More daily - are you kidding me ?
wut?
…………
If you wanna be on top of leader boards put in the effort. No ones forcing you to grind achievement points.
You can use these extra dailies to close the gap quicker on people who start slacking.
For anyone who is confused, this thread seems to be referring to changes being made to PVP achievements on Dec. 10th. See this article for more info:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/player-vs-player-rewards-roadmap/
I’m fairly astonished by people on the achievement leaderboards, because it doesn’t sound at all fun to me. I’d rather they give more options for completing the daily than worry about completionists having difficulty knocking off every single achievement, every single day.
(It’s not a perfect system, but, barring some major changes, it’s too preposterous to worry about.)
guys, all top550rank do all daily everyday, this is like about 17 – 20 points per day. Ask for anyone who do that if they are happy to do that, I prefer a hundred times to do liadri at hard mode, and be a smaller % of ppl do get that points. well, this if my opnion, you don’t need to agree with that.
I think they should give us a lot of options to do 5 points, and not be able to do 17points. That’s all
Leaderboards serve no purpose really. XD It just wants you to think it does.
I just do 5 things total (either pve or pvp) to complete the daily and I’m fine from there.
someone, somewhere, is doing every daily, every achievement, every living story fully, every monthly……. you will never catch up to this basement dweller.
@op: Nobody cares about the AP ranking, if you arent the first, then nobody cares…at all. Sorry to break it down to you. (some people dont even care about he #1). All the rankings are used is to see which one is that person with the highest [achievable] AP score and see how far away from it you are.

I’m sure those leaderboards really mean something, No seriously.
I haven’t looked at the AP Leaderboards since they were first released. I’m not sure how prestigious having your name on there is, when many people have no idea who that is, nor will likely encounter them.
Especially, when said place on the Leaderboard comes with such distress and lack of enjoyment. Why voluntarily do something you find distasteful? I will never understand. =(
More dailies are great. They should also add weeklies. Faster achievement rewards.
Asking for them to remove dailies because you can’t keep up with the competition is a little funny. It’s like going to a PvP tournament and demanding that last year’s winner plays without a mouse because you deserve a chance.
the daily achievement point system is working as intended.
5 / 5 dailies for most people.
the minority who wishes to grind, can grind.
no pain, no gain.
I was rank 96 a few months back but now am at 256 what has changed? What I found you are less enjoying the game when you are achievement hunting added to this you have limited time to get the LS achievements which is another pain. It feels we are being pigeon holed to grind.
Now I just do my daily laurels then I move on doing my normal stuff. In about another 3-6 months i will be around rank 700+ and frankly I dont care nor should you.

At some point the pain becomes too much and it is time for a radical detox. Namely, qutting the game. I am sure you are going to retort that nobody cares and anyone is welcome to quit at any point in time. And you will be right. But consider the group of players with OCD who take the “everything or nothing” approach to a game. If achieving “everything” on that scale will start to destroy your out-of-game life, dont you think that besides a person in question having some issues (OCD is an issue), also the game tailored in such way is not “working as intended”? You could also say that cigarettes are 100% working as intended and all that is bad in them is a fault of people who are smoking them. But really? I would not share such approach. Corps who produce and do everything to sell as much of their cigarettes as they can are not fine. That being said, system which in some way encourages you to spend half of each day grinding your one-time-only dailies (hey look, you will gain more AP and rewards!) is bad. If it is not designed with some moderation, it becomes bad like a drug and the only cure for a drug is to stop using it for good.
Separates the men from the boys, I suppose.
Although at this point, I would recommend hiring a young relation part-time to do all this work for you so you can, ah, enjoy the game.

I’m sympathetic to people who legitimately feel a strong compulsion towards being a completionist; I know not being able to act on a compulsion can be very distracting, stressful, and aggravating. However, I’m not sure how much “saving people from themselves” needs to be designed into the game.
An “everything or nothing” approach to the game just isn’t a reasonable ambition. It’s too big, and rewards players for too many different things, to go full blast on all sides all the time. That’s not strictly a bad thing, because I can play the way I want (say, never doing PvE or WvW, or never doing dungeons, or skipping the Living Story to raise alts, etc.) but if I want to do everything, that is going to end up including some things I don’t like (but that others do,) or, especially in the case of dailies, too much content to reasonably take in all at once.
For an alternative to the cigarette metaphor: Just because Netflix gives me a bajillion shows to watch doesn’t mean I need to actually watch all of them. Even if I scale it down to trying to watch everything I enjoy on TV, that’s still too much TV to be healthy. There’s simply too much game to reasonably do everything. I don’t think that’s the expectation, even if we do get rewarded for it.
If someone can’t enjoy the game because they can’t complete it all, the game isn’t working as intended, but it’s an unfortunate side effect of other parts of the game that are intended. There’s not a perfect answer on this one.

Personally, I hope they keep putting more daily/monthly options. I only do the ones I like and that’s it. If they’re not fun, then I don’t do ‘em. If they keep adding more then hopefully I’ll find more I like.
I’m not sure about capping the points. I mean, if someone has the drive to do as many as possible, then why should we hold them back? Why shouldn’t they be rewarded?
Of course, a lot of places cap peewee football games nowadays. Maybe it’s the same thing? Maybe. I dunno.
Look at it this way, OP. If you grit your teeth and power on, perhaps more people in the top 500 will feel as you do and drop out, finally allowing you to claw your way up to the top.
Spending hours each day grinding Dailies is the price for being at the top of the Leaderboards. It’s what showcases true dedication.
i would welcome if they introduce 40 daily options a day while still only require us to complete 5 for the daily rewards…
mine is still around 8k++ …. i grind APs for skin and rewards, not to compete with the top tier of the leaderboard.. i’m sure many othe players too…

Leaderboards are “content” for people who want to throw massive amounts of time at a game and have it mean “something.” They’re designed for a particular demographic, one which has more time than anything else. If you’re having trouble keeping up, they aren’t for you.
Agreed, it’s getting ridiculous. After a couple month long grind of doing most dailies every day, I finally inched my way into the top 1000 yesterday. But with all these living stories and ridiculously grindy WvW achievements and now a new set of dailies, its going to take ages every day to retain a spot. Guess I’ll just take a screenshot and give up. Probably for the best, the achievement grind is like heroin once you get hooked.

waaaa 40 then the list would require scrolling down wahahhaah.
o hai there bang azizul.
hmmm i’m a casual player with about 12.5k achievement points.
…I did not even knew there was an official leaderboard that keeps track of this kitten until today. (I am at 3.3k ap or so, dunno what rank that is)
Leaderboard mean nothing. I use to be like you doing every single daily everyday. Until one day I was like this is so pointless there is no real competition for pve achievement points it just comes down to who was here first and time. If you weren’t here from release you will never have a shot at getting anywhere near the top 1k
I think what they should do is keep the current system of having lots of dailies to choose from but cap the achievement points at a relatively low number like 5 or 8. So once you’ve hit that you can still do the achievement but won’t get any points.
Most people won’t care about the cap because at most they’ll lose the odd point here and there and the obsessive leaderboard fanatics can stop grinding every single daily for a few extra points and then complaining that they’re doing it.

RIP City of Heroes
As I am one of the Top AP-grinders I really understand those concerns. I can understand why many people shake their head and point their finger at us…
But please guys, all those posts with “if you can’t keep up, then don’t do it”/“the problem lies with you – not with the game”/etc. really don’t help us.
Everybody is different and plays games differently
At the most part we are completionists – it’s our mentality to play games. It’s not that I want to brag about what I have achieved and even look down upon the rest. I am even getting every achievements in SP-games and doing it to 100% – that’s my way of enjoying a game. If I miss something it really gets to me… (to the point of not having fun anymore).
We just want to “cry for help” as it’s too late to change our playstyle – we just ask to ease our load a bit. I really enjoy the game, but as described above – in a way it’s “all or nothing”. I think if I miss too much I might consider leaving the game for good. There are many games on the shelf that want to be played.
So let’s not discuss how you can’t understand us and nobody cares about leaderboards anyways. Please keep the discussion constructive.
We desperatly want to enjoy the game, but with every AP added it becomes more of a chore.
We just want a CAP on daily Achievement-Points – that’s all there is to it and i really think it’s a valid request!

Guys, like I said…who are in this world of achiev points, more daily are the hell on earth!!!
BELIEVE ME!!! I know what i’m saying =)…. 6months doing 100%
And thx guys for constructive discussion!!! We are getting both size of the coin.

I dont collect AP for the purpose of leaderboard. In fact, I was doing AP long before leaderboard was even announced. Even more so, I would throw some money at Arena for not only to remove those leaderboards and never look back, but also to hide AP values from other players so that only you can see how much you got. Collecting AP is a playstyle. One of many. Its not better or worse from any other playstyle. Whatever suits you best. That being said, bloating dailies more and more is hindering this playstyle. People who like AP have some valid concern here. Mocking those concerns is not helpful at all. I dont downplay concerns of people representing playstyles which I dont take part in. For example I dont give a kitten’s behind about my rank in PvP ranking or future ladder system. But I understand that for some people PvP rank can mean everything. Try to be more open towards how other people are playing and trying to enjoy this game.

I wholeheartedly agree. For anyone who doesn’t care about APs a cap on the daily APs wouldn’t change anything at all but it would be a kindness to the ones that do. Personally I would very, very much appreciate such a change.
You want a cap, but a lot of players sure don’t. If I’m x AP away from the next AP reward, I want the choice to be able to go and reach that without some arbitrary daily cap time-gating it for me.

If you quit playing you stop gaining Daily AP. So why not just not do Daily AP or just do 5/5 and not quit? Less AP, Less stress, but still gaining AP and daily reward. :o If you have OCD so bad that your brain is incapable of allowing such a thing as that then go get yourself some medicine.
I used to really chase these points and it is in deed boring and mind numbing and I really started to hate the game. Still not as bad as wow dailies but getting close.
I was unhappy over an update and stopped trying to get these points. I discovered that while I was happy to not chase them that the truth was I chased them because there is nothing else for me personally to do in the game.
Now I log in, do my 5 and log out. Sad because soon enough I won’t even log in except on Tuesdays every 2 weeks to see if the patch is even worth my time. As of late it hasn’t been.
I have hopes AN will make the game interesting again but I am losing hope and faith.
" If you have OCD so bad that your brain is incapable of allowing such a thing as that then go get yourself some medicine."
I think I actually suffer from this. But it’s very hard to describe to a medical professional and have them take you seriously. lol
So…you want to be on the leader board, but you find it boring having to do dailies to stay on the leader board, and now they are adding more dailies so now you feel you will be even more bored trying to stay on the leader board.
Have you ever considered, I dunno, not competing on the leader board? Then you wouldn’t have to do any dailies. Ever. I have 10k AP ankitten ot on the leader board and I am happy as a clam. I think you’re playing the game wrong.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Well I am no where near the top of the leader board so that doesn’t really matter too much to me. I have a completion thing. Although I’ve stopped more or less now. Completing the daily is more about the rewards for me (not even that great or worth it I know)
But there isn’t much else to do honestly.
To OP:
You want to be on top of a leaderboard, it’s going to take a time investment.
You want to have fun playing your game, stop worrying about a meaningless leaderboard.
I can understand if you were in the top 10, wanting to keep your place. But really, what does being #516 earn you? Bragging right? No. Loot? No. Satisfaction? Doesn’t sound like it.

I wanted to get all achievements done in the past, not due to the points though.
Luckily I missed out on some Living Story Events … freed me from the vicious circle a while back ^^
I guess an AP limit to the PvE Daily would be okay to live with, though it has helped me get to the next Achievement reward once before logging off.
To be real fair to all: If a limit to the max possible APs through a daily were introduced, the points gained through the extras should also be taken away (if possible). Just like they did with the salvage achievement.
I apologize Seras I thought it was addressed to me

I usually only do my 5 required dailies to finish it and any other daily that I might finish while having fun is a bonus. Except this. Sometimes I do dailies I wouldn’t normally do just to push me over the edge for the next level…
We just want a CAP on daily Achievement-Points – that’s all there is to it and i really think it’s a valid request!
This.
AP hunting is a minigame some people (like me) enjoy and are extremely commited to. I think it is legit to express our concerns about the changes Anet announced to that minigame, just like a dedicated PvP player will discuss the balance changes. Since Anet is promoting this minigame through the leaderboards, I think they shouldn’t ignore that always increasing the number of daily achievements (from 5 at launch to 22 starting 10th Dec.) does not promote a healthy competition.
Setting a cap to the daily AP would be a good solution imo (something like 10AP/day from dailies, either Pve or PvP). Since a very large majority of players dont bother to do their daily achievements after getting the chest, a cap to the daily AP would almost only impact the AP grinders, the very same player that are asking for it.
The only other consequence I can think of is players that want to get their next achievement chest quickly and would have to wait one or two more days providing they dont have any other way to get fast AP (quite unlikely if they’re not themselves AP grinders)
We just want a CAP on daily Achievement-Points – that’s all there is to it and i really think it’s a valid request!
I really hope devs read this. With all these dailies i feel myself as working, not playing.
chuckle This boils down to ‘I want it, but I don’t want to work for it.’ Plain and simple, if you want it, put in the time and effort. If you don’t want to do it, then you obviously don’t want it badly enough.
This is the same as a student complaining that they should get an ‘A’ simply because they attended class, though they didn’t bother doing any of the assignments. Or someone that feels they deserve a promotion, though the rest of their team is carrying the person’s dead weight.
If you feel you are ‘working’ while playing the game, quite simply you are doing it wrong. I am not trying to insult, but take a step back and think about it logically. What other “game” would you play if it felt like work? Simply, you wouldn’t. Games are not intended to be jobs, but the only person that can decide how to approach your game play is you. It is you that is making the decision to turn your play into a job, instead of letting it be enjoyable, because you are making the decision on how you opt to play. No one is telling you that you have to do all the dailies, hell no one is saying you have to do any of them. You choose to, for some arbitrary reason which you justify to yourself. The only person that can change that is you. Do not make the game hold you hand and make your choices for you, or we will end up with more crap like time gated materials.
What next, someone requesting that the game impose a time limit for us because it’s not fair that some people can play 8 hours a day while others can only maybe play 1 or 2? No thank you.
I would not care for a cap on Daily Achievement tasks. I enjoy doing the ones I want to, for the points I get, and ignore the ones I don’t care for. Not sure why my play-style is any less valid. If doing too many tasks is causing distress, beside the fact that that would be against the ToS, don’t do them?
As I am one of the Top AP-grinders I really understand those concerns. I can understand why many people shake their head and point their finger at us…
