Actually I think I’d be ok with it if the missions did not need to be unlocked with more than influence. Bounty hunting needs yes, lotsa influence – but the others seem to also require guild merits that can only come from bounty hunting. Stupid design in my opinion.

I wish ANet would also add some guild related features on the guild panel, like last login date and time, last representing of this guild date and time, how much influence a member has gained for your guild individually, and other guilds your members are part of.

Btw Anet, you created this thread to respond to our questions and worries. I’m still waiting for answers to my questions and there are are many others also waiting for a response to their concerns… Given your forum has quite good moderation I’m going to assume you’ve kept up to date with all these posts so I expect a reply within a few hours. I did ask my questions -yesterday- after all.

Yeah, I’m not gonna hold my breath.

With the introduction of these quests you also really need to DEFINE what a “guild” is to you. Because to us it’s a small group of tight knit people. To the game it can be even one person. To others its a large mass of anonymous folk. When you say this content is for “guilds” it’s rather ambigous. Before it was ok. But now if you are specifically making content for 10+ people, perhaps you should disallow “guilds” to exist with less.

Or better yet, just scale your content accordingly.

For sure they can no longer claim Guild Missions are for “dedicated players”, because being in a large Guild doesn’t make you a more dedicated player-just a member of a larger Guild. I am super dedicated to my own Guild, and play almost daily-my “sin” is that I won’t join a humongous Guild for (what I consider would be) selfish benefit. I don’t mind others enjoying large Guilds, but I rather represent my own, and am being punished for my personal preference.

This is totally different than Fractals, BTW. I don’t complain that I won’t get Ascended gear, because I don’t do them much. So I am not being a troll, and I feel this is indeed a legitimate issue that can be very harmful to the game and the community due to disappointing many players enough for them to leave forever.

I want GW2 to thrive, therefore I would want the Guild Mission system revamped for the benefit of everyone: the developers, the game, the large Guilds, AND the small Guilds-in short, for every player and the future of the game.

The problem people have here is that guilds have yet to have any guild centered content at all, in a game called Guild Wars. You can get bonuses, gear that show off your guild, talk with your friends, or have a nice bank, but no content geared specifically towards your guild. No Guild vs Guild, nothing literally gated by saying you have to be in a guild together. Guild missions and, of course, their rewards was the first thing we have seen where a guild could make something and do it for the benefit of a guild, in content created specifically guild focused.

Now, I do see a disconnect here. There are large rewards for doing these missions, so ANet gated this towards taking time to unlock the missions themselves. I don’t think this is necessarily the best way of handling this issue.

Consider this option. Instead of having a high barrier of entry for unlocking these events per guild, you could have a low barrier of entry and have high costs for upgrading the guild specific rewards for members. For example, you could make Guild Bounty unlock at a much lower influence cost, then have separate upgrades that add the two rares to the reward. Another upgrade would add the chance of a precursor, at a relatively high cost. In addition, make these costs combinations of both guild merits earned through these events and influence.

How does this change the perception? For large guilds, they unlock all the rewards pretty fast. They can make a lot of the events, have a lot of members getting merits, and have the extra influence to get higher tier rewards. Smaller guilds still take a while to get to the nice rewards, like a chance at a precursor, but what do they get to do now? While working towards it, they are participating in those missions. They are able to participate in content that feels personal to them. I think a structure like this would calm a little of the storm and make people much happier.

Complete discrimination against small guilds. Ours is 14 in size and we only have 6-7 dedicated players. As it stands our guild will take months to be able to even try a single Guild Bounty. We just accomplished Art of War 4 and are still 6000 points from tier 5. Then we’ll need another 30000 just to unlock Guild Bounties.
Arenanet put this out of the reach of nearly any small guild. Thanks for thinking of us.

5 seconds of thinking about this led me to this conclusion:

1. start every guild off at guild mission 0 without bogus prerequisites that screw all but the larger guilds/
2. scale difficulty of missions to number of players involved. (hint this already exists with dynamic events)
3. have a happy player base

that is all.

Realistically, there is a lot of feedback here for ANet to sort through, assuming they actually do sort through it. Then internal discussion/debate, assuming there is a political opportunity/invitation to do so. Then time to build/form consensus internally, get management’s blessing, run it past marketing and hopefully avoid some of the botched messaging that was part of the problem to begin with.

That’s a lot of assuming. And you know what results from assuming.

So, no, realistically I do not actually expect a response from ANet on this thread.

Nor, realistically do I actually want one.

The real response will be through actual game mechanics and content. That will be their bottom line answer.

And frankly, given the pattern of responses that do not match action with the game, what they actually do with the game is the only response I would trust as “definitive”.

The new content is there. As is.

Unless that actually changes, ANet has already given its response.

The customers always have the right to respond by accepting, tolerating, or voting with their feet.

That is the choice my guild is currently debating.

I guess it’s time we sober up. We’re not really in the right here given that our small guilds can still at least have fun with larger guilds and benefit from their banners. Getting that ~15% increase on my earring slot isn’t as big of a deal I made it sound earlier. Quite frankly, now that I think about it for the sake of a stable community we do need something everyone can strive to achieve and if Guild Missions are that thing so be it. I might have to join a big guild sooner or later even as an alt to my main guild, but so be it if that adds some permanence to guild activity in the game. Lets face it the freedom given to everyone to be in multiple guilds just kills the whole idea of a guild in the first place. It’s much needed as it is. I’ve already seen so many guilds bleed players to death that I’m growing tired of it.

I’m going to see how the game goes in the upcoming months or at least until the end of the F&F patch chain. After all the only reason we are all upset is because we like the game and don’t want to see it go to hell like many other MMOs.

Just please no more currencies, stick to the ones you already implemented. It’s just bad if you want more player to learn the game.

Firstly, I hope this doesn’t pan out to be another “Lost Shores” faux paw. The community and game took enough of a hit from that one.

Secondly allow me to tell a little personally story that kind of sucks.

Back when free transfers were closing up, my server experienced a mass exodus out of fear and panic. Eventually, my ‘big guild’ that I was in was faced with a decision and ultimately decided to ‘leave a sinking ship’. This then caused me to be faced with a decision, do I go with this large guild of new people who’ve I become accustomed with since launch or do I stay put on the server with my ‘small guild’ of IRL friends and family. Ultimately I stayed put which was the ‘obvious’ decision to me but was extremely hard to accept. (I didn’t want to have to choose between either and I never should have needed to)

Fast forward to this update and I think you can see how I’m feeling ‘kicked in the pants’ again.

Since the decision to stay I’ve been busting my tail trying to organize whenever possible to gain influence. It’s been long and hard (that’s what she said) but we’ve slowly been trudging through it. We devoted a lot of time in getting the guild to a point that’s (mostly) attractive to new members. We’ve finally had people stop instant leaving the guild now that 60% of the buffs are there.

Recruiting people, especially players who care about commendatory has been a very difficult thing to do at this point in the game’s life. I’m kicking myself for not having done this during the head start when there were a lot more people looking for a place to make their home.

Anyway, if expanding a guild with quality relationships wasn’t hard enough, this update really put the nail in the coffin.

In the past so many potential new friends would stop repping due to a lack of ‘constant buffs’ that would couldn’t yet maintain. I don’t blame them, after all we hardly had time to establish a relationship.

Now it’s become almost impossible to get new people to even join our guild for more than it takes to open the upgrade panel. People are aware of this update and they want to do the content, rightfully so.

Because of the huge disparity between large and small guilds, as in Matipzieu KyA’s posts, it’s really feeling like it’s a lost cause trying to build this guild anymore as there’s virtually no interest for new players to join us now.

Ultimately, I can’t help but think back to Anet saying something about no one’s play time is more important. Right now, with the current state of new guild missions I’m extremely feeling like the playtime of large guilds is more important than the playtime of small guilds.

With such an emphasis on scaling and making everything viable, the push to get players going back to previous zones, etc… I’m shocked at the outright polarization that this update has created.

Please fix it Anet.

Seems that with every patch I am more and more mistaken about this game. I got it cause I liked the idea that the open world was where the content was, and that all I had to do was join in. It seemed like a good alternative to WoW, where I always felt excluded from the ‘real game’ or that I wasn’t playing it ‘properly’ because of my lack of interest in raids. I thought this game would be different.

In WoW I still had my own stuff to do though. For example, I set my mind on doing all the fishing achievements and hunted down all those rare mobs to kill. I played it my way. It worked, I had my own epic adventure, but as I said, didn’t feel like the ‘proper’ game. Eventually the sub fee didn’t feel worth it when all my personal goals ran out.

I’m in a close-friends-guild (7 members, fewer regularly online) and as this patch rolled out and I saw the new earrings I knew how it was gonna be. Either join a big kitten guild or get kicked out of the power curve again. I was surprised by the release of new ascended earrings, and even more surprised when the whole “everyone can come help the guilds” boiled down to getting the usual standard event reward when the guild gets the real stuff (kinda like joining a raid and get sod all, except that was sometimes worth it in WoW to see the raid avenues and bosses). I thought this would all be ok for my guild until it was too late and I had already hyped them for this.

There are two things you can say to this. Yes, the earrings are attainable through laurels and yes, they are not at all necessary for playing the way I like to play. However, it is the sour taste of being a second-rate player that gets to me. I can run around and do events all day long if I feel like it. I love doing jumping puzzles, and am actually quite good at them. However, I can only get one laurel a day, the events will eventually give me DR and my jumping puzzle skill is not recognized nor rewarded (if time is money, JPs are a waste of time). Again, I don’t need the gold nor the rewards, but I am very obviously playing the poor man’s game. I didn’t mind fishing achievements not being to peak of the game in WoW, because it had its own niche rewards that were recognized within that community. You don’t get the same JP communities in GW2.

Anyway, I feel I’ve gone all over the place now. My point is, this is not a game where people are equally rewarded for playing the game their way. Now the smaller guilds are locked out of pve content until at least a good few months into the future. Startup guilds will have more difficulty getting members. When the small guilds DO manage to get the influence required, good luck getting the rest of the community to help as they get no interesting rewards for this. Ascended stats are starting to matter. The stat difference is adding up. People are being left out of the power curve if they don’t want to slowly grind laurels (and spend 15g worth of ecto) or join a big guild. WvW players have to go do other things. I could disregard all this and keep on doing DEs and JPs, but to what end? I have nothing to strive for there. I find it hard to set personal goals. This game as of late has been geared towards gaining tons of different currencies to buy ascended items. This is the goal. My playstyle cannot achieve these goals within a timeframe that feels worth it. I can’t pull an all-nighter to hunt for my goal as I did with the WoW Rare mob achievements. I have to do daily after daily after daily. After a month I get one item. Hooray. I’m not feeling fulfilled by this and the game in itself is not fun enough to just log in and play. Sadly, I did map completion too quickly it seems, and grinding events is just… eugh.

I think I should step away from the keyboard now, then maybe step away from the game for a good while.

At least this game doesn’t have a sub fee,

My original Post: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/New-guild-missions-opinions-concerns/page/22#post1532724

The expectations Anet as for the entire guild to stop what ever they are doing and take part in a massive “search party” to me is not set in reality. Their is some fantasy world they live in int he studio where all 300+ employees participate in testing a system out and think that because they could do it with every one on board to do the exact same task that the players will as well.

No, I think their expectation is that the guild will go “Hey we’re doing a bounty in an hour, everyone ready then?” And not just pop the bounty mission on without warning.

Thank you for not reading what I had to say and missing the point.

I run guild events for my guild everyday, We have a calendar system , that can even be subscribed to and commented on. I post a reminder about the event on the websites guild chat (few hours) and in game chat (an hour) before the event is to begin. This has us having full guild groups and overflow of people wanting to join my party, so we also some times make 2 or 3 groups to parallel run the dungeon or meta event in the open world at the same time.

My issue is not with having guild missions, my issue is just because a guild has 20 people online at the same time, does not mean 20 people are going to want to do the same thing. 5 people want to do a dungeon, 3 people want to do dailies, 7 people want to World vs World. They are all playing together, but doing different things.

Just because I have 20 people online in the guild and I post my guild event an hour ahead of time, does not mean those 20 people are going to join in the guild bounty mission. This is reality I was speaking of, real people, playing the game, not some employees being paid to participate in guild mission testing for the day.

The cold hard facts are even my guild with 50+ active members logging in, will have to work at it. I have no issue with putting effort into guild missions and unlocking them. I work hard to keep my community functioning for the last 5 years. I am merely pointing out that the system and the way people play is not exactly how Anet thinks it is.

I am not sure if their tracking system actually keeps track of who is logging in to the game, which guild they are in, or who they are representing at any given time or even if guild members are playing with one another, but it should.
The current system is flawed and improvements need to made, and adjusted.
That is all our concerns are about, no one is saying get rid of it, or hand it out.

The expectations and the outcome was not what Anet thought it was going to be, as a developer you do not make for yourself, but for the users.

Did Microsoft keep making Windows Vista when everyone hated it? No, they improved upon it and made the better with Windows 7, even though we all know it is still basically Vista.

The biggest concern I have is small PVE guilds remaining competitive as it pertains to recruitment and retention.

By placing the first mission at Rank 5 in Art of War, a tier dedicated to WvW in the past (and thus, something many small PVE guilds may have ignored completely up to this point), you are ensuring that smaller guilds who dont have deep wells of influence will not have access to these missions for some time to come – while huge guilds do right away (and will thus become more enticing recruitment-wise).

I understand the need to partition the content and make it something guilds – even small guilds – have to work for. It just seems that the requirements for the initial mission – specifically rank 5 in Art of War – may end up hurting small PVE guilds considerably right off the bat.

Agreed and everyone in my small guild feels the same way. no we are not going to merge/join another to be able to do this. It’s like they didn’t think about anything they put into this patch at all. I call it a patch because of the way it crapped on so many things it can’t be called an update.

After seeing that, I am thinking…Nope. It’s too much like WoW for me now. Are Quaggan’s the next thing to hunt?

One of the things I loved about the game is how positive and nice things were. How your character could actually be heroic. I got so sick of the “hehe torturing” quests and it was wonderful that GW2 didn’t have that.

But now if it takes days to wait for guild mission and it lasts short, on top of that if they are not repeatable i don’t see what’s the point of them, just bring in raids. :P

First, I’m not sure I missed your point, and I’m not sure my comment was taken seriously. I really do think they anticipated the Missions to be events a guild would sit down and plot out a time for since they take such a significant effort. Similar, mind you to an “Urgoz’s Warren Trip”, perhaps? Getting 12 people together and doing the challenge mission way back when? I know my alliance had to actually plan a date a week or two ahead of time to make sure schedules synced up. That’s where I’m coming from with the comment “maybe they expected people to announce and plan ahead rather than just go and turn it on”.

Secondly, I know this is a flawed system. I can see the flaws in it, one of which being the entry cost. (I have not stated otherwise – it’s a significant cost to put into this, both time and ‘money’.) Another is the difficulty of the missions, which I heard was something like 7 targets in 15 minutes at Tier 3. I don’t think that’s really credible for a “small guild” even if you had five true legends of the game involved. Sure, they could probably do it – in six months I half expect to see that like I can see “solo lupicus” videos.

Lastly, I don’t know much about Vista, I do know your example is better seved with “Millenium Edition” since we were pretty much left with Vista for a while before Win7 was released. I wouldn’t know too much . . . I’m ashamed to admit I got used to and enjoy Mac OSX currently.

“But what if my guild is super small?” you may say? Not to worry—all these missions take place in the persistent world, which gives you the ability to rally people from the surrounding countryside and maybe make some new friends in the process!
-Leah Rivera

Yes, in 2 years when my super small guild gets enough influence to unlock them. Sure I could do the content with a mega guild, but I LIKE knowing everyone in our guild. What’s the point of having a guild if you’re just another face in a crowd?

You’d still be on your own for the most part since people have to represent your guild and be from your home world to gain full reward, otherwise it’s just DE type rewards.
Would have been simpler to just say “we lied, you’ve now contracted raids” and threw everyone in their own instances.

This is just one more slice of the player base ANet is throwing away.

Exactly. They are just making people that hate activity X irritated by giving them a choice between an Ascended Carrot or to be deprived. Either way, these people are not going to be happy customers.

I love this game. (Free) and just so much fun. i seen this new content coming and was vary happy to see and couldn’t wait. (Small Guild 5People atm just friends) We don’t do PVP or WVW. just don’t care for it. but then the content comes out and i see that my small guild could never do these. i’m disapointed. i would join another guild but i was removed from a large guild cus (1. i don’t have a mic. 2.I wasn’t always active. Don’t have all day to play) so i look at this new stuff and go cool. not like i’ll ever do it. but i been enjoying this game with what it had. just wish more people would get out of Lion’s and Divinity and play in orr more. always to dead. but great content as i can see. wish i could do them but o well i’m going back to what i was doing and enjoing the rest of the game. can’t wait to read about the next stuff

Don’t worry, the next thing will probably be to make you WvW. Enjoy.

Small guild – exclusively family and friends. We are casual players, but enjoy doing things together. Guild missions seemed, as was advertised, an opportunity for us to play together. Whether Anet intended or not, the “entry fee” is punitive to small guilds (yes, I know we can grind for influence and in about 9 months we might have the 53 k we still need to activate the bounties). But, if it truly takes 15 or 20 to complete the missions, my guild will never participate. The new currency/rewards are unavailable to us, as are the rewards that may be exclusive to them. I shouldn’t have to join a mega-guild or change the way I want to play in order to access content in a game that begins with, “This is MY story.”
Just my 2 cents. . .

Why should small groups of friends have access to content we as a big guild piled up assets by doing more content than a casual group of friends? I find it unfair that you would get access by doing less than a concerted effort by medium/large guild piling resources together for one goal.

If you find it unfair that everyone who doesnt belong in a big beehive here deserves to be able to participate in the new content, then I find it unfair too that people in big guilds will have worked, individually, far less than any member of medium or small guilds for these missions, yet they will have access to them. Which is true considering how fast influence is gained in big guilds, some might as well contribute almost nothing and still see the missions unlocking. Does it sound fair to you now? grin

What’s wrong with you people, seriously? All of you who suddenly and without any of the rest (nor Anet, nor small guilds) messing up with your game play, suddenly feel offended and come here not to offer anything to the discussion and solution of the problem , but just to say “small guild is not a guild” or how you “feel” it’s fair people to get excluded from game content just cause they have different preferences in guilds??

I would love to see if say Anet was introducing specific activities and rewards that only medium or small guilds would have access to, what you all lots would say.

The current patch, as it is, doesn’t create big problems for you. You can continue your adventure and enjoy the new content as soon as you unlock the missions (if you haven’t already). No one here is asking for a change of content , only for a change on how this content applies to smaller guilds , so any of the changes suggested by people doesn’t affect your fun in the slightest. And yet you come here to tell us you somehow feel “offended” (what the heck??) and pretty much tell is in a rude manner we aren’t guilds and we need to just swallow whatever Anet is giving us and buy our fun?

This mentality is surreal, if you only post here to be against your fellow gamers, I guarantee you can have way more fun by logging back into the game.

I know there have been some concerns about Guild Bounties being in the Art of War line. Our goal with this system is to give guilds activities and long-term progression that they can accomplish by working together as a guild. These missions are meant to be difficult and challenging to not only unlock, but to accomplish.

We would also like to make every guild upgrade line valuable to every guild. Currently, Art of War is very focused on PvP and WvW, but our plan is to continue to add more guild upgrades in the Art of War line to accomplish this. These Guild Missions are the first step. Along with this system, we also added a number of new guild upgrades that guilds can earn.

In the end, our goal for all of this content is to give guilds new goals and challenges to accomplished once they have researched deeply into each line, as well as require guilds to have researched multiple lines to unlock some upgrades. We expect guild members to have to work together as a guild to earn the influence needed to unlock these new missions, as well as overcome the challenge of the missions themselves.

In the future, we plan to continue to add more guild upgrades, as well as continue to add challenging guild missions, as we don’t want guilds to run out of goals and accomplishments they can achieve.

~Izzy @-’—-

Thank you for explaining the goals. I really like where this seems to be headed.

I’ll admit I was pretty bummed when I read how much these missions cost, my guild will never be able to afford the upgrades, or really do the missions. Like many people in a small guild I don’t want to leave my guild, and enjoy the time I spend with my guildies.

I’m not sure if this has been pointed out yet or not, I’ve only skimmed through the forum looking for the key arguments and the responses. But, one suggestion is to join multiple guilds. I know a lot of guilds frown on this, but maybe this will help open that up a bit more. When my close friends are online we will play representing our guild.

I’ve already been thinking of finding a WvW oriented guild to join up with and represent when I’m doing WvW, as none of my other friends like WvW. Now I can add to my search a guild that needs people for the missions.

This update will more than likely push me to expand into a larger community. So overall I’m really happy with the update, I just have to step outside my box a little first.

this is what im hearing all about. a too small guild cant do it.
so exactly why is it that a 5 man guild expects to siege up Stonemist castle in WvW as effectively as a 40 man guild? not to mention they can bring more to the table and they have a larger force to reckon with.

all the QQ about small guilds not able to be doing it ever, is ridiculous.
the whole aim of the guild missions are to be hard to even unlock not to mention complete. has the community lost the meaning of long term goal? almost most people i have talked to in /map or /team chat for WvW have said they want the legendary’s to be achievable in 3 days. so it just means that their attention span is 3 days. oh wow.

im not in a big ’’guild’’ but im in a great community. im part of a community that just happens to play games. generally during west coast prime time we have 20 ppl online, and im not worried about the influence, because i know the people im playing with are not going to be QQ about it. so our guild now has an optional aim we can aim for just for the fun of it. okay, great. its not like my community has come up with just fun things to do from week to week anyway. 50/50 draws, dungeon story nights, alt days. WvW in an organised way and practicing open field combat with aims.
the guild missions are there to be an extra thing to do, not the only thing to do. people have too much of a flavor of the update mindset. OMG NEW CONTENT, FORGET EVERYTHING AND STRESS OUT AND SPRINT FOR IT!
i have played this game for a while now and i still have around 30% world completion and i have my lvl 80 with exotics. i dont care if theres content i havent experienced, because i get to enjoy my way of getting there.

As little as a week my kitten. Maybe if you’re actually buying influence.

For the tiers alone to unlock if you haven’t got anything in AoW you need 36,500 influence to get to rank 5. Then an addtional 30,000 for the unlock itself. So 66,500 influence from scratch. Smaller guilds are lucky to generate 5000 influence every 2 weeks if they don’t have enough people to do the dungeons frequently.

Now for the other guild missions. First you have to get to rank 5 as well(which of course will cost 36,500 if you haven’t unlocked), plus you also have to spend 50,000 influence AND a few merits to unlock them.

This is simply not going to be achievable for small guilds that don’t have big paychecks to spend on gems anytime in the next 6 months unless they start recruiting every single person they see. Which will be even harder now that the big guilds actually have exclusive things to offer them(missions that give currency to buy ascended earrings).

I think, after having read tons and tons of whining here: Where is the Problem? “Small Guilds have to dissolve into bigger ones”, “People have to chose between friendships and Guild Missions” The Heck is that coming from? If you didn’t notice as of yet, one can have more than one Guild If you are in a small Guild and want to do Guild Missions, represent the bigger one sometimes, have fun, and then switch back to your little family-like Guild. It’s not like you are forced to disband and scatter into few big Guilds leaving everything behind at all…

What were you thinking by not including minor guild bounties for the smaller guilds?

You don’t need to answer. I know your development team wasn’t thinking about it; they were busy designing stuff for the large guilds who have already largely abandoned the game.

I think, after having read tons and tons of whining here: Where is the Problem?

Many small guild members believe they’ll be kicked from larger guilds if they don’t actively represent the larger guild, undermining the value of being in multiple guilds. This was an already existing concern within the community, shared by small and large guilds alike, and one which was exacerbated by this change.

the whole aim of the guild missions are to be hard to even unlock not to mention complete. has the community lost the meaning of long term goal?

Long-term goals are fine when there are also short-term goals alongside it. At this point, even many casuals have run out of short-term goals. This is another system which wouldn’t have received as much flak as it is if it had been included at release.

If you’re expecting to be able to do things just as easily in small guilds compared to big guilds, then that just sounds like entitlement. It’s completely practical, and even if it takes longer, it’s nothing close to what people are moaning about.

I think their complaint is that there’s nothing in the system targeted towards them. It’s entirely tailored for large guilds, to the point that there’s a massive influence dump available to access the content immediately (whereas if there was any small guild oriented content, large guilds would access it immediately without the influence dump).

Maybe in a few weeks, when Anet feels enough large guilds have hastily dumped influence into unlocking the content, they’ll address the issue, but in the meantime it’s just a targeted resource sink.

I love how people scream “ENTITLEMENT!”, even though Anet said that “even small guilds will be able to do them” and then stack this huge kitten wall in front of small guilds and say “Oh but it’s a long term achievement” even though they have previously stated “It can help you pull in recruits by telling the open world it’s happening”.

When in reality you have to have huge pockets or a huge guild to even unlock the initial mission.

And I don’t refuse to run dungeons, nor do I refuse to do anything else. But people have lives, full time jobs, etc. and this game was built to cater to casuals. Saying “You have to spend all your time farming dungeons for influence or buy the influence to do this content” is a slap in the face to everyone BUT massive guilds.

What really seperates big guilds from small ones isnt the influence to start unlocking the first tiers, its the big guilds ability to unlock them nearly instantly.. while smaller guilds have to use upwards of 5 weeks to unlock them.

I honestly don’t get why people can’t stand being in big guilds. It sounds more like a personal problem. You’re surrounded by strangers every time you play GW2. You don’t even need to talk to fellow guild members. If anything, in big guilds, “cliques” form within it, while the remaining 90% of the guild remains silent.

Being in a big guild doesn’t screw up your gameplay.

The only way I see it would is if you want to develop your small guild as a small guild. If that’s the case, why do you even need to make it bigger in the first place? If you want the content simply for the content, but refuse to make it easier on yourself to achieve the content, that’s like saying “I want HoTW stuff, but I don’t want to do HoTW”.

I think it’s every individual’s right to have their own reasons why they prefer a small or a big guild. I don’t understand either why anyone in any game would be in a big guild, as for me the drawbacks are way more than the positive aspects of it. However , I don’t question their decision to be there and if/when a problem that regards them comes up, I don’t wonder why they chose to be in a big guild in the first place , when they can easily avoid the problem by not being in it. There are so many people that traiditionally prefer small guilds to larger guilds, it’s not about some minority of this game specifically, so Anet in my opinion should take into consideration a big part of their player base has a different game style.

I don’t even understand why it has come down to discussing the motives of an individual that is in a big or small guild. It’s plain preference, all should accept it and any changes should be made with that as a given fact. You simply can’t ask people to change their gamestyle however absurd this type of gamestyle seems to you or me or anyone. You can ask though of specific changes, so that all can enjoy content. People in small guilds know well still there will be differences, still there will be stuff you can do more easily if part of a big guild, but those differences already existed in the game (and in games before this one) and everyone was taking the risk because they weren’t excluded from content. Anywho what I’ m trying to say is I respect your point of view that things ain’t so hard as they may seem now, and small guilds can do the content and we can debate with you and everyone on how and if that can be done, but there is no room for questioning why small guilds want to remain small guilds or why people think being part of a big guilds screws them up.

and exactly where is the shortage of SHORT TERM goals?
im still hunting for good looking dagger for my ranger, and a better skin for axe.
honestly i want less short term goals, because there is just soo freaking much, daily’s, pvp daily, FOTM daily. whats next hourly achievments? pleasee no.

im not a impatient little kid who needs to have a carrot hanged infront of my eyes for me to continue going.

im a patient guy who loves having fun with my community and people i meet during my game time. if you want to be part of a large guild, talk to them and ask them if you can join them and get to know them, however when you are being turned down. understand this, people who are content leeches or loot addicted people are not wanted in social hubs because its determental to the whole guild. i dont want to have to play with people whos interests go only as far as their greed. no, thats not who i want to play with or even be associated with! i want to play with friends, people who have integrity and know how to have fun and have thick skin. which is why i found myself enjoying who VexX as a collective are. we love fun, we have thick skin and we aim to do good in what we are playing.

really why is it that small guilds need to be on par with a large guild, whats the point of managing a large guild that is a huge force to reckon with. a collective that can make a difference in PVE and WvW, not to mention dominate SPVP.
so my question is this, why are 5 ppl expecting to do the job of 100 people?

would you really feel safe knowing you are sending 5 people after a criminal that has continuously escaped capture from 50 people, and the criminals target is you? would you really hire the 5 people? NO if you care for the criminal to be caught you would hire the 100.
