Maybe not losing anything directly, but I spent the money to have multiple dyes across my characters, now everyone gets that free.
Not only that, but people who were able to get online first also managed to make hundreds if not thousands of gold from the cheaper blue dyes on the TP.

You still aren’t losing anything. They are gaining stuff and you are gaining stuff. Any negative emotions you have are the result of comparing what you are gaining with what they are gaining. Focus only on what you are gaining and you’ll be happier, especially since what they are gaining has absolutely NO impact whatsoever on you or your ability to enjoy the game.

Again though.. I paid for the privilege of having the top tier dyes across multiple characters. Now everyone gets it free.
It’s somewhat disappointing that I only get a measly Unidentified Dye in return.

I understand your disappointment. It’s like when I pay for the privilege of having a top of the line computer, then 6 months later my sister buys a computer with the same specs for half the price. That’s why I recommend you focus on the positive!

And what about Hall of Monument and Zenith skins? Those are free to apply an infinite ammount of times now, will they require transmutation charges after the patch?

BUT…..

What no one has mentioned yet we’re all going to be charged to change colours on armour. At the moment I could change as often as I liked and it didn’t cost me anything (not including costs of any bought dye) now there’s going to be a fee every time I want a new look, how dear is this going to end up being. I know I wont be changing my colours as often as I do now.

No buts, changing colours will not touch your charge balance in any way unless you transmute skins at the same time. It’s called Transmutation charge for a reason.

They don’t want to cause unnecessary damage to the dye market. If they suddenly inserted 100,000 Abyss dyes, the price of the Abyss dye would plummet.

How would that be bad compared to what’s going on now? The “worst” thing that would happen is that cheap Abyss for a while would make it possible for poorer players to buy one, I’d see that as a good thing if anything. What’s going on now is simply a few people making a ridiculous profit on the back of everyone else. Which is a million times worse than the price of some dyes going down for a while …

There is nothing they can do. The people that have the free time during the devblog will always have an advantage over you. If they closed the TP and opened it in..8 hours. There would still be an advantage of people who log on before others do. There is no possible way to have every active GW2 player in existence log in at the same so its fair.

Even then..advantage to the smaller servers who don’t lag out. No matter what would be done…it will be unfair in some way or another.

if they refunded the duplicate Dyes opposed to Unidentified Dyes it wouldn’t be as much of a problem.
There’s far more people who bought cheap dyes to profit from, opposed to people who would have Abyss (for example) refunded.
The reason the likes of Abyss and Celestial etc are among the priciest dyes is because of their rarity and good looks. That isn’t going to change with the update, and so will still remain the priciest dyes on the TP. I can’t imagine they’d have changed too much if they deed indeed refund dyes.

If not that, then they could atleast award these new transmutation points (or whatever they are called) for each dye we would be refunded. Obviously getting more points depending on rarity of dye.

Allow me to back up Lil Puppy:

1. "One of the biggest changes we’re making is that dyes will no longer be unlocked per character but per account instead. "

2. “When you unlock a dye after the feature pack is released, all characters on your account will have unlimited access to that color.”

3. “If you already have the same dyes unlocked on multiple characters, when you log in on additional characters, you will receive one unidentified dye for each duplicate dye already unlocked on your account.”

4. No idea how Lil Puppy got this point or where obtained it from. From reading the post, that doesn’t appear to be true.
“Both specific colors of dye and unidentified dyes will still be tradable and available on the Trading Post”

And I paid for the privilege of early access but now everyone plays the game. I should totally get something for that. Maybe a hat.

I’m noticing something here. People complained about various minor issues like the wardrobe, character-bound dyes, and they kept it up and now it’s getting changed . . . and of course, it’s unfair because of it being changed.

This is just further proof it’s a fool’s game to try to build an MMO this day and age – no matter what you do, part of your audience is going to love it, the other half are going to come up with ways it screws them over.

The right way to do it will be to give an Account Bound dye of the Same Rarity as whatever the duplicate is. 2 Abyss? you get an account bound, guaranteed other rare dye. 2 cornsilk? you get another common.

My opinion – people speculating heavily today are going to get burned bad by this dye change in the end.

Lmfao lets just clam down and sit back and think about this for a moment.

Ok i can see the supply for dyes but where is the demand? I will let you into a little secret there is none.

Why buy all the unidentified dye up, how do you expect to shift them exactly? what are you going to do with them sell them to who i ask?
Everyone will have ever jumped on the bandwagon and done exactly the same as you and will have there own stacks to shift themselves, are you going to buy their dyes? as they shore are not going to buy yours.

You clearly forget that the vast majority of player playing now will have no need to buy dyes of you or ever again as you can bet your kitten the most have all the rares dyes they want/need and now they are account bound across all there characters so there not going to be buy them of you.

so what options are left stock pile them for months hoping people will suddenly create a massive demand for dyes pushing the market price up for players alts, oh wait! never mind, ummmm……. maybe you could wait for new player to join and collect the gold need to buy said dyes.
Good luck with that LOL

Do you really think Anet did not know this is how the player base would react to this change and do you not think they would have put measure in place or will put measures in place on release day to make all those dye you stockpile worthless?

Can anyone say gem store dye sets!, for a set gem/gold price set my Anet.

So If you think this is you meal ticket, you’re going to be greatly disappointed all your going to end up with is a bank fall of dye you can not shift and a shed load of wasted gold.

truly priceless.

I don’t think you quite get it so I’m just gonna say it and fingers crossed I won’t get in trouble.

People bought dyes for a few copper to unlock on all of their toons, come the update they’ll get 1 unidentified dye per repeat.

Say I have 5 toons, bought 5*10 copper dyes.
Come April 15, I’d be gettin 4 unidentified dyes which a few hours ago were going for 75 silver, but even 30~35 silver EACH is a huge return investment.

People have been buying every cheap dye they can for each of their toons to have repeats, so you’re looking at stock piles of unidentified dyes they’re getting in return when the update hits.

Now I seriously hope I don’t get in trouble for saying this because between my 6 toons I have maybe 3 or 4 repeats, I missed all this craziness because I can’t be online right now so I’m not getting a cent out of it.

o.O

  • Purchased unique skins.
  • Decided didn’t like.
  • Overwrote the skins.
  • Concern over having to re-buy said skins that were not liked in the first place

Why would one consider re-buying skins that they already knows they don’t like?

Because you can only buy them in a complete set. Meaning, I changed my mind on the leggings, and I’m wondering if I’ll have to re-buy the full set or if they have a way of tracking purchases.

They most likely won’t give you anything back. I had this problem quite a while back. I accidentally (not willingly) cancelled a piece of a cs set. They said they can’t give me back the piece nor a full set even if I deleted the rest of the armor

Why? This isn’t the real world where the wealthy can use their assets to deny you access to basic needs (governments exist to protect the assets of the minority wealthy from the majority poor and the majority poor from financial harm from the minority wealthy). No amount of wealth in this game can be used to impact another player.

Of course it can. Anything you may want to buy off the TP is influenced by it. If I want to buy crafting mats or armor, or a rare tonic or transmute item that has such a low drop chance that farming for it is pointless, I have to go to the TP and pay inflated prices. Just imagine if I wanted to buy new dyes today …

Despite the amount of sunk in gold for getting those dyes and not receiving them as duplicates when the update goes live. though, we’ll be receiving them as just unidentified dyes instead is a little unpleasant. i am though quite more overjoyed that i won’t be having to buy the same dye’s anymore time and time again.

what is silly is that unidentified dyes won’t drop anymore ~ they do drop from mobs, though quite barely. there’s no reason to take them off the drop list. how about raising the percentage of keys instead since they don’t drop at all. i’ve had better luck with getting a precursor from random mob instead of getting keys.

I welcome you to hop over to the Trading Post forum and read all about the many manipulation attempts people have tried. It doesn’t work because this economy is huge. Those prices are not inflated, they match the supply and demand for the item. People with lots of wealth have tried to impact other players by setting higher prices. What happens is those prices immediately fall because there is a huge volume of items that can immediately be listed for a lesser price. The wealthy guy loses his shirt, and the only people who are impacted are those who couldn’t wait 6 hours for the price to return to normal.

Personally, I’m thrilled over account-bound dyes. However, much like others have posted, feel like I’m not being adequately compensated for the amount of $$ I’ve put into purchasing dyes to get the various looks on my toons. Rather than getting a single unidentified dye for each duplicate, perhaps a more fair approach would be to give fixed number of dyes based on the rarity of the duplicated dye. So, for a basic we get 1, fine 2, masterwork 4, rare 8. Just a thought.

I sincerely appreciate the quoting and such.

Mostly it is the “When you unlock a dye after the feature pack is released” part that is tripping people up. I agree that it is likely referring to after the patch as opposed to using the word to exclude before the patch. But it’s still ambiguous to many people.

I also agree that the unidentified “gift” for pre-existing duplicates would probably not exist if they weren’t going to be unlocked… it just still doesn’t say that exactly.

Like I said, I agree with these posts.

Black Lion Chest and Dye Pack only give you Dye Pack. These Dye Pack once use give you a small number of dyes. It won’t give you unidentified dye like the one you need in the Gift of Color

For the Mystic forge. Its a PvP recipe that give you Account bound unidentified dye. These dye don’t stack with normal unidentified dye so even if they work for the gift of color (which i doudt because they use another ID), then you would need 250 of these account bound unidentifie dye, so you can really use that.

So you can only get unidentified dye from harvesting, loots and laurel merchant. With the loots being nerf (to which extend?), that don’t leave use with that much way to get unidentified dye.

It’s a logic problem, not an explicit statement.

1. Dye will be unlocked on the account, not the character.
2. Duplicate character unlocks will reward you with unidentified dyes.
3. In order to determine if duplicate unlocks exist, they must first become account unlocks.
Ergo: Current character unlocks will have to become account unlocks in order to determine if you are entitled to any duplicate unlock bonus dyes.

Really? I know who gonna buy those unidentified dye.

People that are going for the Bifrost need then to craft the Gift of Color. Since you have less way to get them, more people will buy them.

People that already flip unidentified dye. You buy a bunch of them, open them all and make a profit by selling the dye. The price of unidentified dye are set by those who flip them on a massive scale. The price regulate itself, since those people stop being unidentified dyes when its not profitable anymore, this make a drop in demand for unidentified dye (so the price go down) and since there is less of these high price dye on the market (abyss, celestial, etc) then their price go up meaning that the flipping of unidentified dye become profitable again. And the circle restart again and again. That’s call economy.

Unidentified dyes will cost more because the supply will be reduced, and the demand will increase:

- They can only be bought directly, or crafted.
- They are account bound, so more people will get into unlocking them all, as using a dye with a character no longer means others can’t use it, so any used dye is never waste.
- As they are a collectable feature now, a bit more people will use the less valuable dyes they have in the mystic forge to try and get some they don’t have, like with miniatures. So prices will become more evenly distributed, as lower value dyes till have value as Mystic Forge fodder to those who can afford them for extra tries.

All of that will raise their value.

Also, tradable materials for such dyes will also increase in price. Currently some are relatively cheap as few people is into crafting dyes since you can get more and cheaper through other means.

Just thank the gods there isn’t some “empty bottle” gemstore item required to craft them.

The answer is more, because 1) No more random drops, 2) Every dye now works for all characters.

Now, how much more is another question.

I highly doubt this in the short term. In order to see unid’d dyes as high as they went today will be 6-12 months out. My two mains have nearly every dye unlocked, I will likely get around 100 unidentifieds when they credit us for our dupes. I am just one person, if players have 2 more or dupes you are talking about 100K unidentified dyes, at least and I would venture it will be closer to 250K or even half a million. All at once. Only the ultra dyes will have any value whatsoever and that will only be to new players.

People who are holding dyes should sell them as prices are only going to plummet post patch.

What they should have done is give everyone back the exact same dyes they had as duplicates. Then people that bought expensive dyes wouldn’t be screwed over. Everyone is happy.

We’re getting a cool new feature that makes dyes so much simpler and overall cheaper in the long run. So a couple fortunate people are having a brief windfall. Who cares?

There is no need to buy them now. But those who are selling unidentified dyes today will make a lot of gold.
The price of unidentified dyes after a month will defently be lower than today.

1) Most players have every fine/masterwork dye already on at least one character.
2) Some also have all the rare dyes on one character.

3) April 15th – now all their characters have access to every dye from the base game.

Why do these people need to buy Unidentified dyes ever again, outside of gift of colour?

They don’t, and that is the point the OP is trying to make.

You can horde all these unidentified dyes now, but you’re not going to have anyone to sell them to. The price is going to crash, HARD.
