You know I didn’t like the idea of the megaservers at first but after playing one it’s not bad. It’s nice to see others a lot more often than I used to.

I noticed that on JQ, I got paired with the servers we were matched with in WvW, so I think that’s one of the things taken into consideration.

Yes, I’d like to add on to this. Hey Dev’s, you purposefully created worlds to build friction an animosity between groups of players in WvW. Now you are tossing us all together in a map. What do you think the outcome is going to be? Have you never read a match up thread? Heck, you removed all discussion of WvW matches because of the hate in them. What do you think map chat is going to be like now??? Last night I was on a predominately BG map. Where players were saying TC, as a server, should be dissolved. That every player on TC should be perma banned too.

I understand the games population has fallen. That having so many instances running at once wastes resources and cost Anet money. Though, you can’t expect to put players together haphazardly. Nor, give us a chance to choose our own “comfortable level” of players to play with.

Another issue with the whole Mega Server system is that it is a huge PvE nerf economically. I bought an open world MMORPG to play in an open world setting. Not to be forced into an instance (fotm/dunegons) to keep up with inflation.

For those praising the Mega Server just because there are people around, you could have guested to one of the high pop servers at any time. For those that liked the wilderness feeling, that doesn’t exist anymore with so many players running around. Please give us a chance to choose our OWN “comfortable level” of players to play with.

Lastly, removed the contested status from way points all together. It never made sense, at all, to waste our resources (time) to have to run all around when there’s a WP right where we want to be. For immersion, WP’ing into a hot zone is much more appealing than spending a minute running. Just have a different symbol and colored border around a wp to signify a hot zone. Having a symbol and color are for those whom are color blind.

I’ll give props for the thought of a mega server but, it needs work. Wish players had some input before it went live.

This is probably a stupid question, but I’ll ask anyway.

My experience with MegaServer so far:
Yesterday I wanted to show a guildie my new armor look. I told him I was in Divinity’s Reach. He waypointed to Divinity’s Reach…and couldn’t find me. Hm…I guess he was in a different instance.

We tried joining party together, he waypointed out and back in… still no luck. Couldn’t get on the same instance. Eventually, I had to move to a different zone, then he had to follow me to that zone, then we finally ended up on the same map.

So, my question – How are parties meant to get onto the same instance together when the system puts them in different instances? The old system allowed me to right-click and join them in their instance, but the MegaServer does not appear to offer that functionality. Are we just supposed to zone out and back in over and over in hopes that we’ll get lucky?

How much worse will that be when our guild gets 50 people together to do guild missions? How in the world are we all going to get on the same map together?

I would like an option at log in to not be in mega servers.

Why?

I do not roleplay, I dont want to see salad porn either. And im sure they dont want to see me as well.

Our server had scheduled times to do temples (Anet, your mega server map list is incomplete). Now, when we just tried to do them at our normal scheduled time, we got blocked out of all temples.

Trolls, rude people and such from other servers.

What little sense of community my server had left, was just destroyed in one quick swoop by Mega Server.

My best guess would be, with so many doing the temples now, that is throwing your schedule off. Though I do agree, last night I ended up just sitting idle at Lyssa for almost 3 hrs waiting. Because the Temples, atm, get nuked in a blink of any eye. Even Karka Queen last but a minute or two. So it’s difficult to actually do the events.

Here is a solution. When someone goes to a new map a window pops up giving them a choice to go to their server map or the megaserver map. Next to each choice will indicate the current population of each map to help them in their decision.

From what i was able to observe, the only consideration that is in effect now is in equalizing the numbers of players across all already existing MS instances of that zone. Server, language, group, guilds, friends – all seems to be completely ignored at the moment.

There were issues yesterday with different versions of the game too. After I updated, I was unable to play with anyone in my party or guild who hadn’t yet updated.

today still, was dooing a wurm run and got disconnected again. (since MS at least once a day, shortly after login) but when i connected again, i was on a different server, inside the wurm belly, after he spit them out, so had t try to survive there till next “yummy phase”.

so far the only good thing about the feature pack is the wardrobe – the transmutation cost.

The megaserver has made things worse/impossible for:
- native server communities and server pride
- world-boss communities (feedback from TxS, feedback from the Deso GW2 community)
- Guild missions for large guilds
- the roleplayers
- calls for WvW support in mapchat or advertizing WvW events in mapchat
- guild recruitment
- players with weaker computers (lagfests, FPS slideshows, disconnects, client crashes have made the game unplayable for some)

Most of the problems have to do with not being able to get everyone from your guild or alliance into the same instance (and on time for whatever you’re gathering for).

It’s cool if you’re a solo player with little interest in the community, a player unwilling to pay for a transfer to a higher-pop server, or if you’re just levelling up, roaming, and not really planning to take part in anything organized on a larger scale. I’m sure the game feels fresh then. Old-timers who have spent time and effort on building a community of some sorts, however, got stiffed.

Tell ’em sister.

We were better before with the old proper dynamic events, proper seperated servers, and the guesting system. People on both sides of the fence who wanted either more people around or wanted to get away from the masses always had a choice to pop one of their daily guest passes. Kill the megaservers or atleast make it optional but please give us back our old servers and overflows for all maps as standard.

Oh yeah and there’s a lot more lag, as in network latency higher ping etc, since the patch on tuesday especially durring peak times.

What she said and a little more

my pc is not high gamma, its a mid less / mid gamma, i play with a mix of best performance with a higher resolution’s and when i find zerg(almost every time now) i put best performance and i struggle to keep connected, i’m full of lag(with 100mb internet connection) and sometimes my game client frozzes… So i wonder what is the game right now to the players that have minimum requirements to run this game..

THANK YOU ANET!! for take all of my fun in playing this game if till now what keep me playing this game was doing world boss with TxS alliance now doing an attempt with them or with randoms ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO ME!! For some of your players in EU we have REAL LIFE!! some of us need to study, sleep, work, or even have and want to spent time with their family’s…

You want my feedback? read this topic, read the topics that Lannah post here and fix this thing…

Till then i will be playing GW1 or not…

Here’s some suggestions of how to make the MegaServer work in practice as well as it does in theory.

First of all, the only way a system like this will allow communities and friendships to form is if I can join a friend, party, or guild on a map intentionally, with 100% reliability. Meeting people is great. Seeing the same faces is great. But when I get to know someone and want to play with them, I HAVE to be able to do that without fail. You can’t make planned meetings and play times rely on the random chance of ending up on the same instance.

So how do you do that? By exposing MegaServer info to the player, and allowing them to choose the instance they want manually. You can still offer the option of bypassing the choice and simply entering the map in whatever instance the megaserver chooses.

Add a new tab to the contacts/LFG window. This tab will allow you to select a zone, and will then list all current instances of that zone (with population displayed for each instance in some way…like low/medium/high/locked). Each instance in the list would show the number of servermates, guildmates, party members, and friends that currently occupy that instance.

Selecting a particular instance from the list would expand it and show the account names (in expandable tree format) of the servermates, guildmates, party members, and friends so that you can see specifically who you know in the instance.

Make a button for “join selected instance”.

This way, people who want to end up on the map with their friends, guild, or just a nice person they met yesterday will be able to do so 100% of the time. If it happens that the people they want to meet are in a full instance…they will know right away and can work out a map move with their mates.

Second suggestion would be allowing people to create a new type of group, which would work similarly to the way zoning into dungeons works now. If I join a party and someone in the party enters a dungeon, I get a popup asking if I would like to join my party in the dungeon.

Allow a player to create a “map group”, and select a target map. They would create the group, select whether to invite specific account names, the people in their party, or everyone in their guild. The selected people would then get a popup asking if they want to join the map group created by player_X, with a timer (say countdown 60 seconds). When the 60 seconds is up, everyone who joined the map group is zoned into the selected zone AS A GROUP. Let Megaserver balance things and place the whole “map group” together in an appropriate instance all at once.

If you implement these two suggestions on top of the current MegaServer system, it will be much closer to a working system, and I think most people would be happy with it.

Again, the regular functionality would remain…if someone didn’t wish to choose a specific instance, they could simply waypoint to the zone and let MegaServer do its thing like it does now.

Megaserver in Orr is one of the best things to happen to that place. There’s actually people there now! If you don’t like the temples staying open you can spend a bit of gold and skill points at a trainer and unlock them that way.

How to perform a daily event, if the temple is open all the time?

Need a PvP team to kill those who protect temples

This is hilarious! When are we going to start seeing people/guilds keeping temples open 24/7 on purpose in order to “grief” those who need skills? I’d say pretty soon.

I’m tired…
Really tired…
Your <@#$!?> Skynet took everything from me… Now i can’t RP, i can’t PvE, i can’t relax playing your game. I can’t even zone. Instead, i get “Out of Memory” and “Direct X Error” crashes, especially during peak hours. My PC can’t handle 800+ players simultaneously.

So i……suggest for the….sorry, i’ve lost count :

  • Manual Instance Selection, showing the number of players for each one
  • Skynet feature On/Off
  • If the On/Off feature isn’t possible, Skynet OFF the main cities / Starting Zones.
  • RP Flag
  • Language Priority (Yes, i’m tired not understanding a word people say)
  • Guild Priority
  • Friends / Party Priority
(Wait, we were supposed to get those last two, but we didn’t…)
  • Lesser people in one instance (Zerg are not good)
  • Dynamic Events, Not fixed ones

And last but not least?

  • A king sized ham and bacon pizza.

I really don’t care if you think that your players’ IQ is worse than a Dolyak’s, but each change you make in your game is stated as “We want to make the game simpler to understand for new players.”

So i have to ask : How does Skynet makes the game “simpler” to a new player who makes the mistake to try the game at this state?

What’s the “real” goal behind all this, A-net? Is this a hidden server merge? Are you going to get rid of all current servers eventually when Skynet settles in everywhere, and not daring to tell the truth to the players? Are you in the same boat as Paragon Studios used to be? Be honest with us please, as all this doesn’t make any sense. You simply break your game in the worst possible way…

@Runeblade : Sure, let them keep it on the way it is… It’ll definitely bring the game to it’s knees.. It’s not that we don’t want the megaserver, we don’t want it the way it is now, as it’s basically broken in many ways…

Just doesn’t work. It was hard to get in the same server with my party and the experience was horrible. My framerate dropped so low I wanted to claw my eyes out, and the chat was filled with german, italian and everything else I don’t understand. I don’t care about more people being there to get world bosses down faster, the open world is no fun. The game has NO character whatsoever in this state. World bosses should be an enjoyable challenge, not an opportunity to press one and AFK for 5 minutes.

I feel really bad for the RP guilds who do gatherings and events—the one I used to play with actually made a point of guesting to deserted servers for a lot of things specifically so they wouldn’t be harassed by other players. Now they’re completely screwed if they want to run an event with more than five people.

You guys really ought to put in guild halls or something if you’re going to squish all the servers together like this. Give large groups a place to gather in peace without random players crashing the party.

So far it’s a nightmare for guilds to be put in the same instance.

Being with Guild mates should be the biggest priority in a game called Guild Wars 2 for grouping players in the same instance.

Please implement a way for players to move between instances easier! Like the way you could switch between Districts in Guild Wars 1 would be perfect.

quoting this and also want to add more:
-Putting too many ppl in a map is actually a bad idea. Everything becomes zergfest. There’re nothing for you to kill, no objective to do because they are done by 100+ other ppl.
-Temples are screwed so much with the megaserver. It is impossible to know when can you do temples.
-Gathering is screwed.
-Scheduled events are really bad. It defeats the purpose of “Dynamic” events. Also, by letting only 1 boss up at a time, you make it that everyone on every megaserver pouring into the same boss and it gets boring.

I really cant think of any thing good about megaserver.
Please revert back to the old system.

As an RPer, this system in its current form has truly damage the main sense of enjoyment I get from the game.

I like events, I enjoy the odd champ train. I’m glad Queensdale is so far unaffected (as far as I know, haven’t been on in a few hours so anything is possible), as I enjoy my servers banter and personalities. I put up with the (to me) kinda boring champ grind because it passes the time while chatting. While it will be great to have new people join the conversation, I don’t want to lose the chance to chew the fat with the great personalities and QD regulars who are there at the minute.

As a Roleplayer, I have seen an increase in the hustle and bustle of Black Citadel. That in itself is quite nice. But with that has come seemingly less RPers in my version as well as a notable increase in hostility towards roleplay from the new players I’m landed with. It is understandable. It is gameplay they don’t much care for, and haven’t encountered, by choice. They are now being exposed to roleplay and don’t want it, just as we are being exposed to increased hostilities.

Don’t get me wrong, I am by no means against the Megaserver concept. it is the appalling execution I am kittened about. Anet demonstrated at best misunderstanding and at worst willful ignorance at what it is to be an RPer in their interactions with us when announcing the feature. Just use the friendslist and guild up, the fellow said. Ignoring the dynamics of what roleplay is and how we organise ourselves. Not only that poor advice in light of who we are and what we do, that very inadequate little interaction has proven even more useless that the system seemingly takes no notice of such things and throws us all over the place.

The system was rushed through, with no real thought as to how to do it, and clearly not looking too much at the feedback before implementation. Until there was some guaranteed functionality that ensured people would be grouped together properly, this thing should have been nowhere near the live game.

And, even more worrying, is the trend away from player choice. Before we actively chose who we play with, with world selection. We could choose who we wanted to play with, and how to play with, and take steps to ensure we can get the most out of the choice. Away from megaservers for a moment, we could choose to wear townclothes as we wish, dyed and mixed. And now, Anet have decided they and some kittenpoor automated system knows more about what we like and want to do than we do. That is arrogant and more than a little condescending.

And to top it all off, this great community interaction Anet like to boast of, and in the very first days of the game was truly wonderful to see, has all but evaporated. I do not recall seeing any real engagement with us since before this released. We are talked to, being told how great everything is (going very nicely was their own phrase on farcebook), or just brushed aside and told to post elsewhere. Partly to avoid clutter on the forums, but also partly to make it look like there isn’t such an outcry as their is.

It comes down to two things ultimately. A premature system, that is great in concept, but needed a lot more work before it was released and absolutely needed an active choice on the part of the playerbase as to how they use it. The second is Anet’s transition from a community-friendly team to one that essentially dictates how we play because they absolutely and exclusively know best. I don’t like the system as it stands, and I definitely do not like this rather toxic attitude Anet seem to have acquired of late.

I actually do have constructive criticism:

Can we revert Lion’s Arch back to being server specific? It’s the main gathering place (or will be, once it’s rebuilt) and can help us maintain a server identity, since we’ll be able to meet there, and rally people to WvW from there, recruit people to guilds, and so on.

Keeping only one instance out of the megaserver isn’t a viable option. Cause you’ll simply be tossed to different instances once you leave LA. Guilds, parties, friends or anyone with you doesn’t matter, remember?

Oh, about the language problem:

Perhaps you could introduce a few more chat types? Similar to saychat/mapchat, which are green/red and which can be switched off. Make /de for mapchat in German, /it for Italian, /fr French, /esp Spanish… maybe give them tiny icons if you’ve run out of colours.. something like that, I dunno, work it out. Whoever doesn’t understand a specific language could then block that chat type. It would cut down on the bratwurst/baguette insults and peeps who don’t speak English might find it convenient as well. You’d need to ask them whether this would suit them.

This ofc wouldn’t do diddly for the problems associated with organizing 150 players who don’t have a language in common and getting them ready for wurm or even Tequatl, but it’s something.

Look I’ve seen mega-servers work, But this roll out so far is BROKEN!! if your going to do this there is a much easier way, as it is we have 100s of servers within a main area USA, EU right? well we don’t need all of those its just to many, I understand why a mega-server is needed and I have seen them work when done right, but the way this one has been rolled out is WRONG, what they needed to do was lang match up, in the EU one we have French, Spanish, German, Polish and so on. So mixing English people with French and German has never been and will never be a good thing, the Germans seem to like P-ing off the other players, the French actually sit and insult the English thinking the English to stupid to understand French (sorry but some of us DO know French so can read the racist insults), it is out right disgusting some of the things I’m reading from other players towards each other, with Germans sadly being the WORST! (that I find shocking!) followed closely by the Brits and who are followed even closer by the French! The only way a mega-servers is going to work is if you merge the servers of specific langs together, Even Microsoft on their Xbox’s worked that much out!
The Brits need to sadly be lumped in the US servers because we can not play with other people from the EU, and even then with in the EU the French and Germans are just as vile to each other. There is to much of a lang barrier with racism running amok on all sides that SOMETHING needs to be done.

Thank you for shaking up the game ,

Of the look of it, it seems A-Net has a cash flow problem….
Well, that happens if you only produce garbage!

You have succesfully achieved the folowing:

  • DESTROYING A BIG PART OF “THE LIVING WORLD CONCEPT”! *
You know the great plan which made Gw2 the shiny among MMO’s everywhere….

And In the process you also succeeded at:
- destroying boss farms, (not my biggest worry, but 3 of my friends already left because)
- destroying dungeon reruns, I do mind.
- destroying regular spawns of world bosses on a server bound schedule, I really hate it and it makes the game a lumbering monstrosity of too many player doing events My hex core i7 with 2 SLI-ed GTX 780’s and 32 gb or RAM amost had a frame freeze when I entered an event. 12 FPS… instead of 40-60FPS in a group fight (Oh… And 120+FPS in open world, but capped at 60)… I pity the laptop users… One of my guildies has a lot of fun at 6-12 FPS now she bought herserlf a laptop cooler… used to be 2-3, how she managed to get to lvl 80? Well I guess with pure determination, But she let me know she’s gonna do Smite for a while.
- Adding traveling costs, lets pay 2 times now I do not only pay for travels i need to bride the asura as well< else I might become the next fractal…
- making events not noticable except when you’re on map.
- bugging Orr,
- bugging all low level dungeons,
- create unbalanced sigils and runes,
- nerfing loot
- nerfing the MF when I put in a lvl 80 I want a lvl 80 back.
- destroying normal communication in Europe…
- destroying town clothing & giving the finger to RP-ers
- making half my guild leave for other game-destinations, because they are fed up with the brilliant ideas.
- Halving my possible pve daily achievements…
- Still not giving us permanent playabel content, dungeons, races, professions
- instead of paying 3 gold 20s to acces most of my traits I now need to go places and unlock things. Well how nice and utterly slow… I’m gonna leave y 2 extra slots empty and just use my 10 lvl 80’s from now. Why would I bother to do all those events I did 100 times before at strange hours. I do not want to be forced to play, “go do the karka queen and unlock trait XIII”…(the number is bad luck! You’ll notice.)
- Now, 600 days of playing left my warriors with ~1000 skillpoints and 15 gold is 2,5 maybe 3 hours of dungeons. Not a chance I’ll ever bother with the world events any more, as boxes and drops have been nerfed, I got 172 base MF and I’ll take my chances elsewhere…
- I pay 15 gold now per character to unlock all XIII traits… instead of 3 gold 20 for all traits,

Yes, I’m gonna be able to use my wardrobe but if my friends cannot see it, what’s the point. I got 736 dyes refunded Woo-hoo.
Well I gained a lot of ranks in wvw as well, Yippee…..
Instant trait reset , but the cost of the investment in traits is either too much time OR too much cash.
well refunding traits was 3s50 copper, lets make all skills a multiple to unlock.. Well that will show thenm who is ………. (just fill in something negative.)

But I cannot play PvE anymore as I wanted to play it…

Pls just remove the coupling of events and restore an old backup or something as this is just stupid.

Just give us
wardrobe, skills, the runes sigils and bugremoving overhaul and

Leave the World, well… the WorldS….

I’d rather be alone and PLAYING WHATEVER I WANT TO PLAY WHEN I WANT TO PLAY then with 150 ppl not enjoying the game asI cannot play the things i want to play, in a fashion it was never used to be, was not meant to be and shouldn’t be.

It feels like I started a game of chess and with the patch I got a (chinese?) checkers board in return…

23 lvl 80’s, 9 times map, 4ele, 4ncr, 3war, 3grd, 3rgr, 2thf, 2msm, 1eng, 1 rev.
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.

Would be really nice to play with my guildmates and server friends without the megaserver telling me “zone you are trying to join is full”.

It could be the path that kills the game GG Anet!

Im in agreement to the fact that Megaserver is a bad idea…
All my guildies have bad comments about it too!
Last night I experienced something I never beleived would happen—-
A group event shows up and there was a TUN of players; it just wasnt fun at all being so Many to complete the event. There was no challenge and Im a player that luvs a challenge! No challenge means no fun for me

That has nothing to do with the megaserver. It has always been that way. It is also that way for dungeons and fractals.

A suggestion for dealing with one of the issues people have brought up about playing with guild members for stuff like guild missions.

Extend the ‘Join on …’ option that you get when right clicking on a party member to the guild window. That way you can get everyone in your guild into the same instance without having to shuffle a bunch of different parties.

I guess the same should be done for the friend list as well.

Whelp, apart from the complaints about Orr and waypoints, I have to say this change is really painful for guilds. If a guild mission bugs out, it now propagates to everybody! So much for getting those done. Getting guildmates together for guild missions is terrible. Please make it like gw1 where we can at least pick a shard. Constantly grouping and ungrouping to ferry people is downright obnoxious. World boss fights are the most zergy things I’ve every seen. The world does feel like it’s populated. However, it is like it’s been populated by a rampaging group of zombies. Please reconsider this design. It makes me want to stop playing.

Wow, we’ve reverted to Guild Wars 2 – Release Day.

It’s August 28th, 2012 all over again! =D

This patch brought many great changes that I love, but I just can’t appreciate the megaserver bit. At all. The boss fights are no longer challenging or fun. You just stand around auto attacking because there are so many people that everything melts with no effort or strategy. I think the patch was supposed to make bosses tougher and more challenging? Haven’t really noticed that if it did. Because of all they people, they go down even faster than before. Sometimes it’s hard to even get a hit in so you get credit for an event. It has also destroyed the feeling of server community – instead of it being “hey, there’s that guy i fought beside the other day, we can team up again”, it’s “oh, look. massive amounts of people i’ve never seen before standing around waiting for a chest to drop.” It’s just disheartening and making me feel ‘meh’ about the game. My home server was a cozy, homey place before… and now it’s more like a subway station at rush hour. I like all the other changes, but please, give us our servers back. Or at least make the megaserver a selectable option, like guesting onto another server.

It’s been neat seeing the cities actually full of people.

That’s more or less the only decent thing though. Sense of community is gone, people are constantly yelling at each other in map chat because of WvW stuff, you now have to show up 20 minutes early to SB to not get overflowed into oblivion. Game performance has taken a big hit; things are laggy. I play this game on a beastly computer; I can run WvW on the highest possible settings and maintain 40+ fps while doing it, and this has quadrupaled all loading times.

That says nothing of the RP community getting obliterated.

they intentionally brought back the old problems with GW2 release without fixing them. The only well designed event for large groups that they have released was marrionette. Its odd that they would make systems that highlight their bugs/flaws. I could see if they redesigned all these events to actually work well with large goups, but they did not.

I want to ask…when i guest in blackgate server to do my pve stuff, am i really in blackgate? Reason I ask is I dont see many people. Infact, I see like 10% less people. Following the world boss time, I am running from WP to WP seeing if there is anyone doing them and there arent. I dont understand whats going on and still trying to figure it out. I say at this point, my satisfaction and motivation for this game is almost zero.

One other puzzling implication of this whole thing is the comment that the ANet devs made (regarding WvW, but still) that they want to boost server pride. And yet, they release a feature which removes all the elements from our server pride we have learn to know – that is, players that we recognize. Where is my pride for Gandara, if I don’t see any Gandarans around when I play?

having considered the problem for a bit, i have a suggestion of a possible solution to some (though definitely not all) of the problems.

Let’s think about how the situation looks now. Currently on any world boss events (and any similar content that is subject to sudden population shifts between zones – some of the past LS events come to mind as well) any prioritization, regardless of the criteria used, is futile. The zone usually starts with only one instance (near empty), which is filled on first come, first server basis, then the next instance spawns, which starts to get filled in oder of arrival as well, and so on, and so on. Prioritization simply doesn’t work if there aren’t any instances to choose from. If there’s only one instance that’s not full, then you will end in it no matter your language, server, guild or group.

Anet doesn’t seem to want to create guaranteed language-specific separate instances for EU spanish, french and german community. Even if they did, this would not solve the problems scattering server and guilds – and might result in near empty servers in case there wasn’t enough people to populate one.
Nor it is possible to automatically sort people out in other way than by order of arrival – the game doesn’t know how many people are going to show up in the next minute, and how many instances will be needed, after all.

But what, if such separate dedicated instances could be spawned dynamically when needed? Now, how it would work, you ask:

(for the sake of consistency, i will be assuming EU server. I realize that the NA servers do not have the language problem, but it helps ilustrate the idea, and the idea works for things beyond language only)

Imagine, that when you are in open world, somewhere on your screen (top of the ui, like the PvP buttons in the mist perhaps?) there are buttons representing your language and server. You arrive at the destination as usual, and end up in the normal Babylon. Everyone speaks in their own language, noone understand anyone else, the usual.
You click Language instance button, to queue for your (say, german) language. If there is an instance where your language is in majority, you get transported there. If there’s no space on any such instance (or one doesn’t even exist), you get queued until such a space appears.
Now, if the queue count gets past certain number (say, 60 players)… a new instance gets created and every one of them gets immediately transferred there. Additionally, that new instance gets locked for that specific language (german, again) for some time (or until its population count drops below a certain threshold) – newly arriving people from german servers will get placed there unless other priorities (server, guild, group) would override that. No other people can join until the lock is removed (with the sole exception of standard group taxi).

Or, instead, you could select your home server button, which would work exactly the same way, but using a home sever criteria.

Or you could create other buttons – for example RP. Obviously, there is no RP flag, so there would be no automatic joining. And possibly the population thresholds for RP instances might be set lower than for others. Or Guild – guild spawned instances, here i come (this would obviously require guilds of a certain minimum member count, and possibly even a researchable unlock – but not consumable – to enable that functonality).
[Edit: after additional thinking, the guild instances should either not have lockout for non-guild at all, or it should be really short, like few minutes – we don’t want to promote too much elitism]
This is a general suggestion – obviously, the threshold numbers would need to be finetuned, and there would be several edge cases that would need to be carefully considered. I am not going to claim either that it would be trivial to code – quite possibly it wouldn’t be. But IMO it would be a solution to some of the problems that appeared so far (assuming that Anet will not want to recode the whole MS engine from scratch, which is what they really should do).

Actions, not words.

Wow… this is interesting, in a negative way. I’m sure trolls will now start inciting players who are on different sides of a matchup pretty soon (or maybe already?). I can see it getting pretty bad because it’s so easy to troll in this way: “so, what does everyone think about server XXX?”

The main issue I have with the megaserver is that it simply exacerbates the unresolved issue with too many particle effects. I could barely tell what was going on when ten people were hitting a champion. Now I’m fighting alongside with 50+ people with particle effects flying all over the place that my screen literally looks like a mess of purple, red, and orange. I can’t see where I am, where the boss is, and what just killed me.

I like pretty much every other part of the new patch but the megaserver needs to be cancelled and sent back to the drawing board.

Technically they did have reason, the bottom 10-15 servers on NA where dead servers, but by doing the mega server they never had to admit it, because now they can say each map is full, the serious lack of reply from Anet on this topic is disturbing, its like they see 100 negative comments about it, and see 1 positive comment and run with the positive one and declare the new idea a success, they ignore its completely destroyed communities, some guilds, world events, the list goes on and on, will we getr a reply, I wouldn’t count on it to be honest, will they fix it, HELL NO because then they have to admit fault, remember folks you are testing these updates for the China release, as if its successful out there they don’t need us.

You would be amazed how messed up the game became after listening to the player-base and today GW2 is far more flawed thanks to those suggestions that set it behind and changed the philosphy behind the game.

People have to stop being ignorant and accept that GW2 isn’t about you or him or her, it is about a whole community and just becaue you see negative comments in the forums, doesn’t mean, the player-base think it is bad…no it means that GW2 forums are negative like they always are becasue people only come here to whine and other communities created for GW2 may have other reactions.

Yes, Anet make mistakes, yes, the mega-server may be a failure, but I want ot players, for once…just for once, that just because you think it is a failure doesn’t mean it is in reality and while you may not like it, there are those who are loving it.
