-No more bouncing around and using out of the game programs to keep up with events
-No more getting stuck in an overflow where the event isn’t happening
-Guilds can trigger mega events on their own time
Dislikes:
-Can’t see dungeon and WP status, meaning we have to spend nearly twice as much money to get where we want.
-Gathering nodes are going to be a pain now since there are no fixed maps.

It seems like this will make doing bosses overly complex. At this time, every reset we do a world event train. This will no longer be possible. Meaning the amount of loot earned is drastically lowered.
I personally do not like the change.
If guilds can trigger world events, do non guild members get the same rewards or are rewards for non guildies limited to karma, XP and a silver like existing guild missions?
They already mentioned in part 1 that you can just right-click their portait and click “Join in…” so they obviously havent removed that functionality.
Anyone else notice they snuck a “TBD” into the world boss rotation schedule
Im guessing that stands for “The Big Dragon.”
I am more than ecstatic about the guild world event idea.

So, can I have some clarification as well on gatherable nodes ? Will their locations pretty much be randomized everytime I enter the area now since I probably never will be on the same “instance” ?

Since it is just used to trigger an already existing event I imagine loot will be the same as the normal event, however a dev confirmation would be great.
Hmm. Why not have all 3 top bosses kick off in each of the red time slots? As it stands, I will never see a Wurm slot.
I absolutely hate now that I’m forced to do these metaevents events on a schedule. I understand why you guys did it, but I really hate it.
“Mission Permission” for officers.
Does that also include regular Guild Missions such as Rush, Challenge, etc?
If so, AMAZING.
Right… where to begin?
I can’t be on twenty four hours a day and I don’t belong to, or want to be forced to join, a large guild that can invoke the world bosses. Also, smaller guilds still struggle with the insane costs for most of these unlocks – we’re already forced to join larger guilds just to play some of the game’s content and access the rewards.
So, I guess I can summarise it with two questions:
1) When will smaller guilds be able to do… anything?
2) Why do I always get the short straw with every update?

Actually, they are taking the schedule away and giving control to us – through the guild event system.
Im hoping this is just the beginning for this kind of system. I LOVE this idea.
Like: Standardization of timing. Makes more sense.
Dislike/Observation: Hard to do a server-based gathering to do a boss as a server. It will be harder to also be offered help from the likes of TTS who have graciously gone from server to server aiding them in completing bosses like Teq and the dreaded 3-headed wurm.

(hopefully) easier to go to specific instances with ‘smarter’ people. Less casual people, so hardcore bosses like tequatl, don’t fail because afking people anymore.
More people per zone, (good for certain zone, bad for others). Like noob zones i like empty. Cause mobs give exploration experience almost all the time, and you can do quite a lot of events, and just chill out. With merging coming, all mobs will be ‘exploration bonus, removed’, cause people will spam the kills on them. Events like ‘kill Rampaging Skale’ will be even harder to pull off (last part is thus a dislike).
For wvw (eotm), you must disconnect Green (overgrowth), from the actual green servers. If you don’t do that, almost all eotm instances will be green raging over the enemy. It’s barely fun this way.
Dislike: if spawn rates are untouched, any event (even simple ones) will be so fast completed, there not even a chance to do usefull/fun stuff in zones.
Dislike: I have no guild atm. Several reasons (because i’m quite demanding i like to wvw, pve, pvp, and still not be forced to do stuff when i’m not in the mood for it – most guilds, even pvx onces, expect you do always do something, like join guild missions or dungeons at specific times). With this in mind, i have no guild, so how will you guys then put me together in a map? Via my friendlist? But there’s like 10+ from 6 servers. Without more info, dislike.
Dislike influence split across servers. If uniting is your intention, then this will still force ultimately for people to choose a ‘influence bank’-server, and at the same time choose a correct wvw server. And this might make it more complex then needed.
Hate it. And here’s why: I’m part of Attuned, a guild focused on fighting those “Hardcore” mega bosses. While it’s nice we can start the boss whenever we want, it’s terrible that we can no longer commandeer a map for ourselves.
Let me explain. Fights like the Triple Headed Jungle Wurm require coordination by 120~160 people with at least 110 of which in the same teamspeak. To accomplish this, my guild has been guesting to empty servers or forcing an overflow for private use. This ensures that we have only people who we know we can count on in the map and furthermore ensures we can actually accomplish killing the Wurm on a regular basis.
With the changes to the current system, it sounds like there will be no such thing as overflows, and no such thing as “empty maps” to guest to. In this case, it seems impossible to purge our runs of PUGs who are either geared incorrectly or unable/unwilling to follow commander instruction. Thus, this system makes future endeavors at killing the wurm (or any future, more-difficult boss) futile and impossible. Our guild is very dismayed over the fact that there has been no considerations for this situation and are skeptical that when this patch hits we’ll be able to kill wurm at all anymore due to the excessive amount of incompetent PUGs that will always be inside our (now merged) Bloodtide Coast.

Actually, they are taking the schedule way and giving control to us – through the guild event system.
If you can afford the guild unlock.
If you’re a member of a guild that has enough members to do said boss event.
If you’re on at that specific time to activate your unlock in the first place.
A few answers:
“To address this, we’ve developed a new schedule for boss events so each boss event occurs at the same times every day and on every world”
This is an example of the problem with the current conception of the single virtual server. When properly implemented, on a single virtual server, you would have no conception of “every world”. Differences in worlds would simply go away. That’s what horizontal scaling means. The reference to “every world” indicates that the single virtual server concept has been misconceived in GW2.

And for those of us who are not in big guilds? Or those of us not in guilds at all?
Do we simply not matter?

I completely agree. I hope they do away with this once everyone starts giving their “not so happy” feedback about it.

I have to agree with this. You guys have added almost nothing for small guilds…
Hmm. Why not have all 3 top bosses kick off in each of the red time slots? As it stands, I will never see a Wurm slot.
I will never see a top three boss during the week. Maybe on the weekend if I schedule it…
I get up at 04:30 to get ready for work, get home around 15:00, and go to bed at 2100…
That’s Eastern Time.

I know for a fact there is someone on your server planning to unlock the guild event system as soon as absolutely possible (even if it means using all of our – er, i mean their – banked guild influence to rush it).
It should make it easier for groups like TTS to do the same.

That option is only for the harder bosses.
Before this change I’ll be able to do 3 fire elemental bosses within an hour.
After, I’ll have to wait.

Just in case you’re being serious.. TBD means To Be Determined =)

Actually, it’s ‘to be determined’ and seeing it’s ‘Standard Worls Event’ it won’t be as hard as Teq/Wurms.

-Guilds can trigger mega events on their own time
I very much like these too, especially the ability for guilds to fire their own events off, I’ve always thought that that should have been a basic function for guilds. Well done Anet.
Dislikes:
-Can’t see dungeon and WP status, meaning we have to spend nearly twice as much money to get where we want.
-No mention of if you can still ferry people to the correct maps?
Makes accessing dungeons (and especially temple vendors) that much more of a chore. I would have thought they’d remove the requirement to “unlock” the dungeons at least, CoE is kinda time consuming to unlock for example. Still there should be a lot more people on the map so it’ll hopefully be unlocked more anyway.
However, at the moment I can guest to a server where, for example, Balthazar is open if I need something from the vendor now I may very well arrive on a map where no one is interested in opening it at all. We’ll have to see what happens there. With this in mind is there an option to “reroll” my map to go to another version?
The doubling on waypoint costs are annoying too incredibly so in Orr where you usually can’t get next nor near where you want to go at the best of times. I’d like to see them move some of the waypoints there to where they can be permanently uncontested when they’re rolling this out in Orr.
I think if you guys looked at raw numbers about how many people are actually in small guilds and solely rep a small, tight knit guild you would realize that adding functionality for something that you perceive as small, is actually a lot of your population.

Everyone can participate in Boss Event started a by a guild, so no worries.
What will this do to guesting to other servers or will there even be a need?
So, can I have some clarification as well on gatherable nodes ? Will their locations pretty much be randomized everytime I enter the area now since I probably never will be on the same “instance” ?
Well I cannot say that I know this for certain, but seeing as the system is taking variables from your account to figure out which mega server to put you in, if you find nodes with one character and switch to an alt to gather in the same area, it should use the same variables and at least most of the times come to the same conclusion about which “instance” to put you in.
While reading this i’d like to puke all over you. People like you are the worst thing which could ever happen to a game!
So, wouldn’t you rather give them their own private instance of the map so we don’t have to put up with them?

It hope it would be possible to do the following:

Guesting to another server will make you more likely to be placed on a map with people from that server as opposed to people from your own server.
At least that’s the interpretation I came to.
Hmm. Why not have all 3 top bosses kick off in each of the red time slots? As it stands, I will never see a Wurm slot.
In fact, why is every slot limited to a single world event? They don’t overlap in most cases.

If you don’t want to put in the effort, then you don’t deserve the rewards.
Wait, so we’re not going to be able to know when temple events are up when this gets to Orr? The blog says temple events aren’t being synchronized…so they’re going to be random on every map and thus impossible to get timers for?
With the fact that a whopping one waypoint in every Orr zone will be unlocked (since you’re locking all possible contested WPs until you load into the map), this is going to be extremely inefficient, having to constantly run around to see if any of the meta events for the temples are up.
Who thought this was a brilliant idea, again?
(edited by storiessave.3807)
I really don’t want to memorize the new event schedule. Will the Event APIs be updated to support the new system?
It hope it would be possible to do the following:
- Create a new World Boss API that omits the ability to specify a World, and returns the state of the World Boss events according to the new schedule.
- To grandfather in all the existing event trackers, the current Event API functions could simply ignore the World parameter.
A World Boss is spawned every 15 minutes. Memorizing it won’t be necessary unless you are particular about which bosses you fight.
The event timer sites can now be simplified and show the countdown until the next time each individual boss spawns, as well as which boss is coming up next.
Let guilds start every boss, open every dungeon permanently. Other stuff is cool.
A few answers:
- Gathering nodes are still randomized on every map instance.
Gathering is an important part of income for many players, this change now negates it and the use of infinite gathering tools that you sell.
You cannot expect people to run around trying to find these nodes everytime they enter the map if they change locations constantly.
I do not know the impact such a change will have on the economy, but the supply of these gatherable materials will surely plummet when these maps will be affected by your megaserver implantation.
I humbly suggest you try to find a solution to this. Me, being quite an hardcore gatherer for a long time, this change completly kittens me over.
Question: How will WvW bonuses function on these mega-servers?
“To address this, we’ve developed a new schedule for boss events so each boss event occurs at the same times every day and on every world”
And is this completely accidental, that as a “sideeffect” of that new schedule those events will now become much more rare?
Currently, when able to play for about 2 hours on a given day, it was highly likely i would be able to do every (or almost every) boss on the list (with the possible exception of Wurm/Teq of course, because nobody sane does them on my server). Now some of those bosses are on a 6 hour timer – i’m practically guaranteed to be unable to do at least some of them.
So, to sum it up – the events will become more rare, you said something about “readjusting” their difficulty (which is not good, considering how badly your readjustment of Teq ended), and there was no word about better rewards.
Why i am not surprised?

Can small guilds not get the short end of the stick?

I’d really like to have them on there own map. But the attitude “incompetent player, noobs, casuals suck” etc makes them bad players to me. I’d even like to give them their own game so no one needs to ever get in contact with them :-P
Most of this looks great, and I especially love the guild world event option. That said, I am very unhappy with one aspect.
Waypoints—All contestable waypoints on any map you’re not currently playing in will always appear contested. When you arrive in the map, you will be able to travel to these waypoints pending their local status.
Dungeons—You will no longer be able to tell if a dungeon entrance is open until you’re on the same map.
More of a gold sink in that I have to now use 2 waypoints in order to get where I want to go in many cases rather than simply 1 WP. Additionally, some maps (such as Orr) will have even less WPs to use to enter the map. So, now I have to waste gold and time (loading). Not a happy camper.
I am excited and really happy about these changes. Not everybody is going to be thrilled, I understand and am sorry.
My time is limited. I’d love to play 8 hours everyday but that just isn’t feasible. I know exactly what time I need to be on to do the world boss / event that I want. I don’t have to annoy my wife and tell her that it is 30 minutes to the window and then from there another hour +/- some. The worse part of Tequalt for me was sitting around with nothing to do just waiting for him to show up for hours.
Hate it. And here’s why: I’m part of Attuned, a guild focused on fighting those “Hardcore” mega bosses. While it’s nice we can start the boss whenever we want, it’s terrible that we can no longer commandeer a map for ourselves.

wow, just wow. What a horrible way to talk to someone in a public format.

Everyone can participate in Boss Event started a by a guild, so no worries.
And how do we know when these are? Guilds usually plan their events, some guilds make seperate ranks just for people who only want to join for guild missions, and don’t have to represent outside of that. I’m sure some guilds will do the same with world events. Just try to get help of guilds, it’s what this game is about after all.
Will these times be any more convenient for us? depends on what guild you roll with
Will the large guilds even want us randoms there? Even if they don’t, they can not kick you so they really have no choice. But if you just cooperate with them, they will most likely appreciate the help.
You have to understand that these large events are made to be completed through cooperation with a lot of people. It only makes sense this is made easier if you are in a large guild.
My guild for example, it has a facebook group, a website and mumble (basically the same thing as teamspeak). We organise everything on those mediums. This way we try to make sure everyone in our guild can participate in our events.
