Teq can be killed, but it takes too long to get set up and organized. Wasting 30-45 minutes before even getting to start the Teq battle isn’t fun; but waiting until 15 minutes before the battle starts to join the map pretty much guarantees failure.

It isn’t worthwhile anymore.

As was stated probably many many times, simply doubling Teq’s HP was not the answer. A +50% boost maybe. Before the update on condi being king Teq would go down on the average at about 8 minutes. On the first day of condi he went down at 12 minutes in my instance.

Now, post Friday HP boost it took us until the 6:30 mark to get to the very first battery phase. And then the burn failed by a slight margin. And when he appeared to be at half health he never entered in to the next battery phase. We had around 3:45 left when he most likely hit half health. We could have done it. Well, anyway, the fix was not a fix, it was simply a way to make the event take longer. First Teq fail I’ve seen in 3 months.

On a side note: another side-effect was players that were used to first battery phase happening at around 9 min or so, players started leaving using the “gg cya” phrase.

Good luck getting into a TTS instance all.

With only 50% more any half decent map would still skip all the turret defense phases.

Therefore making it an AFKfest again.

Another thing that gets mentioned here a lot is the kittenty reward.
You measure it in gold/time.
What? Is this your dayjob?
See it as an assemble of kittenty crap loot iced with 17k karma and the chance of an ascended weapon chest with a nice skin plus 2 gold (yes 2 not one, pay closer attention to your inventory before you loot the big chest and open the exotic one in your inventory).
If i would see it that way you do i would not even bother starting the game up.
One hour of real work out there in any given kittenty job can buy me pretty much about 800gems, which in turn translates to currently 145 gold or something like that.
Even if i would not live in an first world country but rather in a third word one, farming this for the gold would still not be viable in any way.
Stop looking at it from this point of view.

Besides, many people complain about not finding a map while still coming about an hour before the event even starts… silly people.
Just accept the fact that there is something called teamspeak.
2015 and people still refuse to use proper tools… what is it? 1995 for them?
Many guilds that still manage to kill it, use it.
There are open server communities everywhere.
Just join on their TS. You don´t even have to join any guilds for that.
Most of them start about 15minutes prior to the event (at least the more effective ones). Just be on their TS and listen, you don´t even have to talk.
This is where i really love my guild, 5-10 minutes preparation (depending on how many new players are online) is more than enough to make proper parties. No slacking or wasting time. Still getting an easy kill.
Call me elitist if you like, i just don´t like wasting time.

As for NA servers, besides ATT and TTS i am pretty sure that they also have those communities over there. Currently not really in the loop about NA.

I’m not sure how Tequatl is an “afk” sort of fight. I look away for 3 seconds and end up dead. Although I am somewhat new, been playing for 2 months…so I could be missing something.

I joined several fights this weekend, all failed. I attempted one later last night (Sunday night) and there may have been 30 people in total there. People are simply leaving early if they see not enough people, or not enough damage being done early in the fight.

Hopefully this is addressed quickly because this is a fun fight, at least it was before they “fixed” it.

I agree that simply doubling the HP is a horrible solution. Anet gives us the “yay we’re lifting the cap on conditions making the players more powerful” then they nullify it (and then some) with the double HP on bosses.

And it’s not just Teq. SB is an obnoxiously long and boring fight, having to knock down portals 6+ times.

You aren’t. Some people intentionally downplay the difficulty of that fight for the argument’s sake, because they want this content to be exclusive to limited few.

Everyone besides newbies should be familir with this content by now but thats not the case anymore..
every single kitten map is full of afkers who still haven’t learned that AFKing in GW2 gives NO rewards.. and yet they still do it every god kitten day..
people are still completely ignoraing Fingers and Hypnos mobs and focusing entirely on Champs that don’t even drop loot..

I can not strees enough how much I am sick and tired of explaining what to do only to have people just run around and do whatever they want then cry about how it always fails..

This HP upgrade was a very bad idea.. the Crit spot is utterly broken as well on EVERY!! boss that has one.. since it can only be hit by AoE and Melee.. so Range weapons are utterly useless on them massivly decreasing the possibly DPS that can be done.. and on top of that most bosses have AOE protecting that crit spot which makes Meleing them practically impossible.. or borderline suicide runs..

As far as Teq goes its more or less a guarantee that if you have 20ish people on the map that don’t know what they are doing or decide they will run around and just hit stuff or go AFK and let everyone else do the work its a guaranteed Failure..

Im not going to bother with Teq anymore personally since its far too much work for more often than not.. utter garbage rewards..
better off runing a dungeon path instead.. hell its faster and more rewarding and you don’t have to put up with people wasting your time and screwing your map over

Everything you have listed are PLAYER-side problems.

I think the Teq changes are an improvement. For the first time in a long while Teq is actually a challenge. Some people are already beating him. By the end of the week I believe it will happen more than half the time. By the end of July it will become routine again.

In the short term, the players unwilling or unable to adjust skills, tactics or thinking will be unable to beat him. They will fall away and leave the skilled to work out the winning strategy. The fair-weather Teq fighters will then slink back and reprogram their robotic actions with the new commands.

I like the changes. It gets so boring when killing things are just formulaic.

I like loot as much as anyone, but I also like to be challenged and feel like I earned the loot instead of just pressing my #1 key a lot.

I’m willing to fail for a while in order to figure out how to beat him again.

I quite like the changes. It stops people from just wandering in in and pew pewing with skill 1. Plus you can crit now which is a nice trade off. Everyone has to actually work as a functioning team, as it should be. I’ve done him a couple times now and we lost the first map Friday night due to my error in stacking for crit, but on the second run I did Sunday we beat him with about 2 min left on the clock – both as most late crew know are run as pug maps. So yes, it is still doable, people just have to put in the work now.

I also think the spike in challenge is a good thing with the ascended weapon stat changing, (they have value now and shouldn’t be easy to get) and this is coming form someone who has been doing Teq 7 days a week for 2 yrs and still hasn’t got a Teq hoard lol.

I think it’s really awesome how much coordination and organization it takes to beat Tequatl now. The problem is the loot isn’t in line with the time and effort it takes. I see no reason to do it personally, but I think that’s a shame because seeing the kind of mass organization that I normally only see in T1 WvW but in open world PvE is a cool and unique experience. I don’t think this should be changed, but the rewards should be increased.

have 2 wins 2 losses, not bad for the first week. As someone mentioned above it will not be long before it is back to 100%. People that do not participate and still want the rewards will move on to something that they can stand around. As for rewards, I think teq is amazing now for what it gives you.

Teq was already not rewarding enough when it was a faceroll event… Now its harder than TTW and even less rewarding for its reward. With that said I think simply fixing the crit spot so that he is actually crittable and not one little spot on him is crittable would fix a big chunk of the problem and make it not a problem at all.

Tried it last night; we ran out of time after the first burn on 2nd phase but it wasn’t a full map and not sure all defenses were full.

I was working N Hills defense and personally I had a fun time even if we didn’t win. Saw a lot of full dead players who didn’t WP, the usual stuff.

It’s clearly doable from what others said but you can’t halfass it. I think it should stay for another week as is and see what happens. I do feel it should be doable with a full map and even if your not luck enough to get into the super guild maps. At least 90% or more of the people doing Teq know what to do; no mechanics were changed. People just need to put in more effort.

The mechanics have changed a little. The poison stacks are now brutal, making the fingers more of a threat than ever. More attention needs to be paid to taking these down to allow the zerg to survive. The north turrets now need to cleanse the zerg, but even that is not enough to keep up. The crit box is reachable by most or all fingers, so critting Teq puts you in dire jeopardy if you don’t have a dedicated team burning down the fingers.

Just did teq.
Managed to get it to 25% with 5 secs remaining.
IMO the only problem with this are the hitboxes. Instead of making the regular hitboxes crittable, anet made a SUPER TINY spot in a VERY PROBLEMATIC location that can only be hit with CLEAVE and TARGETTABLE AOES, thus making most attacks do the regular damage prior to the double hp patch, and as a result making this much longer and most of the time making it unable to kill teq.

If anet have made the raguler hitboxes crittable(with double damage during burn phase), I assure you the double hp wouldn’t have been much of a problem.

Just hopped on a Sparkfly map 5 minutes before spawn time. 3-4 people gave good direction, and people made an effort to actually work together, and without too much effort we beat the event with more than 3 minutes to spare.

Look folks, all it takes is a will to step away from 1-1-1-1-1 and actually do the event “right”. Skeleton crews at turrets and range, and massive zerg at crit spot, drop cleanse on there, take down the fingers – the usual, only with a bit of focus. Oh and a few leaders who guide people. That’s all.

THE question Anet needs to ask is what function Teq serves for the GW community. It’s so that mid-level players can get together, do a little coordinating and have fun. It’s mid-range content, not just for elites but not for newbies either.

If a full, well-organized map can’t reliably win, then they have failed. The inevitable conclusion is that people will abandon Teq like they have Triple Trouble. Already people are quitting in 3 minutes into a Teq fight because they don’t think they’ll win. If this isn’t fixed asap, players won’t even bother.

My one crticism: eliminate the crit spot. If the Boss is critable then it should be from any location. The problem with a crit spot is it encourages stacking and afalse belief that 11111 should be sufficient (i.e. MK II before the patch). Stacking is great for buffs and rezzing but it should be a mobile stack where a decent Commander moves from one safe spot to the next and the zerglings moves with them. DD spots are just logical as it represents the sweet spot where one’s swing hits multiple locations on the Boss.

Word is getting around and decent Commanders already have the fight figured out. I did it last night with a PUG and it was more fun than I’ve had in a long time.

The REAL problems with the Teq fight break down as such;

  1. Learning curve – Defenses are REQUIRED. Read map chat if you’re unsure of the new mechanics. If the burn doesn’t move into the next Laser Defense phase it is not a fail. Defenses need to get back into position quickly and zerglings need to keep fighting rather than QQing in map chat.
  2. Gear – Soldier gear is no longer king, time to invest in Precision; drop Banners of Discipline and Lightning Hammers; retool Sigils and Runes.
  3. Loot – I’ll say again that Teq should have tokens. He’s been part of my regular World Bosss rotation for almost a year with no Hoard. That said, where else in the game can you stand around for 30 minutes, play for 15 more and walk away with 2G?

That is a ridiculous statement. The change itself was a knee-jerk reaction to condi damage being so powerful. I’ve heard of a handful of anecdotes of people claiming to have beaten it with more than 2 minutes on the clock. And I am willing to bet all of those maps were done with large guilds who all stacked on the melee crit cleave spot. Anet needs to do one or both of two things. Lower the HP pool slightly or fix the crit spot so that Teq can be crit no matter where you hit him. Until that happens Teq will never be a pug friendly fight again. And since doing challenging open world content is an oxymoron it defeats the whole point.

lmao, this casual vs hardcore.

You know that the average player, the casual player is the one that spend more money to get gems because they want to transform in gold to acquire that item fast or to buy stuff from the store. The hardcore players won’t spend much on gems or maybe nothing with real money, because they are so good to farm dungeons and fractals, that they can buy gems with the gold they earn in-game.

It’s the best WB in the game, but having it fail every single time since the patch makes me not want to bother setting aside the time every day to do it. Why do you want your best WB to be impossible? That seems like wasted effort. He simply has too many HPs for the allotted time. Either give us more time or scale back the HPs. Please do something. The guild I am in (about 25ppl online during teq) has killed the evening teq everytime since the update. and yes, we organize it with random ppl everytime.

to everyone who hasn’t succeded so far: join organized groups or communities and you will be better off, many have an open teamspeak during the event, we don’t expect ppl to join the guild, just follow the TS orders. there are MANY organizing groups like this, where you can participate without having to join the guild !

the updated tequatl is way better than all his previous iterations. never has a worldboss-kill felt this satisfying. it actually matters what YOU do. on every other worldboss, including the pre-update teq, it often doesn’t matter if YOU do the right thing. you could also write sms while pressing 1 and still get the kill + loot. i can’t understand the ppl saying they wan’t the old one because THEY were farming it regularly and feel entitled to the loot. just farm something else and let some players at least have fun content to them (farming dull content is not fun if you ask me).

big thumbs up to anet! i hope the announced HoT-“challenging group content” will be similiar to this.

I am a fairly new player (2 months) and I enjoy doing all the world bosses. However since this change, I have had 5 unsuccessful attempts and it is very disappointing. It will be interesting to see how this will be fixed. It really does need another adjustment in my opinion. I would say about 75% of all feedback that I have witnessed in map chat has been that the event now takes too long to fit correctly into the time given.

I would suggest either keeping the health buff and give a longer timer, or adjust the health to 50% additional instead of 2×.

Totally forgot about that. I’d stopped doing it for 2 years (or since that first re-work) because I didn’t want to spend SO MUCH time waiting only to fail. Did it for the first time on my mesmer 2 weeks ago and got a Teq mini out of it, so I was happy. I probably won’t do it again for another 2 years….

Wow…. all this sounds like when Teq first had its upgrade and no one could beat it for a while. Then players got used to what needed to be done when, and it started being beaten. I’m not a regular Teqqie (did I just coin a phrase?) but is it ALWAYS failing now, or are some able to beat it?

Edited to say I see Immortal.3647’s post above.

Don’t know HOW MANY TIMES this needs to be REPEATED. Every jerk who says “Everyone just got over it, it was easy” totally ignores the changes that were made to make it an enjoyable fight for everyone, not just elitist jerks.

Edit: I remember the threads, dozens of elitist kittens coming out to whinge that they were losing their exclusive content.

I wasn’t around at that time but would love to see the patch notes. there have been a few said these nerfs did not happen.

There was at least one hp reduction, and one so called “bugfix” where the megalaser started dealing damage to Teq upon firing (5% per shot, iirc, so 15% total). There was also at least one scaling adjustment that also helped. Not sure if either of those did make it to the patch notes, but they did happen.

Actions, not words.
Remember, remember, 15th of November

Goes against the adapt and adjust your tactics like we had to do after teqs last big buff’
So we been here before it seems, lets hope we get the same outcome.be a shame for the bulk of the player base to loose such a great piece of content.

Way over tuned….only beat teq once since patch after 7 different tries with 2 seconds left on the clock. All this effort for a lousy spoon, which btw is all I have ever gotten after 3 months of killin it daily. At this time, unless things change…there is no point to do teq imo. I guess it will become like TT which I have never ever seen killed, most people simply won’t bother since it’s a waste of time. I can understand making things more difficult but this is a bit excessive.
