“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
I didnt take into account the karma consumables I used after the update after spending the karma on orrian box’s and getting more consumable and then using those up to. In total i have used up over 3 million karma worth in karma consumables AFTER the update….meaning iv lost a crap ton of karma because of this Anet foul up……
Did you read Colin’s second post in this thread by now? Should make you happy.
Prepatch I used 1.4m karma to earn about 50 gold. 20 gold in unidentifieds and about 30 in lodestones. If I waited it probably would’ve been like… 30g. That’s the price of a moderately proced weapon skin. Some people have probably saved up enough karma to have potentially lost 100 or more gold from this change. Good to know A.net is looking into giving these players a fair shot at getting the most out of their karma.
Direct response from CoJo? I feel better about this patch already.
We’ll find a way to restore for folks who dumped all their karma so far today too, more info from the community team soon when we get it all ironed out. Our goal is for everyone to get what they would have karma wise, hang tight.
I seem to be in the same boat as many here since I too consumed all my hoarded Karma with the same grudging acceptance that it was nerfed and I was just out of luck. I commend Colin on taking responsibility for how this was handled and really look forward to seeing how they respond. It should provide an excellent opportunity for some creative thinking on the part of the developers! Is there a consumable buff for that?
I haven’t been popping karma consumables since release. xD
Complaining is easy, but admitting a fault as a mmo company is a hard thing. Thanks you Colin Johanson for admitting it, and giving us (maybe) a chance to recover a bit. To be honest i only used the drips (weakest) karma vials, i was gonna use all the rest but just see this now xD
I’m all in for this udpate of karma. It makes it a whole lot easier. It’s just kinda unfair for those who planned all this, even bought karma boosting stuff in advance, to now get screwed over. I thin everyone (even the hardcore karma farmers) can live with the update of karma vials giving a static amount. But we should have the chance to at least use all of what we had, with the old method before starting the new process.
Looking forward to what is going to happen next I have over 350 jugs to use.
Nice news. Not so nice that I just popped all my karma. I’m a sad panda now. 200k karma down the drain.
Edit: I now read Colin’s second post. I’ll hold my breath then.
(edited by Buttercup.5871)
I have just spent A LOT of Karma consumables (about 3 millions worth) as soon as I realized and accepted that my karma items were nerfed. Now I read this and it makes me even more sorrowful for that.
I can understand if not, but can we expect something, ANYTHING to help mitigate this feeling? Or it’s just a “we screwed up and we’re making sure it won’t happen again”?
:(
Exactly my thoughts.
I’m a casual player but I’ve also been saving all sips, vials, juggs, drips drops of karma, all of it … I even saved the child’s drawing and all those yellow items we got for doing the living story that give karma.
Today I saw no reason why I shouldn’t consume them all, after all there was no point in hoarding them anymore. So I did. I got about 500,000 from it … for a casual player that’s a lot.
If there will be some sort of reimbursement, will I be affected too?
This is totally our fault, we dropped the ball on this plain and simple. We planned to have this messaged ahead of time to be fair to everyone, communication broke down between those who knew it was supposed to be messaged, and those who were supposed to message it and it simply didn’t happen.
As game director this is ultimately my fault first and foremost, and I’m sorry for those who potentially lost some karma as a result. It is our policy to message these kind of changes ahead of time with lots of warning, I’ll do everything possible to make sure this doesn’t happen in the future.
I’d recommend not using your karma consumables yet, give us a day or two to try and see what options we have available to help mitigate the issue.
Kudos for actually admitting you’re to blame.
I just have to say THANK YOU! Colin, I assume this is the first time, I read an apology for such a “minor” issue ever by someone responsible. This just tells me, you are the perfect choice for that job. Looking forward to your solution =)
TY for looking into this Colin.
I have like over 1K karma banked up. Getting a 50% hair cut would hurt. :<
I used mine, I guess I am screwed.
#ThanksKiel
Karma is as available as air, and as useless as the Kardashians.
I actually have a use for Karma.
(edited by Rajani Isa.6294)
Ah well since there was no message about there being no mesage ill expect the 2mil boosterless karma i just used to be back paid. Thanks in advance
@Arthedain, @Lucyfer – Thanks.
And yes, a ~40% potential reduction isn’t exactly trivial when you consider some of the inventories people have been saving.
It’s a roughly 20-25% reduction.
I have to say, I am impressed reading a straight forward and respectable honest apology from Colin (as a game director) about this karma issue.
And this today!
Not tomorrow, not ‘after breakfast’…no, just a few hours after the patch.
Now, if Anet really will get this sorted, despite all criticism and doubts I might have about GW2 and Anet itself, the one which I actually care most about
-that Anet remains on my (unfortunately very short) list of fair gaming studios-
would be not amongst them.
For me, its those little things.
Keep it up!

Yes, let us be impressed at them trying to fix something that should have never been an issue in the first place.
So what exactly is the point of liquid karma now?
All karma is account wide, therefore no reason to pass a jug / drip / vial / thimble / etc to an alt.
Boosts no longer work on liquid karma. No reason to even allow the jug / drip / vial / thimble / etc to waste space in my inventory.
Just hand out the karma directly and spare our mice a few clicks.
Exactly. There is absolutely no point in karma containers now. Just add it directly to the karma pool.
And thanks for the response to the problems.

I would just like to say 1st of all THANK YOU for this change. I have a lot of bank space but I would pile these items up to use all in 1 big bang when I could with karma boosts. This change helps me not to worry about that anymore which will in the long run save bank space and that whole repeating process. Now I can drink as I get them and clear up my inv space!
Secondly a bigger THANK YOU for seeing the oversight that came about due to how this was implemented and for trying to figure out a way to come good on that! All is forgiven, well from me anyways lol.
Thank you Colin!
This game is going down the tubes, I haven’t had time to be upset about karma changes nor do I want to as it was once a month thing with max boosts to get them. Once a month. But what about COF ALT TOKENS? Absolutely destroyed cof, with that decision, ruined the fun of playing the game for rewards, and really caused me to be greatly distressed.
Not at all happy with your decisions. And now mf is going out of the picture too whats the point of a 2nd suit of armor or even a third then. Some real boneheaded calculations going on here.

I really appreciate this kind of honesty. And in a forum post too, not some dumb press release. Another good reason besides the stellar gameplay to stick with guild wars for a long time.

MF is a useless stat that is useful in games like diablo. If you’re running max gear, what do you think you’re gonna find? More greens for the mystic toilet? A few extra yellows for ectos?
Maybe the game is going down the tubes FOR YOU, but boy this game feels like it’s just taking off and this first year was it’s trip down the runway.

What’s impressive is how they keep in touch with their customers. If this happened on Diablo or some korean mmorpg, no one would care or even mention outside patch notes, I’d wager.
And I get to know this after I wasted a few stacks of karma jugs… yay :’(
Maybe you should sell different versions of the game. One for people who want to enjoy it, and another for people who don’t.

lots of respect and appreciation for accepting complete responsibility and apologizing, even though i’m not bugged much by the accident.
I just drank a jug and got as much karma unbuffed as I had gotten when I was all strung out on banners, boosters, and ice cream.

You were not maximizing properly then

WHAT? so i get screwed now both ways, i drank all my karma potions once the change was made.. this is total bs.

This is what happens when you don’t read the thread before posting.
I find it odd that, until today, Karma was widely viewed as the most worthless in-game currency to date. How has it suddenly become so valuable to warrant all of this negative feedback? I personally support the change. It means I don’t have to bother with saving up my Karma jugs (which are a waste of valuable inventory space). Because the incentive to do so has been neutralized (pretty decently, i might add). Notice would have been nice, but it isn’t worth the weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth that’s going on here.
This is what I like the most from Anet, their awesomeness. How many out there would have said it’s been an error of them and they’re gonna try to fix it?
And, this totally screws the ice cream market! There should really be an immediate petition to Queen Jennah for a bailout package.
I have never posted anything on a forum before… I spend most of my gaming time in Tyria and I’ve been a long time GW player. I appreciate the dev response as I was one of apparently many who have been saving karma for a long time (since last October). I’ve bought the Karmic infusions, and even switched guilds to get to a place where I could maximize my total karma boosts before cashing it all in. As someone else stated change is fine, but advance warning is significant and appreciated. I kept telling my friends/family to save up their Karma for our “big” karma guzzling event soon. I have 408 jugs, 2 kegs, 4 gulps, 10 swigs, 24 sips, 15 Tastes, 57 thimbles, 250 drops, 32 drips, 4 Gift boxes… and a bunch of boosters. Saving almost every drop I was!
What I was wondering personally is, what happens to the 15% Karma Infusion I wasted laurels on for one of my characters? I don’t really need that slot for Agony Resistance (on that character at least), but I sure would like to have those Laurels back…. anyone hear what’s happening with those Infusions that are less than worthless now?
*same deal for MF Infusions down the road too…
^This. Not happy about a worthless Karma Infusion either.
Ahh, genius!
They will kill the MF infusion. render the gold infusion crappy, and then kill the karma infusion too. Then there will be no need to complain about unfair treatment since they’ll all be useless.
Woot?
I popped around 2.6 million karma according to the new values because I thought I had lost my chance. Will I be able to get that back or did I get screwed again?
I wonder what the point of this change is. I’ve never used a consumable karma item unless I only had one of them because why bother. Karma is useless (I don’t care about selling it, I’d rather save it) and you might as well save up and then use boosters to maximize the gains.
The change actually makes them easier to use, yet at the same time, removes the reason for buying karma boosters. For me at least, I’d only every use a karma booster when opening these things in batches, and I even have like 30 of them from haloween.
Considering one of the devs had almost 10 million karma, the cap must be at least 100-1 billion assuming basic data storage limitations. Considering this, there is really no reason in even having these consumables now that karma is account bound and they can’t be buffed. Now they’re just a waste of space to save them. They should just be removed and given directly, assuming that change isn’t happening already.

Yeah true that now. I save it up by the month and drop it on the character that needs it, use 50% boost. Now it’s account wide. Now the boosts are ineffective. They should just give it direct now, pointless otherwise.

Good, because I still have karma boosters I bought specifically for the purpose of using them when I open jugs.
Stealth karma nerf? Sing with me everybody!
Karma karma karma karma karma chameleon,
You come and go, you come and goooo.
Hey, everyone. We’ve read your feedback and we have an update about the karma issue. You can read about it here.
Thanks.

I applaud you for this. Takes a lot of character to own up to a mistake. Must not have been easy.

So any word on COF alt tokens?
Just wanted to add my voice to the cause here, I got burned pretty bad here.
“We will also be reimbursing the people who used their karma during the period when the initial change was in effect with as close to the correct amount of karma as possible.”
Does that mean they’re going to freely almost-maximum boost peoples karma? So for example, if I wanted boosted karma without using boosters, drink it all now or alternatively, if you don’t use boosters, don’t drink it after the patch until after Sept 3rd?
so karma infusions will be joining gold find and soon MF infusion will join them

Thank you very much sir. Good show, taking responsibility and making a fix for this is really great. Again thank you. As someone that has a bunch of karma jugs stored up (just have not gotten around to getting my infusion) you guys reverting this got me a bunch of karma that would have been lost.
