Last night, my little brother shared me this “Wall of Hate” which he has accumulated over the years of diligent pugging. I’m not sure whether he would post the image himself at some points but I couldn’t resist

I want to add a bit of background information. This “little brother” I have always mentioned is a junior fellow countryman of mine who has helped me a great deal since my noobie days. He is a highly skilled player in all classes yet still a humble and avid student of the [Noob] mentoring program. In short, he is the kind of meta player with a casual experience. His LFG usually reads “80 experienced, DPS, meta or close to meta only”, which hilariously attracts all sorts of imaginable hostility. Plus, this guys is a bit of a tease with his explosive passive-aggressiveness. He never kicks anyone for being bad, but his speech may or may not have pushed them off the cliff

I want to dedicate this Wall of Hate to our dungeon community on this ThanksGiving occasion.

Which way you mean?

To me there are both sides of the coin and PuG game is more like a social experiment than playing a dungeon. I’m just amused at how people can resort to verbally demean others when opinions clash. In a certain case, it does seem pretty civil, but in most cases, it blows my mind.

Then it comes into question: How often and differently each dungeon regular obtains his own Wall of Hate? How patient you can stay to keep pugging?

I can guarantee that the other side of the coin, will rarely receive such hate. I join and create “all welcome” type of lfgs all the time. No meta player has ever joined in to chastise players like that, and pleny of meta players do join these groups as well as noobs.

I guess it is no surprise to most of us who frequent dungeons to understand which side of this “elite” and “casual” playerbase is more inclined to go out of their way to abuse and create an environment of (oh got I hate using this word) …. toxicity.

(Casuals are by far more toxic, for those of you who are having trouble following along)

If someone gets THAT kind of hate (the one in the “wall of hate”) so often… it means that someone is the trigger. I used to be an explosively kitteny and aggressive teenager with uncontrollable anger issues and I was always in the middle of some heated argument, especially since I was a pvper (gasp) in gw1. The things that community did to me… like, I turned into a little monster. I was flaming and calling names 24/7. Now I’m not nicer, but I’m more withdrawn and overall lost any energies to argue since I became this pathetic shell of a man, so these things don’t really happen anymore. Whenever someone DARES to just say one single misplaced word in my party, /kick.
If people insult you like that and you’re NOT in pvp, it means 90% it’s on you.
It’s not about pugs, it’s not about casuals vs elitists, it’s not about EU pugs vs NA pugs. It’s about you.
I used to think everyone around me was stupid, too stupid to understand me and that I was different from them.
Now I know better… /sigh
You know, it would be easier, much easier, if I could convince myself that it’s not all a misunderstanding but I actually have something special they don’t have.

Create an lfg requiring meta build and gear. Then make them ping prove they fit the requirements. Then kick if they don’t. You will see these types of comments flow in more regularly than you think.

I’ve done it, I even put up ap requirements for a few months. You know how much people hate those. It was only me and my buddy, back then. Before I met spoj and all. I’ve never been harassed like that. Maybe because we were trying to be nice in “enforcing the law”, I don’t know. We can’t make a statistic, the 2 of us, so we’ll never know how things really are; we can only share our experiences. All I know is that people don’t snap at you often for no reason. That’s it. Maybe it’s a twisted, crazy reason you don’t condone, but still…

I hear ya, there are many people out there who are an kitten when it comes to filtering out player for meta in the LFG. I was a part of that for a time as well. Some of the PMs that appeared in my chatbox was definitely warranted. But for a time I was very polite when kicking other players, even then the negativity in the replies didn’t reduce by that much.

This is how I eventually came just not caring about looking for meta people any more when I pug. The frustration from receiving those types of remarks just isn’t worth it. I dont’ mind waiting longer for a group of like-minded players, but when these players decide to be a pain in my butt just for doing so? “All welcome” it is.

No bitterness here because playing with terrible pugs is actually more interesting and fun now xD. As for us not being enough for creating a solid statistic, yea i can agree with that. But from my experience alone, I can at least say that getting unwarranted insults like this when you ask for Meta in the LFG can happen.

Should’ve seen that pug arah run Joey the Creator and i did months ago, 3 guards in super tank builds, healing stacks, staves everything! we kept pulling all the mobs at every skip and they just wouldn’t die it was insane, so after a while i asked the guys: do you ever use walls? So a minute later i see 2 walls of reflection next to each other reflecting all the drakes we had magically pulled, it was so epic sadly i failed to screen it…worst part is they were not trolling, they were dead serious, the dungeon ended in a pretty weird backstabbing/mutiny kind of manner actually come to think of it the run never ended… For them, they wanted to kick Joey so we kicked them xD.

I also gotta admit we were never in it to complete it, we were just trolling and goofing around doing stupid kitten.

Well, I’m pugging almost the whole time and it worked best for me to set up groups reading “zerker only, gearcheck”. The well known path will be usually done by 10-20 minutes. However, you’ll almost never find true berzerker’s gear, most people are using something non-optimal, like hoelbrak runes and such, but it’s better than to play with the “I play how I want” crowd. I’m on EU servers, so I don’t know if this applies to the NA servers as well.

I do this as well. My lfg’s are usually just “p1” for example. I rarely commit to “all paths” in case I land a truly terrible group.

For the records, whenever I was in my lil’ brother group, I tried to be fair and not ganged up on the person in his quarrel. More often than not, I got to be called out as " fat egirlfriend" (d’uh, mind you, your mighty Iris is drop-dead gorgeous), for acting familiar with my brother. It proves to me that these individuals already have this elitist anti-elitism mindset which triggers their explosive kitten anytime anywhere.

But then for those people who join the runs which specifically advertise to a certain type of play styles (meta) even though they disagree with such, do they deserve our silent tolerance? Wouldn’t our empathy just die off eventually? I stop pugging for these reasons.

In the end, I don’t know what is worse…

If your party is smart enough to give you good amounts of swiftness you can run around the room aggro the golems and pull them to the Husk with temporal curtain. Goes faster than 4 people running around the room but still not as fast as 2 people in the opposite sides of the room with the guns.

As far as I know only thing affecting the dmg on it is the amount of vuln he has when a golem blows up next to him so feel free to put on your other set (provided it’s fashionable enough).

Thats why i said niche situations. No need to take offense and go on the defensive.

So suddenly 80% of the content is niche? Interesting.

Sorry, I didn’t realize that 80% of players’ prime time is spent running around in zergs and tagging either.

I wasn’t speaking about tagging, nor were i speaking about some players “prime time”. I was talking about the game content – and in PvE most of the content is open world, not dungeons. And for that, gs is actually really good.
The fact, that some players’ “prime time” is devoted only to niche content doesn’t change that.

First, he retorts at spoj for saying tagging is niche then in his reply to me he just denies all of his logic.

For those who enjoy Silverwaste like me, iDuelist is pretty sick with its safe-ish unloading range, iSwordman has a dodge and both weapons provide solid block/CC skills. They are particularly good against Mordrem Wolves who come in pack and constantly jump on you.

“I see a group of enemies coming, so I use two single-target skills which lose their effect once one of the targets die.” Logic? Tip: you don’t need any CC and blocks if a group of mobs have been mowed down by iZerker and Mind Stab before they even reach you, and if you do, you group them with Curtain pull, immobilize with iLeap and Blurred Frenzy to finish off.

Does it smell like an over-stretch to you? Because I highly doubt his scenario. I find the mix of mobs during both escort and defense events are fairly hard to group up and deal with iZerker, i.e. wolves, tegariff, root-thrasher. Unless he attacks the menders only :\
