Feedback/Questions: Legendaries in Wardrobe
All I see in this thread are people whining and wanting to cash in. None of you has a valid argument. You obviously thought it was worth making two items exactly the same. You still have them. Nothing has changed except now you can use it MORE. Oh noooooeeeeesss!!!! Pu-lease. I feel the salivation dripping from those just waiting for all their legendaries to get unbound so they can make a killing by selling them.
You are losing nothing. The change costs you nothing. Your argument is invalid in every way.
This…It was why I was going to just stop looking at and posting in the thread. But I really don’t want to make it seem like there is no opposition to it.

Clearly this is invalid. If it was so bad and insignificent, Anet would have replied 200 replies ago. They realize that there is this issue, and they are trying to make everyone happy. Please stop being disrespectful and just wait for an official update(if any) and not criticize this niche gamer society. We are addressing an issue that seems illogical, we don’t need your comments to flood this thread.
I don’t need a compensation, I just want the system to treat all dual wielders more fairly, with the ONE dual wield weapon, ONE display concept.

I also don’t get most of the uproar here myself. I have 1 Incinerator and I could pretty much finish the second one right now if I chose to. I absolutely love the idea that I’ll be able to use the skin on any of my characters, and I do not think anyone should be punished (such as the skin not having footfalls or an aura) just because a few people don’t like it. For everyone that has dual legendaries, you’ll still have the best stats & stat swapping on both.
If the reaction to the town clothes debacle has taught us anything, it’s that the community wants more choices & options, not less.

So any opposition to a bad idea is being disrespectful and shouldn’t be in a thread that was changed to being about ALL LEGENDARIES IN THE WARDROBE. This thread is no longer just about people with 2 of the same legendaries.
Edit: I could also use your exact words against you, maybe if it wasn’t insignificant it wouldn’t have been merged into a thread about all legendaries in the wardrobe and would have stayed just about people with 2 of the same.

Agree. ^^
And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?

I’m fine with that. People in the forums seem to always want COMPENSATION for some unreasonable, wholly made-up ANet infraction on their ever-so-precious time and effort.
My point stands. They made something. They still have exactly that something. Not one thing is being taken from them. For what exactly should they be compensated?
Oh hey, I made Sunrise a few months back and if I had known that 6 months later this was gonna happen I never would have sold it for 2000 gold. I want my legendary back, cuz I feel cheated. Does NO ONE see the irony here?? Seriously???
You made the 2nd legendary by your own choice. You still have it. There is nothing to complain about.

The way he presented his opposition was disrespectful. You’ll notice that other posters have managed to present your side of the discussion without resorting to sarcasm and accusations.

Very well said , this is a good change on all accounts.
As someone said above this will encourage more and more people to go for legendaries, i know a lot of people who don’t want to go for an incinerator right now because they feel if they go for one they have to get the second which they deemed to be too much work with this change they will go for it.
Current and future legendaries will be more sought after thanx to this patch.

The only simple solution to this Is unbind all legendaries, that way people can sell their duplicates and bind the ones they want.
Why do you need them all unbound just to sell the duplicates?
Unbind just the duplicates and call it a day.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

You will wait for a long time than. It’s the same thing as a fractal reset. As long as majority is happy, Anet will omit the small percentage. At least you will still have something to show for your hard work. Two legendary status items in each hand. Us fractal players don’t have anything to show for it.
Regardless don’t expect to get any kind of compensation when it’s for something that benefits majority of players. I’m not saying it’s right, I’m just saying that’s from experience with Anet, I wouldn’t hold my breath.
I’m super excited about this. I’m actually interested in making another legendary now since it won’t be locked to a single character that a) I may get tired of playing or b) that weapon may become nonviable on that character due to meta changes.

They want compensation because someone else will have something that they have. The enjoyment is not derived from the items themselves, but from other people NOT having the items. This is the core of the issue in this thread. Others have tried to point it out by mentioning that the original owners of 2x are not losing anything, but you can see how that went.

unfortunately: this.
Having watched pages and pages of complaints by fractal runners amount to absolutely no response (and even getting reprimanded by some devs for asking for responses)….ANET cares about the majority, not the vocal minority…and their usual response to things that affect minority players is to tell them “we are gathering feedback” and letting them rant for days and days….and never responding until it eventually fades away or the forum gets locked….
I have seen many threads where “we are gathering feedback” means you will get no dev response ever.
People have been wanting to have account bound legendaries since release. This is the closest we have come. Dont make then change their mind and remove the skin from the wardrobe… Please…
Its a much better fix to just make it so one character can only have ONE legendary skin at once, unless crafted 2. So i only have 1 incinerator, which means i can only use the skin one time on every single of my characters. (of course, if i destroy my dagger i can take it out again, but only one skin at a time)
This way we would still get account bound skins, yet fix the problems with people making several of the same legendary

A mad scientist patented a revolutionary zero-dollar way to clone personal dinosaurs with 2 million dollar fee per dinosaur.
Person A had 4 million dollars. Person B had 4 million dollars.
Person A bought 2 personal dinosaurs. Person B bought 1 personal dinosaur.
A week later, the mad scientist decided that the restriction is per person and not per dinosaur.
Now Person A has 2 personal dinosaurs and 0 dollars in his pocket. Person B has 2 personal dinosaurs and 2 million dollars in his pocket.
So, how is this “exactly the same”?

In many ways this is superior to account bound legendaries since you dont have to throw it in the bank and grab your next character and take it….you can just apply the skin to multiple characters.
Dear Anet simple solution is this. Reset/unsoulbind all legendary weapon so that the ones who made 2x same legendary can sell the other one. Problem solve no more rage!
The changes are appreciated by most people and the community is happy about the changes however, there is ofcourse people who would feel that it is unfair feeling due to the fact they worked for something, they feel is lost now.
It is a bit normal with MMOs though with such changes, games usually sacrafice some aspects to go for the next step and I am sure all those people would be happy if the game took a wonderful direction from here on becase all those are more or less, player-suggested updates.
At the end of the day, hope people get some kind of a compensation, so everyone will be happy happy and have a nice christmas … while when it is christmas.

Simple, Person A and person B are the same in that they each voluntarily entered into the transaction at the time under the original terms.
the way i see it still, anet has been developing this Wardrobe system since the account-Wallet patch update (months ago) and most likely had a ton of pre-production meetings for this new system prior to starting work on it. They are now like only a couple or so weeks away from going live with this new Wardrobe patch, it’s too late to make any big changes to the system.
They clearly most likely would also have discussed this exact issue in their meetings. It’s just unfortunate that a minority “niche” of the player community will be left disappointed, but at the end of the day, it’s an MMO business, and you can never make everyone happy as hard as you try to. They need to go with the majority, and this new Wardrobe system is a great great feature and really well done, it caters to the majority of the community and pleases lots.
They have probably over 4million players now, out of that you have probably just a couple thousand players that own a legendary… and out of that tiny pool you probably only have a thousand players that are dual-wield characters (sword/focus, d/d, axe/warhorn, etc)… and out of this narrowed pool you have your duplicate-weapon dual-wielders.
And finally out of that super tiny narrowed down pool of players, only like a few hundred will actually come and read the forums/patch notes and respond.
They won’t go out of the way just to keep this tiny tiny niche of players satisfied. It’s just too much work for them and doesn’t make very much sense business wise.
It’s too bad this new system will probably make Legendaries loose some of it’s coveted significance and value, but it’s a excellent new system that will be a crucial part for the future of the game’s success.

I have to say, I really like this change. Legendaries are pretty much just a prestige item, kind of like titles. That stat changing effect is nice, but ultimately useless. Since legendaries are just a show of grinding either the money for the legendary or the actual making of it, or even just buying it with cash to gold, I don’t see any issue with it at all.
However, I do believe something should be done for those who had made 2 identical legendaries, maybe unbind them so they could sell the spare or maybe give them the option to split up the thing so they could sell a precursor and buy another to make another legendary instantly; maybe not either of those, but something.
Edit: and yeah, it’s not like everyone is going to instantly give every character they can the legendary.

I’m just going to add something different to this back and forth discussion. I have a Bifrost on my mesmer. I also have an ele, a necro and a guardian. That’s all well and good as now I can equip all of them with Bifrosts. No complaints from my end.
What I do want to point out though, is just because I have the option, doesn’t mean I’m going to deck all my characters in legendaries and build around that. Bifrost would look ridiculous on my necro as I dressed her in a dark theme and a Scythe or Sunless staff is much more fitting. My elementalist is a d/d user and I won’t change to a staff ele just to show off I have a Bifrost. I do use staff occasionally on my guardian so yeah I could equip her.
Again, this is NOT a complaint post. I’m very happy and excited for this change for the entire playerbase. Just trying to offer a point of view from a player like myself and that Tyria is not suddenly going to be flooded with legendaries if there are people like me out there.
The system would not break if they just had a limit to how many dual wield skins you can apply according to how many of that legendary you have. So you can only get one bolt per character from the transmutation charge system. If you have two bolts, they they would let you dual wield the bolt skins, be it both exotic, on all characters.
As many people innocently pointed out, you don’t have more legendaries than you have, you just have it spanned all across your account, in exotic form. But the fact that when you make one bolt and can dual wield when you only made one, that is broken, and unjustifiable by any reasons above, if anet wants to create a game like SRO where everything keeps getting more and more unfair (despite it being in bot form), then it really is a “let players leave GW2” tactic.

But, you are talking about development time to implement what you are asking since this ability isn’t in the game yet (there is nothing in the game that currently differentiates different dual-wield combos limiting one thing or another in them).
Anything requiring serious development time will require 2-3 months of work…ergo, not going to happen before April 15th.
If you want to leave constructive options for ANET, try and think of things that are already in the game that can be accomplished with a minimum of development work.
Examples: We know they can un-soulbind items. They have done it before. We know they can change one item for another (but only in an all or nothing capacity…for example when they switched magicfind). We know they can convert soul-bound to acccountbound…through a vendor…they have done this before with mining picks and axes. This last one requires some dev-work, but might not be terrible, since they can theoretically use the same mining pick vendor and just re-code what it carries….I don’t know though…might still take too much time.
Try and think around terms that can be accomplished in a short amount of time (prior to April 15th patch) and you may see better response from Devs.
I’m super excited about this. I’m actually interested in making another legendary now since it won’t be locked to a single character that a) I may get tired of playing or b) that weapon may become nonviable on that character due to meta changes.
This is my thought. I never even had the guts to soulbind the one legendary I made because it seemed such a colossal waste to have “spent” that much on one item that only one character can use, ever. Now with the new system I might be tempted to actually make a legendary and even equip it!!

The minority will leave the majority will stay , i will in fact say that this could potentially even bring more people to the game.

thehipone gets it. Bravo sir, bravo.
Saying “well if I had the power of seeing the future, I wouldn’t have done it” does not grant you the right to compensation. I bought a car on payments when I had job “x”. Shortly after, my boss sold out and now I have job “y” at a lower pay. Can’t take the car back because life happened. I obviously wanted it when I bought it, now I have to live with the payments. That a good enough analogy for you?
If you can only change stats on your main’s legendary and not your alts, then what is the point. Getting a legendary should be a personal goal, not a character goal, in which case making it account bound would make sense, and taking all the benefits of it’s full glory should go across every character, not just one. And it’s still only one person that has the legendary, they’re just using it in different characters now instead of just one.
Now for people who have more than one legendaries of the same kind, it’s simple, Anet should unbind the ones you don’t need so you can sell it on the tp. Now you’re rich again, and you can start doing the process for another legendary.
This change is good, and just because people think that legendaries will lose their value, shouldn’t change the course that this system is giving us.
And legendaries are still, and will remain even after the patch, the hardest item to get in game.
I’m super excited about this. I’m actually interested in making another legendary now since it won’t be locked to a single character that a) I may get tired of playing or b) that weapon may become nonviable on that character due to meta changes.

Agreed. This system introduces much needed flexibility and generally makes legendaries more desirable, which is good from the perspective of increasing playing interest and investment in the game. I also understand the frustration that this creates on the part of people who made two of the same legendary for the purpose of having two of the same skin, and who would not have done it if they had known they would eventually be able to have two of the same skin by making just one legendary. It makes it seem like a wasted effort.
On the other hand, everything you do in this game will some day amount to a wasted effort, because some day in the future, this game will no longer be running. If you will only be happy if the things you acquire in this game stay just as they are forever, the best thing to do is not to play, because they WILL some day be gone. When and how they are lost may vary, but they will be lost.
Conclusion: Play the game for the enjoyment of it, because that enjoyment is the only thing you will ultimately get to keep. If you are looking for a way to safely invest your time in a creation that will exist in perpetuity, online gaming has a rather poor track record in that regard.
Uproar. Uproar.
Just imagine a world where alts level 1 have an Eternity at fine level.
Or a person who JUST made ONE bolt wielding two immediately.
How about the people who made 2 incinerators in the past? All their efforts wasted if they went in for the skins.
Wouldn’t this devalue the motion of making a legendary if you can just skin them? Also the people who have 4 incinerators or 2 bolts or any dual wielded identical legendaries, striking these people who worked hundreds of hours or spending thousands of gold so they look different, now everyone who made 1 incinerator can immediately visually get 2 provided that they pay the price of transmutation?
Not going to go through the whole thread but going to add my 2c since I was thinking about this exact thing last night.
The exact thoughts were “hey! I could just make an ascended dagger and trans….oh wait that doesn’t matter because what I care about is the stat selection”.
As for looking different
… DON’T get a legendary
… DON’T get cultural armor, certainly not a full set
I occasionally use the candy cane hammer when I feel like using a hammer. It is thousands of times cheaper but also thousands of time less common than the legendary. I bet the wooden sword mentioned in the blog post is also rare compared to bolt.
I would argue getting a fractal or Tequatl weapon is harder than a legendary. To get a legendary, I can plop down a credit card. To get a tequatl or fractal weapon (specific one) means playing countless fractal levels and defeating tequatl hundreds of times until the right weapon drops….I’ve done literally thousands of fractals spending much more time in there than in gathering the materials for my legendary, without finding certain fractal weapons that I want (namely, staff, sheild and axe).
geesh same thing happens when something is on sale 2 for 1$, everyone who bought 1 for 1 is getting ripped off essentially
Thank you Anet for coming up with the wardrobe and legendary skins. This is really pushing me towards making another legendary. Also, I don’t get why people are complain about this, you aren’t losing anything towards this, this change costs you nothing. All of this arguing is illogical and most of these arguments are invalid in every way.
ANET ruined legendaries when they allowed them to be sold
Moving on…

People really, really want to be special snowflakes. Personally, I don’t see the problem. More customization usually isn’t a bad thing.
The dual wielding issue is a very easy fix. Just make it so that you have to actually buy two copies of a weapon to actually dual wield it. Problem solved. That’s not unfair to anyone and just common sense.
This change is very exciting for 90% of people with legendaries. I have two, and am excited even though I do not plan to put them on all my characters including a fine version on my lvl 2
I suspect it will cost more transmutation charges for skins of purple rarity, and of course, will not come with ascended mutable stats (as said).
If you made two of the same legend, that sucks, but you a) lose nothing b) got to enjoy those two skins for the past X amount of time while no one else had them c) live with the decision to do so – I regret dearly vending lord knows how many stacks of silk (and a million other things of this nature).
I have a friend who made his second incin last week. He was kind of bummed, but the excitement about being able to share all his skins across characters (he has 4 or so legends and lots of gem store skins) outweighed the time lost on 2nd incin.
Game changes are always going to have some downsides, but I am more excited for this patch than anything that has come out! Being able to collect all the skins and customize looks across alts with ease will be very satisfying!
Its still 2 legendaries on your thief nothing has changed.
I don’t care if they are purple, orange, yellow, or green, I care about the skin and the cost involved in getting what was supposed to be a very rare skin. I’d have been quite happy just getting the skin, and having to apply it to a weapon that I already owned, much like gem store skins already are. Which is what most of us did originally, when they had crappy stats that no one wanted and you weren’t able to choose.

Best answer so far.

I doubt this is as easy a fix as you think, but, yes, this would be ideal.
The majority of players will welcome this change which is all that matters really.
I have a bolt , inci, sunrise and minstrel , working on the juggernaut needless to say i have spent a lot of hrs crafting them so there is no reason i should NOT be able to enjoy them on all my toons , absolutely none.
Not all of us have the time to do 10 map completions just to make duplicates for our different toons ( some of us do have jobs and a life as crazy as that must sound ) so great stuff Anet you’re making 99% of your community happy with this upcoming change.
I can’t believe you are going to cry about not having time to make duplicate legendaries when you just admitted that you are working on your 5th legendary.
The superiority complex coming from the dual incinerator people in this thread is thick.
Unstable Shield, Unstable Light
I’ve used the stat switching on my legendaries multiple times. I still will. It was definitely the idea that I could have any stat spread I need for all my builds, and the fact that it will always be best in slot for the rest of the games life that sold me on it, in addition to the skin.
I never had to do any ascended weapon crafting since I have legendaries for all weapon possibilities on my main.
If you have to switch stats to beat any content, except for maybe wvw, you need to learn to play.
If anything that petition shows just how small a minority this actually is, only 12 signatures.

That solution works but it doesn’t address the fact that everyone and the their grandma’s dog will be running legendaries.
If by “everyone and their grandma” you mean people that already had legendaries, then yes, i agree.
The number of people with legendaries will not change. In fact, it would not change in any significant way even if the “unbind duplicates” solution went into effect – we’re talking about a really tiny minority here. Having the number of people with legendaries increase by 1% (and i am being generous here) would be completely unnoticeable to the crowd at large.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
The superiority complex coming from the dual incinerator people in this thread is thick.
It’s not a “superiority complex,” it’s the fact that we wanted matching daggers, swords, pistols, what-have-you badly enough that we went out there and we earned ourselves matching Incinerators or Bolts or Quips. On the other hand, the people with a single Incinerator wanted a second one badly enough that they did nothing until news of this change broke, and then refused to understand where the opposition is coming from.
What I don’t understand is why this is an actual issue for some people…
If you made two 1h legendaries, then you should be aware that your two original creations are still 100% unique in the fact that you can change their stats at any time.
Only the people who 1) spent the time to create the legendary or 2) spent a ridiculous amount of money will be able to use the skins. It’s like an extra reward for being so patient…what’s the dealio?
If they ended up making the legendaries account bound rather than soulbound would you still be so ticked? People could just stick them in their bank when they go to hop onto a different character and, VOILA!, a second character is a special little snowflake too…right?
Is it the fear that a lvl5 character will be running around with Bifrost or, god forbid, Eternity? What would that even matter? It’s still the creator/buyer of a legendary.
Is it the fear that the prices of the legendaries may decrease? You’re not going to be selling yours, so what’s the problem?
