The problem here is that they might not be rare at all and are from a piece of content that nobody does. No matter how small % droprate they have, they would have showed up more often on the tradingpost if they were a general drop.

Which leads me to believe that they could be a drop from a very specific boss or event that nobody does, just like some exotic items only drop from certain champions. However we do not know from which champion in HoT they drop from yet.

Why not just add a toggle like they did for the gloves. Seems pretty lame to put something in that people really want with a stupidly low drop rate that doesn’t really do anything game changing. You have a look in mind and you want these… Good luck? :c

It’s pretty simple really.

1. It keeps people on the HoT maps to find them.
2. The ultra rarity of the item encourages people to RMT to be able to purchase them on the TP.

I’d imagine if they could go back in time, Anet would absolutely have done the same thing with shoulders and gloves.

So it’s an ultra-rare drop that requires HoT (which I have no intention of buying) to even get to see them drop (or a lot of real money to convert to gold to buy them on the TP) when a simple toggle switch would’ve sufficed.

Yeah, this feels like a real kick in the teeth for those of us who have been asking for a visibility toggle for this over the last three years.

I stole a special snowflake’s future by exercising my democratic right to vote.

Exactly. Instead of just making a toggle like there already exists for head, shoulder and gloves – they make it an ultra-rare HoT exclusive drop that took two weeks before it was even found.

I am getting more and more annoyed with GW2’s “reward” structure. So worth it, great job!

It has probably been implented by a dev who is suffering of serious podophobia (fear of feet). So instead of just adding the checkbox (which would lead to many players hiding shoes) he made it an ultra rare drop that will never be affordable by the majority of players. Stupid decision imho and there’s absolutely no justification for it.

Same here. ArenaNet is designing for grinders, not regular players. I bet they’d make helmet hiding a ultra-rare grind drop if they could go back in time.

The longer I played HoT, the more I decided the game isn’t for me.

It doesn’t sound like it’s an extremely rare drop, it’s just that hardly anyone bothers with DS champs like the Treasure Mushroom, which certainly explains the length of time it took before the boots appeared on the market. Pretty sure that as soon as this becomes common knowledge, the market will crash fast as people start seriously farming it.

On one hand, it’s nice that a long-awaited feature has finally been implemented (though really there should be a visibility toggle for every armor piece. RIFT can do it, why not GW2?). On the other hand – a rare drop? Why, ANET?

At least put it on the cash shop, I bet that would create a more predictable stream of RMT revenue.

How am I gonna be an optimist about this?

Hahah, really? Then any treasure mushroom may drop it I wager.
Thank you for the advice friend.

Now I wonder if it is a drop or an event reward for the mushrooms. It could be a simple drop making it farmable outside of the dailies as the event reward only seems to give you rare equipment and a trash item for selling.

Wildstar happy lets you hide any armor piece straight from the menu. Why Anet why? Giant Coats and Shoes are bulliez. Almost have Stealth Detection lvl’d though so hopefully getting them is possible.

Hmmm…

Anet need to be careful, IMO.

They’re treading on very thin ice, here.

Most people don’t play this game to be “challenged” in this type of extreme RNG/TP extortion kind of way.

Most people play to have fun and play the parts of the game they enjoy.

There are better games than this, that end up costing people significantly less to play.

Especially if you’re a fashionwars type, who is regularly tempted by the gemstore.

As many people, who want this item, presumably will be.

This kind of overly penny pinching, cynical behaviour is not something for this type of game.

They should be rewarding the kind of players who care what their chars look like and so, already tend to spend more on cosmetic stuff, from the gemstore, than other people.

Not be trying to find ways to outright exploit them.

I feel as though they nailed the class design. Like reaper I’m loving it, but at the same time the look of something is just as important to me. I look in the TP every now and then to check up stuff and all the cool aesthetic looking stuff is all stupidly expensive. Staff Skin to look like a scythe like 3k gold…

It makes me sad cause some things like that for a class that raises the dead should be a bit easier to get, not something taht was added and then removed and now sells for a stupid amount. These shoes are the same. They could have just added a toggle but instead they made it a rare drop off a once a day thing (Given you can do it up to 4 times.). It seems like poor game design and its things like this that make me not really get to invested in this game. I’m not one for grinding to this extreme. Legendary weapons 100% ok with their meant to be hard to get and that’s understandable, but shoes taht could have just had a simple toggle and sell for 1k+ gold… not for me sorry.

I’ll try to not let the door hit me on the way out lol

Really does bother me that it’s a rare drop from a once per day event. I mean if I really wanted to I’d just unequip my boots and play like that, like I sometimes do in lower levels. Some races you get no footwear on some outfits, mostly the wedding one. I mean all I’d want these for is to go unshod with another armor and keep my stats and runes. It’s very annoying making this extremely rare RNG reward from a rare enemy that requires a high level mastery. Farming like this is something I’d do for an ascended or legendary item, not something that’s just my default skin without boots.

Hey Matthew, now that the secret is out, would you please consider having the drop frequency on these adjusted?

I know making knee-jerk reactions isn’t a great thing, but these seem to be the rarest drop in Heart of Thorns (if not the entirety of Guild Wars 2), by far. My guild and I (~5 people farming/day) have been killing at least three treasure mushrooms (usually at least four, and more recently five) a day for the past two weeks and have had no luck in obtaining a single pair.

It just seems a real shame that we were given a toggle for helmet, gloves and shoulders and that these invisible boots do the same thing, but are behind such an extremely and dismally low drop rate. I don’t think invisible shoes should remotely be among the most expensive and rarest items in the game.

TL;DR Can we please have the drop rate tweaked on these to be a lot more reasonable? Could these be fully made account bound and have their drop rate adjusted to provide more incentive to train this mastery and provide more of a reward for using this mastery?

It makes sense to me that the people that want these can farm them every day for a few days to a week to get a pair — while the rich/lucky will not be able to exploit these like they currently are.

Hopefully so. I still think they should keep an eye on these and decide where they want these to be at, rarity-wise. Invisible Boots haven’t even made it to the trading post once yet, and there is typically not even any pair of invisible shoes on the trading post for sale at any given time.

I think, from my experience, where these are at now are more frustrating to get than anything. You play games to have fun and to earn things you want. I’ve been having a lot of fun in HoT, but I have played enough to max my HoT masteries and I feel like the reward side of things (especially the armor skins) is lacking.

If they were to make these a bit more easily accessible (even if that means making these account bound) I think that would be a good thing and a plus for the rewards from HoT. I simply feel that there’s great opportunity for people to get something cool from a specific feature in the game, but it’s (once again) being degraded into “Oh, you’ll probably never get this item naturally, so just farm the gold for it and buy it.” That makes me sad, annoyed, and frustrated.

So, yes, in my humble opinion I think it would be better for the game and those that want these if they’re made account bound and have their rarity significantly reduced. These are from a mastery that requires invisibility detection, after all. How are players without it even supposed to see them and buy them off the trading post? :P

We need to figure out if this is a drop from the mushrooms themselves or from the daily event clear from the mushroom. I’ve farmed them for quite a bit outside of my daily and they seem to have no loot except Nuhoch Hunting Mastery and Leaf Fossil on their own.

They seem to pickup loot from dead enemies on the ground.

Because if they indeed are only from the daily, ArenaNet definately needs to ramp up the drop rate by a lot.

I dont think they necessarily need to be made account bound, just making getting them realistic would be enough.

That’s because you didn’t read my suggestion.

My suggestion was to make them fully account bound and increase the drop rate. That helps to keep these items away from the ludicrous trading post market, deliver the item to those that actually want to use them (which I would assume being the whole purpose of their creation in the first place — unless their purpose is meant to troll, and if that’s the case they’re doing a great job as is), and increase the value of the invisible detection mastery.

But they are already tied in with invisible detection mastery! Yes, but they probably have, like, a one in a thousand chance to drop (if not lower) and you only get six attempts per day. That’s also only for one pair.

The drop rates are ridiculous. 5 pieces got sold over the TP so far. I am farming in groups of four to five ppl every day and no one ever got one of them.

They should have left this out of the game when the ones who want to get it aren’t able to.

If people claim that the prices will drop – sorry but your argument is invalid because of the traders that will control the prices. Even if it goes down for 1/3 then it’s still at kittening 1000 gold and you have to buy EVERY SINGLE armor to unlock all skins! Nightfury is freaking cheaper than these shoes!!!!! This is kitten. Let’s recap to make sure I’ve got this straight:

The expansion has been out for about 2 weeks, the source of this item was just confirmed a few days ago, and people are already complaining because they’re expensive?

1. Demand is probably at it’s highest right now.
2. A good chunk of the player base probably still doesn’t know where they come from, so they’re making no effort to farm for them.
3. They’re locked behind an obscure, and seemingly unimportant mastery that a lot of people probably still don’t have.

Give it a few weeks and the price will go down substantially. It’s virtually impossible to “market manipulate” items like this because you have no control over the supply. The same bullkitten arguments have been thoroughly debunked about the “manipulation” of precursors. Not everything is a conspiracy. Furthermore, if ANET really wanted to gouge you for real money, they would have put it on the gem store… and then people would have complained that it’s on the gem store. Instead, you can get them for free. No real money, no gold. FREE. And still people are complaining about it?

“ANET should just make a toggle option.” Ok, maybe that’s true, but you can’t just copy/paste the game code that drives the visibility toggles on head and shoulder armor, cross your fingers, and hope it works. It takes real developers real time to implement changes like that, and they just finished building a kittening expansion.

You guys lived without this for 3 years, maybe you can wait another few weeks to see where the price/availability go before you bust out the pitchforks? Just an idea…

It seems there’s a super amount of RNG to getting them. I’m still not convinced they drop from treasure mushrooms since there’s been so few obtained. And none of these people, supposedly, remember if it was from a treasure mushroom at all, the daily event from the treasure mushroom, or just a general drop from the treasure mushrooms.

They also keep appearing at a steady rate of one a day and are listed at the same price of 1500g every day. I have about 200 or so samples from trusted resources (myself and a few guild members) and none of us have gotten even one pair yet. It seems a bit suspicious to me, although it could just be paranoia.

Also, the events are bloody annoying. There’s no reason for treasure mushrooms to be a group event when I’m by myself the majority of the time trying to kill them. They take forever to kill.

It’s like they went out of their way to be as trolly as possible in regards to these shoes. I think it’s a bit cruel, and I hope they adjust something to make obtaining these a bit more stomachable.

^ Well, if we’re being cynical/paranoid, it would be a very good way for Anet to make an extra (roughly) £140 per day.

At least for a while…

Of course, the person buying would have to buy gems with real money for it to work and it’s hard to believe a company the size of Anet would feel the need to do shady things like that to make a living, but still.

Although, if they did it with enough different stuff (legendaries, these shoes, various rare skins, very rare dyes…), it might be financially worth it to them (in total), to have a member of staff listing stuff periodically.

Point is, in theory, any company in Anet’s position, could do stuff like that and we probably would never know if they did.

I pretty much know WoW does (or did, at one point – mainly pre the BMAH) list rare stuff, on their own auction house (you can see the names of the people listing there); but the difference is that, until recently, there was no (official/authorised) way to buy WoW gold with real money.

So, really, assuming they had no connection with any goldselling website(s) – which we have to assume they didn’t – they were just providing an ingame goldsink.

Which is fair enough, really.

Whereas, if a game like this does it, they are obviously, effectively, selling people the items for real money, at least some of the time.

I expect I’ll have to field comments saying Anet would never do anything like that and/or they don’t need to.

So, I will just reiterate that I’m not saying they are doing it, just that they are in a position where they could (in theory) do it, if they wanted to.

I’ve been doing this with ppl from the lfg (except the DS one there I use map chat) & nobody reported a drop so far. I killed one with 30 ppl this morning…. The 1500g thing seems to be really shady too.

This whole “I don’t remember exactly” thing is super funny too. Had I gotten one, we would already have a screenshot of me having one in the bouncy chest window ..

It most definitely didn’t show up in the daily chest, and the icons above the bouncy chest area are kinda wonky when all the events are going on. I didn’t see the box there until I was half-way through opening all the loot bags and loot bags within loot bags from a DS win. As I clicked one of the boxes, the option to select invisible shoes popped up and I freaked the eff out. I did kill 2 treasure shrooms there though, so I probably just didn’t notice the icon rolling down the side in the confusion of running around for the noxious pods.

Hi again.
Im the Guy that put them for 1500 in the Tp.

First of all… yes i said that i dont know exactly where they drop ( i know exactly where i got it from)
I only said so because i wanted seem to be sold first.
If i told you where, you all would start farming and my chance of selling them would go down.

Sry for that.

But back to Topic as i postet before here:

They DROP from treasure Mushrooms ( I got them in dragonstand)
I still wonder why all you guys still speculate about it…
I mean its on Dulfy for some days now….

I really appreciate that you posted how you got it <3 Thank you for that.

I can understand that people are sceptic about the few answers they got just because the droprate is so bad it even hurts to believe this is real xD

They may drop from every treasure mushroom – we simply have to notice that the chance that someone gets the drop in DS is higher as there are whole zergs fighting the mushrooms.

For me I farm VB / AB / TD every day – and when I have the time also in DS. Add me ingame and we can farm them together.

Still none of your posts indicate whether it was in the daily bouncy chest reward or not.
