Everything you linked is something tied to tradition or holidays, living story, content updates not ordinary “patches”. I never said that they “must” release patch on tuesdays, but they always done that get your facts straight.

When they release content as you described they do it via a download which alters the files in your game directory (or adds new ones). This procedure is commonly known as patching. How one is able to state seriously that content updates aren’t patches eludes me.

That said I am happy that ArenaNet takes its time to deliver a decent patch, even though I really hoped to experience the first person view today…

The camera is a very sensitive topic and to all those people who are complaining: Believe me, if you got a patch with a bad camera mechanic, you’d be crying louder.

I understand that you want to test the patch at firt.
However, I got a question.
Will you release the patch, when its finished or do you wait till next Tuesday?

Thanks Gaile, we all really appreciate the update, even if some of us don’t know how to express it very well.

While I’m definitely on the side of “Let’s appreciate them communicating on this”, I think there are a couple of issues:

1) Why are things being done on a schedule where this happens? Patches are often undergoing last minute updates, and coming out at random times. Wouldn’t it just be easier to set the dates slightly less optimistically in the first place?

2) While communication is great when it happens, what actually is the system? We can’t be given information about SAB (a year and a half after people paid real cash to be able to play it and have been denied refunds since), we can’t be given information about traits (oh my how is that still happening), but we are given information about this?

1. Delaying something on the day/day before (depending on your timezone), something is supposed to be released is not cool.

I would assume that it was simply something that turned up/broke just before they were making it ready for release. That is simply how development works. Maybe it all worked out great on Friday, but they decided to fix something else yesterday and it broke something horribly. Should they just go ahead and release it anyway?

Ah dang, that’s a pity. Hope the update isn’t delayed too much. I’m really looking forward to the camera updates.

Gem Store updates have never been predicated on live game updates/patches, so whatever may cause a delay in updating the Gem Store may have nothing to do with whatever is delaying the upcoming game patch.

On the other hand: it may. Take for example SAB. If the patch containing SAB is delayed it would make sense to delay gem shop updates containing SAB items. Otherwise it would spoil the surprise.

Now on topic: Chill people, they strive to give us less buggy content so just have a bit more patience. Some of the changes are big so it’s only natural that a lot of use cases should be tested.

Simple. Since things sometimes do get delayed, and no amount of screaming at them will make them be ready on previously announced schedule, if players will demand strict adherence of schedule, then the solution is obvious. Stop announcing the schedule.
We had it that way for nearly two years. I do not want to see them to return to that totat blackout information strategy.

Yeah that’s my problem too. If you are going to delay something, don’t do it on the day of the deadline. You can’t convince me Anet didn’t realize they couldn’t make the deadline until the last moment.

If you are serious about quality, you keep doing testing even after the schedule is “set into stone”. Just in case. And if you happen to find a major bug on the day of the patch, if it is serious enough you should press the big red panic button and stop the release.
And if you think that situations like this never happen, i’d like you to get acquainted with Mr Murphy.

Anet is not known for pushing back release dates after they announce them. If they decided to do it this time, i must assume it’s something really serious. In that case, i’d rather see it delayed, but fixed, than have them release a broken content.

Actually, I used to live here, and for me “armour” really does have two “u’s.” I have to consciously remove the second “u” in all sorts of words. (One of the founders of ArenaNet gently told me we needed to go with “armor” back when I first started writing website content.)

Thanks for keeping us updated on the patch btw. Better that it’s delayed and working than released and broken.

I love watching how people get so worked up over things not being released, when originally told. Things take time, just ask any veteran GW1 player on how long we were promised GW2 and had to keep waiting. Yea it can kinda bite however, the end result is worth the wait. So calm down little ones, this too shall pass.

Even though I really wanted that collision detection, I’m glad you guys decided to let us know ASAP instead of us waiting for the patch all day thanks Gaile!

I hope we can at least get a new release date soon, if not a rough estimate. For all we know it could be a delay of a day or a week.

If they had a date it is quite likely that they would have given us one. The problem with giving estimates is that people are unable to understand the difference between an estimation and a set in stone promise. Therefore it is quite unlikely that we will hear anything about a release until it is 100% ready.

To go from that hype to, “If we get more information about an anticipated timeframe for the build’s release we’ll try to provide that info in advance”, is a huge disappointment.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying Anet is screwing the pooch here. I understand that crap happens and there’s nothing you can do about it. This is a huge bummer for the players as well as Anet. That shoudnt be a problem if is a toggle and its an option. I for one im really sick of always having to hold it. If you know you have to hold it 90% of the time why not just make it an option toggle? Its a simple thing that would help alot of people.

Perhaps it was working and they realised at the last minute more time was needed. They aren’t giving a timetable because they don’t have one. A delay is no major issue because it will iron out the problems they have clearly stumbled into and I disagree they have hyped it up big time. The players over-hyped it up themselves, not Anet.

First, you at least put it politely so thank you. That said, this is exactly why they stopped communicating much with the community. If they open up and say something, then get unforeseen delays, or even have to scrap something, they have people up in arms (usually much less polite than this, but the same message).

I miss the early days when they were very open on what they were working on and they’re hopes for the game. Sadly that era ended due to all the negative responses they got when things delayed. They have recently opened up a little (nowhere near what they use to do though) and I’m grateful.
