The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome
Create your own dailies then and track them on a piece of paper. If you use the dailies from before the update, it’d be as if nothing has changed for you.
Or maybe find a game that does the game design for me, so I don’t have to and can just play, hmm?
That too if you absolutely need a game to have some system to track accomplishments specifically to your style of gameplay rather than feeling accomplished for what you accomplished and enjoying any enjoyment from said accomplishments.
Once again, you can still do the activities and get the rewards the exact same way as the old dailies, which means that even if you somehow did enjoy them only as a combination of factors rather than as the individual action or reward (which, again, is completely irrational) you can still combine those factors and achieve your same level of enjoyment which makes your entire complaint INVALID.
I’m understanding the issue quite well. People irrationally dislike change because stasis is familiar and things that are not familiar generate an irrational fear impulse (as a survival mechanic). In order to justify their irrational fear of change, people come up with ridiculous statements (such as “I enjoy only the specific combination of task and reward, and only when it is presented on the screen.”).
Don’t worry, after a few weeks the new system will become familiar and your irrational fear will subside (at least until the next patch causes change).
People are incredibly predictable, and you are no exception.
You win the thread with that one.
It seems that many of you folks are missing the point: We’re not angry about being “Forced” to do anything. The point all of us are kittened off over is that another part of the game we liked is gone. It’s not like this is the first time… NPE, Traits, Gem Exchange etc have all been rolled out with a “Like it or lump it” attitude. It’s only after we pound the table that there is the slightest acknowledgement from Anet that they may “not have considered all the impacts…”
Also, Yeah I get why many of you love the new “Do nothing and get rewards” aspect. There are always those who expect something for nothing… and now you have it.
Enjoy.
Wow, 11 pages and still no one from Anet commenting on this? What’s up with that? How is that better communication?
But mostly, I’d like to know where these weird changes come from? Is this type of treatment what we can expect for the future of the game? No expansions and poorly considered designs? Do you feel there might be a correlation between this handling of the Game and the steady fall off of players and revenue?
I do.
People interested in purchasing this game will look here in the forums and see not only displeasure with the games direction but how the horribly rude comments from the fanboi’s goes undealt with.
Change brings concern and questions, many unrealized yet.

PvE-only players: i hate this system

I do both PvE and sPvP and I hate this change because it completely changes the philosophy behind dailies. So try again?
old system: PvE-only players had plenty of common things to do
new system: PvE-only players only have forced stuff to do or ignore it completely.
i don’t think their philosophy is to make dailies something to ignore, it’s something you get while playing the game you’re already playing it.
i would not mind the small things like daily revive or daily condition applier/remover but to completely spreading dailies out like this and even force us to do a really small specific choice of dailies is just a idiotic idea, as if they had a brain dead day while deciding this but kept on developing this anyway.

+1 for that!!!!!!!
Personally I think the changes are an overall improvement but they are problematic as well.
I like that we have more options for doing the dailies and we get better rewards from them.
I don’t like that the PVE rewards are so specific. They changed from being filled through playing what/where I wanted to something I have to actually seek out. While there was an element of it before, now it’s just been pushed over the edge into grind territory.
If they made the dailies a little more generic such as: Gather anything in kryta or Gather logs anywhere, then I’d be satisfied with it.
The hoops we have to jump through to get the dailies done are too specific. They need to create more generic tasks for each category. That way people can play how they want and be rewarded for doing the things they enjoy doing.
I’ll never do PvP. Ever. WvW isn’t too bad but I don’t really see much of a difference between it and PvE.

Only rude comments I see are from the ones using terms such as white knight and fanboi as derogatory terms against those who feel the update was great.

Old System: PvE-Only players had to complete 5 common things to get rewards
New System: PvE-Only players have to complete nothing to get same rewards as the Old System
I argue it is not. I never asked for log in rewards. Rewards should come from killing mobs, beating bosses and opening chests. In other words play how you want and get properly rewarded.
So wait, you said “play how you want”, and then you cite “killing mobs, beating bosses, opening chests”.
Which of the two? Play how I want and still get the rewards, or do specific things which I may not want to do, like you listed?those are examples of how I like to play. You may wanna do different things than me.
What if I just want to PvP for an hour a day? Would my hour be rewarded less than yours? What if I only like doing fractals? Should I just not get daily rewards? It is very rare under the old system to complete even five dailies in a fractal run.
Why should the dailies be structured around what YOU want to do at the expense of others instead of quick and easy but requiring a tiny amount of additional effort from everyone?
Moot point. Fractals/dungeons already get their own reward. Frankly, they are rewarded much better than PVE already. (ascended) This is an ancillary part of the game so it’s an absurd request to make. But hey, ask for it if you want. I hope you get it. It won’t effect me one way or the other.
First of all, dungeons and fractals are pve content. They’re not wander around aimlessly content, but they are still pve. Second of all, they’re rewarded proportionately to the effort and skill required.
That aside, are you saying because there are already other rewards, people who prefer to only dungeon or fractal don’t deserve ap in the form of dailies?
You’re not comparing apples to apples. You wanna hang out all day in an instance and get the full reward? Again it’s a ridiculous request but Ask for it if you want it. (and good luck getting it)
Actually you could get a lot of the old catagories in a dungeon. Dodging, res, condition applier, condition remover and daily kills to name a few. Still, I think your comparison is a bit obtuse.
So you are just here to complain for the sake of complaining? You were already unsatisfied with the game before the update. The only thing you said you enjoyed was the tick of the daily in the old system…. not in the game itself…
The “tick of the daily in the old system” was part of the game, was it not?
In the same way the color purple and the letter G is part of the game?
One would think one plays a game because they enjoy and have interest in the activities it has to offer… not a check list that produces a sound and flash of light.
If all you played for was to check things off a generalized list while doing things you particularly don’t have a interest in or enjoy…. then yah the game is ruined for you.

That makes no sense at all. How can I do something that’s no longer present in the game? Make it up myself? Are you completely separated from reality? How about I don’t log in at all anymore and do it all in my head?
I’m understanding the issue quite well. People irrationally dislike change because stasis is familiar and things that are not familiar generate an irrational fear impulse (as a survival mechanic). In order to justify their irrational fear of change, people come up with ridiculous statements (such as “I enjoy only the specific combination of task and reward, and only when it is presented on the screen.”).
I enjoyed the challenge of tackling them as efficiently as I could. Your failure to appreciate the possible value of that to another person speaks volumes of you, and your armchair psychology ramblings have no bearing on me at all, they only add to those volumes. Such ugly, ugly volumes. Yuck.
Don’t worry, after a few weeks the new system will become familiar and your irrational fear will subside (at least until the next patch causes change).
There’s nothing to become familiar with. Simple, inane spelled-out tasks, hardly fitting to challenge even a 4 year old.
People are incredibly predictable, and you are no exception.
Wait, what? Oh, more patronizing drivel, how predictable.
And this is still roaring on . . .
Look, ANet, just rip all the dailies/monthlies out of the system entirely. It’s the only way to really handle this. Rather than having to redesign it . . . again . . . in four months due to the sort of outcry we’re seeing now. (It’s not going to go away, people are vested in keeping it going.)
What about Laurels, and Coins? Turn them to a Karma purchase with a 24 hour cooldown timer on them.
Sheesh, and I thought when the Zaishen Quests got introduced I heard bad whining about “daily chores”.
Create your own dailies then and track them on a piece of paper. If you use the dailies from before the update, it’d be as if nothing has changed for you.

I don’t need any of that. The sad truth is, it has been all that’s left for a while. What I need is a game that hasn’t been hollowed out to the point that I can only enjoy it through self imposed challenges.
No one enjoyed dailies. No one.
Seems you know more about all the players than anyone else, even those that didn’t mind the old dailies.
I had no problem with the old dailies and became part of an enjoyable experience while achieving other goals in an area of my choice when I wanted to.
Yep, leaving orr to escort a pack bull in Queensdale(and pay for the wp), then paying to WP to some obscure area to get a vista, then paying to wp to ……… some task far removed from what I was doing.
If it was gather xxx amount, visit a vista, do xxx event on whatever map you are currently on then I would have no problem with the new system.
Oh well this is likely not to have any impact on the powers that be to change the very restrictive dictated tasks to something else.
I argue it is not. I never asked for log in rewards. Rewards should come from killing mobs, beating bosses and opening chests. In other words play how you want and get properly rewarded.

It’s very rare to complete all five dailies in dungeons only. And getting 8, that never happened. It -almost always- involved having to trek to some content that I’m not particularly fond of to get the daily five. Was it some sort of huge burden? No, it was five minutes out of my time to go complete something for a reward I considered worth my efforts. The update hasn’t changed that, except to add more rewards while requiring less of my time.
No one enjoyed dailies. No one.
I did. You lose.
They either enjoyed the activity involved (killing enemies, harvesting plants, etc.) which they are still free to do, or they enjoyed the reward, which is now given to them simply for logging in.
Don’t care about the reward, don’t particularly cared about the activities involved with them. I killed enough monsters in this game. I enjoyed figuring out how to do them efficiently. Well, lately the answer to that was “spend 30 minutes in Silverwastes” so the fun had begun to fade before this update.
Nothing is stopping you from doing the old daily activities and absolutely nothing at all is stopping you from getting the old daily rewards.
Lack of interest in the specific activities is stopping me.
This means that your sudden lack of enjoyment is completely irrational.
The only irrational thing on display here is your utter failure to realize that not all people are like you, and some enjoy different things than you. You’re either severely lacking in empathy, or maybe you should get out more.

The daily reward is now granted upon login, so you, you can get the same. The kick is that now you don’t even have to kill the enemies, craft something, or revive people to get it. You have the option of going to all 4 corners of the game for the dailies for ADDITIONAL rewards now.

Once again, you can still do the activities and get the rewards the exact same way as the old dailies.
That is an absolute LIE. I cannot get the awards “EXACT SAME WAY”.
I have to go to a specific area to do a specific chore, before you could complete activities while you were playing in the area that you wanted.
Sorry, I guess I totally misunderstood this conversation where you state you have no interest in the activities and the rewards of the dailys and only enjoyed completing the daily efficiently.
If you think that attempting to do something as efficiently as one can is exactly the same as “check things off a generalized list”, yeah, I can see the confusion. Glad to set you straight.

You get the laurel just by logging in. From there you can do whatever you want to feel like you earned it. If you CHOOSE to do the dailies you get ADDITIONAL rewards.

The daily achievement chests are IN ADDITION TO the daily reward which is NOW given to you for logging in.
If you never do another daily again, you will still continue to get the old daily rewards because they are funneled into your account on login.
(1) How about we drop all the arguments about “forced” and similar distractions to the real issues. After all, “You don’t have to do them!” was also true about dailies before the changes. So, the question becomes, “Why are people upset about a change to a reward system that has always been optional?” We could avoid all the derails about this non-issue by assuming that when people post, “I’m forced…” you add in your head, “…if I want to complete the dailies.”
Rewards are designed to be gained. They’re incentives. They’re supposed to be desired in order to perform their function. If the tasks to perform to gain the rewards are unpalatable, people will either not do them and resent the developer or do them and resent the developer. So, ideally for both developer and players, the tasks should be palatable.
The tasks to gain daily rewards have changed. Whether this is now easier or not is irrelevant if the new tasks are not palatable whereas the old ones were. What I’m reading in these threads is that what’s unpalatable about the new iteration to people is that choice has been removed, that completing dailies is more constrained than it was before.
ANet developed a daily system that was originally just a reward for playing the game. It had a side effect of encouraging people to play regularly. That’s all it was. The at-launch dailies could be done almost anywhere in PvE (except for not enough kill variety in Orr). Originally, dailies were not a system to aim people at specific content.
More iterations of daily rewards followed. More choices were added. Now it was possible to complete the dailies most anywhere. Some of the choices were zone or region specific, but enough choices were available that it was very rare to have to go to a specific zone or region, or to do a dungeon or personal story chapter if one did not care to. So, still not a system to aim people at specific content unless they wanted to be a completionist.
The iteration of dailies in use up to this past Monday was much like the earlier ones with regard to where one needed to be to complete them. Achievements to highlight certain content were extras (e.g., the Halloween dailies). Yes, ANet is now using dailies to entice players to specific areas or events. Hasn’t really been that way before.
(2) One thing I’ll add to what I like about the new iteration is that people who only want to play sPvP can complete dailies in that mode and not have to go to PvE of WvW.
(3) Some people have been posting opinions to the effect that players need to “earn” the AP and/or new rewards. I find this interesting when the same people say that it took more effort to get the AP the old way. I find it doubly interesting that the “work for it” card is being played while those posters are also not protesting the log-in rewards.

You get the rewards for logging in. Then you can kill 30 ambients and make yourself feel good about doing things the old way for no reason despite the fact that the new way is vastly superior in every conceivable way.
Boom. Exact same way.
Some are meh, but the rewards for most aren’t bad. +1 anet, especially for fractals daily reward.
You know what would’ve helped this thread to stop growing and solved most of the problems?
- A 5AP, no extra rewards “Completionist” with 2 generic dailies.
- Everything else is extra and gives you the full 10 AP and extra loot.
Both worlds are happy, yay!

As opposed to the angry, rage-filled, bile-slinging comments from every negative nancy who can’t simply say,

No. It must always be…
‘I HATE THIS! And if you don’t agree with me, you are nothing but a putrid White Knight fanboi and I’m going to argue anything you say by repeating myself louder and with more vitriol every time you comment!!!1!1 YOU SUCK ANEEEEET!! GG FOR RUINING THE GAME!!!!’
/facepalm
Now that I got that out of my system…
Tried the new Daily system and it went like this…
-Logged in yesterday, and got a reward for just logging in-
Huh… Okay, cool.
-Look at the daily achievement panel-
Hmm… PvE,PvP and WvW… Well, not too terribly interested in sPvP…
Ah, darn, just missed Wurm… Well, what else can I do…
Oh hey… There are Dailies for Wintersday as well. Cool stuff…
-does other stuff for a while, getting two other achievements done in the process-
Oh, Jungle Wurm about to happen…
-WPs there, participates in the event, gets 10 APs-
Huh… Not so bad…
-goes on about her day-
-logs in today, gets another reward for just logging in-
Okay, cool. Whats the Daily lists for today?
Vista in Ascalon… Cut trees down in Kryta… Events in Silverwastes… and Fractals? Eh… Won’t be doing Fractals…
-WP to nearest Vista in Diessa. WP to Queensdale and head into Kessex… Do a couple of Events along the way. Head over to the Silverwastes and do what I usually do there… Ding, Dailies are done and 10 more APs-
Hey, got some Wintersday presents in those rewards… Wow, a surprising number of weapon skins… Cool.
-goes on about her day-
So, overall?
I dunno. Doesn’t seem to be a terrible, apocalyptic change to me like some are acting like it is here.
Get more rewards. Easier to get 10 AP a day. Daily rewards for logging in (that don’t reset if you miss a day… Thank god for that!) Options to do more then the 3 needed to complete if I so choose and get the rewards for such…
While I suppose it would be nice to give more options for Daily achievements, I’m not going to drone on and on about having lost anything because, in reality, I haven’t. In fact, comparing the new system with the old, I’m getting more with the new…
I’m fine with that.

so instead of about 10 dailies for PvE we have just 4 really specific dailies and you call that superior?
i think you’re missing the point on what superior actually entails.

If you never do another daily again, you will still continue to get the old daily rewards because they are funneled into your account on login.
Thanks for confirming it’s not exactly the same way.
You get the rewards for logging in. Then you can kill 30 ambients and make yourself feel good about doing things the old way for no reason despite the fact that the new way is vastly superior in every conceivable way.
Boom. Exact same way.
so instead of about 10 dailies for PvE we have just 4 really specific dailies and you call that superior?
i think you’re missing the point on what superior actually entails.
I’m going to suggest that you look at the slightly larger picture: If I want to spvp all day with the new system I can, with the old system I couldn’t (Assuming I felt obligated to fulfill dailies as some people do).
Now look at wvw depending on how you define/play wvw you could finish the dailies in wvw but only through pure PvE aspects (Ambient, Daily kills). Where as with the new system it actually encourages wvw players to defend, scout, and zerg.
Unfortunately the vocal portion of the population stems from PvE and you guys feel like the system is a kick in the teeth. Now, some of the achievements should be made a little more general: world bosses for one seems like a bad idea given the time schedule, but most of them are just as varied as the others. (Varied meaning that a vista in Ascalon and 10 logs in kryta are about as different as killing a sentry and taking a keep.)

I agree that more choices were added for sPvP players. Fully approve. There are now also two more WvW-related choices as well. For those who appreciate that, great change.
So, let’s assume that in the interest of being egalitarian to players who stick to one mode, they decided to balance the system at four options each. I can see that. The old dailies had eight options that were pure PvE. I’d have a hard time coming up with four more different things to use in sPvP that were about the same time-wise.
However, they didn’t have to change the PvE options from generic to more specific.

I have no objection to consolidating AP reward, but fewer options to get dailies is bad. I used to be able to just play for an hour or two and the daily would be completed without me having to go out of my way. IMO this is what dailies should be – a reward for getting on and playing as I normally would. Not a checklist where I have to run around doing stuff I normally wouldn’t to complete.
Fewer options is not better.

Lets see….I get the same rewards as before just for logging in. I get rewards I did not get before…nice ones at that for actually doing the dailies. So I may have to go to Ascalon to log instead of the Shiverpeaks….no biggie. Seems very win-win to me. Took me all of five minutes to do the three required today. I really dont understand the fuss over this. Seems much ado about nothing.

You know, it seems that way, until you realize there are a lot of other people who happen to feel very strongly the other way. Then it becomes much ado about something very important, instead of a Shakespeare comedy. Though in the end, I still have my giggles . . . so there’s that.
To those who still cling to their whiny ways, I’d like for you to think about something:
Think about the various groups of players, what they enjoy and so on. I’ll give you some examples: PvPers, WvWers, Puzzle Jumpers!, Sit-around-LA-and-chatters, Dungeon Runners, and of course, yourselves, casual wander-around-the-mappers. How did these various groups fair under the old system? How do they fair under the new system?
Once you’ve given that some thought, is the tiny (and yes, requiring a 5 minute investment of your time is TINY) possible rise in the effort required of you not worth the massive benefit towards the more marginalized groups?
I think you (and some white knights blindly defending this) miss the issue. People could come in in before and get their dailies done with very little effort by doing what they wanted to do. Now they are being forced into other maps and get forced to do things they otherwise wouldn’t. It was enjoyable before/ now it isn’t.
Which people?
AP Hunters? Nope.
PvPers? Nope.
WvWers? Nope.
Puzzle Jumpers? Nope.
La-Chatters? Nope.
Dungeon Runners? Nope.
There was only one group of people doing what you describe, the casual wander around the map aimlessly people. And for those people, it’s just a 5 minute or so increase on their time doing other things if they are unwilling to try new things. For all the other groups, they were already having to wander outside of their preferred zones, sometimes for several hours (In the case of AP hunters).
I am one of those “casual wander around the map aimlessly people.”
I mean what else is there to do once you’ve done it all? I have only 3 level 80’s, and to be honest that’s 2 more than I need.
I know, I’m a little weird. Still I will offer my opinion about this stuff.
It has never worked to force people to do something that they would rather not do. It actually comes across to me as sort of desperate.
I guess some just liked the way the system worked before. I just dont know. Me? I only do them for the laurels so this was a great patch for me. There must be 100 different ways for me to enjoy the game rather than dailies. However I do concede there must be those that simply liked gathering, reviving 10 people, killing 60 things and running a few events. Thats strange to me because all I ever did anyway was rush through them to do the things I really wanted to do. But maybe…just maybe a few folks really enjoyed those dailies.
So in this sea of discontent, please tally my vote as “two thumbs up” for the fine folks at Anet. They finally did something that I really like.
You get the same rewards as before for doing nothing. You get rewards you didnt get before for actually doing the dailies. If all we got was the same as before I might understand the outrage. But when they give you more reward above and beyond just logging in and people prefer the old way? Just does not make sense.
You got 1 laurel each day for completing the dailies. You got 10 for completing the monthly. Total of about 40 or so. Now you get 54 I believe for just logging in and NOT doing dailies. If you do the dailies, you get stuff you did not get before. Nice stuff. Explain to me what is not to like about that?

Not everyone does the daily for the laurel only.
There is a person who used it to gain experience for her low level alts. Now the Daily doesn’t given experience and a number of them aren’t doable in all zones.
Some used it as a list of goals to do today. Before they could choose to do their to do list anywhere. Now it’s set zones/regions and they aren’t always near each other.
How to tell if it’s “just the change” that you dislike or if it’s the actual system:
If this system had been in the game since day 1, would you still hate it?
Also, I’m pretty sure that if they had had this system in the game since day 1 and then went to the other one, there’d be just as many people whining that now they have to do more achievements to get the same amount of AP and less rewards. No, scratch that. I’m not “pretty” sure. I’m certain.
Well, in today’s daily frozen maw event, there might have been 200 players on my server trying to do the even at once. People waned each other to turn cameras away once the auto-attack started, and I did that but my computer still crashed, and looks like I wasn’t the only one.

I’m not so sure that this new system would have worked as well with the original game.
But I know what you mean.
All I can say is that this is the first time in a long time where I logged in and just… didn’t feel like playing. I looked at my daily list and saw nothing that interested me. Felt miffed that ANet is pushing the laurel on me just to sign in, complained a bit on chat, and then logged back out.
I haven’t been this unmotivated since my original guild drifted away to other games, and now I sorta feel like I’m about to go the same way.

Writ of Experience, a new daily reward is an accountbound consumable that you can give to an alt.

Is it really that much of a difficulty to use a waypoint or two? Seriously, people act like this is a huge chore or inconvenience.
Now it’s set zones/regions and they aren’t always near each other.
Which would be more of an issue if every zone in the game wasn’t really a couple mouse clicks away thanks to waypoints.

As an former WHO player, I feel your pain.
But if the idea is to funnel peeps into certain areas, so far so good.
