[Suggestion] Increase in Level Cap
Why?
Random filler message that is ruining my point behind simply asking why, since there is a minimum character count for posting.

Yeah. Let’s do that and make all the gear in the game outleveled.
On second thought, let’s don’t.
Perhaps the OP doesn’t like being at a level that is divisible by 8?

Seems reasonable! MOAR LEVELS then!
Sigh…

I really don’t see a need or good use for more levels. I vote no.
That really wouldn’t fly well with the community at this point, I think.

You can fill up the rest of your 15 characters with empty spacebar spaces.

Or say something like
/15 characters or /15 dancing Asura.
Don’t think you’ll find a lot of support for your idea on these forums OP. This game was never supposed to be about continually getting more levels or higher stats or gear.
Was wondering if maybe the GW2 team could raise the level cap from 80 to i dont know maybe 100 or something, give a little more.
I don’t see anything 100 levels would give that 80 wouldn’t, with the sole exception of invalidating all current gear. Which is something i’d really hate to see.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Perhaps something more to do at lvl 80 , a lvl increase doesn’t seem to bring anything to the game beside a gear treadmill , which is dangerous in some aspects.
I think raising the level cap would be the final blow given the community we have. Ascended was a push for a lot, traits and the NPE was a push for many of those remaining… raising the level cap would just give people a definitive excuse to go.
There’d be a lot of people who stayed, but a heck of a lot would go. And they’d go LOUDLY.
we already have infinite levels, we dont need more than infinite
No please don’t, raising level caps is something I really dislike about new additions to the game.
Why? What would the point be?
Higher levels constantly being added to other MMOs are a means to invalidate gear and constantly push players up the gear grind treadmill of vertical progression.
Vertical progression in other MMOs is a big deal because it affects your performance and your capacity to participate in various amounts of content in that game.
This game has very little vertical progression that in no way affects your viability in the game or your ability to complete content.
GW2 focuses on a horizontal progression system which is completely different.
So – again I ask – why change the game’s entire design philosophy ?
again
we already have infinite levels, we dont need more than infinite
you still level up at 80 because then skillpoints become a currency for the more difficult max level things
Nope nope nope.
GW2 is designed for horizontal, nor vertical progression. There is already enough vertical progression. There is already ascended and legendary gear. Raising the level cap makes no sense and adds absolutely nothing to the game. The way forward is simply to add more content for players to play, the level cap doesn’t need to go up for that. The scaling system makes levels a little redundant anyway.
GW2 is horizontal in the same way that GW1 was. GW1’s level cap was never increased, it wouldn’t make sense to do it for GW2.

[+] Arguments in favour:
- That other game has it; we’ve seen it done there and enjoyed it.
- A game without progression is pointless. We cannot feel good if we’re not progressing in the game, gear progression and level cap increase will refresh the game and bring people back.
[-] Arguments against:
- This game is about horizontal progression, not vertical progression. Primarily: skins. That’s why it’s nicknamed Fashion Wars (not Gear Grind Wars), and many people like it for that very reason. Other games squeeze out your money by introducing an obligatory new stat level with every patch; GW2 is honest with you: you paid once and you’re done, you won’t be artificially pushed to pay for the game to “keep up with others”. This is a thing a lot of people start appreciating at some point.
- Apart from players who simply enjoy challenges which come with gear progression, there is a considerable amount of players who need gear progression to establish psychological superiority (see also Open-world PvP and Dueling). These players are focused on infinite progression because they can use online video games as a compensation for unsatisfied offline desires (being “better” by comparing oneself to “noobs”). The above usually goes along with offensive behaviour (with as far as death threat whispers), which is not tolerated in GW2. To discourage this kind of players from joining the community, GW2 instead encourages players to work on horizontal progression (looks) or towards the minor long-term vertical goals like ascended and/or legendary gear, fractals personal reward level and PvP/WvW ranks. A considerable amount of players like GW2 for this “casual” atmosphere and would prefer to have as little unhealthy competition among players as possible.
- It contradicts the GW2’s concept of “pay once, come back when you want”. Casual-type players, unlike hardcore, do not like to be overwhelmed and left behind when they come back, they can as well drop the game altogether. Ascended rarity has already caused an uproar (and according to some claims, lead to many players leaving), while it is rather achievable for an active player and the stat difference can be outweighed by skill. Another level of rarity will split the community even more, possibly resulting in an exodus of players with buyer’s remorse.
- Challenge can be increased by giving new mechanics to enemies and by increasing their stats without raising the level cap. We can already see it done in zones like Silverwastes.
[=] Current state of affairs:
- “Gear progression” threads are met with negativity by those who bought the advertised casual “no gear treadmill” game, and with positivity from players from other games who are naturally used to gear progression and view it as an incentive to play. The negative approach is considerable.
Adding levels doesn’t add anything to the game. We still gain skill points on level up, and, in order to avoid messing up traits, ANet would have to push the player’s access to traits from lv30 to lv50(!) I think that’d be a seriously unhealthy change, personally.

NO. If you weren’t bored leveling from level 20 to 80 already.. you’re sure to be now. OP you are now officially a no-life korean grind lover.
Whats the point to increase lvl cap since your lvl goes down when u visit a low lvl area?
I think what the game needs is more of an overhaul to the difficulty of content.
When a lv80 player returns to the starting zone, he is weakened. Nevertheless, you still can solo large clouds of mobs without difficulty simply ebcause the armor and its upgrades are of higher quality.
I believe this game would really benefit from a ‘hard mode’ like we had in gw1, or an overhaul to the current downgrade system, making it a bit more viable.
some older players already have a bunch of tomes of knowledge siting in their banks. They would just instantly pop to the max lvl that way.
New level cap should also mean new zones ,at least 2 that will give us content for those new levels.Besides fun and having a sense of “completion” there is no point in going in such zones unless living story is done there. Since 100% world completion doesnt apply to new zones.
Also fractals should get a update with that as well. no challenge in killing mobs that are 5-20 lvls under you..
Another awesome suggestion:
Diminish levels back to max of lvl 20 like in GW1

Got 46 charaters who all vote no to increase the level cap, all looking at their wallet in panic.
Bad enough when patches makes some runes/sigils worthless and lots of them have to go and get new runes/sigils again.
Appart from that i dont see the need, since you need to redesign the traits to match the new levels and tons of other things need to be reworked to work with the level increase. Better if they focus on fixing some of the many bugs instead of making new bugs with useless level increase.
How the frack do you have 46 characters?? i have eight and theyre all waiting impatiently to be played
Ever heard of a term called power curve. Level 80 or 100 doesnt make any difference, its an illusion. You go up in level (mindless grind, can throw away all your precious equipement), but the the foes do exactly the same. It does not make you stronger in any way. Its not gameplay, its only grind all the way till you burn out.

I know right. Lol. I have 8 also and if I play them equally (and I try to do so) that means each gets played for a couple of hours once every 8 days then has to stand aside to wait their turn again.
No. Levels are artificial meaningless progressions. Games should have 0.

The only reason I could see them increasing the cap would be to justify adding another tier of traits.
NO!
Absolutely not!
Unnecessary!
Ugh I was just having this conversation with my coworker. I think I’ll go smack him just cause I can’t smack the OP.

Man, do you have a CHRO char to manage your other characters? And what if you don’t remember where you left that sinister trinket you absolutely want to use? shivers

Same here. I do not want to buy new gear for my 20 characters…

Tip : destroy all your armor, weapons and trinkets .. and grind out new stuff.
Since that is mostly what a new level cap does.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
they would increase the level cap to 82 for that negligible 2-5% increase in stats
Gates Of Madness
Jewelcrafting to 500!
Was wondering if maybe the GW2 team could raise the level cap from 80 to i dont know maybe 100 or something, give a little more.
No. Absolutely not.
There’s no point. As it is the level cap is too high and they had to adjust the trait system to make levels past 60 actually mean something.
Also, resetting peoples gear and making them have to chase after the gear grind all over especially with ascended equipment and legendaries… if they raise the cap, I’m done with this game. I’m not doing these grinds again.
Level cap raise is not EXPANSION it’s REPLACEMENT. the progression is an ILLUSION.
If anything I wish this game would drop down to a cap of 30.
Hell, I’m not even sure why we have 80 levels or levels at all tbh…
I guess the “feelings” that “I’m moving forward” works as a powerful motivator, right?
Don’t forget that raising the level cap is even more complicated in GW2 than other games, since it implies you’ll get more trait points. Even 2 more trait points would make some builds incredibly, incredibly OP. Everything in the game would need to be re-balanced from scratch.

Every game has to completely rebalance when they raise the cap, they have to create new ratings systems and everything and even then stats get stupidly inflated to where they no longer mean anything. All to propel the ILLUSION that you are progressing.
Level cap increases cause problems, they’re just not worth it.
I really hope there will never be increase in level cap, but I also have this slight feeling that it is exactly what is going to happen if the coming thing indeed is an expansion. Something very pointless like additional 5 levels that does nothing else, but is enough to mess with the economy and force people to gear up again. :P
Increasing the levels now would immeasurably anger those who spent hundreds of gold (or more) making ascended gear for their chars just to have it below level cap. Considering how angry some were that ascended was put in the game at all, I don’t think those players would forgive ANet for that.
