It’s been 2 years, and I was NEVER kicked from a dungeon before, until today.
I was running CoF Story Mode at 4AM with a bunch of low AP people. Bear bows who use Longbow in melee, people asking why they deal more damage with banner, etc…
They seemed kinda lost, and very hesitant to move anywhere. So I decided to take the lead, call targets, tell them stacking locations, etc…
Right before the final boss, I’m kicked.
Look, I understand being an unpleasant person who kicks someone to invite their guildies, but kicking someone at 4AM really makes it to a new level of being an awful person. You don’t kick someone at 4AM at the final boss. Ever. It doesn’t matter how much you don’t like them, if you’re at the final boss, and it is 4AM, you don’t kick them!
People play video games because they want to relax in a virtual world before a stressful event in real life. MMOs like Guild Wars 2 there for play a very important role in people’s lives, especially my Israeli friend in the IDF who’s going through a lot of kitten with Palestine right now. Obviously I shouldn’t compare myself to my friend, but the point is that dungeon runners should be more considerate before thinking they’re cool griefing. There are real people behind the computer screen, and they can be affected by what you do.
I’ve already blacklisted the people in question, but I’m not particularly pleased by their behavior, and it really does turn me off from running with low-AP people ever again.
I think I’m beginning to understand why people make 5k AP and Zerker parties now. In my experience, bearbow newbies with 600 AP tend to not be cooperative, and act incredibly close-minded, and I do think there is a explanation why that is so. While I completely understand correlation is not causation, and obviously players with high AP can be unpleasant too, I think I have an idea why this seems to be the case.
Running full zerker gear and having higher AP requires a decent degree of social understanding and interaction to even achieve those feats in the first place. For example, you must be able to farm the gold or have run Arah, CoF, and CoE to even have full zerker gear in the first place. Afterwards, to have 5k AP, you either have to have had done a lot of dailies, or participated in some form of social game mode which actually involves reading the chat (Fractals, Dungeons, WvW, PvP, Tequatl, etc..)
It’s kinda safe to assume Zerker gear+Achievement Points are not only a sign of game experience and meta, but also proof of having interacted enough with other players.
In contrast, those with poor social skills and stubborn personalities tend to ragequit this game before even passing 2k AP, since they tend to ignore the chat box and get overwhelmed. That, or their poor social skills causes more experienced players to reject them, and decide running endgame dungeons is not worth their time.
Either way, from this day forward, I have no shame being picky about groups any longer. Getting kicked is the “thank you” I got for trying to help out a bunch of newby bear bows with 600 and 900 AP at 4AM…
