I see why I stopped playing; Concerns
Sorry but I might play a bit to try and finish WvW Season 2, but I no longer am addicted. Until they change a lot of stuff, I’m not going to drop another cent at this game.
How do you drop another cent on this game when there is no monthly fee?
You can moan in the forums as long as you want. If you want to hit them really hard, you just stop buying gems. I think lots of people used to do that and I think lots of those people will step away from buying any more stuff if they don’t make the game more thrilling.
That’s the point… Why am I dropping cash on a game that isn’t adding permanent new interesting stuff to the game? Why am I dropping 10+ a month if they almost didn’t add permanent stuff? Where is my money going? I don’t like how it’s turning, so no more gems for me.
It has been proven that sub games offer more bang for your buck.
In fairness Anet has to make a profit and GW2 is not free as many people keep trying to say.
But, The micro transaction model nickle and dimes each and every player if given the chance and the fanboi’s will tell you that you don’t have to spend a dime – but the honestly truth is YES people do have to spend money on the gem shop in order for GW2 to continue to be profitable and stay open.
It costs more for the above then a simple sub fee and you also get more with a sub fee.
Also, This next patch offers many changes but none of which is any type of content. The next time we see something will likely be after season 2 which is FAR FAR to long.

Seriously? Sub games offer more bang for the buck? Where is this supposed ‘proof’ of that claim that you speak of? In my own experiences, I have played several $12-15 monthly games that offer far less. And I know lots of people in game that exchange the gold they have earned in game for gems to get the ‘special’(it really isn’t that special) items, content, what have you without spending a dime of real cash. (Yup, they’re hard core players and play A LOT to get that kind of gold…..hard core players have always been rewarded in mmos)
Sure, there will always be people who buy gems with real game cash……and Anet has set that up to make more money…..they’re a business, after all…..they don’t charge a monthly fee….so of course they want a way to get more cash flow coming in. But it isn’t something that is mandatory for a player to have effective fun in the game, unless you’re some kind of gear freak/gotta have all the extra items-snazzies sort of player.
You must think you have to buy tons of gems with real cash to get anything out of the game, which just is not true.
And yea, there are probs with the game(ALL mmos have their own set of probs/bugs/etc), but over all, IMO, it’s still a ton of fun most of the time.
And yea, I have been on mmorpg forums long enough to know that disagreeing with the whiners labels me as a ‘fanboi’. So what?
It’s JUST a game. Not having to pay a monthly fee is a big deal to me, and I would imagine, a few other players. Buying gems with real money is a choice…..unlike the monthly fee that one is required to pay to play a lot of other mmorpgs.
If you have gotten tired of the game and don’t play, why not just find something else to have fun with, rather than wasting time posting about how awful the game is. Obviously the game wasn’t that bad if you’re still so emotionally attached to it that you feel the need to spew your grief over it all here…..lol.

In all fairness, if the NCSoft managers look at the numbers and are okay with it, they wont change anything which leads to no big changes in GW2.
If they however see that their profit is shrinking, they want to know what’s going on. If now the devs manage to convince the managers to spend more money on developing new content, we could get our big changes.

Good point. And I believe I remember reading something about Anet firing up the game in China…….if that has happened, then they won’t be losing money anytime soon.

That’s a pretty long rant for my very short post.
Just to clarify You do realize GW2 as of today is almost no as it was at release.
You also realize that the amount of permanent content added in a years time is little to none.
Also, If you logged off prior to the LS and took a break for almost a year and came back now you would notice the game is basically the exact same with little to no content added.
This new update coming is something most sub games get every few months – not in a years time.
I like GW2 but you get what you pay for and in terms of content we get very little.
See the relevance?
Loyalty To None
My post was a rant? It wasn’t meant that way. I just tend to get long winded in some of my posts.
Sure, I can see your attempted relevance…I just don’t really agree with it much. Probably because of my own personal experiences with past mmos. There were several that I have played, and have taken extended breaks from, then come back, to not see much had changed, and I was still required to pay a monthly fee. So, I really don’t see the difference that you are seeing between a monthly subscription game and GW2. At least most of the ones that I have played. /shrug
And your one point…..
“Just to clarify You do realize GW2 as of today is almost no as it was at release.
You also realize that the amount of permanent content added in a years time is little to none."…….
Muddies more than clarifies anything. Those two sentences seem to contradict each other. At least that’s the way it reads, imo. And I have to chuckle about the ‘not much has changed’ comment……lol……yea, I have seen tons of people walk into Lion’s Arch after being away for a few months and say, “oh yea, looks just the same as last time I was here”…….lmao.
Also, whether it has been ‘permanent’ content or not…..there have been quite a few updates and content additions since release…..just because you were gone for a year and missed it doesn’t make it the game’s fault.

And fwiw, I have been playing GW2 since a couple months after it’s initial release, but feel free to keep the condescending attitude coming, as it’s quite amusing.

Temporary content isn’t the fault of the players who left, it’s the fault of the players who settled for less and continued to pay for it with cash.
Temporary content on any game is never a good idea, whole years of multiple mmo’s should have also taught you that as well with multiple zones in these virtual places becoming completely devoid of players.
Some of us have been playing since the betas and took time out after experiencing the early game on Beta Weekends to watch interviews with devs talking about what the game would become only to be disappointed at the sheer number of projects and promises dropped, changed, or paused over the course of the first year starting at right around the time that you began playing. So it’s understandable that you don’t really see the issues here because you didn’t experience the early game Teon.
(edited by tigirius.9014)
I initially purchased the game because some of my friends from another NCSoft title came here….and lasted about three months.
Why? Well…it wasn’t fun. It was too grindy. Plus, I still have a ju-on for NCSoft for killing a game I loved.
Since then, I’ve found another RPGMMO that requires a sub that is far superior to this game in every way, and I’m actually enjoying it. I can wander the game’s world and see something to do and go do it. The game play doesn’t seem grindy at all to me.
But, I doubt A-Net cares they’ve lost a customer, as they’ve gotten money from me for purchasing the game initially.
I haven’t played GW2 for nearly a year now.
I thoroughly enjoyed most of the game; I have a couple 80’s and some fairly high PvP-rank characters. Very close to world completion, high level crafting skills, etc.
I decided to see how the game has come in the past months and fired it up again; after a large amount of patching, a good bit of nostalgia, and a couple of hours, I found myself in a state of déjà vu; I got that same feeling of “there’s really nothing to do” again.
How could this be? Months of content and patches being added but still there’s seemingly nothing to do.
Well, you are experiencing the same as every other person too. The game had a great start. So many things to do, so many details. But since then literally nothing has changed. We got one new PvE map, which is as boring as any other PvE map. We got one new WvW map which isn’t that overwhelming aswell. Sure, some nice gameplay elements have been added but you’re just doing what you’ve done before in normal WvW. Everything someone could have enjoyed has become boring and grindy.
Why are you running dungeons for the 300th time? Because the content is that nice or because you want the reward at the end? I know, it’s a pathetic question but that’s how it is. GuildWars 2 had a good start and, exept for QoL changes, no updates.
And the balancing is still a mess.Unfortunately you’ve missed the living story but that was also hardly more than an achievement grind.
You cant’ really say literally nothing has changed and then start listing changes.
Plenty has changed. People who are gone for a year and come back are often lost in the number of changes.
It’s like when you live with someone and watch them grow, you don’t really see them growing, but then a relative comes over and says, omg look at how they’ve grown. There are tons of changes to this game…but not everyone has the same perspective about them.

Actually, I do understand your point. I have been playing mmorpgs long enough to know that devs always make promises in beta and/or at the start of a game…..it’s a given in just about any mmo out there. They are always supposed to put this grand, wonderful spin on the game to draw in interest/players…..some of the changes happen….a lot of them don’t. It’s the nature of the business.
I guess what I am trying to say is that I have experienced mmorpgs that put the same grand designs and ‘promises’ on a game in beta, only to fall far shorter than this game has, while charging a monthly fee. This game certainly wasn’t free, as I paid almost 60 bucks for each of the 2 copies I bought……..but the absence of the monthly fee is a huge plus to me……and I have enjoyed the content, temporary or otherwise, as it has been much better than the buggy and incomplete added content that I have experienced in other mmorpgs.
I can understand how it would be frustrating for some……that’s the reason you left. I have felt the same in the past with other mmorpgs I have played. I guess that as I have gotten older, I just don’t sweat the usual game hype and promises that always accompany a new game…….I have come to expect them,(and not be so naive as to believe most of the promises) as it’s a typical routine for most game companies.
Currently, I enjoy the game. Imo, I am getting really good bang for my buck at this point in time. That’s all that matters to me. The minute I quit enjoying the game on a consistent basis, I will move on to some other game, as I have done several times over the past couple decades+ of game playing, mmo and others…….it’s just not that huge a deal to me anymore. /shrug

• The loot isn’t fun. There’s very little variation when it comes to items, besides aesthetics. While leveling up this isn’t too much of an issue, it kind of dulls the experience at max level. Sure, I don’t have full Ascended gear, but I’m also not very compelled to put a ridiculous amount of time and effort into getting them due to one, these items don’t really have a meaningful impact on gameplay, and two, there’s no gameplay that really merits them.
• Nobody really does dungeons; they skip them. If people are going out of their way to skip content, don’t you think there might be something wrong with the content? Most dungeons contain too much filler and lack real “loot” for your efforts; that doesn’t create a challenging, rewarding, nor immersing dungeon experience.
• Build diversity and overall balance could be much better. Nowadays, it seems like nobody likes you unless you’re full Berserker, using your classes “best” weapon. Doesn’t that seem a little strange to anyone? If balancing between PvE and PvP is difficult, why not just balance them separately?
I don’t think the loot is fun, yes I agree. It’s a game that encourages to get loots and sell almost everything you get and buy everything you need (or use tokens). On top of that, many of the new aesthetic options are GEM-store only. I don’t particularly mind that so much, but soon there will be a feature patch and I think the aesthetic part of this game would be much improved with the much overdue Wardrobe system since you don’t have to spend too much on transmutation crystals anymore. I don’t think horizontal progression is unfun, but without this Wardrobe system, the game hasn’t really encouraged the horizontal progression as much as it should be.
Secondly, that’s actually not the problem with stuffs being placed as “trash mobs”. You are awarded for skipping them efficiently because they don’t give good loots. But as you can see how people can sometimes struggle skipping mobs, and instead find it easier if they were killed (like in TA path Up, many people even if they have a thief, don’t realise that they can skip most of the spiders in the Marona area). Therefore, people who spend time killing them are punished since they are meant to be skipped. The exception to the rule is in COE where the trash mobs give good loots so aren’t considered as trashy. For now, I don’t really care whether Anet will continue to give better rewards for trash mobs in other dungeons, but certainly I have no problem with them increasing the time vs reward table for whatever mobs.
To put this into perspective, do you clear all the yellow non-aggressive mobs in the open world? Do you, when you’re doing your heart quests, only aim at the mobs that you need to fill the hearts, or clear everything else? That’s your own fault for spending your time with unrewarding activities, but if you want to, nobody is there to stop you except if you’re in a group environment where people are more interested in better reward in a time scale, you just shouldn’t join them and form your own group, as others also have noted.
Build diversity is both an issue and not an issue. I agree that all the present content ought to be done most optimally in Berserker’s gear, and they have to come up with the mechanics/different numbers to encourage/discourage certain team comps. But it will be a long way to change the game from making something other than the Berserker’s gear optimum.
While that is true, there are many builds available for a single class. Take the Elementalist for instance. You have D/F, Sc/x, Staff. And in the upcoming feature patch, you can even change your traits from anywhere you want. So you can always use the most optimum trait for any given weapons that you’ll need. A guardian could always then switch between a Hammer build and a GS build. How is this not a diversity of options? I’ll grant you that some classes like the Thief does suffer in this area and it’s nice if they could improve this, but it’s not true that there aren’t build diversities. And this is just for PvE, mind you. You’ll come across with many more GEAR diversities and BUILD diversities for WvW and PvP.

Grindy? You obviously haven’t played a few of the mmos that I have played, as the “grind” in this game is nearly non-existent compared to others in the past. In fact, I would call the grind in those games sheer torture compared to the ‘grind’ in this one.
But to each his own. Glad you found a game that you’re enjoying!

The ONLY problem with your argument is… that:
1. You can buy gems with in game Gold.
and
2. Many of the new games that have a subscription also have a cash shop. And that is a Shop where the Only way to buy items is with cash, NOT gems which can then be purchased with in game gold.
Is there a temptation for some players to NOT be patient, earn the Gold, buy the gems, and instead use cash? Of course there is, but is that Anet’s fault? How hard is it to simply play for free… save up your gold, buy gems… and have whatever it is that someone that uses cash to buy gems can also buy?
Name ONE item that can be bought for cash that cannot also be bought with in game Gold? well the ONLY thing you Buy with cash..is gems… and you can also buy gems… with GOLD.
Last time i checked… the amount of gems you can by with Gold…varies based on demand.
TESO has a subscription fee…and a cash shop.
WoW has a subscription fee…. and a cash shop.
it seems to me that if you were discussing " MMO’s that ONLY have a subscription… compared to MMO’s that have a cash shop" you might have a point.
The problem is, that in today’s market, it’s " MMO’s that charge a subscription and also have a cash shop… vs… gw2…. No subscription + Gem store, where you can play for free if you wish…. and buy gems with in game gold…if you wish."
The problem as I see i is ..most people do not play the game for free out of their own desire to have things NOW…so will spend cash…but..NO one is forcing them to use cash… they can play for free…. but that requires…patience. Something which most of today MMO’ players seem to lack.

How much time would it take you in game to earn enough gold to to buy 800 gems? Why would I grind all that gold when I can work at my job for a fraction of an hour, buy what I want, and spend the time I would’ve spent grinding for gold doing whatever I found fun.
WoW has a cash shop, yes. But that cash shop only a few mounts, a few pets and dumb looking transmog helms that everyone mocks if you dare show your face in game with one of them on.
Meanwhile, I can get hundreds of mounts and pets in game.

+1. In any case Anet lootz table is seriously skewed towards some people and not others. Some people can get 3 Sunless weapons whereas other can get 0 after months of wasting 20 min daily on it. Fract weapons? How about the precursor rage thread (I dont personally experience it because I grinded and saved for G and got precursors off the TP when they were “cheap”)?
ESO’s only item in the cash shop is a single horse and its just a mid tier one in terms of gold.
On top of everything you have to GRIND for empyreal, dragonite and bloodstone for ascended.
One thing about monthly subs I dont like though is that its not a balance of time – its not equal x amount of hrs of game-time.

Last time i checked… the amount of gems you can by with Gold…varies based on demand.
TESO has a subscription fee…and a cash shop.
WoW has a subscription fee…. and a cash shop.it seems to me that if you were discussing " MMO’s that ONLY have a subscription… compared to MMO’s that have a cash shop" you might have a point.
As I said. That is your choice. Anet has not forced you to spend your cash for those Gems.
Seems that people Like to say " it’s cheaper to play a sub only game. Ok, I may be a Bit ignorant, it happens… what game is subscription only, what is it’s subscription amount… and tell me How it can Possibly be cheaper than playing for free. No Monthly, and then using in game gold you aquire as you play the game… to buy the stuff on the gem store?
No, WoW nor TESO qualify. They also have a cash shop.
The person I responded to, did not qualify the type of cash shop the games with monthly subscriptions had, she simply said " subscription only."
You mention
Why would I grind all that gold when I can work at my job for a fraction of an hour, buy what I want
This is your decision, Anet did not force you to use your cash to buy gems, that is the choice you made. It just seems Interesting that you feel that Anet is more expensive than a subscription based game, because you lack the control, to NOT spend real cash.
I agree with the OP 100%.
All this game currently offers is farming and zergging, both of which get real boring real fast. I`ve only been playing 6 months and already I`m growing tired of farming and zergging the same kitten day after day.
When the best loot drop you can realistically expect is a basic t6 crafting mat, then yeah, the loot is pretty underwhelming.
This game needs a real kick up the backside.
I want to like this game, but honestly after buying it over a year ago my highest char is level 28 and I know absolutely the reason why too.
When I play a MMO I play as a tank or a healer as I like having responsibility in a group, I immediately hit LFG and start a dungeon group in whatever game I play because that is what I like doing. When I log on I usually get tells asking me to run something with people I have played with before and I like being known in game for my abilities in a group.
With GW2 no one even seemed to run dungeons when I first picked it up and there is no set tank or healer archtype either. That to me is just a total killer for the game. Its like saying my entire way of playing is invalid and only DPS are allowed to have a role. Yes I know DPS is the most common role in every single game but I like the challenge of leading groups and holding them together. This game just takes that ability and says pfft who needs you.
I still want to like the game because I like it being B2P (buy to play… you must buy box to play it, whereas FTP you can just download and start playing it) but after about 2 to 3 hours of doing a map to get all the hears and stupid vistas and all that crap and I am ready to /wrists. I know some of you love that stuff but for a person who loves running dungeons and group stuff, solo questing is just boring as crap and is totally against the MM part of a MMORPG. Maybe that would change at level 80 but honestly I doubt I will ever get there because I just cannot stomach the monotonous grind.
I agree with the OP on a lot of their points.

Just out of curiosity I googled the WoW site, found a link for the shop and then found these comments: in this site here
“I honestly think its crap that a game that we already pay monthly for has stuff like a ingame shop. Usually this is the type of stuff you see in games without some sort of sub. Though there is nothing that says they cannot do this, it just sort of puts a bitter taste in your mouth when you have microtransactions in a game that you already pay monthly for. There should be some sort of way to obtain these items without having to put forward real money”.
“I agree, it’s a little crap to have to pay real money for something that is in a game not real life and you are already paying monthly for it.”
“I agree I wish they would make these mounts obtainable in game through achievements or such idk anything besides the ingame shop”
I guess someone is going to be unhappy no matter what the method of payment is and what is in the cash shop.
But though I agree that Zerker is the best stats for PvE if everyone uses it but there is a small nerf for it comming and we will see what happens next.
Nothing happens, the it’ll still be the best it’ll just take you 10% more time to kill stuff. The problem wasn’t that zerkers was too good and needed to be nerfd but that everything else is useless
Hello all. At first sorry for my english.
I can agree with one thing, if u are a PVE player, there is nothing to do at lv 80 (after… lets say 1 month), why in my opinion?
1- No character progress. You are receiving xp, but nothing happened, no new stats, u cannot be stronger;
2- Doing dungeons just for doing dungeons is pointless, its fun fist 3 times, all paths etc, but what for?
3- Making money? If U don’t plan to make asc or legendary gear, or buy very expensive skins/dyes/special items/cash shop items, there is no reason. I can make 60-90 gold just by leveling (from lv 1 to 80) and selling resources with little farming, and its ok. There is no problem to be fully geared with exotics (armor/weapons/trinc), even transmutation crystals.
4- Farming for gear to look cool. Oh cmon. Most of the armor sets are terrible. Especially low lv ones. They are not properly designed, looks weird and same – boots/shoulder too large etc. My practice at lv 80 is to buy exotics from black lion, collecting different armor pieces, some dungeon, some karma, buying transmutation crystals and mixing together to look how I want, but than the fun is over – u can done this in 1 week or faster.
5- Crafting – its good to have craft at high lv – but its like 5-15 gold for every profession with your own resources. And again , difference for most of the stuff is just a name, nothing new and no point to do this at lv 80.
6- Completing map, achievements etc. – if u are not a collector type of player there is no reason – for the title? Cmon.
What I wish:
1- Maybe weapon specialization just for PVE. Lets say u are receiving 1 point of specialization for every lv above 80 – which gives u 1% damage more for selected weapon type. Why not? If u want to make next 100 lv just for raising axe dmg by 100 % (100 is max) its your choice, if u want to raise 3 weapons by 20% each, or 3 weapons for 100% (300 points) its ok, that’s the reason to play, doing quests, receiving xp.
2- Random (low drop rate) for special armor (maybe pieces only, like helmets, gloves, uber look backarmors etc. with specific dungeon style of course) and weapons (even skins only) – good reason to farm dungeons. They could be soulbound as well.
I am not saying GW2 is a bad game, Its great, one of 3 best that I had ever play, but could be better, and main reason to play rpg game is progress, making your character stronger and stronger and better look. Why games with simple mechanics are so addictive? Mu, Diablo…well.

This game isn’t for you. Really, it’s not.
Guild Wars 1 ran for years and years and even when an expansion was released, there was no way to improve your stats. And it was all about cosmetics. That’s what the series is about and that’s what made the series successful.
People are already complaining there’s too much vertical progression. If you want a game centered around vertical progression, this isn’kitten
It doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do at level 80. It means you’re vested in the idea that if you don’t get more powerful you’re not doing something.
That’s really the issue in a nutshell. There are different types of players. Guild Wars 1 players don’t want to chase higher stats. They want to max out their character and then play the game.
And they want only cosmetic upgrades.
This isn’t a bad game. It’s a game centered around a play style that’s incompatible with what you personally want from a game.
So back to my original question. At the current conversion rate, how long would it take to grind enough gold for 800 gems? If I have the choice between working a fraction of an hour, x, in order to earn enough money to buy 800 gems and grinding in game for x+1 hours for the necessary gold, why would I do the latter?

I would chose neither of those. I would pay 15 bucks a month and have access to a full game and play for the fun of it. Some people prefer the existent system sure. I have no problem with that. It’s their time and money.
But here is my opinion.
This game is so unrewarding in every aspects which is the main reason I don’t play it anymore. I have been playing for more than 1 year and I never been satisfied with this system.
To get a legendary, which is one of the ultimate goals in this game, you either grind till your eyes bleed or pay. Either way, no sense of accomplishment there.
Many people in so many topics come to the defense of this system by stating that the grindy things are optional. This translates into “You can play half a game and be fine”. Sure, I guess.
The interdependence between gold and gems makes this impossible to be fixed. The whole thing is wrong. There is no way out of this. So get you zerg trains running or pull out your credit cards for sparkling quaggans and such and enjoy whatever rocks your boat in this game. I know I won’t.

I checked in the TP for the conversion rate on my server and it was 10g for 112 gems. So, it would be about 70g for 800. Your mileage may vary though.

It has been proven that sub games offer more bang for your buck.
Proof? Where? Just saying there is proof doesn’t make it so.
In fairness Anet has to make a profit and GW2 is not free as many people keep trying to say.
The first part is true. Anet does have to make a profit, but the second half is bunk. No one is forcing anyone to buy anything. That is personal choice pure and simple. It’s funny but I don’t ever recall an Anet heavy hitter breaking into my home and forcing me to purchase anything from the gem shop. GW 2 is free to play if you choose to make it that way.
But, The micro transaction model nickle and dimes each and every player if given the chance and the fanboi’s will tell you that you don’t have to spend a dime – but the honestly truth is YES people do have to spend money on the gem shop in order for GW2 to continue to be profitable and stay open.
I love how you try to pre-label and quantify an argument calling someone a fanboi if they dare to disagree with your argument. Micro transactions do fund the game, but not everyone has to partake in them and many do not. There are plenty of willing people who pay real life money in the gem shop because they want to, not because they have to.
It costs more for the above then a simple sub fee and you also get more with a sub fee.
No it doesn’t. Again, it costs nothing if you chose play that way. It doesn’t make me a fanboi by saying that it makes me someone who understands reality and doesn’t make over inflated claims.
Also, This next patch offers many changes but none of which is any type of content. The next time we see something will likely be after season 2 which is FAR FAR to long.
And what lets you believe that it will be after season 2 before any new content comes along? Crystal Ball? Psychic? Fortune Cookie?

Agreed. I prefer the sub model as well because I get actual content and devs are forced to make the world fun and rewarding. Gems to gold was a bad move for this game because it’s possible to make the game just unrewarding enough to herd people into the gem shop.
Sure, sure spending real money is entirely optional! You’ll just have to work 5 hours instead of half an hour!
TLDR: Drop the Living Story and start delivering new, permanent content.
I mostly agree with loot diversity, since there is barely any.
One other thing i miss is the champions having actual names.
I hate the fact that almost all mob names in the game are made up of a prefix (mostly their alliance/race) and profession (ie. ‘Champion Plains Wurm’, ‘Champion Giant’).
One way to solve this would be to give them names, perhaps ones that are bound to the lore in small ways. It would add a really nice depth to all the maps and the mobs aswell.
I see all the complaints about new permanent content. You know what is funny. There are some in the community, I don’t have numbers and only know of the ones I talk to but with how large the community is I assume there is more, really enjoy the way the content is done. There is something going on all the time when the LS is going.
Some of the LS stuff I don’t like, some I do, but there is always something going on and it is fresh. They go in and add new permanent content and within a month it is stale and been done. That is what permanent content gives us, something to go stale. Then you know what happens, all of you that complain about wanting new permanent content come right back here and do it is again.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I would like to see new zones, some new dungeons that stay in game, but the point I made above is going to be the same. I hope they do add some permanent content in the second LS, I hope things change with the existing zones, but don’t say drop the LS, cause the moment they do that, then we have long periods with stale content while we wait.

To be honest, I’m actually amazed we get any new content at all in a non-subscription game. I’m really surprised they didn’t just make GW2, leave it as it was, and all started working on GW3.

The majority of the Living Story after Zephyr Sanctum was a long period with stale content in my eyes.

You all act like this game is a charity and that ANet and Co. give us things out of their kindness of their hearts.
The truth of the matter is that the Gem Store exists for a reason and it’s extremely naïve to act like they’re not profiting from the player-base.
(edited by Flytrap.8075)
That’s the reason why I’ve strated to think recently why GW3 would be great… with a sub fee, and I’m pretty sure that ANet or NCSoft stated they won’t consider another b2p/then f2p games in the future ( correct me if I’m wrong ).
I do understand that many of you dislike the idea, but tbh, a sub fee adds something that GW2 does not have – loads of new, permanent content, let’s say every 6-8 weeks.
Living story? Not really, at least not the way it is exectued in GW2, which is to say the least, ‘poorly executed’.
I’m ready to pay 15-20 dollars a month for a quality PERMANENT content every now and then.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I would like to see new zones, some new dungeons that stay in game, but the point I made above is going to be the same. Exactly. I want permanent content too, but not at the expense of not having new things infused into the game on a regular basis. I agree with you 100%.

I understand what you are saying Flytrap, but Hjorje said, he didn’t like all of the LS story either, but it was at least constant new material. Anet will not make anything that all people will like. Whether or not it is truly stale is very subjective. I liked the LS. Many did not. It was still more than you get out of many MMO’s.
The Living Story concept is not a terrible idea; however, the way ANet chose to implement it most definitely was flawed.
All we got were PvE zergfests with a laundry list of uninspired, dry achievements. A few things here and there were done well, but the majority of it was just bland and lost its luster a day or two after patch day. Not to mention that this content was completely temporary and is forever gone now.
I understand that they are planning on doing another round of Living Story, and hopefully they learn from their past mistakes, but I’m not going to hold my breath.
The loot is alright, and the world events are good in that there are a good bit that do have repercussions. I agree with build diversity and dungeons, though. Those are the two things I think they should really work on — especially dungeons. Mobs have so much HP and can kill you very easily. It’s not a test in skill. It’s a test in patience, and it’s completely different than the rest of the game, which has you fighting short but relatively fun battles.
This is a lot of reading.. im hungry and will post shortly. And hopefully not a lengthy post. It will be short and terribly punctuated and horribly expressed. But the spelling will be good because my browser spell checks automatically!
The loot isn’t fun.
The whole point of the variation was supposed to be aesthetics.
I do however agree about Ascended. They could have made it more about the part of the game that it was supposed to be for, and designed the acquisition around it.
Nobody really does dungeons; they skip them. If people are going out of their way to skip content, don’t you think there might be something wrong with the content? Most dungeons contain too much filler and lack real “loot” for your efforts; that doesn’t create a challenging, rewarding, nor immersing dungeon experience.
Agree. I feel that they could a) cut down on the amount of trash in dungeons, b) give groups of trash interesting mechanics and c) randomise what sort of trash group (pre-tailored to work together) spawns. As for loot, instead of having individual, rewarding loot, add non-compulsory experiences to the dungeon, and reward chasing after these. For example, Vanquishing.
Build diversity and overall balance could be much better. Nowadays, it seems like nobody likes you unless you’re full Berserker, using your classes “best” weapon. Doesn’t that seem a little strange to anyone? If balancing between PvE and PvP is difficult, why not just balance them separately?
I honestly believe that the lack of build diversity isn’t down to the actual lack of pre-defined roles, but down to content that doesn’t really get players to fully utilise the tools at hand.
World events should be more… worldly. Off the top of my head, one of my favorite world events is when that huge Giant runs over that low-level Charr town in one of their zones. I like that event because there’s repercussions for not dealing with him; your town is pretty much useless. What good are world events that really don’t have any weight within the world around them? Would be pretty fun if towns getting attacked was more of a regular thing; it makes the world seem more dangerous.
As well as this, I feel that events should ‘evolve’. Show some emergent AI. for example, if an attack fails, they ramp up the attack by also bringing along, say, catapults, firing at range. These mechanics should then scale depending on the amount of people in the area. For example, 1 catapult if there’s 5 people, 2 if there is 10 ect ect.
The Living Story concept is not a terrible idea; however, the way ANet chose to implement it most definitely was flawed.
I somewhat agree.
LS, in my eyes, should be small amounts of temporary content used to deliver larger, permanent additions to the game in an immersive way (rather than simply download the patch and suddenly something has appeared).
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.

First off i’d like to thank Anet for making Guild Wars 1 and the beautiful work they did on Guild Wars 2.
I have 3,586 hours logged in GW1 over 94 months. I havent played it much at all for several years, or I would have double that if I still played like I used to. Yet I still have it installed and like to log in just to see and hear the sights and sounds of the music, environment and outpost ambiance. I was late to the MMO scene, coming from first person shooters, so GW was my first. And I thoroughly enjoyed every moment. I started with Factions when it came out. I have a lvl 20 of every class but a Paragon, yet I never completed Urgoz’s or the Deep, only did FoW once completely, and maybe UW once. Yet I’ve went through each campaign several times. I dont have the mahogany title nor any of the fancy ones because it dont mean anything to me to be a showoff with titles, just like irl. I am modest, on a tight budget at the moment. But a day hunting with family in the woods beats anything money can buy.
I wrote in my school memories book in like 1st grade what I wanted to be when I grew up and one trade was a “farmer”. Well that didnt work out. I ended up being a welder. But in Guild Wars I got to farm… But it wasnt crops! hah. After completing every expansion over and over I found myself farming using every build, class, combination. It was fun. I amassed a few mil i assume, to buy all my cool armor sets for most of my guys. But that was all. I didnt do the ecto trade or play the vendors or the people. I got my armor and saved the rest. After that was nerfed every which way, I pretty much quit playing and went to WoW and stayed there until GW2 came out. I gotta make this short because I hate reading a long post myself.. GW2 looked (and I had hoped) to be the next Guild Wars game, but it turned out completely the opposite of what I expected. It was fun the first couple of lvl 80s but after that, I couldnt get into the living world story stuff, farming mats for crafting a legendary or farming gold. It all seemed like a boring, time consuming, never ending undertaking but somehow people managed to do it in the first month, which I still cant comprehend unless they exploited so I never bothered. Maybe im just not patient or intelligent enough. Even now when I log in I dont know where to go or what to do. I guess I could run around for a few hours and see what happens. Maybe it will lead me to something I missed or need to do.
So I quit playing several months ago and didnt bother logging in to attempt some recent events. It didnt appeal to me. I kinda prefer a static single player story arc, dungeons, and traditional content associated with an mmo with a quest log to keep track of as an incentive to go out and explore. Also, without listing everything GW2 doesnt have that should have been in at release, most things from GW1 would have sufficed. You should know them already if you played GW1. Dont get me wrong. I like GW2 and yea I could go play GW1 if i prefer it. Which I might buy another slot one day and roll another guy and play through it again. But in GW2 I feel lost, bored, out of place, broke, uninspired and alone. Anyways. I feel the game didnt deliver to begin with, but its still young. And theres plenty of time left to add to it. Eight years of GW1 has went by and it feels just like a few months ago I was just starting out. And they added alot during that time. Maybe GW2 has appealed to the younger generation of gamers or people who prefer a game that is a bit unorthodox and unlike every other mmorpg out there. Yet most old schoolers know what they would like to have available. Im sure theres lists here somewhere. I will keep it installed and still log in and see what I can get into when Im bored and have some free time. But it doesnt seem like a place I can call home like I once could with Cantha..

Summary of my experience as well.
I was going to write: “I don’t know what the huge difference in feeling is between gw1 or gw2” But maybe it’s that in gw1 there was something to aspire to that took time to learn and seemed “pro” and you thought “one day I’ll be pro and do that too” but in gw2 it all seems so simple and routine. Nothing you do seems to matter: events reset and in big groups you are completely replaceable.
I don’t think we need new content. What we need is a polishing in the content we already have. Or maybe I should get my kitten on exploring the world. But for some reason I don’t feel called by it.
I believe I’m starting to miss the whole talk to X npc to get your quest. It’s just that the letter they send you after completing a heart feels so impersonal. You just pass by do some stuff just because the quest log says so and you get money envelope from a random stranger.
The impact on the world too. The giant in the charr town is a great example. Then again you have places like the cursed shore that are just a pain to go to because nobody is bothering to complete them. At least in sorrow furnance. But if the megaserver stuff works out I think it could work.
It has been awhile since I posted and thought I would chime in,
I don’t miss the gem store & 220+ items that have eaten up resources from Anet, so glad back to a sub & earn the new content.
I don’t miss the focus on gold-Gold now in the game i’m in is for WP’s and repairs.
I don’t miss the focus of playing dress up over game play, I never was into playing w/Barbie.
I don’t miss the skill lag/lag in WvW
I don’t miss the Living Story-Nice to see update w/permanent content.
I don’t miss the lack of trinity, so very nice to hear again “great heals this run!” or “kitten good tanking!”, & “going to add you to friends list, great run.” Gw2 combat system nobody cared what you did or how you did it, as long as you didn’t die and brought zerk dps.
It’s too bad, had high hopes for GW2. I don’t blame the developers though, & look forward to seeing them in future endeavors.
I put the blame on NCsoft and companies like them doing these cash grab mmo’s, they can’t & do not have good follow through when it comes to properly supporting the content/QoL of their games, especially when trying to support 5-10 mmo’s like these companies do.
Last time I checked a sub fee doesn’t guarantee anything other than the fact that every 30 days, there will be a charge on your debit or credit card.
Just saying.

Then go do it, since you seem to think that there are so many better monthly subscription games with glorious “permanent” content out there. I am bewildered why you continue to whine about GW2 here, when you have said many times how much better monthly fee based games are.
Mmo players with a screw loose vs mmo players with two screws loose. All very important stuff.

So perfectly said. It happens all the times in mmorpg forums……people whine and moan about how it’s not the perfect game for them, and then stuff is added to a game that those same people asked for, and they’re immediately back on the forums whining about the stuff they asked for, and how god awful it is.
Thank goodness they’re not playing the game anymore, have left it behind, quit their belly aching, and moved on to games that appeal to them more………
Oh, wait………
