My take is that the old regional events daily is superior to the zone event daily. Why?

  • Event scaling and event design across the entire game seem to reach a maximum player density that the event can support. Take the defend event after the escort to the second beacon in the Melandru chain. Mobs run, invulnerable, to their attack point. Players pile AoE on the attack point. Mobs die almost as fast as their starter zone counterparts. Spreading daily event completionists across multiple zones in a region would cut down player density to some degree.
  • Players could choose to visit the level range in the region that their character level is closest to. I’d prefer to take an 80 to Frostgorge, Fireheart, Mount M. and Bloodtide over taking them to Queensdale, Wayfarer, etc.

Mega-servers should have solved the “nobody in a zone” issue. Why, then, attract so many players to one zone? What’s the point?

Mega-servers happened while I was taking a break from GW 2 so I cannot say anything regarding their exact purpose but as far as I understand it the megaserver should help get enough people to get the big events done (Arah chain, Orr Temple chains, World Bosses like Tequatl, etc.).

This here aims at a different target, though – it (I think it does) aims at the problem of more or less empty zones that do not have a world boss/champ chain which promises loot, precursor drops, etc.

So – getting more people together to do Balthazar, Lyssa, Melandru …. solution: Megaserver instead of 10 people on this server, 8 on that one, 12 on that …

Getting more people into, er, Snowden Drifts … dailies … and just those because you can get the materials from there from more efficient maps. Megsaserver won’t really help here with 0 on this server, 1 on that and … hey … 2 over there …

I am on what was/is a low pop server. My experiences before mega-server were that many events remained undone, unless I did them. I still saw a few people in the mid-zones. After mega-server, I sometimes run around the (previously) under-populated zones and see plenty of people, even with no dailies.

Maybe “more people” isn’t “enough people” to satisfy whatever arcane purpose ANet has in mind. If that purpose is, as has been speculated in this thread, to make the early leveling zones seem really full, then I guess it’s working in a given zone on any given day. If that’s the purpose, I have to wonder if it’s doing more harm than good. New players in other zones still won’t see the daily horde, and the game does nothing to tell new people how to get to zones other than their own. Then, regardless of whether the issue is scaling or down-leveling, I question whether the play experience in the event zones is intended. If ANet wants the events to be a joke, then they’ve succeeded.

I HATE the new daily system. Putting daily events in one area only is the asinine.

I just spent the the last hour in Kessex trying to do daily events. I have 2 done because the last 6 I raced to like a lunatic I couldnt get credit for because they were done in seconds or you cant get a hit because of the mob of 80s there hitting everything that spawns.

The only thing I do not like about it is the fact of attempting to push players in areas they do not want to play in. And the fact I have to jump over to my 80 just to do the daily since my 50 has not traveled or completed some of the areas for the daily. It takes time out on me working on my new pixels..And that is less XP I could be gaining on my new pixels..

Something hit me today. I was doing Maguma Vista and Maguma Lumberer. Going to a zone just to click on a vista or to look for trees is boring. I’m not talking run-of-the-mill quest in old MMO boring, I’m talking more boring than Kill Five Rats. More boring than Fedex Quests. More boring than in-game fishing. More boring than watching paint peel.

The dailies are dead easy and they are deadly boring.

I’m starting to do less and less. The previous dailies I would try to do 7 or 8. These, I did 3 today then left as fast as possible so I can start having fun. The PvE dailies have always been my “bread and butter” dailies, but now I see the event daily on one map and for the first time ever since starting this game, I don’t want to do them as I know they will be an exercise in frustration. They’re so frustrating/boring I would rather PvP or WvW, and I’m not a PvP/WvW person.

My choices, I can either do something really boring or do something mildly unpleasant or something that manages to combine the 2. Decisions, decisions.

What about rebuilding some of them around the dragons?

It annoyed me that we effectively abandoned our responsibilities as the second in command of the pact after Zhaitan falls. Setting up some of the dailies to act as continued efforts against the main villains of the game would be a good use for them.

So how about:

-Kill quota dailies against the minions of a specific dragon
-Event dailies in Or as clean up operations
-Resource gathering that delivered to Fort Trinity to aid the war effort/rebuild the pact
-Event dailies that involve fighting dragon minions over whole world zones instead of one area.

Most of the renown hearts are the kind of thing that would need to be dealt with on a regular basis.

-Reset a dozen or so renown hearts in any given world zone or across several zones on a daily basis so we can do them again.

I agree. I’m a casual player and I don’t have a lot of time to play. Logging in to do my dailies was a fun way to play in the short time I have. This new system with the events has made the process frustrating. I’m in PVE and yet I feel like I’m competing with other players just to get in hits to get credit for an event. Map chat has become hostile with people getting angry because events are not being called or the events are finished before everyone can get there. I think this goes against the kind of supportive environment and community that GW2 was trying to build. All they have to do to fix it is open it up to regions like Kryta, Ascalon, etc. I truly hope this will be addressed.

Why do you believe it would be better? I find the WvW dailies to be fine as is, and I’m curious as to your reason.

The goal seems to be to offer four options per game mode. Badges and WxP are just two. Also, both badges and WxP can be gotten more readily in EotM than in WvW. I don’t believe players need more reasons to prefer EotM.

From what I gather, the dailies could use an improvement such as generalizing the goals of each daily. Using the PVP dailies as an example, the profession-specific wins could be changed. Besides profession stacking, there’s a small inconvience for players who haven’t unlocked additional character slots. Thus, a cycle of creating and deleting takes place.

I do think the dailies are in a fine state as they are currently. As for the log-in rewards window, I wonder if there will be a way to open it? After accepting the reward for the day, the window closes until the next reset. It’d be nice to be able to check progression whenever we wanted.

I too hate the lack of choices. I liked being able to do as many or as little as I wanted and could do them wherever I wanted. I hate having to go to specific areas as most of my characters don’t have them available. Also, before, I could actually get the APs even if diddn’t get all 5 on one day I would still get the APs for the ones I did do. Now I don’t get any unless I do all of them, and with so few choices it is next to impossible. I like the new rewards for each one but I would still like the AP as well if nothing else.

I don’t mind the dailies. I didn’t let them drive my play previously when they were changed from generic to specific, I don’t let it drive my play now. If I don’t want to do it, I just don’t do it. That simple really. The individual rewards aren’t game breaking if I don’t, and 10AP…. meh, big whoop.

IMO, I think we just need more available options with a mix of generic and specific tasks. Might help to mollify both sides of the fence some.

An odd thing to notice:
When daily event shows up, it targets a specific zone. This is bad. Players need room to spread out so events aren’t as zerg’d.
When daily vista shows up, it targets a region. This is laughably easy, since players just go to the appropriate home city and ping the easiest one. (Guilty as charged.)

They really ought to flip the two.
Daily regional event.
Daily zone vista.

I go away for 4 weeks, come back to the new daily system..I have to say I h8 it..
I dont do fractals or WvW or PvP.. my choice..
no hope of ever completing it..
now more than ever is GW2 more un friendly to the casual gamer
oh well it was fun while it lasted, there are now other games that do much better in player reward system that just make u want to log on to complete them ,GW2 has again shot its self in the foot…

All that you get for completing the daily is 10 AP. All the other rewards are tied to the system for just logging on each day. If the AP is important to a player, they vsb complete the daily.

before the change: plenty of PvE choice with always some AP’s.
after the change: just 4 very specific PvE dailies with a high chance of forcing it to play your max character, 10 AP when you completed 3 dailies you might not even be able to complete.

and they wonder why we hate the change, i rather only have 3 AP’s with plenty of choice then no AP because i really can’t get the 2nd or 3rd done.

This is my opinion on the new system.
The Good:
Daily system takes a bit longer for newer players, this gives them more things to do; so they get stuck to the game more. Yet it lets veteran’s of the game finish it within an hour or so, depending on when events are going on.
The Bad:
The new system is clearly tailored to new players, with a small mix of veteran type of events. A good chunk of it is ‘map complete’ objectives, pvp and wvw type objectives; with the rare event or dungeon daily.
With the removal of monthly and the replacement of log-in rewards I feel the daily system was worsened. We use to get a laurel every time we got our daily done, now all we get is 10AP and some, usually mediocre reward. I personally feel boss event and pvp rewards are the only good and useful rewards from the daily, and those alone do not equal the old daily system’s reward.
I also feel the log-in reward, although nice, do not substitute the monthly-daily rewards. In the long run they out-reward daily and monthlies together, but that doesn’t mean they should have replaced them.

Okay, I’ve got to toss my two cents in here. I hate the new daily system. I’m a purely PvE player. I used to be able to get my daily just by playing how I wanted to play. I can’t do that anymore. Plus, there is no real reward for getting your daily accomplished. I have no desire to do my daily now. I seriously log in for the log in chest and then I go back to some other game instead. Also, I’m upset that the monthly achievement tree is gone too. This was a seriously bad idea Anet.

Sorry this is long! (two posts cuz apparently you’re not allowed to write a book in the forums)

This is actually the brief list of reasons why I don’t like the new system. The overall problem is that the dailies are so restrictive now that people can’t play the game how THEY think is fun and get it done. More open-ended daily achievements like daily leveler, daily personal story, or regional events/gathering (instead of zone-specific) would go a long way to fixing the problem(s).

I held off on posting, thinking I might “get used to it”. Nope:

1) Daily events, especially in noob zones, are over-crowded and can take forever. I spent something stupid like 1.5 hours in Metrica Province the other day trying to get dailyevents done. With the megaserver, there are so many fracking people shoved into one zone that by the time I knew the event was starting it was pretty much over (bonus hate: more lag). My strategy ended up being to just stand around kicking rocks and staring at my shoes in a place where I knew an event would EVENTUALLY start, then do just enough to get credit before ditching and looking for a new event that hadn’t started yet. Hooray for playing….?

2) It’s made it more difficult to do dailies with my friends and family. One example: I can no longer do dailies with my nephew, who doesn’t have any characters over lvl 40ish (he likes creating new characters; 11 year olds aren’t big on commitment). I’ve gotta go do Megadestroyer and forage in Malchor’s Leap if I want my 10 ap. Meanwhile, he can’t complete the daily AT ALL. I can’t even offer to help.

3) You don’t earn an AP for everything you do, you just get 10 at the end … so if you end up doing most of it (2 completely done, 3/4 events completed) but then have to go to work, you get ZERO POINTS. Not fun. Gimme a little credit for what I did do, even if I don’t earn laurels.

4) Getting a prize just for logging in feels cheap and lame. Next will we be getting experience and money for NOT logging on (I’m told WoW had that “resting experience”)? Laurels, by definition, are a “recognition of achievement.” Reward us as we go…. for, you know, actually DOING STUFF.

5) The “just for showing up” rewards are not awesome. Today I got three tomes of knowledge. …Yay?

As a side note: please stop putting everything in its own little bag (see #6)!!! Mellagan’s mercy, it’s unpleasant! Just make the laurels go directly into my “bank”. Just give me the ACTUAL tome of knowledge instead of making me click the bag open to reveal the tome we all knew was inside! It’s just annoying.

6) You can’t do events, gather, or otherwise gain experience on any character you want. When lvling a new character, I want to PLAY that character for the daily. Maybe she can’t go to Silverwastes, or even Sparkfly, for events. I have multiple lvl 80s, but only one has 100% map completion. I don’t want to have to log her on just because she’s the only one that can go gather in god-knows-where. Too restrictive.

(continued…)

7) Over all, it’s more cumbersome. This may be my BIGGEST issue with the new system. More pop-ups getting in my face, more clicking “ok”, more chests wiggling at me begging to be opened, more opening chests so they can give me bags so i can open bags so they can give me items so i can click on items so I get my laurels, experience, etc. More individual items, bottles, bags taking up inv space, waiting to be transferred to the character I would RATHER BE PLAYING. I’m tired of having to transfer dailies exp scrolls to the character I’m trying to level. Just make it so I can play any character I want and get it done.

I can only assume this is an experiment to test our “clicking on stuff” tolerance.

8) Daily world bosses. PLEASE NO. If I just got home from work and have an hour to play, I am absolutely kitten out of luck if Maw just finished and my only other option is a fractal run if I want to do the daily. The daily should not take 3 hours, and timing should not be everything.

9) Less choice for those who prefer PvE or playing solo. I feel like I’m being punished for enjoying one aspect of the game more (arguably, pve is the “main” aspect of the game). There was one day with TWO fractal options. Two? And then a 10 second vista. Speaking of…

10) Cheap thrills. Some of the daily achievements have always been a gimmie, like “daily crafter” where you’d just refine 10 of something. Painfully easy, barely worth doing, not worth rewarding me for. Now we have a “daily vista” in Queensdale along side a “daily fractal” or bunch of events in Orr (for example), and the huge difference between these kinds of tasks is… silly. One takes 30 min, the other takes less than 30 seconds…?

There are more but look how crazy long this is!

At this point, I don’t really care if I get my daily done which means I don’t really care if I play GW2. In case anyone is thinking “If you don’t like it, quit”: yeah, I already thought of that. It’s a good idea.

I’m sure it’s been discussed already, but I honestly don’t know what was wrong with the old system. Or, at the very least, I don’t know how this is supposed to be better.

Lol you honestly expect us to believe that your “so encumbered” by having to do 4 measely events every day but yet had no issue having to do 100 events each month. lulz if your only reason for logging in was to spend 5 mins doing daily….. you aren’t a extremly valuable player

@ Quae long story short condensed form your complaining to complain. In one part your complaining that the new system is too cumbersome and that the other system was easier becuase ithad easier choices but then you complain about some choices being too easy, this is then followed by choices being too hard like a fractal. Then complaints about rewards which are are same what we got from the last system. I can tell that you are extremely satisfied by this change ( no sarcasm)

Should have kept the old daily system but increased AP and other rewards if that’s what you were aiming for.

OK, after the first month of The New I’ve got to say I don’t… entirely… hate them. In fact, I love the “send you all over the known world” parts just to remember the wonderful Art and Music in the game. I’ve had a number of “Oh, wow! I remember this Map. It was so much fun!” moments.

Even tried a few new things.

After all the QQing I made over the change I smell a large serving of Crow headed my way.

No, in fact they removed that issue from the old system. The old system still sometimes impacted you in how you played, despite holding a required currency “hostage”.
Those rewards are moved to log-in rewards now (you can see how this was a compromise they had to do due to how laurels are required), hence you’re completely free to play however you want.

(This ties into your second point about “no real rewards”. The point exactly. You’re not supposed to feel like you have to do the new dailies, UNLIKE with the old ones.)

It’s been a bit of time since the new type of daily was introduced. With the old daily, I logged in, almost always completed the daily and while doing so often identified other things I wanted to do in game and spent time on the game several days a week. Now, sometimes I log in and get the free chest. Then I look to see what the daily is and decide I don’t want to do it as it looks quite boring now and really don’t spend enough time in game to be lured into playing.

I know people are debating is it good for the game or bad etc. I don’t know or care about that as I only play to enjoy a game. In my specific case, it has not encouraged me to spend time in game.

It’s a kitten conspiracy. Kittens gonna be kittens. All is vain!

I do agree that the old Dailies was better IMHO. It was fun to do and didn’t feel forced. I could do just about any PvE content and end up completing those Dailies, and I can do it on my alt. Now it’s not fun. The limited options forces me to have to use a maxed character when I’d rather do it on the alt I want to level. Of course completing one of the Dailies does award a Writ of Experience, but what about the exp gained WHILE doing the Dailies? Even minimal exp gained from killing something does contribute to the character’s overall exp, and Events offer higher exp which I want on an alt. Now do I have to force my low level character to go to Cursed Shore or Malchor’s Leap and try to do Events there?

Anyways, it’s either ANet gives more options for people or remove area restrictions, i.e. Daily Events Completer instead of Daily Cursed Shore Events Completer.

Opinions will differ on this. I personally think that the area-specific dailies are the best part of the new dailies, as it makes old and forgotten maps become alive for a day.

Now, the WvW dailies on the other hand, very badly needs more variation.

TL;DR: The new dailies are disappointing. On the whole, I complete four tasks MUCH less frequently than I used to.

I did dailies every day since they were introduced. I liked the laurel reward. Since the change, I’ve completed dailies perhaps five or six times.

  • I don’t wvw unless I absolutely have to for something like exploration, or if it’s something easy like capture one of those five pad thingies south of your home world’s central spawn point. Go there, capture one, relog. I can do that… when it’s offered…
  • I don’t pvp, ever. Ever. EVER. I’m not that good, and people are incredibly impolite. It’s not worth it.
  • I am not always online at a time when a specific world event happens.

So like a few other contributors here, I am now marginalized. I don’t get rewarded for dailies unless the rng() aligns just so.

If the objective of dailies was to encourage people to diversify, the current solution does that. For new players it will feel normal. For old players it will feel like negative reinforcement. I felt “compelled” to diversify, if I wanted the reward. However, even once I had done things outside of my normal play habits, it was often not enough to get four daily tasks done due to the other tasks that needed to be completed. The system demanded more, and I will not give more at the expense of an enjoyable gameplay experience.

In closing, I want to satisfy my full PVE daily, and I need four options each day that are not bound to a specific world boss spawn schedule.

TL;DR: New dailies are much more obtrusive to normal game-play than old one were and in general, take much more time. Together, the combination is very disappointing.
Rewards are much nicer though, but I would prefer less obtrusive dailies: preferably, the limitations removed (instead of “View vista in Kryta”, view any vistas; instead of “Kill Boss X”, kill any World Boss etc, with the necessary amount of tasks increased if needed, for balance (f.e. 2 vistas or bosses instead of one, 6 events, 20 nodes gathered).

My main problem with the new dailies is that I used to be able to complete a daily, no matter what I decided to do. Now, if I want to complete dailies, I am directed to a very specific area of the game.
Some tasks are worse than others: vistas or gathering are usually fast enough, but things like events or fractals – or worst, specific bosses – take a lot more time and detour from my preferred activities.
I especially dislike the specific world boss one needs to kill: sometimes, due time constraints, this achievement might not be possible.

Another problem I see is that some of the tasks might be impossible to complete for people who are new(er) to the game.

I have no problems with the new dailies. Perhaps, each of the individual dailies could be re-examined and adjusted a little bit. But, I would definitely say that the new system doesn’t lose to the old one.

I find the new system was meant to lessen the amount we have to do to earn the 10pts each day. I do recall we had around 12 dailies back then, each worth 1pt. I’m guessing Anet decided 10pts was a good rounded number. No complaints there.
