daily xp scrolls go to another character currently). She’s at level 32 now, so can’t even slot a trait yet, but already has five (from assorted level 15-40 areas) unlocked simply because she passed by the spots to unlock them in her leveling journey.

If you see a champion (or even veteran) up, just shout it out in map chat, and you’ll have a player (or three) join you there in no time. Most of the time though, it’s not even necessary to go to map chat, as there are always people around leveling and keeping an eye out for those events/champions that unlock traits.

The only “work” this new system expects you to do is being mildly aware of what trait unlocks lurk in the area around you. If you are a veteran of the game, you should have a good idea where the events are or what chain you’d have to follow through to get to it. The tooltips for trait unlocks clearly tell you where the event is located, so it’s not like you’d have to hunt for an unknown in a whole map or something.

The necromancer is actually the fourth character I’ve started to level since April. The other three (guardian, ranger, ele) all leveled by exploration (plus a bit of EotM, but no more than a level or two worth of experience), and each had more than 1/3 of their traits unlocked by the time they got to 80 simply by participating in unlock events they came across (plus the occasional dungeon story instance … I really enjoyed doing those on-level instead of with a full 80s group).

Don’t focus on “I don’t have traits, I’m useless”. Just keep your eyes open, and you will find that a surprisingly large number of trait unlocks are right there, just waiting for you to pass by and pick them up.

Don’t ever join my dungeon groups. If you don’t have traits, you’re useless. If you have ‘almost a third’ of your traits unlocked, I really don’t care – if they’re not the right traits to be useful, go away.

Just an observation… Mr. unnamed griefer who got caught on video kicking crows and selling dungeons is back in game, bringing shame to my name. GG >_<

Today was definitely a bad day for me in dungeoning…. was doing our usual tour and encountered a few bugs which meant we couldn’t finish some paths and had to reset. Most mind boggling was the effing clown car in SE p3 which just decided to sink and never surface again -__-.

In other news, I’ve been soloing AC and giving it away to leveling guildies a lot recently. In my pre-reset solo today, I got Adelbern down to 5% and went behind a pillar to hold him while I brought people in. Done this a few times, always worked before.

This time, the freakin’ NPCs kill him before I could get everyone into the instance.

So second solo, I figure, kitten it, I’ll get these guys killed first.

I run in, smack Adelbern and go hide behind a pillar while the NPCs rush in.

Eir? Dead immediately.

Rytlock….well…Rytlock is, apparently, in full Nomads with healing signet and dragon rolls. Refuses to die. I take a screenie when Adelbern is at about 90%.

At 80%, I DC -_- QQ

Rytlock never took a bit of damage. #1 tank NA.

Try explaining to him that AH is self only, I know that’s what hit me and got me to stop thinking of it as a viable build in PVE way back. Hammer isn’t bad, blocking fire/water fields sucks but hey perma protection is nice. Same thing with Mace.

Giving up your blind spam without the 3 points in radiance though is a big no-no if you want to be a supportive guardian. Giving up Master of Consecrations is also a bad idea unless you know it won’t be used.

I’m ok with non meta, I’m ok with not focusing fully on DPS, but playing selfish is simply that, by going with an AH build he’s building to make his own play easier not the play of his group.

If he wants to play a fully support healer type thing he could at least do something like :

And before someone gives me crap, No I wouldn’t actually suggest it, just saying, there are dozens of better ways to play with a better focus on healing and team support, a 20660 build is simply as bad as you can get, no damage and little support. I do think there are non meta ways to make things easier at a sacrifice of time though, I use to play a setup with friends we called “braindead meta” which did just that, but it got boring

After Iron bull there’s not much to be seen. Too bad there’s no downscaling, first zones feel so easy on Nightmare :<

it’s earlier levels that feel harder on nightmare, it gets easier when you are higher and have a ton of abilities :S

and iron bull has a lot of charm, gogogo get to work on it :p

Especially considering what a dolt Sten was, Iron Bull is surprisingly charismatic

Oh god, I hated Sten so much I actually let him rot in his cage everytime after my first playthrough. He was freaking unbearable to me.
Anders was annoying too, but at least he liked cats.

his general behaviour and attitudes are so alien to the rest of us since he’s a dedicated believer in the qun and hasn’t known anything outside of it, and being able to earn his respect as the warden was honestly one of the highlights of the game for me (omfg when he refers to you as kadan <33333)

Over the last week I’ve slowly come back to this game and have been doing a fractal each day. I was reminded how.. " interesting " PuG life can be.

i never knew this much health was possible on a guardian. was pugging arah because i got bored, and this thing joined my group.

Even my WvW guardian with guard stacks + Force of will doesn’t have that much HP wat!!!!

Gearcheck is already a dead horse, just like Cantha, capes, trinity, expansion, nerf zerkers etc.

The best you can do is use that dps meter, no one got banned so far.

Might have to. Thankfully I got my own group. It is just so crazy to see people freaking out like they will never be able to play again. And that we want to invade their groups and kick them. I for one just want to enjoy my game in peace

You know what really, really bothers me about phiws?

I’m not afraid of my gear, even if I know it’s not perfect. I don’t have 3 assassin/zerk pieces or whatever that bullkitten is. Only 3 of my 8 characters are full ascended and my engi still has flame legion runes because I’m a cheap kitten. I don’t have an ascended weapon for every single dungeon out there, I only got 1 set with sigil of force and the other night, or night/force – force/undead. Despite all this, I wouldn’t be afraid to ping. Why? Because I know it’s decent enough, there’s nothing out of place (at least on the chars I play the most!), if I do fractals I make sure I have the right AR, I play with people that want to play with me – with players that are aware of my filthy elitism (or should I say jerkism?).
We don’t invite pugs like today (posting some funny screens later, if I’m not banned) and expect them to be great. I watch them fail, laugh under my breath, maybe make a little comment in chat, but I leave them be. I don’t team up with people that don’t want my toxic elitism.

PHIWs, well, they don’t give a kitten about all that. They don’t care if you don’t want them for whatever reason, petty or not, rational or not; they don’t read, they don’t tell, they don’t listen, they don’t care.
They don’t. They just happen to be… there. Uncaring. Unmoving, and no amount of pleas will ever persuade them to help you by being less of a liability – since they don’t listen to any direction and resist any attempt at varying their “playstyle”, even just slightly, even for just that one time.

I could go on, but this is what bothers me so much. Carelesness.
If they’re THAT afraid of being kicked in their kittenty gear, how come they don’t change to have a better chance at succeeding in what they plan on doing (farm shinies)? That’s right, they don’t want to; they’re too lazy to bother posting their own lfgs, how am I supposed to expect that they change anything to help me? ME? Ha!
No, obviously, I just have to roll on my douchy, blonde, elitist guardian and carry them by force, kicking and screaming, right? Who cares if I want to play ranger or elly? why would they help me? I got reflects, I got aegis, I got cleanse, I got everything they need to leech off the run, they don’t have to do anything.
Bah.

I pretty much gave up. I thought both sides could support this. As both sides get trolled.

There were a few who saw the potential. Most just saw an end to their gravy train and want to stand there with the I hands over their ears screaming “La la la la”

Honestly, I played so many games with gear checks and none of those communities where more toxic than gw2. Or, to be exact, more idiotic.
This game rewards you for being dumb…
Might aswell inspect and see how dumb the guys in your party are. Right?

Anyway, here’re the screens I promised.
1. Camping fire the whole run (probably doesn’t know you can switch because I didn’t see another attunement once)
2. tornado at lupi, spiders and simin
3. killed himself with fire projectiles at grenth’s wraith, went straight to defeated despite my buddy trying to help him; he wouldn’t stop attacking the wraith with the aa.
It’s been a while since I last saw a tornado…. I was pleasantly surprised. How’s the bingo doin’?
Bonus point: mesmer’s TW right ON the phase transition.

And yeah, I was on defensive utils because I was terrified of bubbles. Got bubbled about 3 times.

On the run with my ranger I had to solo with lb/sword because he got everyone killed with a bubble and there was only… me and my pet, against the world!

Twas painful, but fun. I think I might try a lb solo now that it’s buffed. The aa in melee range does about as much damage as the gs and it doesn’t cause fumble dodges, which is a HUGE problem. P1 might be trickier, though; I’ll try one of these days.

Ok, you got me there, I gave up before I could get his approval to more than like… +60/70 or so. We just don’t get on well together, same for Cassandra. We’re too different.
