I’ve progressed that meta event to the final stage, but never actually completed it myself. I have seen it completed (I arrived just in time to see the conversation the wiki notes follows completion of the last step). However, I don’t think you can ever use the portal, and suspect there’s no chest from the boss.

Doing the final event (Destroy the Mark II golem) spawns a “Secure Container” chest and grants you access to the asura portal, which teleports you outside to the EVAC-U-ATOR 9000 karma merchant.

Soo many posts and views and we still haven’t found it…

I really wish a red post would show up here with another hint, or at least a clarification what exactly they meant by large (or rare). Any post would do at this point…

Yeah, it’d be nice to see some confirmation of this alleged conversation between Deified and Mr. Vaughn at the very least (either corroboration from Vaughn or screenshots from Deified would do). An actual substantive hint beyond the supremely vague “(large) boss with (large) chest” would be lovely.

Well I can give you a screenshot of his response to me. I thought from the way he phrased his response, that he would post a reply once I gave him the thread links, but I guess not. (or he’s too busy right now? but I doubt that)

So we now definitely know that he’s still kicking around, but all of the previous information (confirmation of previous hints, confirmation that staff is dropping as intended from an event that’s functioning as intended) remains unconfirmed. Hopefully we’ll hear something from him soon!

I hope so. I though it would have been that day, or possibly the day after, but I guess not. I don’t really want to bother him again about it, but I will in a few weeks if we haven’t heard anything from him. I wonder what other Anet employee we could try PM to get another hint from (that would know anything about this item).

I personally think a good hint that’s not really a hint would be if the boss was a legendary boss. Seriously, there’s a lot of bosses that it could possibly be.

In SWTOR, for example, Magneta crystals involved a convoluted series of quests/required items involving multiple planets and things. It’s possible that obtaining the Final Rest involves something similar, like (for example) defeating all the temples in Orr in a particular order, or obtaining a rare item in one zone and interacting with a series of obscure things in another bunch of zones.

Or another possibility is that it’s an event that only spawns based on obscure requirements, like only spawning during a new or full moon.

Well there is stuff like the Matrix Cube Key and there are NPCs which only spawn and night and disappear at dawn. I’ve also come across an NPC which you could talk to in order to start an even but it did no have the event symbol.

I really can’t give out any hints or information, especially since anything I say is going to be intensely analyzed. So I’m going to play it safe and not comment on the size of the boss, the chest, or the rarity of the boss. I will confirm that I looked in the game data and traced the item to its loot table to the chest that uses the loot table to the event that spawns the chest to make sure everything is set up. I can also confirm that it has a very low drop rate, so running the event 5 times or 10 times proves nothing.

Well that actually does help as it rules out being a direct drop from a boss.

Is it possible to say if the boss is killed on a “regular” basis?

could you narrow it down a teensy bit?

saying “it’s not in orr” would likely do wonders for getting more people in the lower level zones :P

what about the SHAPE of the chest, can you comment on that? :P

or possibly if the event is currently done often or not (ie, is the event insanely well hidden or rare?)

also, I’d like to point out to people that rotbeard’s reward chest is “trapped” like the one in craze’s folly, opening the small one before he dies locks you out of the large one after :P

Thank you kindly Jeffrey for this info, but can you understand how frustrating you have made eveyone lol.We really do appreciate that you have checked that the item does drop, what would be great is saying something else ,even if you do a random statement say every few weeks like ok guys and girls Queensdale is out have fun keep looking , and make this into a treasure hunt of epic scale. Then while we are out finding the Final Rest you could work on another item drop from a different boss and keep everyone that loves this sort of collecting really interested by adding that into the game only after we have found the first one.

I know I for one really miss the chest farming for R7 weapons from gw1 and I am sure I am not alone.

You know a good questions would to ask the Devs? Has anyone done this event/boss in the past yet? Or is this event listed on the Wiki at all, without blatantly saying what it is.

I don’t mean to sound overly nuts here but it seems obvious to me that this is either a very very rare event to come across or a constantly bugged event or bugged chest drop. Perhaps even an event where everything in the event has to fail in order to get to the point that the boss spawns, ie, something moving in and taking over an area and not being pushed backed by players.

I know I keep finding stuff and hidden champ fights as well, like the Mysterious creature on Mount Maelstrom where you have to bring 4 green items and place it in the lava so the thing spawns. I just did that event a week ago but it didn’t drop a chest (although I did get about 70s worth of mats off the thing since the adds would drop stuff) That was a fun solo fight but anyhow, I think there must be something else like this we are missing.

I’d imagine It would have to be from something that people don’t ever do like, killing the risen giants in Orr. Even with a low drop rate someone by now would have gotten it if everyone was doing the event that drops it. I figure it would have to be a rarely killed champion or something, not one that is killed constantly.

Pretty much even saying there is some sort of dialog or clue in the game that might point us in a direction would be fantastic. Right now anything we do have is purely speculation and considering the rarity of this thing, someone may never find it. It HAS to be an isolated event, one hardly anyone does or does often enough to even stumble onto it. Other than combing the wiki through every event that spawns a chest (we already know it’s a large chest) could easily narrow it done a bit. But that’s a lot of data to comb over. We aren’t even sure if it’s a low level zone or not. But we for sure can rule out the big ones, maw, all the dragons and all the temples, including arah opening event.

I really love how half the posts say the same thing over and over again and how they call for people to actually do stuff, but nothing ever gets done.

The item is looking to be a waste of time for anyone involved and the only reason to even go after it is to sell it for a large sum of cash. Its pretty much a winning lottery ticket at this point (which is sad IMO).

The boss/chest/event/whatever itself probably has an obscure amount of things that no on in their right mind would think of doing in order for it to spawn.

(Hypothetical example: Stand in one place at a certain time of day for 5min, then go to talk to NPC 1 hr later to give them an item that can only be found on every full moon in a window of 10min by killing a certain enemy. Doing this will spawn an event that has the slight chance of dropping Final Rest. Things like that that nobody will ever find.)

It’s probably underwater. People avoid underwater events like the plague. Since it’s a very rare drop, it probably averages that tens of thousands of chests would have to be opened before Final Rest is received, and I bet some of those underwater events have been completed less than 1000 times. Maybe we should make a list of underwater chests.

Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was in the grounded boat in the south of the cursed shore. It would match the theme of the area, the boat itself is called Death’s Anthem according to the wiki. It also doesn’t seem like a popular place to farm either, but maybe that’s just on servers I’ve been to. Has anyone ever farmed it with 50+ players?

If the drop rate is so low, and other meta event exotics are rare even when so many people farm them… I can understand why no one has seen Final Rest if it is in Death’s Anthem.

That’s actually the only place I can think of that fits thematically. Avatar of Grenth bosses would fit more in line with giving creepy staffs that aren’t associated with scythes, seeing as Grenth never carried a scythe (Dhuum was the one that used scythes, and there aren’t any Avatars of Dhuum running around, sadly).

So its very likely that whatever chest that has it is not played very often or often enough to have dropped it. “very low” < 100, 500, 1000, 10000 openings?

Whoever finds one I bet could sell it for 2x a Legendary. It being ‘one of a kind’ after all.

The motive for some people isn’t as simple as ‘if I find it first, I can sell it and be rich!’
Though I’m not actively searching for it, I tune into this thread regularly because the idea of an item nobody knows how to get is thrilling and one of the few lasting challenges a game like this can offer.

I agree, though, that the idea that someone could’ve actually be doing the things required to get it and nobody has simply due to RNG is a fairly disheartening aspect to it.

I think we are looking at it in the wrong way. Its suppose to be a rare specific boss but what does “rare” mean? I dont think that a boss at the end of a meta event or any other event chain can be considered “rare.” What I mean is they spawn all the time regularly so long as someone does the events that start the chain and then we have to wait till the chain restarts again. So I think that “rare” would be a boss that cannot spawn by itself overtime but rather one that has to spawned by special means.
Like opening the tombs with Dwarven Keys in Dredgehaunt Cliffs.
But the only specific boss like this that makes a chest spawn that I can think of is the Champion Steam Ogre for which to get to we need the Matrix Cube Key.
Now as strange as that may seem that boss does fit in as rare, specific and chest spawning. He is kinda like a “bonus” boss and those are most often considered rare in games.

How I interpret this is that it doesn’t necessarily mean an event chain. I’m interpreting this as in when you code something a certain event must take place (i.e. a boss dying) in order for the chest activate. Can we get a clarification on this at all?

how does this rule out dungeons?

from page 2:

I have some terrific new information everyone. I talked with Mr. Vaughn this weekend and here is what I was told in quotes.

After saying I’ve looked for clues and the staff in AC, and run Zho’qafa catacombs a ton of times, I asked him if he can atleast tell me if its in the open world or not.
“I can’t give away any spoilers, but I can confirm that I’ve looked at the loot tables, and it is in the game. It’s a very rare reward from defeating a boss in the open world.”

I asked him if there were any clues besides NPC dialog that could hint on where it drops
" I don’t know what clues might be present, sorry. Good luck!"

Finally I asked him about the conflicting hints between him and Ms. Murdock about how she said it drops from a Large (no classification as large so this could mean 3 different kinds of chest) boss chest and him saying it drops from a rare boss, I asked is it from a chest or a boss?

“That’s a distinction that I can’t really make, sorry.”

So ill probably set off on an adventure doing every Meta event in the game trying to find chest that may be considered large. I’ve done zho’qafa so many times I’m still a bit weary if it drops from there. I would like it to be connected to lore or at least have some kind of connection to where it drops, but there are no promises. Will be an interesting week. If anyone wants to join me on this, I’m on Yak’s Bend.

Extra note: Also, some very unique events https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/events/Defeat-the-Ministry-Guards-event/first do not spawn a Chest.
I checked out events from Gear Crank & Dwarf Keys too. Gear Crank event, the boss is not lootable with no chest. Dwarf Keys, Imp Lord and Destroyer Troll have a itty bitty chest in the room they spawn in. (videos online)

My group just finished this meta event for the second time just to comfirm. The event very enemy heavy, and a suffers from wall glitchs. The chest that spawns at completion is very small. Couldn’t you get one GW dev to earn the item legitimately, just to prove, once and for all, that it is possible to earn legitimately? You would think that by this point at least one person would own the thing.

With how low the drop rate is, and the likelihood that it’s a group event (so the Anet employee would need help from the community or from quite a few Anet employees) makes that not a real viable idea. The best Anet could really do (without revealing more about it) is to attain it on the test servers.

Could I request two things?
First could you tell us of any other weapons that have a similar drop chance? Could help us to grasp how rare it is.

Second could you plead to your bosses to let you (and maybe a few others) visit Lions arch with it equipped for a little while to show it off. If you happen to stand facing in the general direction of the map the event is in then we can at least narrow or search to less than every zone. Even eliminating a couple zones helps.

Thanks in advance. Would love a chance to see people freak at seeing someone in Lions arch with it

That would prove nothing though, since the test servers have frequently had cases where something worked fine there, but then faceplanted on the live servers. I think it’s reasonable to suspect that this is a case where everything looks perfectly fine on paper, all the numbers in the flowcharts seem to be in the proper place, and yet for some inexplicable reason the thing just doesn’t work on live.

GW2 needs more stuff like this in the game. Keeps the PvE stuff fun and makes people do events in the game they normally would never do and go places they normally would never go. It actually makes the PvE stuff in the game outside the dungeons fun and exciting.

I say add more cool skins for us to go treasure hunting for.

So, after reading a reddit post, posted about last month this same time, im rather convinced the home of final rest is zhoqafa catacombs, at the end of the chain where you kill the eye of zhaitan. There also may be a good reason why it hasnt been obtained yet. The area is 70-75 and final rest is a lvl 80 weapon meaning only 80’s could pick it up, but, most of the 80’s wont be in that region farming. Straits of devastation, let alone zhoqafa, is a lot less popular than malchor, and finally cursed shore. It does sewm odd that a higher level weapon would drop in a lower level area only, but if its true it may explain why it hasnt been obtained yet. Like I said, the majority of the few who did complete the event chain were lvl 70-75’s.

I doubt Anet wouldnt notice something like that. The reason being that if it does srop from a major/popular boss, grenth, melandru, teq, etc. then id think anet would realize something is seriously wrong with the stats since collectively the players have killed each of those bosses at least a 1000 times since release. They did say the drop rate is very low but I doubt that low. Id still guess its in orr, just a much less popular legendary boss, like the one I suggested in the zhoqafa chain. The reddit user I had seen mentioned something interesting. He said during the final part of the chain where they meet the eye of zhaitan, he says something like “you have disturbed my FINAL RESTING place”. Along with thr fact that the people in the chain mention searching for something valuable

Hmm, how ‘bout the Catch and defeat the skritt thief event.
I mean, its a rare event (I did one before at Frostgorge Sound near the trolls), technically there’s a chest, the skritt can be considered as a boss or somewhat, tough its not a legendary boss :/

Anyway, just throwing some idea. Also I think that this item can now be considered as a True Legendary weapon, with all the hype and hunting for it. Good luck to all

I did the Zho’qafa chain and after blocking an unsavory person who believed they were better than me because they farmed CoF path 1 thus making 50g a day (How? Magic Find is a broken stat, and DR kicks in after a few runs.)

So as I was going through the chain and the unsavory person informs me that the mob at the end only spawns every 3 hours, and is the one that has a chest. (Thankfully they moved off to do Balthazar.) I got to the end with myself, and about five other 80s with me.

I slay the Eye of Zhaitan, which is a joke a real joke, and open the large chest. It’s bigger than a Dragon Chest, but it has the same model. Sadly all I got were the deterring blues and a single green.

While the boss does mention a final resting place I do believe that it’s flavor text at the moment.

Event: (Incase someone doesn’t want to know what the event contains)

Atleast TWO Risen Abominations
Atleast ONE Champion Ooze of the Translucent variety
Consumes several minutes, and goes by slowly if there is not enough people. (Circle strafing is STILL a viable combat tactic to this day, if you’re using a melee weapon and have a pillar.)
Eye of Zhaitan is the final boss of the event, and the triggerer of the chest. You disturb his final resting place by having one of the priory people look for something old and ancient, and rattle a sarcophagus.

If a Skritt suddenly died in Harathi Hinterlands for no reason, and proclaimed “THIS IS MY FINAL RESTING PLACE!” people would be all over it.

However, seeing the Staff is something Gargoyle-like, and what not. Anyone know of any events in the Ascalon region of the world that seem rare and people rarely do? Thinking it’s in Orr is a bit close minded in the speculation stage of this item. Also that staff looks out of place in terms of location. I think I’d find it in Cursed Shores or in an area around The Wall.

Edit: Has anyone done that Demagogue event in Aurora’s Remains? Why I point this out is that there are White Mantle ghosts, and Shining Blade ghosts here. Granted this isn’t a resting place a lot of said white mantle and shining blade died there during battle when the Shining Blade was the uprising against the old Krytan rule (I think. I got to this mission in GW1 and then stopped.).

From what I read is that there is crystal running and the like. Since this is a nod to the Aurora Glade mission from GW1 there might be a chance that this area also might have Final Rest on it’s loot table.

my theory is it is in the strait of devastation.. perhaps at the zho’ catacombs.. or somewhere in the water.. since everyone hates the water. also the WVW events do have gigantic chests. I think i remember seeing that it is not in WvW.. but don’t much care to go through 8 pages again. since he said he isnt commenting on the size of the chests.. or the status of the boss.

i beleive water event would be most likely considering i have never seen anyone farming the underwater events ever.

I still think Font of Rhand is in the running- especially if the size of the chest is not confirmed.
It is rarely done, it is in Ascalon and the final boss is underwater.
I know I’ve said it before but it is the best I can come up with- feel a bit like a headless chicken looking in all directions :P

Also doubt Anet would not notice:
Godskull glitch
21 Karma exploit
Snowflake exploit
CM story money runs
Balthazar event chains and other event chains broken constantly for months
Cursed Shore farm
Plinxx Farm
Grenth Farm

Oh wait….
