I thought the goal of the game was to let everyone play how they want, when they want?

Nope. Again, when they say, “We don’t want players to grind” they are telling people that grinding won’t be a playstyle as supported in the game as casual play. That is for the betterment of the game, for the records.

Simple solution that will please the maximum number of people: Implement sPvP gearing and leveling in WvW with free transmutes for PvE armor. Traditional MMO fans can grind ad infinitum in PvE in pursuit of progression. Players in favor of horizontal progression are probably more PvP inclined and can play all varieties of builds on par with everyone else without needing to grind first.

Traditional MMO fans, aka grinders, have half a dozen PvE MMOs to play already. GW2 is the only MMO close to something enjoyable for a PvE player who doesn’t like grind, aka isn’t deceived to become a donkey chasing a carrot.

I said it would please the maximum number of people… not everyone lol. Judging by the forums and what I assume is Anet’s professional market research, there is a strong demand for vertical progression. Fine, GW2’s PvE is nothing special. I do hope they don’t ruin WvW though, it’s quite good and no other fantasy MMO offers anything like it.

Bravo for removing the other crazy daily choice, however, please bring the underwater kills back It was as easy as the kill variety and should stay. The one you should remove is the Dodge one. Not only does it never register when i dodge but 3% of the time, it doesn’t count when the enemies are charging up big attacks.

OMG new dailys make me sad…. I just do the daily every day with my character because i dont have much time to play, and new dailys take me more time and make me angry…. DODGE… CRAFT… UNDERWATER KILLS… COMBO KILLS….. They ruined the unique fun i have on the game…. Plz fix it….

I am VERY dissappointed in the new daily achievement changes. I am not interested in crafting, and I doubt I ever will be. I was drawn to this game because of the freedom and flexibility inherent in its design. If there had been options added to the original daily achievements activities (choose 5 of these 7 or 8 ) I would have loved it. As it is, I’m actually beyond irritated and getting pretty angry. Please deliver on your promise ASAP:

In the future, we’ll be adding support to allow you to complete your dailies by finishing a subset from a larger list. We want to give you the freedom to play the content that interests you. The list will change daily to provide an array of options for earning your laurels. Pick what interests you, play, and be rewarded!

If that can’t be delivered right away, then change it back, please!

‘Elite’ in all 9 professions. I take mediocrity seriously!

What the hell. Are you people serious? Dodge, you can complete in five minutes. Craft in ten seconds. Underwater kills, oh noes! Combo kills, you mean you can’t spam #1 and watch stuff die anymore for the daily?

And for those who haven’t figured out dodging, you have to evade attacks. If you dodge too early or dodge when nothing would have hit you anyway it doesn’t count. I racked up my dodge daily just by dodging random mobs while going through an area.

Healer works on NPC’s as well, not just players. Really easy to do.

Come on people, try playing the kitten game for more than five minutes before complaining.

odd,i just rechecked and on all of my characters it says 2 laurels now in the inventory (it wouldn’t be nice if it forced you to play on 1 character to get anywhere for that character with laurels so i prefer it adds to the whole account inventory like anet points..cause i wouldnt like it if I could only spent laurels on character I finish dailies on

This system for picking from a list for dailies, along with rotating in new more specific achievements will be added in a later release to build on the system going forward. As discussed in the Gw2 in 2013 blog post this is really just the ground work for the systems coming down the road.

As a Ranger I demand that all my pets get a dodge ability so that I can complete the dodge daily without having to turn my pet off. As it is, I have to put my pet on passive and get in close and tight with my shortbow.

I feel silly doing it. But some would say I should feel silly picking a ranger anyway. I dislike the new dailies.

Im also a ranger (mainly shortbow but long for some aoe) and i had no problem at all with that daily. You don’t need to put yer pet on passive just stop fighting things that your pet insta kills (im assuming u went to a low level mob to try to get yer dodge quota). easiest is karkas, fire at one, stay out of line of sight of your pet and just dodge, or better still go to a karka vet or event in southsun cove.

The first lot of dailies (pre-midnight) were a little annoying with that whole combo thing. What I thought were combo fields and finishers didnt seem to make any sense etc when getting the kills. But anyway, I think its alot better and more varied having differenciating dailies and im happy with it

Took me 20 mins to do the first daily, and another 20 for the 2nd, if you don’t have 20 mins to spare a day for one daily, wtf are you doing playing games then? get back to what ever else is in your life.

You can always use one of your four other characters as well if it’s really that much of a problem. Personally I did it with my ranger and my pet was in combat, it’s not that hard unless you’re purposefully trying to do all fifteen in the same instance.

I don’t think dailies are meant to be grinded in fifteen minutes like everyone currently thinks they are. Some of the daily requirements are stupid and buggy (looking at you, kill combos that robbed me of my dailies.) but I love the fact that they’re random every day instead of having to do the same thing every single day, making it feel like less of a grindfest and making me feel like I worked for the laurels I got.

People just hate change if it’s not handing them the game on a silver platter.

You don’t have to revive a dead player as far as I understood, you just gotta help a downed player.

The daily is easy.
Crafting can be done in matter of seconds
Dodge also easy if you want it done fast lure worms or other low level mobs etc.
Underwater is easy too, go to low level zone and kill salmon and other low level critters, you can 1 shot em easily

Not everyone is going to be able to go to fight karkas for their daily, and not everyone who can will want to.

Daily achievements should be something that can be completed during the course of normal play — that is what was so great about the ‘old’ daily’s. You could just pick up where you left off in zone completion and go, and at some point you’d know you would finish your daily (unless you were somewhere weird like Orr, and mob variety was low, but then you could go somewhere else briefly or alt etc).

If time was of the essence or you didn’t feel like doing map completion you could hop to a low level zone and do some events, and pick the daily’s up along the way.

You could also do them in WvW.

Now by making them ‘overly creative’ in nature, it’s getting more problematic to just finish them as you wander the world.

Oh … craft things? Wait, I have all my crafts at max 400. I don’t NEED to craft anything. And the crafted things are generally worth less on the TP. Uhm. Great. So I have to take some cloth or ore or wood and grind it up, or take time each day to cook (not something fun) and churn out goods. This is silly.

Combos? Combos happen all the time. But to have to FORCE it? And with another player? What if I don’t see anyone because I’m in a low pop zone and it’s 4am? Do I miss out on my daily because no one is around? That’s absolutely stupid. Yes it’s an MMO but I shouldn’t be forced to get this done by running around and looking for other people to do a combo field.

Dodging? I dodge or sometimes I’ll soak. Sometimes I’ll dodge early, oh wait that doesn’t count!

selective objectives would be the next step in the good direction
A few things that could take dailies to a next level:
*specific locations
*social activities that require interaction,socializing and participation within the city walls(perhaps even players roleplaying their race could get extra racial bonus within thier city)
*fight agains the enemies of the races (inquest,sons o svanir,nightmare court,centaur,..)so your servers gets more reinforcement in wvw of the race(s) that got sufficient support in pve during several days
*if you go to puzzles,dungeons,fractals you could choose the adventure-mode daily where you get extra tools to discover nice thingies (find x amount artifacts in dungeons experementing away with these tools.
if you enable this mode you can get several random tools from the scout and then its up to you to find out what to do with them

I’ll have to defend these because:

1) Crafting – if you are level 400 then it shouldn’t be a least bit of a problem. If you play pve chances are you’ll be gathering around along the way, which is always a good idea. If you don’t – well you might start. Crafting 20 ingots or planks/low level foods is not that hard, takes seconds:P

2)Combos do happen all the time and that is exactly why I see no reason why they shouldn’t come back when they fix it, if they are working on a fix. It’s not our fault the thing was bugged and made it more difficult then it should. I actually liked for once killing stuff with other players in other areas then Orr and some were asking me to help them complete that and I gladly joined. The only thing I have is F1 skill on my longbow for burning as a warrior and that worked (most of the time). Imo this was the best way and best idea to bring people together to play because that is what this game is about. They shouldn’t cater to solo players only because the game is player-friendly and you can only benefit by killing a mob with another player.

3) Cmon man. Complaining about dodging? Like you don’t dodge all the time in dungeons and Orr . You get rewarded for something trivial, technically for not even trying.

4) Underwater – I can see how camping a spot can be a problem but there are plenty of underwater areas in the game, and tons of underwater caves that few players ever go to. Ever tried that cave in Frostgorge Sound with worms? It’s no different then killing stuff on land, this just adds variety. Who knows, maybe I could actually find someone to do underwater events !

I used to like doing my dailys.
But the Combo thing i just don’t understand.

why am i forced to have help from other players when i like doing my own thing?
i lost out on a daily because of that combo thing.
also ppl with slower connections wont stand a chance because the ppl with super fast connections can fin the enemy off with the flag combo before you even get a chance.

I don’t mind most of the new dailys but this combo thing needs to be sorted out.
it no fun when ppl can beat you to the post.
after 1 hour in wvw i got zero even though i fin them with the combo flag

tbh this game is becoming less fun with every patch imo.

They lied, and you have to do all 5.

I also thought that and reread it and it says “We’ll add support so daily achievements will be different each day of the week, which will help drive players to different areas of the world and play together. Later, we’ll also be adding a system that lets you complete a subgroup of achievements to fulfill your daily. For example, if there are 6 daily achievements available, you’ll only need to do 4 of the 6, so you can choose the achievements that you’re most interested in.” So I suppose, they will add it in the future and was not saying this current update.. I wish they didn’t do anything at all till it was properly in place.

1) Crafting 10 things is silly. It just is. Even if it’s planks or ingots. It’s forcing me to consume my own valuable resources to create items for a daily. I don’t want to consume my items, I want to sell them.

2) If my schedule is such that I am on during low population times, why should I have to hunt another player in some random zone just to perform combos to finish a daily?My time is precious, and porting around hunting and pecking or begging someone to come with me isn’t my idea of fun, plus porting costs money. I want that money. You’re forcing people to rely on others and that is where it falls through. Other people are not always reliable. MMO or not, cooperation doesn’t always happen. Plus, do I have to buy new weapons if my ‘new friend’ has only one weapon and it’s a combo breaker, and I don’t have a combo field weapon? Do I have to change my playstyle altogether just to do this daily and run with weapons I’m not comfortable with using or don’t like?

3) Not everyone is a dodge-professional. This is again a ‘hunt for a mob you can actually dodge’ if you’re not as agile or quick on the trigger as other people. That isn’t fun. Finding 25 different mobs is easy, finding that one that YOU can dodge every time isn’t.

4) Underwater? This wasn’t a chore really, but the competition for the mobs in the starting zones where there are a large concentration of events and mob assortments was a bit hectic. It was a bit challenging to tag mobs before they died. And so you say ‘go somewhere else’ …again, that’s time + possible money spent.

And a note on the combo portion of the dailies again:

I would rather they go back to what they had before where I could feel good about accomplishing something and like my fellow man being there, rather than feeling angry that they’re not putting up the right things for me to coordinate a combo with. Too much communication is required for it to work efficiently.

I don’t mind running in and helping people in events, sharing the common enemy, but I sure as heck don’t want to sit down and figure between me and someone else what they’re going to use and what I’m going to use to bring down x mob to get the combo portion of a daily done.

If time was of the essence or you didn’t feel like doing map completion you could hop to a low level zone and do some events, and pick the daily’s up along the way.

You could also do them in WvW.

Now by making them ‘overly creative’ in nature, it’s getting more problematic to just finish them as you wander the world.

Oh … craft things? Wait, I have all my crafts at max 400. I don’t NEED to craft anything. And the crafted things are generally worth less on the TP. Uhm. Great. So I have to take some cloth or ore or wood and grind it up, or take time each day to cook (not something fun) and churn out goods. This is silly.

Combos? Combos happen all the time. But to have to FORCE it? And with another player? What if I don’t see anyone because I’m in a low pop zone and it’s 4am? Do I miss out on my daily because no one is around? That’s absolutely stupid. Yes it’s an MMO but I shouldn’t be forced to get this done by running around and looking for other people to do a combo field.

Dodging? I dodge or sometimes I’ll soak. Sometimes I’ll dodge early, oh wait that doesn’t count!

You’re making it overly complex to get rewarded for playing. It’s not FUN any more.

Kill things underwater? Wait, with the 20 other people all crammed into the same spot fighting over mobs? sigh

Try to think things through. Please.

Did you let someone go into a black hole somewhere and get carried away with designing this, and toss user centered design out the window, and throw away use cases?

My point was the daily dodge thing. dont expect to dodge things that your pet kills or u can one hit. I replied to the post as a ranger that doesnt need to stow a pet to try and dodge something it or I can one hit cos thats just being lazy. I merely suggested karkas as something that doesnt take one hit. And I disagree with the course of ‘normal’ play to some point because if yer a level 80 (say without any alts) whats the course of ‘normal’ play? The variety is welcomed with me as opposed to the same old reptativeness

I was pretty excited to get back into this game and do those new dailies. Then I saw the requirements. Dodging and reviving people are inherently un-motivational.
They are non-activities.

A regression from playing a game into some new form of quality assurance. “Go revive 20 people to make sure there isn’t some bug with reviving people.”
Reviving someone is its own reward that you even get experience from. Now you are just going to have people standing in large groups committing suicide so that they all knock that requirement out of the way.

Doing events is fine, killing creatures and gathering were fine. Please don’t make up things to do for the sake of making someone do “something”.

I think the point was is that they are trying to vary the dailies as opposed to keeping them the same. Also the new laurel rewards are more motivation to complete them as these rewards werent around before

You’re missing the point in several instances.

1) It’s a waste of materials. I have 9 level 80 characters, and all my skills are 400. I have no need for low level components, and no need to craft. Crafting raw materials devalues them. Yes, I gather while I am out playing. This is my income. If I am on a particular day where I’m in a hurry, or don’t want to spend the day on gw2, then I won’t generate enough materials to whip out 10 bolts of cloth or 10 planks or 10 bars of whatever. I have no desire to cook 10 low level foodstuffs; it’s a waste.

Cooking 10 high level useful items is a waste as well; I’d do that in bulk because it is time consuming. The cooking interface isn’t seamless enough for me to just select an end product and say ‘make 10 of these’ and be done even if I have all the materials; I’d have to make all the subcomponents, and I don’t want to stand around and do that. I’d rather work on map completion for my other characters.

2) You missed the part about me playing at 4am and no one else is around. Stop putting me in your shoes. This game is for all the people who play it, my point about user centered design is simply that they should have taken that into consideration. It’s fine when people ebb and flow together; but forcing it when I could be in a dead zone and what I want to work on that day — say map completing a particular area — has few people in it. It’s hard enough in some zones to complete some of the more interesting event chains when soloing and playing certain professions. Not all of my characters are created equal.

3) You assume I play in Orr and do dungeons every day. Not going to go into my play habits, but … surprise, I don’t do anything ‘every day’ except try to get my PvP and PvE daily’s done.

4) Again, you’re missing the overall point of my post. Sure, ANet is trying to nudge players out of their shells and into the gameworld. Well, I already have been out in the gameworld and I don’t like the boot that they pressed to my rear. It is unpleasant and didn’t feel good. They didn’t take playing the game for fun into consideration when implementing their scheme to get people to keep using the content.

As a player whose characters’ boot treads are plenty worn from ‘seeing the world,’ instead of weaving the tasks into the course of game-play, they have added it as tasks.

You might argue ’you’re getting a jug of karma and laurenl and stuff for doing it, quit your whining!’ I’d say, I have stacks of jugs of karma and coins, haven’t used them; I was doing the daily and monthly achievements for the sense of having accomplished something during the course of gameplay that was going that extra step. Gathering when I had no need to do it, or no desire to run those few steps on the map for a node. Killing that hapless bug that wasn’t part of a quest. Going on a slaughter to get a body count up. Doing events even though I don’t need the karma or xp or skill points.

Adding the onus of now having to find other people to lay down combo fields, map travel to a particular zone to find the right mob that I can kite for 10 minutes while I time dodges right because dodging early gets me nothing, traveling somewhere else to get to a body of water that isn’t overfarmed… now instead of a mystery adventure wandering the map, it’s more of a tactical execution of getting things done.

Frankly, it’s just not as much fun.

Actually, I’m happy with the new dailies. Since they’re a crazy pain to get with my play-style, I won’t even bother with them anymore and just enjoy doing what I enjoy. I’m not just being completely silly either (okay, maybe a little) but before it was just close enough to what I do anyway that I’d worry about completing it. Now, it’s so far off the way I play, I’m freed from even thinking about it. =)

And yeah, I know I’m not gunna be uber cool with this and that that I could get with laurels and what-not. But, eh, that’s not why I play anyway.

Sounds like you should start taking two or three extra steps instead. After all, it sounds like you like going that extra mile anyway. I feel like everyone is blowing this all out of context over one daily achievement… We haven’t even seen all the different randomized rotations.

Also, I love that you say that it has become a “calculated task” when beforehand it was literally fulfilling the exact same requirements every day, as if repeatedly doing that wasn’t a grindfest… At least ArenaNet is trying to spice things up rather than leaving us with the same boring requirements every day.

I’m not going to bother anymore, no one is ever happy with change until three days later where they just accept it. It’s the same way with YouTube and Facebook’s UI changes: People just get the hell over it and move on and don’t even remember what it used to be like in the first place.

Well to be completely honest I don’t think that most people play at 4 am. I won’t ask for your reason because that is your thing but I simply don’t understand why are some people so against it. They announced a fix to empty zones and this can be only helpful but people will never be satisfied obviously, unless they add 50 new things each month :/
If you log in just for the dailies I can understand your frustration but that is not how most people play. Most people log in to play lots of content and not actively doing dailies, daily achievement is something you do along the way while playing pve and dungeons.

And you don’t need stuff like tiny fangs or scales. Low level stuff for cooking for example is something you can always make with ease. You don’t need to farm it’s stuff you get while you play and have fun. Wasn’t trying to put yourself in my shoes but you also shouldn’t make it sound like this sucks for everybody. Most people I know and play with have 0 problem with this and love it.

You’re making assumptions (perhaps the same erroneous way that ANet did) about ‘normal gameplay.’ The point about invoking user centered design is that ‘normal’ game play is defined by the user(s) themsel/ves. What’s normal to you isn’t normal to me.

And why would I want 10 balls of dough? To throw it away? To make 10 pies to eat quickly toward my eating 1000 things achievement? It’s a waste of time and resources (in my opinion). I don’t farm the game for money. I play to have fun. I’m not going to go buy stuff to crank out a daily requirement. Waste is waste. Yeah some people probably will just roll their eyes, but I’m not rich and rolling in gold, and I won’t ever be.

You have your opinion, I have mine. Waste and lack of fun, things that just seem a forced way to send me in search of specific goals instead of letting me finish map completion on my characters is … silly. I was already out in the world seeing it over and over again. It seems that in their haste to force players to see the world, they are implementing punitive tasks rather than creative fun and play. If you can’t see the difference, I don’t know how much more I can wave hands and type to try to convey this.

Want me to dodge 15 times? Make a monster that if I don’t dodge, it hurts. Want me to use combo fields? Create a monster that only takes damage from one. Want me to go to kill karka? Oh wait I just killed a 1000 of them for another achievement, no thanks.

Sure, it maybe easy as matter of 10 second, but there is clearly people doesn’t care about crafting (Not me, I like them), more so, even if it’s 10 second if you can achieve by doing the refinement, what’s the point?

I used to log on every day to do dailies. Even when I’m going through downtime from GW2 and playing other games, I still logged in for 30-45 minutes to do the daily one whichever character I was working on. I liked the experience, the jugs of karma, and the account achievement points.

Now? I’m not so sure. I just spent over an hour trying to get 15 perfect dodges. That’s after the 30-45 minutes doing 5 events and getting the rest of the objectives. This is painful, the game I’ve enjoyed so much is now punishing me for doing one my favorite activities. Bad form, I hope this gets scaled back to reasonable…
