To be honest, I don’t believe any of us are qualified or understand fully the development time and cost required for the game. I’d love to have more content too but, I can see why it takes so long to create.

I disagree. GW2 has had very substantial updates, especially during the 1st year. There actually was a lot of content being put out, but the temporary nature of living story makes it seem otherwise. Not only that, but they had multiple teams working on it, instead of on more traditional content such as classes, races, traits, etc.

I think everyone agrees that we need more content,EVERYONE,i don’t know someone who woudl say “No we don’t need content”…and i don’t say that.
BUT WHAT I SAY IS :
We don’t need it delivered in big chunks 1 time a year or 2 times a year.

To my knowledge, which can be summarized as reading 80% of the posts on here, there is pretty much nothing that can satisfy this community. Literally something always has to cause conflict and several rage posts. To add to that, most of the forum posts that do offer criticism, don’t offer it constructively. There is a lot of “This is the last straw Anet”, or “Does Anet even care about their players?” on this forum. We get patches every month! And in the last 2 months, its been twice a month, which is absolutely insane for a game. Obviously its a continual learning process, but I don’t think most of you actually take the time to appreciate the immense work Anet puts into the game, part of which is going on the forums listening to you guys make lousy complaints.

I’m bored. had a beer. I’m going to leave this here. Not for the reasons you think though…. This is from a year ago.
(Sorry for using you as an example Skylight)

It’s because it highlights the way some players, while previously championing the ANet cause, have become a bit jaded. I agree it’s time for an expansion. Maybe not right now, but if Anet were to come out and say “We are hoping for an amazing addition to our product in 2016 that everyone will love, although it may cost $x amount” then it would quiet the fears of a lot of people that are worried the current content is becoming stale.

lol. Because I gave the LS a chance? Ye I used to think the LS could be a very big thing. Ive been proved wrong. I gave it a very fair chance for its content delivery and can objectively say it failed.

subjectively*

I certainly agree with this. What I (at least personally) would like to see is something more akin to Firefly/Serenity (RIP sadface)

6-8 months of LS release, followed up by a “movie” expansion that builds on the prior releases with an epic ending. Most stories are 95% build up as far as I can see. People love the buildup to something if it’s delivered right.

If they had two teams(which they sound like they do), one for LS, and one for the expansion sized content that they release in chunks. They could begin a season with an expansion and then havethe other team take over to do the weekly cycles while the expansion team works for the next 9-12 motnhs.

This game really need it. I was 3 month absent in GW and catched up in one night all the content and 3 new LS episodes…
My personal top 10 this game needs:
- new skills: elite, utility, maybe modify on weapons or all weapons av. for each class
- guild halls
- GvG, I would accept GvG in form of 10-15 WvW on smaller maps with maps designed for teamwork
- Hero Ascent team PvP
- expand WvW – its great but it stucked long time ago, need heavy support to became something GW2 would really shine for years
- new dungeons
- mounts
- Cantha
- raids
- new legendary weapons / armors

The main reason Living Story will not deliver it in time – MONEY
They need huge money boost to kick this game to another level. No way they will be able to do that anytime soon without expansion.
Why this works? Check SWTOR – latest expansion bringed thousands of players back, there was moment you couldn’t buy new expansion coz the payment system was overflooded. It was not cheap and expansion was not so big but still players knew its the only way this game will move on, and it moved, alive and kicking now.

Not a bad idea,as long as they don’t stop the LS flow,a big chunk of content from time to time would be nice, but if they stop the LS or the 2 weeks…well a montly release would be good as well, that would have a negative impact on the game.

I just want to see some content not catered to the 9-5 Dad that only plays 2 hours a week.

I think that’s my ( and quite a few others ) main issue with the game; that there’s little-to-no challenge. And the few areas that even remotely require players donning their thinking caps, are less rewarding than just spamming 1 in some zerg. If ANet opens up Cantha, or Elona, or even the rest of Tyria with more of the same issues that’s been repeated here on the forums and reddit hundreds of times the past two years; yes, people will eat through the content, and be back here kittening about it.

On a serious note…yea stuff seems to be easy but the rewards you get fit the difficulty level.
Gw2 was never focused on hardcore content….you don’t go in a theme park to do math…not sure yet if it’s a good thing or a bad thing.

Way back when I was in high school, we took a class physics trip to Six Flags. We had a massive assignment to do wherein we had to calculate rate of acceleration and the amount of Gs a ride produced. So yeah, we actually did go to a theme park to do math. Literally.

BUT WHAT I SAY IS :
We don’t need it delivered in big chunks 1 time a year or 2 times a year.

It all depends on what TYPE of content it will provide. LS season 1 provided temporary content that could be enjoyed as a whole community, as in zergs, but left people who took a break or new players out. LS season 2 so far has only provided us with a boring story and 2 maps that are only there to add grinding to the game. The feature patches that were released along with it were only a way to show the players that they can actually do “work”, but if that “work” was actually something the players wanted/needed wasn’t even considered, so it left a bad taste in our mouths (looking at the megaservers, trait rework and NPE). Feature path 2 actually promoted HUGE changes to WvW, but the only thing that changed was that we can now use different coloured commander tags and have a new trap. The other “improvement” to WvW was the EotM map that isn’t used for what it was intended for (queue map and for testing new WvW features) and is solely used for karma farming and levelling up characters. PvP has got the reward tracks, which is nice, but with the last changes it has been changed into a game mode that prefers pre-made teams (not sure if this still the case, since the devs have been working on making this system more fair to the solo players among us). It also lacks new game modes that it desperately needs. PvE has gotten the most, but also the least, this season. In season 1 Anet added new 1 permanent dungeon path at the cost of another and 2 temporary dungeon(path)s. They also added new fractals in the form of chunks of the temporary dungeons at the cost of a fractal reset. Further there we’re some changes to pre-existing maps and the additions of the Southsun Cove map. While in season 2, dungeons and fractals were completely thrown off the table and the only content PvE got were maps with the intentions to be grinded and an extension to the personal story system.

Now about an expansion and Anet. What I’ve read in the topics going around here is that people want expansion worth of content, which most of has been discussed in CDI topics. They want GvG, guild halls, mount, new races, new skills coupled with new weapons, new classes, new continents, new dungeons, raids, stuff from GW1, etc. Most of the things they asked for are stuff that the LS just does not deliver or makes it impossible to deliver without a big amount of developing time. While I think most Anet devs would love to deliver these to us, they are severely limited by the higher ups in the company (which can cause misdirected rage against the devs instead of the people actually making you mad). The state of the game is also a complete mystery to the public because of the company policy.

So while I would love to see new content, I would much rather see we could decide what kind of content that would be, LS wise or expansion wise. Both content delivery methods can work, if it brought the content we actually wanted. You can argue with me about this post, but remember it’s just my view on what I’m seeing here, so please respect my view as I’ll respect yours.

Really, if they’d just give us a developer roadmap, and about 20 more armor and weapons sets, each, i’d be happy with that. I don’t need new areas or bosses any faster than what they already have, but i do need more shinies, as the old ones are beginning to lose their luster.

I always thought that the reason people desire an expansion more than anything is because they want to make this game popular again. Not that it’s a bad thing but aside from new skills/races/terrain/classes/others, what would an expansion offer that the Living Story could not on it’s own?

And even if an expansion does come out, I can almost predict the people going to say that “Vanilla GW2 is teh best!!111”

One thing is for sure. What is happening right now in gw2 is hurting the game. Thats evident from the NCsoft reports on Anets quarterly income.

While it’s true that revenue has been on a steady decline, what evidence do you have that this is due to player unhappiness with content produced?

Listens to the crickets, whose noise sounds an awful lot like, “Everyone knows that.”

So, I’ll expand. What evidence do you have that proves that declining revenue is not due to other factors, like: ANet focusing on the China release for half the year (which revenue is shown in a different place in the financial docs); players leaving due to dissatisfaction with other aspects of GW2 (like poor PvP: that’s why most of my old GW alliance left); or even lack of interesting items in the store?

No. You have no evidence. You just want to believe it’s lack of an expansion, because an expansion is what you want.

I’m not asking for “hardcore” content. Just more with some spice to it. More of the open-world bosses in Dry Top that actually pose somewhat of a threat, and more enemies like those that pack a punch in the Silverwastes will do this game some good. I’m hoping ANet continues down the road they’re going as far as the increasing of difficulty of trash, and bosses. Just a little more and I honestly feel they’ll hit a happy medium.

What I want out of this game is simply that feeling of being epic. I am a Hero. I saved the whole land and smashed a dragon. I brought races together and knitted old disagreement into new binding accords.

I don’t want to be the most epically dressed Hero in Tyria. It might turn out that my rather flamboyant cuffs with their gold and lace trim, coupled with my rakishly tilted top hat that becomes a roguish and quizzical mien, makes me the best dressed Asuran ever to grace the presence of Lord Fabulou….Faren.

However, I want that to be a consequence or side event to the fact that what I have done has reverberated throughout the land and heavens and made this plane a better place. In short, I don’t want to play Wardrobe Wars.

Now I know there are a lot of people that will chime in and say that the cosmetic element to this game is basically its End Game…. etc, etc. The reason for these forums is simply to allow a player to advise on the way they would like the game direction to take. I don’t expect a U-turn in game philosophy, maybe just a small drift or veer to the left.

TLDR: More Epic. Less Wardrobe Wars (moar wardrobe, just less Wardrobe Wars2). Darker writing.

Question: No idea how it works, but is it possible for a publisher/game company to increase the rating of a game, from PG to M say, after release? Or is it impossible? Some more adult writing would be awesome.

No. You have no evidence. You just want to believe it’s lack of an expansion, because an expansion is what you want.

An expansion is what many people, as cited by a massive poll taken on the gw2 community. I think its very reasonable to suggest a decline is sales is people losing interest in the game because the living story doesn’t provide enough content. There are several threads on the forum and reddit about this, and they have only gathered more since Season 2 has come to an end. Why? Because people were more open minded at the beginning of Season 2, like myself.

Anet makes money greatly from gemstore sales. Those are closely knit with the living story. Having those go down over a quarter or so that the living story is out can say a lot of things. One of those things is probably that people have lost interest in gw2 because the living story wasn’t as interesting as they though, so they don’t log in as much, so they don’t see the sales as much.

Frequent breaks, releases only including a 45 minute story instance, recycled holiday content. Thats sort of a recipe for disappointment. Especially within the last month, all those things have happened and you can sorta feel the tension in the community because of it.

See, the problem with your wish is that it’s like one of mine – I wish Dark Souls 2 were a lot harder in dynamic ways.

The reason? I’ve gotten so good at it at is present difficulties that it is no longer much challenge to me.

Why it’s a trouble idea? Then pretty much nobody that hasn’t clocked my thousand plus hours on it at my level of proficiency won’t really be able to play it at all.

People of all skill levels need to be able to function adequately in at least most of the content. That’s not negotiable unless tanking the entire game is a welcome problem.

In dark souls 2, I’ve got my ways of increasing the difficulty, though they just don’t work for me much anymore.

Here? Just amongst my own friends, there are a growing number that just won’t do anything on South Shore because it’s very solo unfriendly and even In of the opinion that karka are joke mobs made by someone who was very angry at players that day.

Drytop and the wastes seem much better designed to me, but I still know some that hate it out there, and a few others that love it.

I like them, honestly, but I don’t like that my more casual friends feel left behind by everything to do with all of it.

They outnumber my non casual friends by a lot.

Making everything ‘just a little harder’ wouldn’t help many, because the harder things get, the fewer there are that like them and want it like that.

“karka are joke mobs made by someone who was very angry at players that day.”

I get this feeling all too often. Its like the mobs in Arah that drop, and keep dropping, TONS of conditions on you, more so than what your entire party can cleanse. Sometimes, i even feel like they purposely make content to kill melee classes all the more quicker, without considering what abilities we have to survive.

I then look at the forums and think, and here is why its like that. If i got as much flak on my forums about a game i put my heart and soul into, i’m sure i’d make some seriously stupid-cheap mobs to kill players with too. Not only that, but everyone is like “WE NEED HARDCORE!” when there is plenty of hardcore in this game. You wanna be hardcore, then solo EVERY dungeon in the game, including a level 50 fractal. If you can do that, then you’re the hardest of the hardcore that every hardcored their way through a hardcore game. And while you are at, it get Dragon rank in sPvP and 10k WvW rank, along with each and every legendary. Then, and only then will i even think of considering you hardcore…or South Korean. Whichever comes first.

I like good, cheap fun with my friends. As long as Anet doesn’t kill that, i’ll keep donating to the gemgate store on a weekly basis.

hmm I disagree with that. The new maps are really well thinked and I know it means lot of work for dev team. Good job with that! Its really another level of game map developing. Dry Top could keep you attracted for a long time and Silverwastes can do that too. Its multilevel masterpiece if you really explored it good and pay attention to details. Dynamic Events work very well – these maps are best achiev of last year.

The problem is we need something more than that and much more faster. So it means ArenaNet need to hire another good dev teams to deliver. Team for dungeons, team for fractals, big team for WvW, hardcore team for GvG, team for Guild Halls, team for new pvp maps, etc.

You can deliver that if you have money to pay those people for they work. There is already good team for story, pve map creating and excellent team for graphics and new 3d models. But thats not enough to keep such big project as GW2 alive for years.

Thats why I think expansion would be such a financial boost to pay those ppl.

What expansion should bring? I will repeat myself. Things that are vital to the game and asked not only in forums but in game chat, guild chat, reddit, etc.
- new dungeons and fractals
- new elite skills, utility skills and new weapons or weapons mods that change single weapon skill
- Guild Halls
- GvG – my suggestion: WvW for 10-15 players on smaller maps (guild halls?) with many objectives, forcing teamwork, npcs, etc.
- improved sPvP – my suggestion: new Hero Ascent mode for team PvP (5-6 players), existing maps for solo PvP (random) + new maps
- mounts
- WvW is so unique and great that its a shame how its developing. This mode needs epic team that can unleash its potential. WvW looks so deserted, last season was sad, ppl are bored to the bone. WvW needs attention!
- legendary weapons were goal for players for a long time, why not make another legendary weapons and armors?
- hardcore difficulity content for best players. Something you need try for several hours in good team to complete. Elite instance with extreme level of difficulity with acc bound elite rewards (awarded only once with normal chest afterwards?)
- and kitten – make weapons dyeable…

I would be less harsh on them about an expansion if only the world had something new for me to discover that i didnt play, see or interact with.
The world is far too small and the areas that are level 80 are just 2 if u exclude dry top and silverwastes….

hmm I disagree with that.

I agree. Anet did some great things with the latest lvl 80 maps. Yet the things mentioned above are really worth an expansion. I would gladly buy it!!

Just to begin with … +1 for expansion pls

The reason I feel that an expansion is needed is because the living story hasn’t been able to deliver the common features that people are asking for.

While the living story does move the story forward (at what feels like a snails pace, imo ofc) it lacks the other features of an expansion.

Having story content spread out so far makes it impossible to stay interested in. This for me is emphasized in the recent smaller episodes. Personally (<— key word there!) I would much rather have an epic large release of new story that i can experience with new weapons and skills which we can dive into and get immersed.

I almost feel like the rest of the game (classes, weapons, skills, dungeons, pvp, wvw … etc blah blah) has been largely ignored to focus on living story and i (again personally!) think that its time for an expansion.

In a perfect world the LS would lead to an expansion announcement, though unfortunately, i doubt it will. I’d LOVE to be proven wrong though! pretty pls Anet

I’m talking in regards to new weapons, skills, dungeons, PvP modes etc. But yes ofc, it has delivered some features like the new maps and fractals (both of which i love btw!). Though (to me) it hasn’t been such a huge amount of content that i would want them to carry on with the content development in its current form.

Objectively was correct. I also gave the LS a serious chance at supplanting an expansion. I supported Anet’s decision to rework how they released the updates. But the Living Story, in now its second form, is not the answer . Too much is being left out. Unless LS3 is piggy-backed with a steady diet of new skills, the introduction of new eaces and classes, raids, guild halls, a new continent (notice I didn’t say one or two new zones) and new character progression I don’t see anything improving.

Handful. I don’t think this word means what you think it does. A very large amount of players want expansion level content. Living story has not delivered anything substantial to meet those requirements.

Dear ArenaNET,

I can see the forest, and it is beautiful. Please keep on track and wear ear muffs. When the great demanding masses see it all come together, those who matter will get it.. And those who don’t.. don’t matter. I believe in the vision of Mr. O’, and am old enough to have the patience to see it through.

90% of the demands, requests, etc. I see on the forum make me fear that the leads might take them seriosusly.

Players have asked for new skills - can you point them out?

Players have asked for at least one new class to play - can you point this out?

Players have asked to play a new race - Can you point this out?

Players have asked for new dungeons - can you show me the way? I can’t seem to find it.

Players have asked for new crafting disciplines - Can you point this out?

Players have asked for new weapons to use - Can you point this out?

Players have asked for precursor crafting - Have you made any yet?

Players have asked for a new continent to experience - Can you give us directions?

Your turn to bestow on us, the “very vocal individuals” the features we have all asked for which were delivered.

No, i want alot of what he’s listed too, and it’s not here yet. It’s no good pointing out that he can’t speak for someone when what he has said is correct, those things are wanted by many. Especially precursor crafting, i’ve made 4 legendaries for myself, and one for a freind, and precursor crafting is much preferable to buying of tp or waiting for a drop, It was said somewhere that it was in the pipeline, but not seen it yet…

As for other points? i agree with them all, the game is two years old, give it something new that isn’t JUST living story..

well, technically, an entire season of living story is like an expansion

but they should do something at least similar to an expansion other than new zone and the tiniest upgrade

at least a new class and race, 2+years and basically nothing new :/

but they probably want to make the new content relative to the story before releasing it, even though most people dont care (and the few who do are probably rarely going to mention it)

still, something more major than 1 new zone and a set of new armors would be nice

I don’t care if it’s packed into an expansion, but I want to have new features that fundamentally change the game.

1) open world zones without waypoints
2) building houses and guild halls in said open world
3) crafting and delivering packs in said open world
4) PVP in said open world to steal packs
5) seas and sailing with packs
6) new skills and the ability to actually customize your skill bar
7) dual or tripleclassing
8) ability to wear any armor on any character
9) NPC heroes/henchmen
10) challenging dungeons for more than 5 players
11) players actually PERMANENTLY determining the outcome of live events and being able to pick sides (more players siding with scarlet and choosing not to defend lion’s arch? it’s burned down PERMANENTLY)
12) Being able to pick an actual side (including the dark factions) and build reputation with your faction and having unique content per faction

At the moment the only 3 things I enjoy about guild wars 2 are the targetless combat system, the wardrobe and the lack of subscription fee. The rest is just dull and boring.

Expansion is coming 2015? Everything we would like to see next year is:
- 3 new continent
- new races
- new classes
- new skills
- new WvWvW things (expansion of map, new type of forts, ships?, new types of siege)
- new legendary weapons, armors(…)
- 3 x more content that is now

Whats your expectation? Will anet bring huge expansion to us finally?

fwiw…

posted yesterday by reddit user keirbhaltair

http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2qv15n/today_guild_wars_2_is_as_old_as_guild_wars_1_was/

“This is not meant to be a rant, but at the same time I won’t force myself to sound overly excited. You might think that this is an unfair comparison, that GW1: Prophecies wasn’t as big a game as GW2 is, that it wasn’t persistent and that it didn’t have semi-regular updates. Or you might think this is an unfair comparison because GW1’s development team was much smaller, because the game was significantly less well known and because it had guild halls and GvG battles to begin with. Or you might be somewhere in the middle and think the comparison is just fine.

Either way, it’s currently 855 days since Guild Wars 2’s launch that just sounds like a jubilee, doesn’kitten, so let’s try to review how Guild Wars evolved in that period of time. Most importantly, it launched 3 boxed expansions, 2 of which were stand-alone campaigns, in total adding:
•4 playable professions
•863 learnable skills, bringing the total to 1319
•161 armor sets per gender
•Hundreds of weapon skins (I’m not going to count those…), and the unique weapons
•~110 overworld maps, almost tripling the original explorable landmass
•18 dungeons
•3 storylines with 44 story missions
•11 challenge missions, titan quests and 5–6 elite missions
•2 PvP game types (Alliance Battles and the competitive missions Fort Aspenwood and The Jade Quarry )
•Heroes
•Hard mode and vanquishing
•Annual Halloween, Wintersday, Canthan New Year and Dragon Festival special events, along with several smaller annual events
•Hall of Monuments
•Miniatures, mostly from birthday gifts
•Titles
•Alliances
•Many minigames, including Polymock, The Norn Fighting Tournament, Dwarven brawling and Rollerbeetle Racing

And to top it off, a sequel was announced by then…

Guild Wars 2 is a great game, there’s no doubt about that; after all, if I didn’t think so, I wouldn’t be here 2 years and 4 months after the game’s release. But I am genuinely surprised by how little it has evolved since then compared to its predecessor. Sure, we got many quality of life changes, 3 new maps, guild missions, EotM, 2 healing skills per profession and a bit of a new story, but it still doesn’t feel like that much.

I don’t want to be that guy who starts talking about the tengu, Cantha and expansions, but, you know, maybe, just maybe, it’s about time something huge happened to the game, bigger than an expansion, and this time for real."

If an expansion is added, I would request that it not do any of the following:

1. Add a higher level cap.
2. Add new classes (new races are OK).
3. Interact with the current maps in any way.
4. Be required to own in order to continue to PvP or WvW.

OpenWorld do not work on gw2 mechanics, so sandbox elements are out of the equation as for the other points will never happen once again game mechanics its more limited than mostly think, they can barelly support a full guild for tekqualt event on the same distric.

About skills and traits, i find Anet hard to give a good number of good skills/traits becouse would ment balance something wich i believe they dont like to touch, for some reason game lacks of skills compared with gw1 and yet most stuff is not touched becouse does not work when playing, or class has a flavour of the month build due how imbalanced it becomes until other class gains the flavour of the month.

Unless ANet had a team improving game engine itself over this 2 years, what will come in future will more of less the same of what we already have, they cant release something different out of thin air.

1st April joke, when gw2 receives a “balance” update.

here is an idea i got for WVW….what about summoning? like being able to capture big monsters and using them in WVW to aid us in war. you know? stuff like that, i honestly want grand scale wars….and if you want to take PVP into the real competitive field, i dont think charging gems for war equipment is logical =/…for somethings yea sure, but its a tricky thing. i honestly want WVW to turn into something grand, something epic.

EDIT: if we get the new race of birds (forgot the name), then you guys NEED to add a flying mechanic to the game, obviously NOT an overpowered one, but we would need it….we are dealing with a bird-like race and it would be beyond disapointing to not add flying. also a great implementation to WVW would be aerial combat, and use of the MANY technologies in the game of which we have NO contact with….ever.

There are a million great ideas for WvW because of all the potential it has. Sadly I don’t think Anet supports it considering no content has been made for it in a year.
