The economy is so far out of balance at this point that people are going to do a farm- any farm- that gives them some hope of a quick buck just to speed things up a little. It’s okay if there are a few skins and items like legendaries that take a few months to get together. It’s not okay if half or more of the worthwile items in the economy takes that long.

The game has an abundance of overpriced exclusive skins on the TP even if you disregard the gem shop. Unless and until that gets fixed, people will destroy normal play on the map of the month just to speed up their treadmill.

Welcome to GW2.

Home of the “player in game who sees people having fun, goes to the forum to whine and cry and complain and try to get said event/farm/whatever nerfed or taken out of the game.” How dare they have fun in my game I will make sure that something is done about this immediately!

This brief lowering of prices is a good thing, unless your wealth is invested in items or something.

Don’t worry, it wont be forever.

People still did them and made gold. It’ just that people have recently gravitated to broken farms that gave out twice the awards.

The only thing really ‘broken’ is that the majority of chests are at Amber. If they put more chests at the other locations people would spread out more. That’s essentially the biggest gripe I’m seeing here, is that in farming maps, everyone clusters at Amber instead of spreading across the map to defend all 4 points (and the escorts).

Nerfing the rewards into oblivion so no one gives a rats kitten about the map is not the way to fix it. Especially considering mobs don’t really drop loot (read: rarely, not never), and champs not at all. The chests balance that factor.

The thing I see broken is that you can easily replenish all the crests you used for keys from crests in chests and by doing a few events.

I don’t see anything wrong with that myself honestly, but that’s just my view on it.

It’s because you’re getting a ton of loot and not thinking about its impact.

People are happy, mat prices go down, maps are populated, lots of people playing the game.

Yep this farm is terrible! How will we say that the game is dying if the economy improves and people start playing again!?!?!

And you’re not considering the impact as well.

You mean the impact like the market being flooded with twister in a jar trinkets, silk prices going down because there are more of them being generated, t5 and t6 prices fluctuating because more are being pumped into the economy and it hasn’t had a chance to stabalize? You mean those types of things? All the same things that get impacted anytime something changes that brings some flux to supply?

Would you prefer prices of all items to fall to vendor prices? Would you prefer the TP to be removed entirely and everything purchasable from vendors for a specific price?

You mean…. like it was in GW1?

chuckle

Things will stabilize. It won’t be that drastic.

Yeah, they’ll stabilize when we reach the point where the farm isn’t worth it anymore.

People don’t really seem to be fully grasping just how unbalanced this farm is and how its effecting the economy.
Though I don’t think the farm will slack off ever without ArenaNet intervention. It is the best farm in the game… by a large margin.
I’m sure Anet is already working on a fix though, so I’m not freaking out, just enjoying what it is while I can.

The new patch is nerfing the chest farm:

“Bug Fix:

  • Fixed a bug in which Lost Bandit Chests near Amber Sandfall spawned too fast and too numerously."

I guess whoever was saying earlier that they’d talked to an ANet dev on-map who said the spawn rate of chests wasn’t working the way it was supposed to was telling the truth after all.

+1

2nd the motion to: spread out the chest rewards to be equal at each location and the problem is solved.

Thanks to all the QQ’ing about Amber farming, it’s been nerfed. If they had spread out the chests equally it would have been much better.
My crystal ball tells me that SW will become another DT, pretty much a ghost town. It was fun while it lasted. Altho for myself, I did all the events, even the pack bulls, defended, reclaiming forts, sometimes solo which was the most gratifying, and yet still farmed chests. It was kind of funny, some cmdr at Amber was apparently glad to be on a non-farming map, yet that same commander stood off to the side along with 4 or 5 other players, while another player and I re-took the fort back haha.

And then they’ll complain about loot in general.

People get what they sow. Just wait until it turns into a ghost town with enough nerfs and who will be to blame? I’ll just ask my friends to carry through me through dungeons for some easy gold. Doesn’t affect me anyways. :p

Don´t believe that “we fixed a bug”-lame-excuse, they simply didn´t think about whole maps cooperating on chest-digging.

bug is a different term for anet. Anything with undesired results is considered a bug.

My main problem with these type of things, is that most of the problems are not small/numbers correction based, they just built a lot of things in a way that causes this to happen again and again.

truth is, you ll never really get ahead in the long run, increased farming will eventually lead to lower prices for your goods. Increased gold earning leads to inflation. The key to success is riding the waves at the right time. Anyhow they changed it now, lets see how it works out.

The chests were spread equally. It’s just that the chest mechanics (shovels) encouraged having all the farmers in one spot, so everyone could benefit from every shovel used. And amber had a slightly better flat area nearby compared to other forts.

CoF 15 mins?! Or do you mean p1+p2? Because if it takes you 15 mins just for p1, then there might be a problem… Also SE 15 mins… for p3 maybe? P1 should be well under 10 mins as well, even with a mediocre pug group… CoE should also be ~15 mins per path, maybe 20 if the group is slow.

5 mins is ideal zerker group…we are talking bout normal pugs (who often dont know how to play) + occasional dc’s.

but telling me 33g from 5 dungeons only doing 1 path is just fantasy.

Where did you get this ideea of 33g for 5 dungeons only doing 1 path?! It was Miku Lawrence who advanced this amount, but it was for far more dungeon paths:

You run dungeons the wrong way, that is the issue.

Ac12 – 20m
CM123 – 20m
TA12 – 20m
Arah 123 – 40m
Se13 – 15m
Cof1 – 5m

Time spent – 2 hours 00 minutes

Reward – Raw 11,25 gold + 12 gold from salvage, loot + 9,80 gold from tokens… Total 33+ gold in 2 hours.

The times posted seem attainable to me, though I doubt in a pug group. Not sure on CM all paths taking only 20 mins, 25-30 seems a bit more reasonable to me, but I am confident there are guilds that can run it that fast. And therein lies the secret, join a decent guild and run with them. Pugs will always slow you down, though sometimes you win the LFG lottery and hit enough good players to carry the bad ones.

About the 33g amount – I am unsure about the gold from salvage since I always break the drops I get and keep the mats for myself, so I can’t say if it’s correct or not, but it seems reasonable.

They’ll nerf it, and people WILL work around it to get an efficient farm, and they’ll nerf it again, until it becomes “meh” and people leave the map. We’ve all seen this (cough cough Orr cough).

As I’ve said, it’s slowly happening. (Y’

Each CM path takes less than 5 minutes in a decent group. Its the shortest dungeon overall. If you do your 3 arah paths thats 7.65g + 3.15g from CM just from dailies and you are only an hour in. Total daily gold from all paths listed is 19.15g. But those times are pretty generous. You could easily fit AC p3 and cof p3 in to bring it up to 21.75g. Then include all the gold made from loot, mats and tokens. Easily over 33g.
