Whats the Chest chain in plains of ashford?
Wisteria drops from a starting zone – what other starting zones have unique drops?
metrica seems forgotten to the 80’s (reactor)
Wayfarer, Shaman seems 2b farmed a lot by 80’s (on deso)
And shadow SEEMS to be getting farmed now
Also is there any lore linking Wist (or any other unique) to its drop location?

In my long winded post a page or so back I mentioned Aurora’s Remains and the event there. I only brought it up that it had this weird otherworldly homey feeling to it. The event I did solo wasn’t too terribly hard, and it did have a chest at the end. Granted it wasn’t a huge chest it was a Sylvari-looking chest. I looted a few greens and blues from it. Event link is below.

You have to follow the npcs back. Ontop of some mushrooms there will be a chest. but I doubt it would be it. It was either a splendid chest or just ‘chest’ as far as I remember.

First off, this isn’t the only weapon people cannot find. Wings/feathers of Dwayna, Reaper of Souls and Mirage are some weapons I’ve seen on the forums that no one is 100% sure of how to get (unless someone has it but hasn’t posted). Second, I think that the Shadow Behemoth and the Zho’qafa are really good possibilities if the staff’s name has to do with the location. The Shadow Behemoth is from the underworld and has to do with the undead which is the final rest of beings. He also my have to do with Dhuum but I don’t know for sure. Plus he just got fixed not too long ago, so maybe Final Rest is his unique drop. Zho’qafa has a legendary eye of Zhaitan, but why is he there? iirc he says “why do you disturb my rest” but why is an eye resting in a tomb? Is he an eye that Zhaitan put there to guard something or did Zhaitan just forget about him? Just seems a little odd.

Hello all,

I’m slightly tired and have perhaps drunk too much red wine, but I think I may have something which strongly indicates the whereabouts of Final Rest. Either that or it is a giant red herring.

I believe Final Rest is dropped from the chest that spawns when you complete the group event “kill the champion risen megalodon” by the Shipwreck Rock Waypoint at the southern most point of Orr.

The first clue is given quite clearly when you speak to the ghostly crew who have been shipwrecked, right by the waypoint. When speaking to crew member Sjoerd, he says “Orr is no place for the living. Not these days”, to which your reply is “You deserve to REST. May the Spirits of the Wild guide you to your FINAL reward” (my caps). See the attached screenshot.

The second clue is given when you speak to crew member Camelia, who stands by the water and says “I have been doomed to an eternity of constant, sleepless vigil by a monstrous megalodon shark….will you kill it for me?” i.e. will you help end her constant, sleepless vigil and help her to achieve Final Rest? See second attached screenshot.

No one ever does the Megalodon event because frankly it’s underwater and most people (that I know, anyway) avoid underwater combat wherever possible. Not only that but it is in the furthest corner of Orr where people hardly go anyway.

Strongly suggest people start checking this out!

Did this event with my guild 2 times when I first started searching for Final Rest and could convince them to entertain my eccentric questing. It’s a hard event…. can never get anyone in map chat to come help… and there is no chest that I could find either time after completion. I though exactly what you did… “Hey… this sounds perfect…” so I cried to my guildies till three of them came to help me out.

On an unrelated note… I would like to start farming some of these events with a dedicated crew… or at least a crew of people that rotate around when they are available. I’m available to play pretty much every day of the week, and would like to get at least 4 other people who would like to guest and farm a few of these events each day. Whisper me in game or pm me on the forums.

How many level 80 players actually go back and do hidden or long event chains in lower level areas though? Because these events need to be done at least 1000 times, by 80s, due to the exotic drop rate.

Since events can be triggered by interacting with unmarked objects or by using emotes, there could easily be hundreds of events in-game that have never been seen.

Here is my theory, take it for what it’s worth:

My girlfriend asked me about a defend event for the Temple of Blathazar and so I looked on the wiki to see if one existed. What I found was this:

“After gaining the temple, it remains friendly for several hours (2-4 hours estimated) after which an event spawns to defend it. If successful, it will remain open for about one more hour after which a much more difficult defend event triggers – with victory conditions such that failure is essentially certain.”

(wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Temple_of_balthazar)

So my theory is that since temples are rarely defended and tend to just flip because so few stay behind that the events could be considered “rare.” At the very least the second event that is allegedly after the first defend of temple of balthazar would most definitely be a rare boss. And what would a rare event “with victory conditions such that failure is essentially certain” be rewarded with? My guess, the largest chest in the game. Larger than the map boss events. I doubt that the map boss events would be considered for such a rare weapon simply because they happen too often to really be considered rare bosses. (but I guess you could try to make the case as such)

On a side note, I am currently working on planning to trigger this event with my guild Warlords Of The Mists (MisT) on Yak’s Bend server. I can’t speak for the guild, but I am trying to organize an event for us to defend the temple.

A SINGLE person has found it yet? It’s obvious as hell at this point the devs are making fools out of all of you.

All things considered, which I imagine you have not, a person or persons may have gotten it (did not like the skin), threw it in the Mystic Forge in an attempt to get a Precursor, sold it to merchant, salvaged it, stopped playing with it in their inventory, does not visit the forum/seen the 2 threads about it, did not sell it on the TP, or some unique situation of variables I haven’t thought of to explain how it has possibly been found already because it is difficult to consider all things. Potentially there are lots of outcomes from lots of possibilities. With the thousands of players, not all do the same things or progress at the same rate. There are variables at play and not all of them are presented on the internet in relation to rare named loot or information related to rare named loot in order to be shared and to be known to all GW2 players. RNG is a… a… bad vendor to get what you want. Throw in that a few events were bugged for an extended period of time, others less often completed, and seasonal content occupied many player’s game time for a while.

Gasoline (interestingly, fuel and trolling behavior), do you know of a website offering real data with numbers of all available events with completion numbers over time since launch and numbers of participants (with ranks)? Perhaps with that data, we could narrow down the potential events or argue that the drop rate for Named Exotics % must be examined. Share it, if you got one. If one does find Final Rest, they should immediately buy lotto tickets and take a trip to Vegas before the luck expires.

Personally, I blame DR for having an unintended effect and would greatly appreciate another tactic being used to deal with botters because there must be real time data aspects that can be observed by learning from the bots used to test the game, in order to find aspects to look for among player used bots (http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/180776/Video_Guild_Wars_2s_programming_tricks_revealed.php#.UR8tJmenkpY), the use of markers on the video time line is great, there is one called “Bot Testing” in the video. The video does mention they have hundreds of thousands of people, and used about a 100,000 bots for testing. 0o an amazing video. With this data analysis capability presented in the video, I’m inclined to believe that page 8’s Dev post.

Quick thought which may be another red herring.

The ship that Rotbeard resides on is called Death’s Anthem, “anthem” being a musical reference. A “rest” is a musical term indicating an interval of silence. Final Rest…?

My guess is fire elemental. As some guy mentioned here, the huge boss in caldeon forest (Starting zone) has a special drop which only he drops. therefor its most likely the other starting bosses has it aswell.

The shadow behemoth, may aswell be a good option, but its getting farmed ALOT! People are guesting on other servers just to kill it 3 times in a row, most likely someone is going to get it/get the special drop he has. Someone might have it already, but its not the final rest and it is on the TP

Frozen Maw, this is getting farmed like crazy aswell… And it has been for months

Fire elemental, how many 80’s do it? Just because YOU and your guildies do it, doesnt mean ALOT do it… I never see anyone talking about it, never heard lvl 80’s talk about doing it… Its like the “Forgotten” boss….

I know its not related to the staff, but how is the focus you get from the big wurm related to it? Because it is a vine? Ok, then i can say… ON RINAL REST, MAYBE ITS NOT A GARGOYLE! IT CAN BE AN EMBER FROM THE FIRE ELEMENTAL!

No, it doesn’t.

And if you open the chest a third time, you’ll get something else. And if you open it a fourth time, you’ll get something else. It’s called random loot, and it’s how nearly every chest in GW2 works.

I realise this entire thread is about religion (discussing where to find an item that isn’t actually in the game), but I thought people would have figured out how chests in GW2 work, at this point.

If you can see the chest, you can loot it, and the loot you get is selected from that chest’s loot table. If the loot is only available after completing a certain event, then you won’t even see the chest until you complete the event (and if you’ve looted it recently, you’ll see it but won’t be able to open it).

It wouldn’t make any sense for items to appear inside a chest just because someone died nearby. If there was additional loot intended for people who kill the boss, that loot would drop from the boss, or from a chest that spawns when the boss dies, to make it clear to players that they are getting that reward because they killed the boss.

It is a bit presumptuous to assume just because no one has found this item that it doesn’t exist.

Consider the following facts:
The majority of level 80s do not go to lower level zones for long periods of time (usually just for map completion, and when you do map completion you don’t particular care to do the events)
A dev has said its been double checked and the item should be available but the item has a low chance to drop.

Outside of the popular events (dragons, shadow behemoth, etc) in the lower level zones some zones in this game are pretty deserted. I would say its likely that not every item has been found in this game if the item comes from a lower level zone and you have to be level 80 to have a shot at getting it.

These are the areas we should be looking, events in lower level zones that have a boss that gives a chest.

I actually think it is unlikely that the z cata event contains this item, because the event is at least run semi-regularly on multiple servers.

His methodology doesn’t prove the loot in the chest changes, but your reply doesn’t prove it doesn’t either. I’d tend to believe that the loot in the chest does not change, but there’s no governing rule of the universe that says Anet couldn’t make it behave that way. That would actually be an interesting mechanic for those type of fights, and would help hide such an item as this. I doubt that’s happening here, but it’s entirely possible.

i have no interest in this staff at all, actually my arah staff is much much better looking anyways. this staff doesn’t exist in the game i believe. the fact not one confirmed player yet on all these threads? devs can come here all they want and say they have checked the loot tables but thats BS. for how many players with legendary weps and not one final rest? that really doesn’t make any sense at all honestly. there is nothing great to this staff. i have a feeling if it is in the game….its not ready to be dropped untill anet adds some sort of new content with new events….it will pop up, with in a few weeks tons of players will have it.

People have provided several examples from other games of similar or comparable situations. My personal example was of Sea in FFXI, it was out for a much longer time, with so many people trying it at every opportunity, but none of those people managed to figure out how to beat it. There really was a way the entire time, but it was so obscure with no hints that no one figured it out. SE repeatedly told the community “our test server team beats it routinely, it can be done.” They were right, it was just too obscure and too hidden for the players to figure out on their own.

and it wouldn’t also make sense for one chest to open when a linked chest is.

ever done craze’s folly?

the small chest there is a trap, opening it will also open the large chest later in the puzzle.

so tell me, is it not possible to have a small chest near rotbeard, that when opened will flag a large chest, invisible, uninteractable, and in the same place as the small chest as open?

what if that chest, on rotbeard’s defeat would be displayed for people who took part in the event, whilst making the small chest uninteractable?

it would be easy too: all that would be required is 2(or 4 if visibility and tangibility are handled seperately) state changes between the chests, one of which is already observable in temple and dragon chests, and the illusion of killing an enemy = better loot is perfect

if(rotbeard.isdead == true && player.tookpart == true)
{
largechest.visible = true;
smallchest.visible = false;
}
if(smallchest.opened == true)

After having done the Demagogue Event 2 times in less than 24 hours with my guild was interesting. I used the same character and the second time, the chest was still displayed as open for me and a guildy who used the same characters twice. I don’t think that is the chest. It acts as a world chest and boss chest at the same time. It was hidden by a gourd that was over it both times til the boss died. It also only drops a few items like a world chest and I just don’t believe that chest will contain that item. It doesn’t fit the quest very well.

We also did the Zhoqafa Event chain in Straits this morning. It is a total of 10 events. There is a 15-30 minute interval between the first parts til when you can spawn the anti-aircraft event and then get the escort mission. There is an event to escort even after you beat the boss. The chest from the Eye of Zhaitan takes a few seconds to open because it has an activation time, and it is a big chest. The staff skin just seems to fit the event. I could see how no one would have gotten it yet. It’s long and has a break and most wouldn’t even know what to do during that down time and the airship event in the swamp isn’t close at all to where you are at the start. This is the event people should be farming ad nauseum.

That event has been farmed, and quite a lot. The chest at the end is also a Glorious Chest, which shares the same loot table with every other Glorious Chest in the game. So not only has it been farmed, but it’s not really possible that Final Rest would drop from it in the first place.

I just did Rotbeard. Rotbeard is spawned when you open the big chest in the ship at the bottom level, but there is nothing in that chest when you open it. It remains empty after he dies, and I did not see any other large chest appear afterwards.

A chest does appear after you kill him… but if I remember correctly it is just a smaller “splendid” chest off to the side of the room.

Actually that chest is always there, it doesn’t spawn. And it’s a labeled chest, all labeled chests share a loot table with all other chests of the same label.

the chests loot changes if you kill him,

No, it doesn’t.

I opened the chest, got a blue pirate boot, then killed him, the second time I killed him first, THEN opened the chest, and got a bunch of greens and an orb

If there was additional loot intended for people who kill the boss, that loot would drop from the boss, or from a chest that spawns when the boss dies, to make it clear to players that they are getting that reward because they killed the boss.

and it wouldn’t also make sense for one chest to open when a linked chest is.

ever done craze’s folly?

the small chest there is a trap, opening it will also open the large chest later in the puzzle.

so tell me, is it not possible to have a small chest near rotbeard, that when opened will flag a large chest, invisible, uninteractable, and in the same place as the small chest as open?

what if that chest, on rotbeard’s defeat would be displayed for people who took part in the event, whilst making the small chest uninteractable?

it would be easy too: all that would be required is 2(or 4 if visibility and tangibility are handled seperately) state changes between the chests, one of which is already observable in temple and dragon chests, and the illusion of killing an enemy = better loot is perfect

if(rotbeard.isdead == true && player.tookpart == true)
{
largechest.visible = true;
smallchest.visible = false;
}
if(smallchest.opened == true)
{
largechest.opened =true;
}

I don’t think it’s Rotbeard. And I think the key to understanding this is to look at the Dev’s wording in the last hint given…

I will confirm that I looked in the game data and traced the item to its loot table to the chest that uses the loot table to the event that spawns the chest"

notice how he specifically says “spawns”. This leads me to believe it’s not Rotbeard since both the empty chest and the small chest in the room are already visible before the event to kill him fires (triggered by opening the big chest). According to the dev wording the event must completed and THEN the chest appears.

good point, so that means all chests currently in the world are out.

how many chests are currently named?
the only “large” chests I can think of are glorious chests, splendid chests, demonic chest, and swamp chest, anything that shares a name is out, since they share the same loot tables, leaving uniquely named chests

one possible place I think it could be is ashford
AFAIK, the metas for that zone are to liberate the barradin vaults and to take ascalon city (10 and 15 metas respectively)
VERY few people farm the ascalon city event, since it’s not obvious it’s a “giant boss” like other regions (queensdale has bughemoth, caledon has wurm, metrica has ele, wayfarers has maw, but the only reason so many know maw is a “giant” chain is because so many people do it it’s common knowledge)

one interesting part about the city meta is that it’s at the heart of the foefire, directly below it is the area you fight adelburn and where magdaer’s shards are.

so to recap:
retaking ascalon city meta, “giant boss” event, is directly over an area of significance to asclonian history, not commonly farmed.

the only thing I’m not sure about is the chest that spawns

Are you sure there is a chest? I remember doing that event but I don’t remember but I don’t remember any chest but it was a long time ago.

It is a bit presumptuous to assume just because no one has found this item that it doesn’t exist.

Er, no, that’s kind of the definition of existing. If no one has found it, the item doesn’t exist in the game.

Its name / ID might be listed in some event’s loot table somewhere, but it doesn’t actually “exist” as an item available to players, either because the loot table is bugged or the way the drop chance is calculated is bugged (ex., being rounded down to 0.0%), or because, despite three million people playing the game, the random number generator has persisted in returning the wrong result.

Or, of course, it might not even be listed on any loot table, and might be just a little social experiment on the part of some developers, to see how long they can keep some people playing by making them chase something that they can never actually catch (people who might otherwise stop playing, if they ran out of things to chase).

Until it actually drops, it’s not in the game, in much the same way that there are no pink elephants, although there might be a chance that a genetic mutation will one day produce one.

His methodology doesn’t prove the loot in the chest changes, but your reply doesn’t prove it doesn’t either.

There’s a simple way to test it. Loot the chest, then kill the boss, and click on the chest again, to see if any items have been added.

I’ve killed Rotbeard about a dozen times (he’s easily soloable) and:

a) If I had looted the chest before killing him, the chest remained empty after killing him, and
b) There was no significant difference in the quality of the loot, regardless of when I opened the chest (before or after killing him)

So, while it is of course possible that Arena Net coded this particular chest to behave in a completely illogical way (just as it’s possible that the contents of this chest depend on what dyes players use in their armour or how many consonants are in the character’s name – after all, that can be coded), there is no evidence to support that theory. Ockham’s razor and all that.

Your “simple” test wouldn’t establish anything. Anet can easily set it so the chest can only be opened once per set time period and that the drop table that’s used for determining loot changes depending upon whether or not Rotbeard has been killed in the past x amount of time. From a programming perspective such an act is trivial. Without access to the actual code for the chest the only way to test would be to open the chest enough times to statistically determine the drop table both with and without killing Rotbeard. That would require tens of thousands of data points for both with and without killing the boss.

As I noted before, I highly doubt this is the case, I’m merely saying that you’re wrong in your claims that it’s impossible. Also, if you’re going to try use Occam’s razor, I’d recommend figuring out how it’s spelled first.

A unique name of chest is likely to have special loot available. Would chests that are in many places that have been completed often since launch have it and not given it? (or has it been given? it is rare, and might a player that has it not put it on TP, sold it to merchant, salvaged it, not used the forum, etc etc)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/NPC_rank
Rare is (according to wiki) a Legendary NPC.
Put them into the equation of possibility from the hints from Devs. I’m compiling a list of names of chests that follow Legendary NPCs. (that are not already on wiki) The Shadow Behemoth is my leading possibility currently. Considering it was bugged for an extended period of time, and who goes back to do that event after reaching 80? Doing it 50+ times, with RNG, you can still not get it. /shakefist@RNG.

Any interest in suggesting that they add a Mystic Forge recipe for next patch to make the Final Rest? (along with the few other named exotic weapons that have not been publicized)

CLEAN 5000 ends with a small “Chest”. not even named.
I have a screen shot of chest targeted to show name if u want to see it.
