Game Updates: Guild World Events, Megaservers, WvW
Reporting a major bug with the 15th April update.
It’s been identified and called MegaServer. It breaks the game as we knew it. Please fix/remove it. Thanks.
[DV] – megaboss community
I’ve logged into DR, and the first thing I’ve seen are people arguing and insulting, while prior to this the map chat was always calm and polite. I’m from Piken Square.
I asked in the map chat who was from there, only three people answered me ‘Piken’. What happened to the ’You’ll be merged with people of your server’ thing? I can’t recognize a single name or guild name, all those people I’m crossing the path of are people I never met, and surely don’t want to considering their animosity or trolling level. And it’s only early noon in Europe, I can’t imagine what will happen during the evening.
I actually can’t understand WHY cities are megaserved. The megaserver was the excuse to make the game feel more alive, for world bosses and game content. I can agree with that, I don’t mind at all crossing the path of other players when I’m leveling. But why, in the name of God, why the cities have to be megaserved? They have no world event, no world boss, no skillpoint. There’s NO REASON for them to be megaserved other than for Anet to say ‘Look, our game is full of players, come and join in!’ to lure naive customers in and rob them from the content of their wallet.
Give us back our cities at least, and stop steamrolling the whole world map into this megaserver stuff that you obviously never tried to fix.

My possible solutions to make it less of a giant lag autoattack spamming anonymous drama:
- Reduce the number of people that are mixed into each map. Stick to that +225% figure you mentioned in the feature pack preview and not +2250% which is what happened now. Compared to the maybe 5 others I saw prepatch in Rata Sum there are now at least 50-100 others.
- Add extra areas with target golems to the Hearts of the Mists. There are not enough of those to test damage or builds with this number of people.
- Do split up language servers from international servers. I don’t want to see German, French or Spanish randomly chatting everywhere I go and I don’t want to risk turning all of their chat off through that new option. I’m sure some of them do adapt to a mostly English map and can have something useful to say.
- Add a drop down list of servers/maps to choose from like districts in Guild Wars 1. Make it so that the next district is created at a minimum of ~50 people in the other districts so you still save some on server space, but also let players have the choice of picking what district they play in. Easier for guild missions and mega bosses. Close a district if there are less than 20 people in it for over 15 minutes, then show a popup like the inactivity kick or new build available thing “This world is closing down in 5 minutes. Finish your business here and move to another district”. Only if this was an extra copy of course, don’t close maps that only have 1 copy running anyway.
- Keep at least 1 map/city with access to most services server based. This gives us the possibility to stay in touch with the server community many of us have been working kitten. Advertising for WvW events for example is crap with people of the enemy servers in that same map. And no, don’t make this the home WvW borderland because I guess some servers have constant queues.
- I have no solution for this yet, but is one of my most important issues. I want to feel like I actually contribute to an event. I have not done much random exploring on megaserverized maps yet, but world bosses are awful and I imagine more events will be like that. I can do my best and do all I can for one of the world bosses or I can set autoattack on the world boss and make dinner, it’s no difference. The world boss will die in record time regardless of me being there. I have no individual value and no fun. I am now useless, as opposed to a month ago where I could for example be last man standing in a struggle of 4 players against the fire elemental. I now feel more like trying to mess things up to not be like everyone else. I dont care if someone downs that I dont know and will probably never see or at least recognize again, they dont matter for the event anyway. (theoretically speaking of course, because I have learned to revive downed players or risk failing the event due to the lack of players)
TL;DR
Lower the amount of people megaserver puts together, make map districts dropdown list, split languages, keep at least 1 city server based and bring back individual value.
+1 all that Scars said, especially

City: I want to have a place where I know I can find my community. Being LA or the new hub or whatever. (BTW, are we ever going back to a city as a central hub?).
WSR has an awesome community, I don’t want to need a huge friend list just to communicate the people. I have a small guild because I like playing in a small guild, at the same time I help other people in WSR so we can play together to a common goal, being playing in WvW or killing a World Boss.
With the new system, I guess my only chance to kill Tequatl randomly with people I don’t know. Earlier I did it with my community. Maybe to Anet this don’t concern, to me a lot.
I like the megaserver on some maps where I can find other people to do group event on casual exploration. But that is all the good up to now.
The idea is great, but has its flaws otherwise we won’t have hundreds of replies with the same tone. Suggestions are there, I hope we won’t have to wait a month or so to hear a “Soon™” reply.

Same. Came here to contribute to the qq thread, but everyone seems to be on the same opinion.
The problems are clear, the solutions are listed, an official response is due.
Leaving my +1 to the general opinion. Megaserver is cancer, and it will devouver the soul of this game.
When I looked up reviews of this game 1,5 years ago the most dominating reason that everyone had to mention was the awesome community. Which was the reason I bought this game, instead of playing a f2p. That means this game right now can provide NOTHING that any other MMORPG couldn’t. A horrible community, unbalanced PvP and a gamemode soon to be unplayable thanks to hackers and lag, called WvW.
NCSoft will only get more money if players keep playing. Players who are not enjoying the game will not keep playing. Now look at the past 16 pages, and explain how this is worth it for anyone?
Megaservers have been a complete disaster for this game! I’ve had never seen so trolling in map chat before until now, I no longer feel part of a community and half the time I don’t understand what people are saying as I can only English.
I’m rarely in a map with my guild members when running world bosses, they’re often spread over many maps. Karka queen as an example the map I was on was full so no one in my party could taxi in, I couldn’t to their map as it was also full. On top of this other guild members were spread over different maps as well. How is putting me on a map with players I don’t understand and will probably ever see again a good thing?
I use to be able to run world boss hunts, I loved the dynamic feel of it but can’t do that anymore with the new schedule. My commander tag is completely pointless now, as I rarely do WvW.
Trying to run guild missions was a pain, we couldn’t taxi people in as the map was full, we were competing with our guilds to start guild rush and over bounties. Did no one stop and consider what would happen when you have multiple guild trying to do guild rush at the same time??
Whoever at ANET is responsible for this mess needs to be fired!
After the first disappointing moments directly when it was introduced last week I thought I’d give this feature a try to overcome the danger of premature judgement. So I waited, played a bit in the open world, walked around, did events etc.
Now I dislike this feature even more. Actually not much of open world PvE is interesting to me anymore. World bosses? It feels sooooo epic to be successful in at least hitting the boss just enough to be marked for event success and loot.
Map chat? A nightmare. The quick fix to it? A thoughtless hack that makes things even worse. Organising what is left of your personal community? Next to impossible. I missed the guild mission event of my guild, but asking around in Voice Chat a day later resulted in a lot of sighes and complaints. It took most of the time to get the guild on the same map instance and find an unoccupied mission.
I for myself have started to call the Megaserver feature “the NGE of GW2”.

In before the “corrections”. You are correct. The heart of the NGE was a calculated risk by SOE that new consumers attracted by the changes to SWG would outweigh the loss of current consumers they KNEW they would lose.
Didn’t work out too well for them. Smedley later admitted it was the worst mistake he had ever made.
This topic is basically…hey guys we don’t give a kitten about your feedback and we will do our own thing so we will just jam all the kitten you say into one thing so we can ignore is…thread
Once again, the map loads HAVE TO BE LOWERED. The Cursed Shore has become a real hell now, most often you won’t even get to your Risen before it’s dead. The best game I knew turned into an unplayable nightmare.

Oh so much this.
I understand ANet probably can’t do a statement a la “we will make it better” but having atleast an acknowledge of which they are reading the complains & feedback here, would be more than welcome. This would also make the player feel less ignored.

Don’t judge me, I’ve loved the game since I started, I also have several thousand hours in this game, then megaservers was released. Instead of being put in the same servers as my friends/guildies/people from my server im being put in the same server as germans/french/spanish people. I used to just stand in the main city and talk to my people from my server, without adding them to my friendlist and they were not in my guild, will I be able to see them again? No. Atleast give the server ONE place where they can gather just us.
Also, gathering for WvW at the portals at reset will now be impossible. Standing next to your enemy that you’re gonna be matched up against talking tactics on how to defeat eachother? Yaaay. No, just… no.
Organizing Tequatl and Triple wurm will be impossible due to the constantly full “megaservers” so you cant possibly get more than 50 people into the same zone.
Anet also removed the option to see PvP ranking while doing arenas because of the bad matchmaking. Their excuse? “We removed the ranks so new people won’t be flamed”.
GG at a well failed project, Anet. Have fun.
So is it safe to say that the majority of people are not huge fans of megaservers? Good intentions, bad idea? Because I’ll be honest…any inkling that I had to coming back to the game is being squashed by the thought of megaservers, and having map chat filled with a language that I dont understand, or zergs everywhere (something I already despised), etc…it just seems like such a vile addition to the game. Im having a hard time justifying the mere thought of coming back because of megaservers.
I felt compelled to add my input to the recent changes as overstated and unimportant as it maybe. I understand why the mega server is good and it helped many of the low pop servers find a more populated community and that’s great but for BG and JQ and other high pop servers this has just been a disaster!
My guildies and I are pretty much hating all that the mega server has done for our boss farming and community. We are 400 strong and shrinking because players have decided to stop playing due to the changes. Map loads are too heavy and we can’t even get tags on the bosses half the time. And having to space the bosses out so much has meant that i only get about 5 a day vs the 20 i could have gotten in the same time period before!
I suppose the only good suggestion i have to offer towards fixing the problem is how bout “Channels”? like TERA or Vindictus have? those games i just remember off the top of my head as having a diff way of going about community control. But i know nothing of servers or how they work and if that’s a viable way to go about handling it. Just a thought.
I enjoy about half the changes made in the patch but the other half i hate ^^. So plz fix mega servers, boss rotation/farming, give me back my champ bags and frostgorge, and then tell me how to get my tactical armor.
Anet, did you seriously just turn the entire game into a megaserver deal without addressing the numerous problems players (your customers, remember) have put forth? And without properly notifying us? Because that seems pretty sneaky and dishonest, as does going from the “test things out and see” approach to “let’s just put it everywhere”. You do not seem to be testing if this is good for us, as you have kept rolling it out despite our protests that it is very clearly is not working very well.
None of the things you reassured us with (end up with party, server, guild, friends) turned out to be true, we are having horrific lag and loading issues, guild missions are broken and events turns into zergs making it difficult to tag for credit, communities are broken and roleplayers harassed— the complaints are many. In the light of all this, do you not think you at least owe us a response?
So is it safe to say that the majority of people are not huge fans of megaservers? Good intentions, bad idea?
Not really.
Not even everyone on these forums agree that it is bad.
These forums are a minority of the actual player-base, and based on what I have seen in game, there are not as many people there having issues with the MegaServer as there are here.

A lot of people that are unhappy with megaservers are not posting about it, sadly. In my main guild of about seventy people, no one so far is happy about it and several have already left the game. To some, cutting your losses and moving to a new game is less emotionally draining than repeatedly arguing into thin air, which is what it feels like we are doing when we have thread after thread of complaints without any dev input or acknowledgement that they are paying attention.
With the loss of our communities, one of GW2’s biggest strengths, there is just nothing in this game that other games cannot provide.
I’m starting to dig the speculation that megaservers were never really about populating lower level areas and having people to play with.
It was about shutting down servers and saving a ton of money.
So instead of it being a feature, it was a cost-saving measure.

I’m hugely disappointed by megaservers tbh:
- no more golden tags;
- no more server community and events;
- huge mess for guild missions;
- huge mess for Orr temples, how are we supposed to know now when an event is active
- waypoints costs
- nodes changing every day….
- trolls everyyyywhere, ppl complaining, almost insulting (!) ppl about their languages
- no more WvW communication
- I never felt so lonely in the game nowWhen I first read about Mega, I thought it would take time, to let people getting used to it, and above all to see their reaction and feelings. But no no, you just rushed the implementation, leaving us quite overwhelmed and not taking into account our opinion…
I really hope you will come up with some solutions : maybe give us back non mega cities (or at least one map where a server can meet x.x), instanced guild missions ?I feel like I’ve been evicted from the server I paid to transfer to.
Zones are horribly over-crowded, with sudden drops in fps when a zerg to kill something runs past.
Today I had to re-log three times to be able to rez and help npcs for the heart – they were all alive and kicking on the first two servers I got sent to.Is there anywhere (excluding wvw) where our server and only our server can hang out?
I have to agree with this and all the items listed here. At this point, I don’t see anyone I know on the maps I use to frequent. Note the “use,” because since the mega server – It’s become quite boring.
Hope you fix it soon – because playing mmo’s is a large part about the community and if they take away the communities, you take away a large part of the game.
Megaserver – great idea for smaller maps, horrible idea for largely everything else.

Yesterday, we did our guild missions with about 20-30 players. All german. most, if not all from the same home world, and in the same guild. we ended up on about 3-4 different megaservers.
From your blog post, it is suggested that the megaserver algorithm should prioritize putting me on the same map as the people i play with. why is this not the case then? Why spread it out onto pretty much every map when it still isnt working right?
I just dont get it, being an IT guy myself, that is, but i am in no position to judge. Though, working in the field, i find that some of those things released shouldnt have made it onto the live servers, atleast the way they currently are. wait, i just judged it. well, my bad.
Can you please fix the megaserver algorithm so that it properly puts me on maps with german people instead of throwing me into the overflow-land? And if you finally do so, please remove or atleast adjust the chat filter, because as of now, it only hinders me even more than it helps, as a player, seeing how i had to change my language settings to german(i am german but use the english client, just pointing that out) so that i can actually communicate with my friends and community, because the filter simpy wouldnt allow me to as it filters by client setting instead of giving me an actual choice. Many players prefer english over their native language when it comes to games, simply because the localized translations tend to be quite bad, synchronization included, and with this filter, you didnt take any of those players, including myself, into consideration.

I had a similar issue with trying to get my party of 3 into the same instance as I was in to help do Shadow Behemoth. They didn’t load in with me and when they tried to switch to my instance of Queensdale, they couldn’t get in. All guildies, all same party, different maps when SB popped. We failed SB, btw, because we only had 10 players or so doing it. And no, I’m not good enough to solo SB … yet.
My issue with the megaserver concept before launch was that it destroyed the concept of home server unity. Many of the servers have their own forums and promote it within map along with the various VoIP system they use. This is not possible to do now since anyone from any server could be on the map.
However I was willing to give it a chance in hopes that it would not destroy my love of the game.
So far, I am not impressed. Contested waypoints are an issue that need to be addressed. What is the point of having waypoints if you can’t use them to go into another map. If your guild is running in Frostgorge and want you to run with them, how do you get there exactly if you don’t load into Frostgorge right away (this is after megaserver rollout on all maps)?
I get that others may want to play with other people and that megaservers are supposed to provide that type of game experience. However you have left out a large part of your user base with this move. I don’t wish to play with tons of other people. I avoided maps like Queensdale for that very reason.
If you insist on destroying the quality of gameplay on the PvE maps then please consider putting the cities as home server bases. Or take the suggestion put forth and give us an option to not play on the Megaserver.

I would say that the playerbase wanted people to play with in low level areas. I would say that this technology was probably not the best way to accomplish it given the nature of how the game is structured.
I still think building a system to encourage players to play in zones he/she wants to and be properly rewarded would have been a better alternative, in conjunction with closing some servers due to low population anyways.
I fear this has created more problems that it didnt even solve.
I feel this is the wrong direction for this game. I’ve seen a lot of feedback on ESO, which uses the megaserver also. Nothing good has been said. I also don’t see how this is going to work. Guilds are not put together for missions. I agree with a poster elsewhere on the forum that said that having many servers in one area breaks things for WvW, as people often gather in the hubs before reset. Yes, everything is full, but these people are not “my” people. I also think that having too many people doing anything destroys opportunities for many to get any reward, since bosses and even mobs just get burned down way too fast.
Overall, I the only good thing I’ve seen or heard about the megaserver that is maps that previously felt unpopulated now seem more alive. But at what cost? I feel the cost is simply too high, and I’m hoping there is another alternative, and that ANet will roll things back to the way they were.
On a personal note, my guild used to run the world boss train at reset. This got everyone on our server together for events every single day. Now, that does not happen. This is not bringing the community together. It’s actually doing the exact opposite.
A lot of people that are unhappy with megaservers are not posting about it, sadly. In my main guild of about seventy people, no one so far is happy about it and several have already left the game.
And the vast majority of those that are happy with them are not posting either, so I don’t really see that as a strong argument for most people disliking it.
It was simply a response to you giving the impression of waving our concerns off due to not everyone on map chat voicing their dislike for the change at all times.
I try not to waste my time trudging through these (or any other) forums, or read miles of patch notes, I tend to like and enjoy JUST PLAYING THE GAME. When today I logged into Divinity’s Reach to attempt to do some WvW recruiting for my small WvW guild I noticed there were about a BILLION people in little old D/R. I was completely flabbergasted, not to see so many people, but to learn that they were actually a mix of people from ALL SERVERS. From this so called “megaserver” from recent patching of the game. While I was trolled from so many different people from so many different servers I coined this “MEGASTUPIDSERVER” because the idea is HORRIBLE (and I would venture to say “stupid”). How am I supposed to recruit people that may have never played in WvW before from PvE, for my small WvW guild? Especially when everyone in town now, is from ALL servers. This is absolutely the most STUPID thing EVER! Nobody is going to PAY to transfer to join my small guild and I to play some WvW. Despite being trolled and told to just “go recruit in WvW” – which may I add is just as stupid sounding to me as this whole “megastupidserver” thing, because those aren’t my targets for a few reasons. First of all they already play WvW, so there’s no need to recruit them for it if they’re already IN IT, secondly chances are if they’re in WvW they’re already IN A guild, if not the one I am recruiting FOR! So, that is also a stupid idea, “just recruit in WvW” – yea, great idea >.< </sarcasm>
I seriously, SERIOUSLY, hope this FATAL flaw is reconsidered and reverted back to what it once was. Each server needs it’s own sanctity, besides WvW, unless you’re trying to kill WvW. In which case I would cease playing and would also cease recommending this game to family, friends, associates, and colleagues… Seeing as WvW is the only real reason I play! I’ve always said WvW is so enjoyable it could be it’s own game!
ANet, I implore you to revert this to what it was before too much damage is caused!

Just going ahead and saying it, the mega server system may have worked on the drawing board but it’s functions are broken. Guild Mission’s alone have become a nightmare to manage. World Event’s with your guild / friends also is pretty much a flip of the coin. Even if you are in a party odds are you will end up on another map.
Just give us Districts, and this issue will be resolved entirely.
I feel that this topic will take the road into an abyss like every other topic where theres an outpour of unhappy players. Ascended gear topic being one of them. We will voice our opinions into threads upon threads until eternity. Arenanet will make a tweak here and there but its highly doubtful the changes would be large enough to fix WvW reset nights, to fix the zergs roaming on many maps, to fix the chaos in Cursed Shore, to fix the language issues, to fix the trolling between rival servers… I think that arenanet will take our comments, sweep them under the rug and continue on with their vision of what the game should be.
Much like how Ascended gear was handled. They heard us, they heard us, and then they heard us some more, and even opened the floor to a CDI….and other than ascended gear being account bound, its still a highly controversial topic and littl emovement has been done onto it to alleviate the pressure.
Eventually, we will all accept the cold hard truth of megaservers, quiet down on the forums, and all is well with the game because you all will have conceded.
I dont think arenanet has the ability to make drastic changes or do a 180 on their design direction, or admit their mistakes. They could have with ascended gear and chose not to. They could have made significant changes to how the LS was being handled, mid way through, but didnt.
…..Annnnnd I just changed maps hoping it was only certain maps (don’t remember where I was hearing that [that it was only certain maps]) to see a LOT of people ‘trash talking’ in relation to WvW. This is TRULY the most HORRIBLE idea anet has had.
I REALLY hope something is done here!
I also all short of begged to PM with a GM/anet employee, and I’m guessing none are on because they don’t want to see the fallout from this HORRIBLE decision!!!!!!!!!!
Again, I IMPLORE you to revert this change ANET !!!

I already stated my dislike for the megaserver, however, it has now turned to HATRED. I’m thrown into maps with immature bigots spewing out hate for everyone, especially the RPers with slurs like “gay” and “kitten”. SoR may not have been the best server but we had few trolls of that immature level.
I have difficulties completing hearts and dailies because of all the inconsiderate nincompoops killing things without letting others get a tag in.

As an unannounced change, last patch seem to have changed default cross-map state of many megaservered waypoints. I hope this is a sign that they decided to review and fix some of their basic mistakes of the new system.

Speaking of guesting…
Guesting was put in place so that players can test the waters of another server without transferring, or play on a server with their friends from another, or to simply complete some content.
Now that its all one server, am I correct in assuming that guesting has completely gone away? Since its one server, who cares about guesting anymore? Was that wasted development time, money, effort? Seems arenanet loves to tinker with crap on live servers for a while before realizing the error of their ways.

Guesting effects (or at least should) which MegaServer you end up on. So it is still relevant.
As for “wasted development time, money and effort”, wouldn’t that basically mean that they should never ever in any way or for ever evolve or change anything in the game? Since that would mean they “wasted” all those stuff when they made the original version of the thing, right?

As for “wasted development time, money and effort”, wouldn’t that basically mean that they should never ever in any way or for ever evolve or change anything in the game? Since that would mean they “wasted” all those stuff when they made the original version of the thing, right?
After reading so many of this guy’s posts, I’m convinced he is a troll. Or a hambow warrior. Or both….

Felt like I needed to drop a note here but it’s hard for me to sum up what I’m trying to say constructively so I’ll make it as short as possible.
Why in hell’s name are the major cities/boss events affected by mega servers? The former acted as a community hub and the latter was perfectly fine before considering you could -guest- to a server. Anyone that was remotely serious about world bosses had trackers or were in a guild orientated toward them the changes negatively affect both.
Major cities, Divinity’s Reach, Black Cithadel, The Grove and Rata Sum don’t need mega servers they don’t have any content that requires a group, they were only ever used as community hubs and DR moreso.
You kept WvW out of this so why aren’t you keeping them out of it? Why should I be punished because someone rolled on a low pop server or can’t be bothered to click guest? Adding up the major posts together, the main threads have had A LOT of views. (There’s a post with the view count somewhere, it’s something like 87000.)
I’m not sure what you guys at Anet are doing but ignoring everyone here isn’t going to make the problem go away, you can’t force something down someones throat and expect them to smile.
No one’s expecting you to pander but I don’t really see how rolling back a few changes would be so bad, do it now before the damage is permanently done..
Unless you’re pulling an NGE I suppose, have fun jumping through hoops for the asian market when Archeage, Black Desert and EQ next come rolling out. Something tells me you’re going to need it if you’re going to alienate your already established player base for a percentage in one of the worlds most fickle/MMO dominated markets.

Hate the mega server or “trying to fit as many people into same servers” the idea was and is not even good, if you want to save server, merge them.
Dont just trow serveral servers and people into a mixing bowl and pour them into a few servers, it ruins the community and there are far to many people in the servers.
Even the whole idea of “being put with friend, guildmates and known people” is a huge fail, for instance the wife and i have more than 3.500 hours in the game being in same guild (our own) same party and helping each other (not total amount of hours but hours together), yet it still feels the need to put us in different maps.
If 2 people with that many hours are not even put together, then it clearly shows that it is more random than a actual code/algorytm, and that you have given up.
So please, get rid of this worthless Mega"saving"server and merge servers instead of this if you so desperate need to save money.

This is Zerg Wars 2.
You need not communicate with other players here, we auto block players of different languages for you.
You need not form communities with other players. We will form temporary ones for you.
You need not recruit for your guilds, for you shall not know if other players are from the same server as you.
You need not ask for new things in the gem store, we will provide an ample amount of skins while changing existing items in order to refresh you and alleviate you of your soul destroying cash.
You need not look for players, for we will place you with as many as possible.
You need not learn to play, the zergs will kill for you.
You need not think, you will zerg.
Zerg now.

So the fire ele event just failed on the Mega Server I got stuck on because they dam, event was stuck, and the escort part would not start, the other mega server the rest of my party got on the event was successful, SO BLOODY BRAVO ANET, good job on further alienating your players.
Further more, now that Orr has went megadisaster we no longer can tell when the temples are under attack, because every dam waypoint is contested, so you removed armor repair costs but make us waypoint twice to get to an event, so now when an event gets stuck in Orr no one can do anything, infact any event in the game now affects your entire playbase, you claimed this would fix the economy yet have you seen the price of T6 mats, it goes without saying that if you remove everyway possible to get them, the supply drops, alas giving your track record at fixing stuck events id say the message is clear, if you want to play more than an hour a day, get out and find a new game, as we don’t want you here,
I really really pity anyone who picks this game up new believing all that PR crap that was put out, as people are in for one hell of a shock.
You have successfully turned a somewhat decent game into crap, world events are not just 1 big purple bubble, with hoping that by pressing 1 long enough you will get the reward, press it 1 to little times and NO LOOT for you. So like it was said in another topic, bravo to the anet PR team who managed to merge all 24 NA servers and spin it off as a good thing, and avoid the dying numbers, I guess the megaserver will work once you drive off another 50% of your population.

A megaserver opt out feature would be really nice for those servers who had a good thing going (daily run at a specific time of day) But I guess it’s too late to put that genie back in the bottle, and getting an entire server on board with opting out probably wouldn’t work now.
There is nothing I can say that hasn’t already been said. Although ANET probably had good intentions it was a bad idea plain and simple. The megaserver roll out needs to be rolled back to where it came from and out of GW2.
Guesting does effect the system I have tested this by going to Tarnished Coast to do some investigation on how I see it effecting roleplay so I can speak semi-informed on the matter. I found no problem at all finding what I was looking for. I found 3 separate instances of role play. One player even came up to me and I assumed was trying to start a role play session with me. Sadly…. I have had bad experiences with roleplay in the past so I did not feel comfortable participating.
I feel like the idea was good the design was good(A better way to ferry players would be useful. Perhaps make the Join in feature more accessible I don’t think a lot of people would think without knowing or someone telling them to right click on a profile to join their instance.). The configuration could use some improvement. The expectations of the players I think were rather high. The result is a lot of players being rather upset.
I voiced my feedback in a different thread in General Discussion. As above, I’m adding my voice to this: the megaserver idea was probably a good idea in theory, but horrible in the sense that existing communities are being destroyed at an alarming rate.
You certainly don’t need me to explain the economics of hurting your community player base.
Having time to sleep on the idea of megaservers, I’ve come to the conclusion that it still sucks.
EVEN IF MEGASERVERS WERE WORKING PROPERLY, THEY WOULD STILL
1) Destroy server communities
2) Provide ample breeding grounds for the trolls across all servers to congregate to spout their ugliness
3) Make organizing for the big world bosses a logistical nightmare
4) Make it difficult to get event mob tags because mobs die so kittening fast (I guess it’s my fault, I made the mistake of playing S/F S/P mesmer, better reroll staff guardian)
5) Turn guild missions into a lot of waiting as everyone and their mom’s guilds are trying to do the same missions you are
And on top of all that, THEY DON’T EVEN WORK PROPERLY, as evidenced by
1) Inability to make sure all party members enter the same megaserver
2) Inability to make sure all guild members enter the same megaserver – yet another hassle for guild missions
3) Inability to make sure you get put on a server with people who speak your language
I wanted to give megaservers a fair shake, but they are basically the worst of all worlds. I’ll take half-empty mid-level zones over this hot mess any day.
