I didnt take into account the karma consumables I used after the update after spending the karma on orrian box’s and getting more consumable and then using those up to. In total i have used up over 3 million karma worth in karma consumables AFTER the update….meaning iv lost a crap ton of karma because of this Anet foul up……

Did you read Colin’s second post in this thread by now? Should make you happy.

Prepatch I used 1.4m karma to earn about 50 gold. 20 gold in unidentifieds and about 30 in lodestones. If I waited it probably would’ve been like… 30g. That’s the price of a moderately proced weapon skin. Some people have probably saved up enough karma to have potentially lost 100 or more gold from this change. Good to know A.net is looking into giving these players a fair shot at getting the most out of their karma.

I seem to be in the same boat as many here since I too consumed all my hoarded Karma with the same grudging acceptance that it was nerfed and I was just out of luck. I commend Colin on taking responsibility for how this was handled and really look forward to seeing how they respond. It should provide an excellent opportunity for some creative thinking on the part of the developers! Is there a consumable buff for that?

Complaining is easy, but admitting a fault as a mmo company is a hard thing. Thanks you Colin Johanson for admitting it, and giving us (maybe) a chance to recover a bit. To be honest i only used the drips (weakest) karma vials, i was gonna use all the rest but just see this now xD

I’m all in for this udpate of karma. It makes it a whole lot easier. It’s just kinda unfair for those who planned all this, even bought karma boosting stuff in advance, to now get screwed over. I thin everyone (even the hardcore karma farmers) can live with the update of karma vials giving a static amount. But we should have the chance to at least use all of what we had, with the old method before starting the new process.

Legendary weapons can be hidden now!
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.

I have just spent A LOT of Karma consumables (about 3 millions worth) as soon as I realized and accepted that my karma items were nerfed. Now I read this and it makes me even more sorrowful for that.

I can understand if not, but can we expect something, ANYTHING to help mitigate this feeling? Or it’s just a “we screwed up and we’re making sure it won’t happen again”?

:(

Exactly my thoughts.

I’m a casual player but I’ve also been saving all sips, vials, juggs, drips drops of karma, all of it … I even saved the child’s drawing and all those yellow items we got for doing the living story that give karma.

Today I saw no reason why I shouldn’t consume them all, after all there was no point in hoarding them anymore. So I did. I got about 500,000 from it … for a casual player that’s a lot.

If there will be some sort of reimbursement, will I be affected too?

This is totally our fault, we dropped the ball on this plain and simple. We planned to have this messaged ahead of time to be fair to everyone, communication broke down between those who knew it was supposed to be messaged, and those who were supposed to message it and it simply didn’t happen.

As game director this is ultimately my fault first and foremost, and I’m sorry for those who potentially lost some karma as a result. It is our policy to message these kind of changes ahead of time with lots of warning, I’ll do everything possible to make sure this doesn’t happen in the future.

I’d recommend not using your karma consumables yet, give us a day or two to try and see what options we have available to help mitigate the issue.

I have to say, I am impressed reading a straight forward and respectable honest apology from Colin (as a game director) about this karma issue.
And this today!
Not tomorrow, not ‘after breakfast’…no, just a few hours after the patch.

Now, if Anet really will get this sorted, despite all criticism and doubts I might have about GW2 and Anet itself, the one which I actually care most about
-that Anet remains on my (unfortunately very short) list of fair gaming studios-
would be not amongst them.

For me, its those little things.

So what exactly is the point of liquid karma now?

All karma is account wide, therefore no reason to pass a jug / drip / vial / thimble / etc to an alt.

Boosts no longer work on liquid karma. No reason to even allow the jug / drip / vial / thimble / etc to waste space in my inventory.

Just hand out the karma directly and spare our mice a few clicks.

Exactly. There is absolutely no point in karma containers now. Just add it directly to the karma pool.

And thanks for the response to the problems.

I would just like to say 1st of all THANK YOU for this change. I have a lot of bank space but I would pile these items up to use all in 1 big bang when I could with karma boosts. This change helps me not to worry about that anymore which will in the long run save bank space and that whole repeating process. Now I can drink as I get them and clear up my inv space!

Secondly a bigger THANK YOU for seeing the oversight that came about due to how this was implemented and for trying to figure out a way to come good on that! All is forgiven, well from me anyways lol.

But what about COF ALT TOKENS? Absolutely destroyed cof, with that decision, ruined the fun of playing the game for rewards, and really caused me to be greatly distressed.

Not at all happy with your decisions. And now mf is going out of the picture too whats the point of a 2nd suit of armor or even a third then. Some real boneheaded calculations going on here.

MF is a useless stat that is useful in games like diablo. If you’re running max gear, what do you think you’re gonna find? More greens for the mystic toilet? A few extra yellows for ectos?

Maybe the game is going down the tubes FOR YOU, but boy this game feels like it’s just taking off and this first year was it’s trip down the runway.

I find it odd that, until today, Karma was widely viewed as the most worthless in-game currency to date. How has it suddenly become so valuable to warrant all of this negative feedback? I personally support the change. It means I don’t have to bother with saving up my Karma jugs (which are a waste of valuable inventory space). Because the incentive to do so has been neutralized (pretty decently, i might add). Notice would have been nice, but it isn’t worth the weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth that’s going on here.

I have never posted anything on a forum before… I spend most of my gaming time in Tyria and I’ve been a long time GW player. I appreciate the dev response as I was one of apparently many who have been saving karma for a long time (since last October). I’ve bought the Karmic infusions, and even switched guilds to get to a place where I could maximize my total karma boosts before cashing it all in. As someone else stated change is fine, but advance warning is significant and appreciated. I kept telling my friends/family to save up their Karma for our “big” karma guzzling event soon. I have 408 jugs, 2 kegs, 4 gulps, 10 swigs, 24 sips, 15 Tastes, 57 thimbles, 250 drops, 32 drips, 4 Gift boxes… and a bunch of boosters. Saving almost every drop I was!

I wonder what the point of this change is. I’ve never used a consumable karma item unless I only had one of them because why bother. Karma is useless (I don’t care about selling it, I’d rather save it) and you might as well save up and then use boosters to maximize the gains.

The change actually makes them easier to use, yet at the same time, removes the reason for buying karma boosters. For me at least, I’d only every use a karma booster when opening these things in batches, and I even have like 30 of them from haloween.

Considering one of the devs had almost 10 million karma, the cap must be at least 100-1 billion assuming basic data storage limitations. Considering this, there is really no reason in even having these consumables now that karma is account bound and they can’t be buffed. Now they’re just a waste of space to save them. They should just be removed and given directly, assuming that change isn’t happening already.

Yeah true that now. I save it up by the month and drop it on the character that needs it, use 50% boost. Now it’s account wide. Now the boosts are ineffective. They should just give it direct now, pointless otherwise.
