Krall Peterson – Warrior
Piken Square
Why are people assuming that they will tell us every single thing that will happen in a preview a week before the actual patch?
Based on information found in the dat-files they haven’t even told us half of what will happen.
I can see this all playing out in another way.
The Big Surprise:
Queen Jennah announces her upcoming nuptials to Rytlock Brimstone as move to quell separatist sentiment and cement the newly signed alliance between the humans and charr.
Logan, smelling something fishy about the arrangement elopes with a Quaggan Princess and is last seen trying on aquabreathers at the local five and dime.
Trahearne, dazed by the sudden events is found in the Caledon forest two weeks later banging his head against a tree and repeating “this won’t end well” over and over and over. Caithe is behind him trying to convince Trahearne that he is barking up the wrong tree.
Meanwhile it is discovered that Zojja is the mastermind behind the corruption of the Clockwork soldiers as the result of a failed experiment to create a bride for Mr.Sparkles.
Would make the story a bit more interesting!
After reading the mined .dat, I can safely say that NOBODY in this thread is even close to correct.
You’re in for a treat.
Most people in this tread are trolling Arena Net for their predictable Living story, im sure many do not believe what they are saying, they are just trolling
>Complains about RNG in general
>Complains that we don’t have some more totally RNG minisI give up. I don’t even. I don’t even so hard.
I don’t think people want rng minis i think people just want more choice in a mini(be it random or select from a group). It be like getting a pikachu gameboy for your birthday then going to school to find everyone else with a pikachu gameboy. Sure you could love pikachu but i bet not as much now and i bet a lot of the people out their with the pikachu gameboy only care about the gameboy part. So what’s their to care about when it’s a mini? and if you have no choice then how is it gonna feel special? Also you know it’s coming now instead of it being a surprise birthday present.
They should of actually done minis that involved the dragons and the personal story. The story that was present and being told a year ago when we created our characters. This way they could do 1 mini for each elder dragon maybe doing a champion or a corrupted minion. Then players would run around with something a little more special and it would be relevant after the queen jubilee is gone to non human races.
Free stuff is free so im not complaining about that but adding mystery and variety to this birthday present idea would of probably made players get more excited about it.
I think next year Anet should just state “We have a number of things for you to choose from when your characters birthday comes up again” instead of spelling out what we get ruining the surprise.

so if i created a character on launch then deleted the following day :/ i won t get the cool mini Q___Q?

Not until your character turns 1 year no.
So….from GW1 to GW2…character anniversary present now it’s just ONE single Mini, that Everybody will have!!! I’m speechless …
GW2 gamers seem to be the most entitled of all.
We get new content and QOL patches every 2 weeks. Yet it seems you guys want a free expansion.
There is more content in the patch than meets the eye. It’s meant to be a surprise
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1k9wjp/the_queens_speech/
I don’t want a free expansion. Especially if it’s more living story/world content. I want a full kitten campaign like Factions or Nightfall, and I’d be more than happy to fork over the cold hard cash for it.
You definitely won’t get a full game like Factions or Nightfall. While they might open those worlds in the future, they won’t be a full game. At least Anet has said as much. One of the problems they touted from the original game was how so many single campiagns divided the player base. They said they wouldn’t do that again.
What a horrible update. Boring is the only thing i can think of this patch. I was expecting something great for the 1 year mark since launch but, yet again Anet lets us true gw2 fans down. Im tired of defending his game against trolls and my friends who list the facts about gw2. Its simply boring and this living story is a bad idea. I’ve read that because of the living world we weren’t going to ever get an expansion…….
Anet didn’t say we’d never get an expansion because of the living story. Anet said there were living story teams and people working on larger content packs, including new areas, new races, new weapons and skills.
Anet has yet to decide how these things would be introduced into the game. In any event the Living Story content isn’t interfering with the production of bigger upgrades of the kind you’d find in expansions.

Maybe I’m just being hopeful and optimistic but maybe they aren’t giving away all the details?
Because not only will next weeks update see the 1 year birthday of head start characters, it will see the 1 year anniversary of GW2.
So maybe they didn’t show all their cards on the page? Maybe they got more for us that they want to be a surprise?
And clearly Queen Jenna is going to resign and announce that the new King of All The Things will be Trahearne. August 28 is Trahearne The Amazing day henceforth.

I don’t care anymore what they say. This is what I say: I’m not going to stick around for another year of Living Story. I’m not going to stick around for another six months of Living Story. Not another three months. Maybe not another month. I’m sick of Living Story. No more.
The line must be drawn here. This far! No further! And I won’t buy any more gems to pay for more of what they are doing.
So here’s hoping Queen Jennah has one helluva speech.

This is a bad idea.
ArenaNet should have learned by now. Whenever they say they have a surprise, people:
1. Let their imagination go wild and expect all kinds of impossible things, only to be incredibly disappointed when they see what was actually in store for them.
2. Claim everything ArenaNet does sucks, so whatever it is that will come will be bad, and they will continue saying the same thing once the content is released.
Trying to make a surprise for people on the internet is the same as using sarcasm on the internet – you fail after the first person reads what you have written.

You don’t have to like it…but some people do. I happen to be one of them. Would I like it better than an expansion….probably not. But I don’t feel I need to compare them.
I actually quite like the changing up of content, and having different stuff going on in different places.
Well Trahearne is the most eligible bachelor in Tyria, after saving the world with his incomparable heroism.
This actually makes me laugh. The sarcasm
The queen’s big surprise: “Actually, I’m in love with Traherne”
His answer, “This won’t end well”.

Then again, there’s currently a thread complaining about revealing birthday gifts too early
so if i created a character on launch then deleted the following day :/ i won t get the cool mini Q___Q?

wait so i get it the day after ?
I thougt oonly character created at launch got the mini :o
Well good enough for me….
I’m expecting an uptick in FPS complaints when PvE Culling goes bye-bye. It’s bad enough after every major patch already so I’m dreading the 20th.
I hope the cheapskates out there realize that now is the time to start buying gems than Tuesday. There is already a slight uptick since the news broke.

Edit: Doh, ninja’d – and by 2 hours…
There’s so many negative comments because the more vocal audience of forums are people that never have anything nice to say.
Yeah, that’s it. It’s because we’re negative people. There’s nothing valid to complain about of course. Everything arenanet does is perfect. They could take a massive steaming dump on your desk and you would thank them and talk about how wonderful it smelled.
OR
The standardized birthday gifts are a tremendous disappointment after the wonderful experience birthday gifts were in gw1 and people are upset that ArenaNet opted to go with a standardized, boring 1 size fits all solution rather than continuing an interesting tradition that many of us enjoyed in its predecessor. No point in having more than 1 character because there will only be one bank slot for the queen mini, which means those of us with 5 or more characters will be deleting our queen to save space.
I absolutely cannot WAIT to delete my birthday gift due to redundancy & inventory space limitations. That sounds like so much fun!
Jokes on you! Minis stack.
Didnt play GW1 so not sure if the anniversary present is on par with those.
Mini will just go in bank never to be seen again, exp scroll i dont need as im lvl 80, booster maybe ok depending on what it boosts. They are on par with GW1 We just got minis or tunics in GW1. This is actually better as we get a booster and a Scroll of Experience.
You must be joking… In gw1 you had multiple minis, always at least 2 per year going way over 100k AND they were all sellable. Here you will be stuck with an acc bound mini (yet another one… as if we don’t have enough of these), a scroll LOL and a booster~~~~a booooooster haha
I dunno, what’s the joke? “Jungle Troll again?” “WTS Jungle Troll, will pay 500g for you to take it.” “WTS minis, need bank space back…”
Seriously, GW1 minis were useless unless they were the ones people wanted. And then most often it was undedicated only . . . also the ones most often going for 100K+ were bundled in collector’s editions, given as specific prizes, or were the goshdarn Mini Polar Bear.
Didnt play GW1 so not sure if the anniversary present is on par with those.

There’s quite a lot of truth in this. The Guild Wars 1 mini system was really bad – all they did was clog up your bank and the dedicated/undedicated system only further convoluted things.
All GW2 minis really need is to require specific commands to send them to collectibles, rather than being lumped in the whole thing. An invis bag fixes it, but it’s still a nuisance.

How 2 per year? I only remember 1 per year..on your birthday. Are you including the ones you get for lunar fortunes on the Canthan New Year…because those weren’t guaranteed those were RNG.
At least 2 pets per year going way passed 100k, not receiving 2 mini a year.

Its no where near on a par, GW1 had 10+ different minis a year which were random and could be traded or sold with other players!
I can’t wait for 10 account bound Queen Jennas for my birthday, not..

Why do you even bring jungle Troll (a white mini) 8 years after the mini’s release (or whatever long ~~~ time its been out)? Of course it’ll be cheap and no one wants it but that wasn’t the case when the pet was first introduced. Almost all bday yellow and all green minis were worth over 100k when first added and with time they decrease in price ‘duh’. Even if you’re unlucky and got a a white mini, you can always make 40g+. What can you make from one generic Acc Bound mini that EVERYONE playing for 1y has? I know, i know!!! Store it in storage and forget it existed… Be hyped for dat scroll and a boosted because i certainly am, buying a cake/champagne and celebrating the ~~~~ out of this so wanted boosted and xp scroll!

Actually I was a bit put off by the birthday gift myself, but the truth is, the RNG in Guild Wars 1 birthday gives meant most people got worthless white minis anyway. However, it’s not a big enough difference for your reaction. You’re laughing because you don’t like the game, even though you say you do. You claim you post because you want the game to be better. How is any post in this thread making the game better?
They were never worthless, i traded mine with others and in the end they helped me boost my HOM rewards for GW2..
The surprise will be HUGE.
We’ll get an “expansions worth of content”
(edited by Dante.1508)
I think her surprise will be huge… They wont spoil it, but probably a new zone or something. It says its huge
AFAIK Colin already said we won’t be getting any new dragons/zones in 2013.
And another dev also reiterated to look to the skies.
So it’s pretty obvious that Divinity’s Reach is going to be invaded by Aetherblades and some real nasty kitten is gonna go down.
He never said no new zones. He said it was HIGHLY POSSIBLE that crystal desert would come so.. But yea, he said no new BIG dragons. But what about the small ones
But in all seriousness… 2 things i believe.
1. Shes pregnant with logan
2. She will marry logan…ALL HAIL KING LOGAN!
3. Then you get a personal quest to NTR the queen
The Queen will get assassinated. Divinity Reach will burn to the ground by the Aetherblades and Steam Ogres. We will see all the region of Queensdale and the city engulfed in flames and chaos. Humans are on the brink of extinction and players cannot create anymore human characters.
And somewhere far away, Trehearne is mistaken as a huge salad and a hungry Norn eats him.

Don’t care about the specifics of what mini cost what, I literally had a baker’s dozen of Jungle Trolls at one point and nobody to buy them. So what if the gold/green minis were heckuva valuable commodity? That’s because there were only so many and for most people they only got those for shelling out the cash or being lucky.
What I care about is pointing out the blindingly obvious:
The GW1 minis were just as useless on the first birthday, so arguing how the GW2 mini and other rewards are going to be pointless and stupid is . . . in fact, really just making stuff a bigger deal than it needs to be.
But then, I don’t really expect anything else. Even if the Birthday Present was 100 gold and a Precursor of your choice, people would be complaining. Heck, I’ll back it down several levels – if it was a free mini pack (the one you can buy off Black Lion) with the potential for any other mini in the game at higher rarities, one per character who was created last August? We’d still see lots of complaints.
But seriously, “these items are useless and I can’t do anything with them” makes me chuckle, since you couldn’t do anything with the ones in GW1 either aside from the Hall of Monuments and selling them to other people gullible enough to want them.

You could sell them. How isn’t this enough? If you started playing gw1 on day one and received a year 4 (just an example for years) mini the day it came, you could’ve made good amount of money by selling them all if you have multiple characters which all received one. Now from my understanding you’ll receive 8 same Acc Bound minis if you have 8 characters made the day gw2 came out… Doesn’t this sounds like a pathetic joke to you? I mean its so bad i don’t even want to bother talking about it. Its the worst bday present seen in mmo and hopefully wins an award for that

Everything is about loot and money and gold to some people. And I see that is the major problem faced by this entire genre. As long as that’s the focus, these games will be and remain meaningless.
In Guild Wars 1, your main way to get minis was birthday gifts. That was it. Here, there are tons of ways to get minis, including the gem shop. So if you have minis you could have been selling them for an entire year.
What would one more birthday gift even mean?
Sometimes I think people looking at a detail but forget everything surround the detail.
I’ve made quite a bit of money selling minis in this game.

Sometimes I think people looking at a detail but forget everything surround the detail.
I’ve made quite a bit of money selling minis in this game.
Its not about money, its about having a choice of selling or keeping. Do you have choice with Acc Bound mini? YES YOU DO! Store it in your inventory or store it in your storage and forget it existed.

See, you already admitted there is, in fact, a choice. You’re making progress
Also, how is it not about money, but your first post replying to me was about how you could make a pretty penny off the fourth-year minis. (Though to share something personal? I didn’t get crap for those fourth years as they, also, were white rarity. Though luckily not all the same one. So, you know, much like the other years the money was reserved for those having gold or green minis. I might have been able to sell them for one platinum each closer to GW2, though they didn’t sell at all.)
And it’s not the worst birthday present in the history of MMOs. I’ve gotten worse A little badge to display.

and a mini that you can do nothing else but display is different in how many ways? or is a scroll/booster supposed to UP this amazing bday present?
and a mini that you can do nothing else but display is different in how many ways? or is a scroll/booster supposed to UP this amazing bday present?
Well, yeah? I mean, it’s got a function other than “show off how long I’ve been around” or in the case of some minis “show off how awesome I was at farming/making plat, here’s my Mini Polar Bear!”
The scroll? Eh, maybe useful maybe not. The booster? Probably will be useful for a short time during play. Which is better in my book than “hey, look, a mini quaggan!”

It doesn’t sound like a pathetic joke to me. You can’t sell them. Shrugs.
Everything is about loot and money and gold to some people. And I see that is the major problem faced by this entire genre. As long as that’s the focus, these games will be and remain meaningless.

But again, the choice to sell or keep something that was special is one thing. Minis aren’t special in this game. Not in the same way they were in Guild Wars 1. You’re so stuck comparing this game to Guild Wars 1, you’re looking at details instead of the whole picture…and that’s okay.
But it doesn’t make what you say true. It’s just a point of view easily compensated for by looking at different details.

Its the same useless crap… You can’t say one crap is better than another because they’re both crap. If a badge you show is as poor as you’ve seen in an mmo, gw2 isn’t far from this level of poorness.

If it has a use, it’s not useless. If the use doesn’t work for you? Well, sucks to be you I guess? But it’s not solely a vanity award which has no use, as you admitted, except to show off.
Edit: Actually, the poorest I’ve seen is “nothing”. But hey, that’s how things worked before Guild Wars 1

its 2013 tho and this is gw2, the game that sold over 3mils!

. . . what point was that supposed to make? I’m confused by what the year and the fact this game sold a lot means.

You said “before gw1”. Can’t compare games released in late 90’s or very early 2000 when it comes to gameplay/reward and whatnot.

Why not? I just did. And I’ll do it again.
“EverQuest was much bigger than GW2, had a whole lot more to do, and still wasn’t as good.”

Because its a completely different mindset. Gaming industry evolve (or downgrade from your yearly CoD spam) with time because they know what people are looking for and what people are looking for changes with time.

Actually, this is completely true and I agree with you 100%.
People are looking for something different than they were looking for five years ago. The problem is, you associate what you specifically are looking for with what “people” are looking for.
Just to guess, I’d think your IQ is far higher than the average, and that you’re far more competitive than the average person, making what you’re looking for different than the majority (which by definition is average).
Personally I find it weird that races other than humans are getting a mini queen jennah as a birthday gift. Wouldn’t it be more appropriate if they get a mini related to their races? Like a mini trahearne for sylvaris. I’m sure they would love that! :O
Also I would’ve liked a cool toy better than another mini, like the balloon/kite/musical instrument/rose bouquet or whatever. Or a toy caladbolg that i can use in costume brawls.

It’s tied in with the current lore. My guess is the birthday gift isn’t coming from Anet but from Queen Jennah herself, to celebrate her ten years ruling. And since all the races have representatives there, it’s not really lore breaking to me.

I don’t really mind getting a queen jennah, i like her dress a lot. About Jennah giving out the gifts I kinda equate that to a celebrity handing out autographed pictures of themselves expecting the recipients to like them, which I find a bit egotistic. I’m not questioning its relation to the lore though, I was actually just joking about the whole thing. It does make sense the way you explained it though.
I just would’ve liked it better if other races get something more appropriate for them since jennah isn’t exactly everyone’s queen. A mini pale tree perhaps would be nice, but trahearne is just so much more controversial hahahaha. Asura can get a mini golem (which we don’t have enough of /sarcasm), charrs a mini rox, and norns, one of their elite spirit form skills.. Just ideas that I wanted to throw.
Yeah, that’s it. It’s because we’re negative people. There’s nothing valid to complain about of course. Everything arenanet does is perfect. They could take a massive steaming dump on your desk and you would thank them and talk about how wonderful it smelled.

Yeah, I’m sure there wouldn’t be any tears or rage if we all got a random birthday present and some of them were worth 100g while most were about as valuable as a locked Black Lion Chest.
That might have flown last decade but good luck getting the epic crybabies of today to ever swallow it.
