This has sucked the life out of open world areas and made it feel really generic. I liked the family feel of server. If I needed a boss train I could always guest to the kind of server I don’t want to be on.

I’m sitting at Vigil looking at a bunch of people I don’t know… just feels kinda empty. I used to like talking to lowbies and inviting them to join our WvW guild. Met some great folks and got to teach them a little about WvW. That’s gone now too.

Just popping in to say, while I understand most of your concerns, I prefer the megaserver system.

Honestly, I think that a guild flag to keep guilds together would solve all the problems I’m hearing here (RP, Guildmissions, etc.). Also, guild mission collaboration may work better as well (multiple guilds getting credit for guild missions they are all taking part in).

Besides that though, it’s much better for newer players, imo. I love it, and I’m a veteran of GW1 and GW2.

See yall later.

lets see:
-I dont want to be in error and recruit players from other server kicking them after the invite.
-I dont want to find guilds and players in pve i see in WvW on oposite faction/color.
-I dont want to mute/ disable the map chat becouse conversation created by language frontier or servers confrontation, also i cant talk about wvw in map chat becouse player from other servers will listen, must only talk in wvw.
-Destroyed the organization that servers had on pve organized events. event
-Destroyed RP aspects (game was already weak on RP by itself
- I dont want to help guilds doing their dutys besides guilds im used to play on my server.

On favor, its easy to deploy LS story, since now theres more players, it is easy to create the “mindless gameplay” LS2 will be the same zergling fest, players will not be throwed to a overflow becouse they are already on the overflow with randoms.

Imo this is a very depreciative technique in game quality and time spent on trying it to work becouse contradicts several game mechanics as WvW it self, wich now its justa faction/alliance u choose to defend on the mist or something.

EDit: i removed the suposed “bad” words from last one, hope not to get +1 infraction point

1st April joke, when gw2 receives a “balance” update.

I’ve been blocking folks that are recruiting in chat from other servers. Does anyone know if there’s a limit on the block list? If there’s no limit, eventually I’ll get everyone not on my server blocked :o)

That won’t change the Walmart atmosphere that this mega server thing has created in open world areas though. I mostly WvW, were they smart enough not to mix competing servers in the mega mergers?

I’m sitting at Vigil looking at a bunch of people I don’t know… just feels kinda empty.

This type of comment has had me perplexed for quite a while. There are likely multiple hundreds of people on every given server. I don’t see how anyone would be able to recognize more then a handful of the population on any one server. I don’t see how any one can make a valid correlation or come to any substantial conclusion based solely on observation. Doing so would be highly susceptible Observation bias.

I understand that it feels that there are a bunch of people you do not know. If the area that you are in was historically a low population that you only saw a handful of people constantly on the server. Of course there is going to be a bunch of people you don’t know. The entire idea was to add more people to low populated areas. If the area you are in was a high populated area see statement above.

What’s missing is a feeling of camaraderie. I WvW a lot. We used to have people jumping into our cities yelling, “Border Lands are under attack! Need help now!”. We’d rally together and fight off the enemy. That’s gone now.

It used to feel like you were hanging out at a club house or school cafeteria. Now it feels like hanging out at a crowded subway station… I’m not sure if that makes sense to anyone else, but to me, outside of WvW there’s no more feeling of family.

I didn’t know everyone on the server of course. I do know most of the guilds though. Not so much anymore.

I do agree there is much to be desired when talking with your server-mates. That is not necessarily a problem with the mega-server though. That is a problem that could be solved by implementing a map restrained (broadcast the same distance as map chat) home server chat. That would solve multiple problems not only with WvW it would also solve problems with, guild recruitment(currently solved by specifying the server you are recruiting for), and it would also solve issues with the Europe Language issue. Still have map chat for all those on the map itself. But have a additional map chat that is specific to your server.

We may get that someday and I hope we do.

I also like the idea of having one map (Perhaps LA when/if they rebuild it) to stay server specific. I think most servers had at least LA filled to comfortable levels. The downfall to that however is that it would be likely to overflow as it being the only map that is server specific and a lot of people want that environment.

I`ve waited long enough, the lack of official word is as good as coming out and saying that although they are aware of the legion of issues with this feature, there are no plans to significantly change it. I`m not in the business of making idle comments either. I specifically came onto these forums for the first time since the game launch to protest against what is, sorry, was, a game breaking change for me personally. I said if mega`s were here to stay, I was gone. And I meant it. I`ve said my goodbyes, and am currently uninstalling the game. It was a fun ride while it lasted, and it could have lasted much, much longer, and I would have most likely spent more money than ever, especially with skins now being account unlocks. But I`ll never know now, and perhaps much more importantly to anet, they`ll never know how much more I would have spent. I`ll keep an eye on the forums, assuming I can be bothered to check, and honestly, at this point, after all the apparent disregard of the devs, I can`t honestly say I`m gonna prioritize it. I was trying to recruit a couple of friends into the game prior to this, and now, now I can`t tell them anything but to stay away, far far away, from this game, and feel obligated to warn everyone I know about this as well. I wish all of you who actually CAN stand these mega"kittens" well, and good luck. But as for me? I`m out.
Fun while it lasted, but time to move on.

I didn`t say that now did I? Granted, it is official word, but there`s no comment on them making significant changes, or at least, no comment on making changes to the system significant enough to overcome the core problems inherent in the new system, and that is what I`ve been looking for.

Not true. All they said is they are going to tweak megaservers.

Megaservers as a system will never be able to fix the multitude of problems that are linked to the way they function, even if they functioned correctly. It’s how they are built. It is fundamentally different from the old system we add which people simply want back.

Is it just coincidence (i.e net traffic on my end) or is this causing some pretty bad lagging?

I had to call it early last night because it was taking forever to load into anywhere and EotM was kitten near unplayable because folks were warping all over the place. This has been going on for a few days now. Bonus, though…it was really nice to see a few player mobs populating Cursed Shore and Malchor’s leap for a change. They’re usually dead zones on my server.

Love seeing more people exploring the world of Tyria but the only concern I currently have is the watered down effect of live events. I also don’t care for the current timer system that is implemented and I don’t believe camping certain events is the most appropriate avenue to take regarding our “living world.”

Love some of the updates but believe some things still need a little polishing and tweaking.

It’s now a zombie zerg full of lazy people that found it too difficult to guest to a zombie zerg server that boss trained every night. It’s now a freaking zombie zerg everywhere, full of serverless, blobbers. I fully understand that some people found it difficult to find the zerg before the megazerg patch(though it was always there, on servers that some of us dislike), now it’s easy to blob. Oh rejoice simple ones.

I think fixing the overflow problem was a great idea, but the execution creates a few more problems. If I didn’t love GW2 so much, these problems wouldn’t bother me at all. If I was a PvE’r, I’d be mindlessly smiling and clapping with the rest of the lemmings.

GARBAGE… GARBAGE… GARBAGE… The megaserver system is completely and totally 100% undeniable GARBAGE…

Sure, on a low population server it makes complete and total sense to want to make their maps more populated. Sure it makes to put people in the same guild, friends listed, etc in the same map.

My issue is I went to cursed shore and EVERY SINGLE guild member got shoved into a different map and we are all from the same server and some where even in the same parties and still did not get into the same map. Yes I know you can “ferry” people in through the join on option but that’s just a pain.

Once we did get everyone into the same map we could not get Arah or Grenth event to succeed because there were so many people scaling the events to insane difficulties that is nigh impossible to complete.

I went afk for about 30 minutes due to being fed up with failed event after failed event and came back to every event still not being completed. Before this GARBAGE “feature” high population servers like BLACKGATE, JADE QUARRY, TARNISHED COAST, and many others had ZERO issues doing any event.

GG Anet, you just butt-kittened a huge portion of your playerbase…

I have mixed feelings.

I like that the megaservers allow me to run into other players in random zones. It makes leveling a bit better/easier/less boring but the megaservers have completely ruined farming Orr for extra money on the side.

I feel like I’m part of a small minority that actually enjoyed farming for cash. One of the main things I love about this game are the aesthetics and collecting weap/armor skins. To be able to do all that, I need to have cash. I used to guest and farm Orr temples whenever I had the time but now I can’t do so.

It wouldn’t be so bad if there were other viable ways to do it but I feel like everything else has been nerfed pretty badly (FGS/Queensdale loot tables). I know I can do dungeons and I do them regularly, but you can only make so much.

I know this has been said judging by the crazy number of pages this forum has, but i will voice my concerns as well so Anet can see. I see what they were going for by implementing mega servers. In theory, it can bring together more people and dead servers and give players a chance to do things they couldn’t do in the past.

However, this game is called GUILD Wars. And this Mega server crap has broken the unity of being in a guild. Guild missions, puzzle, challenge and more that used to take 45 minutes, now takes 2-3 times as longer due to the fact that we have spend time taxiing in our whole guild. I’m thankful my guild is all in TS and we can just ask who needs a taxi to get on the right map, but what about the guilds that have players without a mic. its just going to be blowing up guild chat trying to get our guild on the same page. I can see this being stressful for players that want to join their guild on a map.

This idea was worth a try Anet, but this has really made the unity of being in a guild stressful. If we want to help our guild do Map Completion or World Bosses, the biggest challenge shouldn’t be making sure we are all on the same map. It should be the game. This removes players from the game experience and makes me not want to PVE at all.

Please Anet, listen to the players that keep this game going.

THANKS #megaSTUPIDserver

Not to mention all the other downsides! But wait a minute, at least ANet can say their game is full of people, with no area being “dead” >.< Never-mind that you’ve completely BROKEN the game now! I feel even worse for those people that may have (PAID) to transfer off of a high population server to get on to a smaller population server. Now that’s not a choice, there’s no way to “transfer” to a low population server, because there ISN’T ONE ANYMORE. I say you should have left it the way it was, and if people didn’t like being on a “dead” server THEY could have transferred to a high population server… I for one actually liked being on a lower population server! NOW tell me how I get away from all these people!

From what I can see (and foresee) there is NO way to “fix” this, the only “fix” would be to roll it BACK, NO megaserver at all, get RID of em’!

It is not coincidence. It has been known long ago that they barely started optimizing game engine at launch, and even now that work is far from being finished. As it is the engine simply cannot reliably support that many people and effects in one spot. But hey, introducing megaserver was so important that making sure first the rest of the game is actually compatible with it was not an option apparently.

Actions, not words.

My feedback is that while megaservers are great for the combat maps, its awful for cities. In cities everyone tends to congregate in one place (around banks/trading posts/vendors/crafting stations). This can be a serious problem for those of us using slower graphics cards. Also, I gather the RP community would like to have Megaservers removed from cities as well, which I’m not part of, but two birds with one stone right? So ya, basically, remove megaservers from cities, keep them in everywhere else and it will be awesome.

As I’ve also seen others say: people are noticing how many more trolls are appearing on every/all maps now. Also like someone else had said previously, I have no doubt this will bring out the troll in people who may have never trolled before, because there’s a certain level of ‘anonymity’ (or at least the ‘feeling’ of such) with this megaSTUPIDserver crap!

I guess ANet really, REALLY did not think this one through!

Okay, just want to share one of my experiences concerning megaservers. I know this is a little silly, but hey, even the details matter, right?

Two days ago, I was in Gendarran Fields with my thief trying to get 100% Map completion to unlock one of the traits. At one point during my adventures I decide to use a waypoint to Nebo Terrace to cover a bit of nearby undiscovered area I had left behind.

Loading… loading… loading…

“Oh cool! I’m here! Wait, where’s everyone? Where’s the town? I can’t even see the walls! I’m on Nebo Terrace right?” This has never happened to me before, even on my previous older computer. Not even at launch day where everyone was trying to get in everywhere.

I try to move my character forward. She stops as if she is being blocked by something. I look into my mini map. “Well, what do you know, according to the mini map I am on Nebo Terrace”, and apparently ran into a wall. “Okay, let’s turn my character around.” Boop. “Okay, another direction then.” Boop. “Okay, did I just jump into a nest of wooden boxes or stairs?” Boop. “Okay, let’s try jumping out… eeehhh, not working this way. Okay made it back to where the wp should theoretically be. And why is there still nothing to be seen on screen from the settlement?

Suddenly two NPCs pop, speaking to each other. I tilt my head, confused. “… Oh Six, it’s still loading the walls. This will take a while.”

I get up. Bio. Get water. Get a piece of bread. I check forums. I check FaceBook. Rewatch the first five minutes of TFS DBZ Abridged episode. And when I come back, just then it finished loading… and my character appears dead. Oops. It was in the middle of a Defend event, and someone was there to revive me. Once my character got to her feet, I kicked centaur kittens and got rewarded.

So in those few minutes I got my taste of some of the good and the bad of Megaservers (definitely doesn’t touch upon all the pros and cons).

Bad = “Holy, this is lagaliciously criminal.”
Good = “Hey, this ensured there would be someone to revive me.”

When Revenant does better than Necro
in every playstyle imaginable,
they’ll call it a day and release HoT.

I didn`t say that now did I? Granted, it is official word, but there`s no comment on them making significant changes, or at least, no comment on making changes to the system significant enough to overcome the core problems inherent in the new system, and that is what I`ve been looking for.

Yes you did.
You stated that there were no official word, which is incorrect, and you know it.

They won’t give us details until they have decided what to try next, otherwise people will you shout and whine about being lied to if they figure out that it is not a good solution.

Classic Krall.

Poster… “I’m unhappy with a game issue”
Krall… “I’m unhappy you have an opinion /insert ad-hominem attacks”

Just because you skate the edges of moderation does not undo you being as toxic to discussion as the most negative and vocal complainer.

No longer having a server home or community is a valid and important issue to me. Nothing in that self-congratulatory blog post indicates that they even admit the issue or severity of it (for many of us) or plan to address it at all.

Ley lines. The perfect solution to deadlines and writers block. Now in an easy open Can.

Players either want a comment on every post or won’t be statisfied and I don’t want any arguments going ‘’if they just had one comment explaining’’, players will react negativly whatever Anet does.

They may as well be silent and let the players complain cause they complain anyhow.

You know the opposite end of this spectrum exists too, right?

There are players on here who think that Anet could do no evil, applauding everything and anything they do. Anet could convert all of their gold into bowls of chocolate cherry frosting, delete all of their characters, and transfer their account to the Arctic Circle.
They would then post on these forums about how they deserved it.

You know these players exist also!

I am no software architect, but I would love if we could feed the system with a set of priorities, something like a checklist to make the sorting more individual

language
RP/non RP
organised Bossevents
Serverpriority
Guildcontent
less populated maps
leveling

Megaserver system is great but should work like districts in GW1, allowing manual selection of servers. No need to reinvent the wheel when you already had a great system going in the first game.

Why couldnt anet just put in an option for megaserver/no megaserver?
Let the player choose.

Oh, this would be so nice… Someone take these ideas to heart!

Q: Devs. is this what you wanted with Mega servers ?..

This is with lowest setting for number of character model limit.- but else all other graphics highest. have OK gear
WB dead in a minute. With the community of 150 random green texts. Players I will never meet again or perhaps I will, who cares or knows?

Why I hate this whole megaserver idea?

I’m simple, pretty casual player which likes pve a lot. My PC is almost 5 years already, and before megaserver I was able to do world bosses events with ~3fps (with lowest all graphic settings) and it was fun for me anyway.
And now comes the Mighty Megaserver:
1) I dont’t have now even 1 fps on world bosses and can’t do anything because of amount of people which is now at least 3x more than before. That takes all fun of gaming from me.
2) I’m in multiserver guild which is specialized for killing Great Jungle Wurm and Tequatl, and we can’t even gather all on one map to kill those bosses.

Hi my dear Anet!!!! need more evidence that megaserver was bad idea???? forget the megaserver, it is quite simple: “we were wrong, sorry. We will back to the previous server method”.
Think of the players (customers) and dont destroy the game

What about those players that have been complaining about empty maps for almost two years then?
Should they not think of them? Why are you more important than those people?

Here’s a thought: find a fix for those poor people while not messing up the game for everyone else.

What about merging servers with the lowest population together first to reach a decent ammount of people instead of merging everyone randomly?

Just saying.
