Feedback/Questions: Legendaries in Wardrobe
Yeah I can’t wait to dual wield Frostfang on my ranger, and my Necro and Warrior will also be able to have the skin
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
As someone working on a legendary, can I just say that this thread contains a fabulous amount of bullkitten?
Will this change stop me from making Kudzu? No. Because I want Kudzu. Simple as that. Either you want(ed) a legendary or not. It’s literally impossible to take every possible future change into account when making one. Do you take your six-month-old TV back to the shop because hey, there’s something better on the market now and it was “all for nothing”?
I’m assuming no, you don’t. Same here. You made the legendary/legendaries you have because you wanted them at that specific point in time, and it was entirely up to you to spend time and possibly money on it. People need to realise that just because something is digital doesn’t make it any less than something you can touch. If you spent money to buy your precursor, it was your choice. Like it’s your choice to buy a book you might not like or a DVD that might suck. Please keep that in mind.
Now, also remember that no-one is taking anything away from you. Every toon running around with a legendary (skin) has a player behind the keyboard who took the time and effort to make it. That is not negated by the fact that you might be able to transfer the skin to a second weapon and keep the actual legendary intact. You can’t play two characters at once, so the number of legendaries present at any given time is still the actual number of legendaries in the game, if so many players even choose to play every toon with the exact same skin. The legendary (skin) still shows that, yes, you made this thing (or bought it and farmed for it), you earned it. I repeat: Nothing gets taken away from you. Those comments sound like the one rich kid on the schoolyard who got a fancy shirt, and then Walmart starts selling them, too, so everyone has them and boohoo, I’m not special anymore!
Which is utterly ridiculous, anyway, since those people without a legendary won’t magically get one now. The change will just make duplicates obsolete. And how many players actually have duplicates? As in, actual numbers; yelling “I have!” loudly on the forums doesn’t count for this one. It’s the tiniest part of the player base. The majority will probably rejoice and design away.
Oh, and if you’re about to tell me that you have duplicates and personally oppose this change, anyway, first think about this: If an itty-bitty small group of players you are not part of were to oppose a change that would benefit the majority of players, whom you are part of, wouldn’t you say that’s ricidulous, and that something that’s an awesome change for most people shouldn’t be put on hold because a small group of people doesn’t like it?

Sucks to be anyone who has sold Eternity lately. Lost the chance at two skins
Yes, I’m sure they’re crying into their pile of 4000 gold.
You can only use the skin. And why not? If you worked your butt off to make one why cant you enjoy the graphic on all your toons?
The stats stay with one skin, and its for Level 80. So what if you can dual wield the incinerator? One will have stats and the other will have the stats of the exotic, rare or whatever you put the skin over.
ITs not a big deal people.
Nobody cares about the stat swapping, it was the skin and prestige that every person who has a legendary worked for. I don’t know why people keep trying to use that argument.
I’ve used the stat switching on my legendaries multiple times. I still will. It was definitely the idea that I could have any stat spread I need for all my builds, and the fact that it will always be best in slot for the rest of the games life that sold me on it, in addition to the skin.
I never had to do any ascended weapon crafting since I have legendaries for all weapon possibilities on my main.

What are you smoking? The answer is Time and Efforts. As simple as that.
And if you are not able to understand that, I won’t even bother to argue with you. Who cares if other people get awesome stuff like you got, but the stuff you worked so hard turned into such a huge waste of time that you won’t even need it ( stats change) just not worth it.
(edited by Vanguard.9381)
Changing stats is why I crafted/willcraft legendaries. In fact I’m finally going to feel brave enough to skin my legendaries knowing I can skin them back. A toon with full legendaries often doesn’t match a theme, because all the legendaries are themed differently. Now you can theme all your legendaries on a character. I can now picture my mesmer with all dragon jade skinned legendaries it’s exciting!
It’s all about inventory space
I sort of think people are overracting to this, just a tad.
People who own multiple legendaries are already compensated. They retain their BiS stats. They retain the swappable ooc stat option.
So people will have the skin available to their other characters. They still lack all the desired functionality of the actual legendary. Which half the purpose for having it.
On the other hand, I am sure there are people that made legendaries for their BiS promise and stat swapping, and promptly transmuted the look to something else because they thought they were absolutely horrendous to look at.

Or you could just make several ascended weapons for a fraction of the cost of a legendary and skin over them. People who made two of a legendary for the skins are having that devalued. For example if we make a couple of ascended weapons and skin over them that is at least for 2.5k price difference, for bolt, for no loss in functionality when you consider how often you can actually take advantage of stat swapping , and the fact that you can have different sigils on those gives even more functionality.
We aren’t asking for a change to the wardrobe system, but we are asking that anet consider compensation for this change if they won’t retain the value with the new system.

Insults. Very mature.
Besides, how do “time and effort” get “taken away” from you? I can repeat myself again if you like, but you made the decision to make one or more legendaries. Nobody forced you, you knew what you were getting into. And I still fail to see how you lose anything because people (who already have legendaries) can use the skin on another weapon now. Could somebody please explain how “using a skin on something else” translates into “wasting time and effort”? Because you KEEP THE EFFING LEGENDARY. You don’t lose anything. You didn’t “lose” time and effort because you invested said time and effort for a certain X. You got that certain X, in this case, the legendary, which also goes for duplicates. Again, I don’t see any kind of loss here because you got exactly what you wanted, and you will keep it in the future.
Also, where did I write that I get “awesome stuff”? If you’re referring to the wardrobe, we all get that. Including you. If you’re referring to something else, I have no clue what it is.

Losing that is normal though in MMOs.
ArenaNet, keep in mind that the vast majority of players stand to benefit from this change to legendaries and you should keep it as it is. Provide compensation for duplicates (unbind all but one like the upcoming dye change). Under no circumstances should you exclude legendaries from the wardrobe.
Hi, from this point onwards, if you want to reply, please understand the topic of this thread. The original title was changed, but if you want to know the problem here, it is to the people who have duplicate legendaries and felt the wardrobe system is unfair.
If you want to comment on the BiS system, please DO NOT. We are talking about one legendary holders having unlimited amounts of that skin. Therefore making one incinerator holder appear to have two, while original dual incinerator holders feel like their second incinerator (obviously made for looks) is devalued as they worked much harder for the second.
If you are a person with one or no legendaries, please refrain from bashing people with multiple legendaries. If you have only one legendary of each type, great, but us duplicate holders feel that it shouldn’t be an unfair approach towards this when one incinerator holder can wield two of the same skin.

The thread might have started like that, but that’s because it left out that the person with 2 of the same legendary still has BiS even if another tier is added later, and switchable stats, while someone with just 1 and skins does not have this. YOU might now have made a 2nd of the same legendary for the BiS and switchable stats, but it doesn’t give you the right to act like EVERYONE with 2 of the same feels that this is unfair.

Are legendarys along with all other weapons going to be just plain skins now? Does that mean I can just put my sunrise on my warrior, mesmer and guardian? If that’s the case I’m not exactly sure what the point of an legendary is.
Shouldnt they feel unique and deserved? Not being unlimited copies like zenith weapons..

Pretty much everyone did. Everyone who came here to voice their opinions on the actual issue, ie people who actually have the second, duplicate legendary currently, came because they feel as though it was devalued. I’ve seen MAYBE one person say they care more about BiS. Sure, it’s a factor, but it’s not the reason for the discussion. Valkyrie was entirely right, his points were fair, and I would bet a large amount of money that 90% of the people in our position made their decision for the skin, not for the guaranteed BiS/switch ability.
Edit: Also, the BiS/switch stats doesn’t address people who owned 2 highly expensive but non-legendary skins, ie two Infinite Lights on a warrior or mesmer. This person had no reason to anticipate such a drastic move to devalue their effort, and they don’t even have the ‘yeah well you can still have best stats and swap them’ factor. This update, though primarily a great move, does a great disservice to dedicated players.

Would you be satisfied if ArenaNet offered compensation? For example unbinding one of your incinerators so you get the option to either resell it or reequip it if you like the stat-change option?
If not, offer a suggestion as to what would make you (or any duplicate legendary owner) happy.
Stat swapping is a joke, having multiple ascended weapons is cheaper and more functional because of sigils. Stat swapping is garbage compared to the cost of the skin.
Please stop using this argument. We can apply the same argument to 800g Infinite Light and it fails.
So, you are saying that 800g Infinite Light should also not be part of this wardrobe function? What about cheaper skins? Where would the barrier be? At 750g? 500g? Is a 100g skin set too costly and/or too prestigious to allow wardrobe duplication?
Personally, i think that having costly skins (and yes, legendaries as well) in the wardrobe and being able to duplicate them on your alts is a good move.
I understand that people that bought multiples of the same legendary can be disappointed that they sunk a lot of cash in objects that may seem redundant (to them – to me ability to select stats is worth a lot and goes beyond simple convenience). There is a simple solution to that problem – make the patch unequip and unbind all the legendaries. Unlocking skins would bind them again, of course, but people with multiples would have an option of selling those they don’t need anymore.
Remember, remember, 15th of November

Similarly, you don’t have the right to talk down to people who value the legendaries for the skins and not the stat swapping. Over and over other players have pointed out that we can still switch the stats on our three thousand gold offhand weapon, and over and over we have answered that we built duplicate legendaries for the cosmetic value and not for “BiS.”
The best solution to this will be if they un-bind all legendary weapons with this patch. That way everyone can decide which legendaries to re-bind (thereby unlocking the skin) and which to sell.
One could make the same argument for Black Lion exchange skins or really expensive exotics (such as Volcanus), but that creates a grey area, so it’s probably best to only un-bind legendary weapons.
Now that I think about it, duplicate purchases of gem store skins should be refunded too.

Pretty sure that a lot of us players with 2 of the same feel cheated, so he speaks for the majority of us. I’m pretty sure that had we known this patch was coming, we would have definately saved the gold or spent it on other things. The entire purpose of a legendary to many of us is the skin, the abillity to switch the stats and always be best in slot is just an added bonus, and that added bonus alone is NOT worth the gold we spent on the 2nd legendary. Why hasn’t anet commented on this yet? Seems like a large number of players are upset over this issue.

Personally, yes, I think this would be a fair solution. However, I am honestly surprised that they chose to include legendaries in the wardrobe system at all. Making them account-bound but wardrobe-exempt would be perfectly reasonable and allow players to swap them between characters to their hearts’ content, while maintaining the relative scarcity that makes them feel like true prestige items.

Yaaaaaaaa, that isn’t a grey line at all. So the people who made multiple legendaries are higher priority than the people who made multiple wings of dwayna, volcanus, etc?

A lot of people are concerned about legendaries no longer being special. A lot of people feel cheated for making 2 of the same legendaries. Here is a proposal that may or may not address the issues:
Part 1: My solution to legendaries is to allow them to be in the wardrobe. HOWEVER, copies of the legendary will NOT provide an aura or footprints. They will still have the weapon trail or special projectile. . If anet wishes to do so, they can even go as far as taking away the weapon trail and special projectiles so you are left with nothing more than just a simple weapon skin.
This solution allows people to tell if you are holding a real legendary or simply a copy. You can still feel special knowing you are holding a crafted legendary vs. a copy. This solution also benefits people who have made the same legendary twice but are using then on different toons. It will also provide an incentive to crafting a duplicate legendary vs. simply making a wadrobe copy. I think this is a fair compromise to people who can’t afford the time and money to craft a duplicate legendary but still want one on their alt.
Part 2: Addition to part one (above) , people dual wielding the same legendary on a single toon will have an enhanced/larger aura/footprints (similar to how Eternity users get a larger aura & bigger footprint).
This basically sets up 3 categories of dual wielders
1) People dual wielding wardrobe copies = have no aura or footprints = lulz
2) People wielding 1 real legendary and 1 copy = normal current special effects
3) People dual wielding 2 real legendaries = enhanced special effects that sets them apart
Please comment on my proposal. It seems to address a majority of the concerns that people have over legendaries and it avoids dealing with reimbursements/refunds which may be unfair to certain people.

Copied legendary skins just have the look and none of the added sparkles (foot prints, lightning effect, unicorns).
simular to when you currently transmute a legendary onto a lower rank item

This is too much work for a problem with a simple solution.
The right answer to this problem is unbinding the doubles/triples. This way Anet offer people with more than one of the same legendary the opportunity to sell or keep them if they like the whole “stat switch”
Once again, there is more to gain than there is to loose, don`t make Anet back off on something great.
Arc DLad, some sort of additional effect for dual wielders seems like a very interesting idea. it wouldn’t involve changing the character-bound status, it wouldn’t affect others being apply to apply 1 skin to 2 items on the same character.. this might be something worthwhile to do!

I have a problem with Part 1, a skin has particle effects, I assume you accounted for that. An incinerator spits out fire, normal. But ONLY the mainhand would show footprints. What would this be if you keep the copy on your offhand? The fire will still spit as removing particle effects entirely from a Sunrise or Twilight would just make it a Scarlet’s Rainbow look on the blade?

That solution works but it doesn’t address the fact that everyone and the their grandma’s dog will be running legendaries. There will be nothing to separate real legendaries from copies.

I’m not too familiar with all the special effects that come with each legendary so I apologize for that. Anet doesn’t have to take away all the special effects of a legendary (such as weapon trail on Sunrise/Twilight or special projectiles on Dreamer).
Wardrobe copies of incinerator will still maintain its “spit out fire” effect but will not provide footprints. Real incinerators will provide footprints regardless if it is on the main-hand or offhand. Dual wielding real incinerators will give an enhanced effect.

It just wouldn’t be fair to enable this option for Legendary Weapons or any other Weapons. There are alot people who made 2x Bolt, 2x Incinerator, 2x Quip, etc. So now imagine the hard work they did. Enabling a person who just made 1x Bolt to have 2x Bolt after this patch would just be unfair. Legendary Weapons are special in this game so ArenaNet think good about the move that you gonna make…
I honestly propose that you are NOT allowed to dual wield copies, only allowed to one hand them. If you want to dual wield copies, you must have at least 2 of the same kind of weapon. This resolves most issues.
Now if this isn’t a good enough change, we could propose the unbind all dual legendaries from soul/acc option.
The Eternity is a bit problematic still, as soulbinding both Twilight and Sunrise, then crafting Eternity to sell, should remove Twilight and Sunrise IF the system detects that NO Eternity, Twilight or Sunrise exists on the account. As the wardrobe is just a collection of skins that were once bounded and somehow removed, this is just an exploit for thousands of people to gain easy 4000g and still retain the Twilight and Sunrise skins.

I know what you mean, but all these people running around with legendaries worked for it, whatever they are using it on their warrior, or guardian, they still worked for it.
A lot of people with legendaries don’t like playing alt because they invested so much time on their skins. the only difference now is we`re going to see them with their legendaries on different classes, but it`s still only 1 person.
I hope people realize that doesn`t mean more people will be running around with legendaries, it`s the same amount only on different toons wielding them.
(edited by Trice.4598)
Just give people with duplicate legendaries the abillity to select a new legendary to be bound to them of equal or less value(So no swapping a quip for an eternity). That way, the market isn’t flooded with legendaries and those that think spending all that hardwork and time was worth the abillity to change stats, they can just select the same legendary and nothing will have changed. This also prevents many people from getting 1-3k gold and messing with the “Gw2 economy”. Sounds reasonable to me at least.
I’m probably the only one here who feels this way but i personally don’t want legendary’s skin to become acc bound. I feel like it would devalue legendaries a lot. I’m working on my first, yes first legendary, and this just made me want to quit.

I know what you’re talking about too. I have a Sunrise on my Guardian and would love to have one on my ranger. With my proposed solution, I would still be able to make a copy of my Sunrise and give it to my Ranger. The only difference is that the copy won’t have all the special effects that the real Sunrise on my Guardian has. The copied Sunrise will still have particle effects that allow it to stand out from other weapons but at the same time will lack subtle effects that only the real legendaries will have. I think this is a fair compromise to people who can’t afford the time and money to craft a duplicate legendary but still want one on their alt.
Can we stop saying “just un-bind the second one/duplicate”? The markets for these weapons have supply of 10-15. You are expecting hundreds of players to get weapons back that they will have no reason NOT to sell and the market to not fall apart? Hundreds of these hit the TP all once, and there are not enough people buying legendaries straight up to compensate. The market would be ruined for months.
TL;DR – un-binding is not a solution. Think of the markets.
I agree that unbinding legendaries would be the best solution for those who have made multiples.
I for one am excited about the change; it gives me incentive to go out and make multiple legendaries now that I will be able to share the skin between my alts.

Ok, clearly (and clearly english isn’t my main language so don’t flame on something that has nothing to do with topic thanks) there is a contraversal situation here. People with 2 same legendary skin feel their 2nd unvalued. On the other hand people with as many kitten and more skins are greatly welcoming this feature.
Let’s have something clear, the wardrobe isn’t about unvaluing the 2nd legendary skin of anyone, it’s about having the possibility to have the same skin over more then oneequipment. People stating that this feature is just unfair clearly don’t understand the meaning behind all this feature ANet built.
Yes it may be quite a hit for dual wielders to ‘feel’ their 2nd skin unvalued. But think about all the others, would you rather have everyone cut off this awesome feature or have these guys in anyway ‘compansated’. I, by all means, don’t want to start an argument with someone that has no place here on this forum. But I ask of everyone to try and look at the 2 sides of the medal here.
I for one, would enjoy this feature, not only for my legendary skins, but for plenty of other skins that are pretty expensive and I’d like on other caracters. I think about foefire weapon, volcanus, fractal weapons ( I know they are account bound, but skins can’t be used to many weapons ), even more the halloween item forever stuck on one caracter.

I know it may hurt dual wielder, and I understand why, but Trice is right, the weight is unmesurable. There is SO much more to win then there is to lose. Please consider before having ANet remove a beautiful and awesome feature in this game.

To start off I’d like to mention that I own several legendaries but no duplicates. I believe the upcoming change will devalue the rarity and prestige of all expensive skins(exotic, ascended & legendary) and there should be compensation across the board. I think that if the system was already in place many buyers would reconsider some of their purchases. Because of this, I feel that all weapons regardless of price should be unbound. Anet should be giving the player the option and given the casual atmosphere of the game I do not believe this is an outrageous demand.
I for one like this change. I have 12 characters. 3 legendaries on my main. It took me about 4 months in total to craft them, and being able to use them on all my characters will definitely motivate me towards crafting more legendaries in the future.
Maybe Arenanet could do something like offering you a non-bound legendary back if you have 2 of the same.
Legendaries haven’t been prestigious since 2-3 months after launch.

Hello Guys\gals, I am very very excited for this update. I have 2 bolts right now, we need to remember a few things.
1. We will always have best in class ( if they ever add a new tier we will always have the best)
2. The legendary has to be equipped, so not everyone gets legendary skins
3. selectable stats
4. Alts now get the skin ( So Awesome )
I do not expect to get anything back (refund) Nor do I want one.
This just means my many alts with swords will get the same skin.
just my 2 beans..
Now, also remember that no-one is taking anything away from you.
Exactly. This, a billion times, this.
The only simple solution to this Is unbind all legendaries, that way people can sell their duplicates and bind the ones they want.
Seriously, I can’t help but feel extremely bad at those who made 2 incinerators for example. 500 hours wasted!

Honestly, it is not really a cut when it hasn’t even happened yet. So rather changing the idea of a legendary just being an unlockable skin when you make one, just don’t issue the legendaries being inside the wardrobe in the upcoming feature pack UNTIL a final decision is made. We’re not cutting this feature, we’re pointing out a FLAW, for dual wielded weapons. Go enjoy the feature with your Juggernaut or your Eternity, be my guest, as you can only show ONE at a time. If you have multiple sets, well, no one runs around with both weapon sets as GS or Hammer.
The thing is: Why should people with 1 incinerator be benefited solely, it doesn’t make sense, it’s childs play here, if you work for 1, you display 1 at a time, if you work for 2, you show 2 at a time, this is common logic and it won’t devalue the idea of dual wield legendaries. People who worked for ONE should NOT be able to show two, ONLY ONE. People who worked for TWO can show BOTH.
As dual wield weapons include Bolt and Incin, they could issue an exchange, without damaging the economy heavily.

That is exactly how I see it, I can understand how dual wielders can feel their 2nd ‘unvalued’, but there is, as I said earlier, much more to win then to lose here.
And for people thinking this will lower prestige for everyone in the game, you are wrong, it won’t. Only people that bought legendary or made legendary will be able to skin them over alts. Not anyone, so no weapons won’t be seen everywhere on the screen. Still 1 account for the skin. Unless you can dual log and I am unaware of this, that means only 1 at a time on the screen.
