no, a skin is a skin. The wardrobe should allow the skin to work as many times on as many different weapons since it has a cost associated with using it. What if I don’t want to dual wield but just have two different stat swords that I switch between that I want the same skin on. The value of the skins will always be there since most of them are limited time only. So if you are that worried about making money off them then just hold on to them.

Edit: Also in the case of legendaries the stats and the ability to change the stats will help them hold their values. The cost associated with ascended weapons make it not so feasible to make multiples to gear out for multiple builds on a character. So I don’t see them dropping that much in price.

I am not worried about making money, but rather how it devalues the creation of a second weapon. I happen to have two bolts and I would gladly have my 3k gold back and make several ascended swords than keep the second legendary. Legendaries can swap stats, but are still limited by sigils. Not to mention the skin itself has a value that cannot be ignored. If you could craft a generic dull sword skin legendary for half the cost then you might change my opinion. I am willing to bet most players will never use all those stats anyway and will rarely go beyond 2-3 different stat combos. The value you believe legendaries have is actually quite limited by builds and sigils. The true value is the unique skin and this should be preserved.

Maybe if sigils could be saved and changed at will you’d have a better argument, but the skin still is the major value of the legendary regardless of being able to swap stats or not.

Your offhand legendary will have the legendary stat-switching ability, the skin won’t.

You can’t say that having the ability to to change stats makes it worth making two. If this was in from the beginning people would have just made one and made BiS swords of different stats to add the skins onto, not to mention being able to have multiple sigils. When legendaries have access to every sigil on demand then we can re-evaluate, but the skin still has a value and afterwards it should have more value than just a stat swapping system that is useless for serious play due to sigils. Personally I don’t like to pay 3g to swap my legendary’s sigil every time I want to change from WvW to PvE.

I have very little doubt that every person who made two of the same legendary wouldn’t have with the upcoming system in place. That alone should be enough to say that it is wrong to suddenly take hundreds or thousands of gold that they spent so they could be unique.

Unless owners of two of the same skin are properly compensated, they need to have a system in place like I described in my post here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Wardrobe-1-Hand-Weapons-Retaining-Value/first#post3809981

HATE THE WEAPON WARDROBE.

I don’t think ArenaNet understand the value of a legendary, how much hard work and effort goes into making one. There are items like Infinite Light, Volcanus, Mjölnir, Foefire Essence that always take a lot of effort.

Now my Thief and Necromancer can run around with dual incinerators and all I did was use a transmutation stone.

ArenaNet please reconsider some weapons (and backpieces) to not appear on the list to be transmutated.

Edit

Regarding weapons, they won’t necessarily be useless, as you’ll still have the stats on both, but yes, in-terms of the look, it was a “waste” of gold(which sucks).

As to gem store items: it’s unclear how ANet is going to handle those. Personally, I’ve bought multiple sets/items and would like some info on how they are going to handle them, as well as previous LS items/transmuted LS or gem store items.

Your offhand legendary will have the legendary stat-switching ability, the skin won’t.

The skin itself is primarily what we are paying for, you can’t say the same thing for an item like infinite light either. 800 extra gold for what? an exotic? Your argument fails to hold up for other items and I think you are simply using the stat swapping system as a justification to make obtaining the same thing other players spent a lot of time on for a fraction of the cost.

Would you make two legendaries with the new system in place just for the stat swapping or would your rather pay a fraction of that cost for a handful of ascended weapons, the same legendary skin, and sigils that fit the build you intended to play with that weapon?

So do you unlock a skin forever by having it soulbound/account bound in some way or do you unlock everything that as soon as they arrive in your inventory? Aka things that are sellable.

I’m pretty sure they mentioned unifying rewards across sPvP and PvE. That’s why they stopped giving out glory. That’s why I asked this question. The sPvP skin locker is now an “archaic” model compared to the PvE skin wardrobe. I don’t imagine it sticking around. Especially since some people have bought gem store skins and converted them to sPvP skins.

I’d love an official response, or at least some citation.

I have crafted two Infinite Lights.

This is an unnecessary request based only on preserving your special-snowflake feeling.

Yeah, we wasted our money; I understood the potential situation I was getting myself into. But it doesn’t undo the fun I had with them in the meantime.

Legendaries are where I feel someone might be recompensed or offered an exchange, but high-end exotics are nothing special.

I can agree that in order to keep the system simple that compensation could also work. Give us our mats back or let us pick a new legendary to replace it or something. The 2-3k gold for legendaries is not worth stat swapping AT ALL if you already have the skin.

One of the annoying things I’ve found with the PvP skin locker is that it’s hard to find the skin you’re looking for if you want to equip say a bunch of weapon skins from one set. Please allow us to sort the skins by their set name (e.g., all Forge/Ghastly weapons next to each other) or simply alphabetized them in their categorizes. This would make navigating the wardrobe much easier!

Thank you!

yep. at the cost of one transmutation crystal per piece of equipment recreation.

Wow now that is awesome! I purchased weapon skins from the TP and never used them because I wasn’t sure on what character to put them on, this is great .

I agree that the best solution is to just make legendary weapons exempt from this system. I don’t own a legendary myself, so I’m not saying this for personal reasons. Actually, it’s not even because of this problem of people with dual legendaries, but in general being able to use your legendary skin on all your characters will make it less special. So yeah, just keep legendary weapons out of the wardrobe, and make them account-bound instead of soulbound, that way people can still put them on a character that they think looks better with it.

I don’t think, however, that double legendary owners should be “payed back”, if this system is implemented. Other changes in the past have also negated lots of time and effort of some players without compensating for it.

In general I’m happy with the changes they’re gonna make, though.

All this stuff is really cool but a little annoying in some regards, and some clarification would be fantastic as well. I know some people posting here get off being negative and like playing bad customer service, but some of these points brought up are pretty legitimate. I for one have spent thousands of gems in this game since release in support of a game that to me is the best out there and I am worried like many others what will happen to the numerous skins Ive skinned over tons of times to change my look because well, I could. I don’t mind losing out on the dyes, or the hundreds and hundreds of stones Ive spent, but I do mind if because I skinned over something I no longer have the ability to unlock that item that I once had. Sure I liked something better, but having to buy another 800 gem skin or something for one piece seems a bit outrageous. Like I mentioned above, some clarification would be great, because as much as I like speculation, specific answers are needed in this thread.

I have a specific question I’ve seen asked a couple times but not answered, so… I figure making a thread would be the best way for the question to be seen

Will the account wardrobe allow us to mix weight classes as far as skins go? I’m NOT asking for classes to be able to EQUIP a different weight class, just use the skin of a different weight class on their current stats-armor.

If not, WHY NOT?

I’m very confused now about this wardrobe function that was introduced, somewhere I’ve read:

Some basic clothing items that are no longer available for purchase will be converted into endless tonics.

and:

Yes outfits are all or nothing. Yes wearable in combat. There will be no non-combat equipment anymore, unless you count tonics.

I understand, that there will be still these “outfits”, but.. what will be these tonics and what not? Will I still be able to mix my town cloth “skins” for the looks? I’m seriously confused and pretty worried at the moment about this.

Someone please, clarify these for me.

For those thinking that removing the soul-bound aspect of your second legendary would fix things, consider the legendaries on the TP now. There are 13 incinerators currently posted and what I consider to be 5 serious offers (at 1900g +). This style compensation would result in hundreds of extra incinerators doing little else but entering the market. Value on bolt, incinerator and to a lesser extent quip would most likely plummet, for a good length of time, as demand for TP-purchased legendaries doesn’t swallow up market changes like flowing demand would for, say, the dye explosion we all saw occur this morning.

TL;DR – making the second legendary sellable will destroy these weapons’ markets and not net you the gold you’re thinking you’d get with such a fix.

I don’t know where the post is (ankitten ot looking for it because it was so long ago), but a dev commented that they wanted the different weight classes to have different looks to keep some uniqueness to them. And probably part of that goes with what nGumball said. PvP reasons.

As someone who actually will encounter this problem (2 Incinerators, 1 Sunrise), I am disappointed with the change.

I would never have gone for a second Incinerator if I knew this would have been coming, as it is, I am 1500-2000G down and all I get for the benefit of my 2nd Incinerator is a stat change.

The important thing to mention about the stat change is that it is pretty pointless. Most people who speak in positive tones about this particular feature doubtless don’t own a legendary or they would quickly find out how little a feature it is used. Since my first incinerator, I have never changed the stats on it once outside of lvl 49 Dredge Fractal. The same holds true for my second. Sure it is nice to change stats, but the point is that statistically and in casual game terms, it really doesn’t matter.

I think the wardrobe and dye changes are very positive, but as a dual Incinerator user, I will be severely disappointed if the wardrobe allows people with 1 to spread it around their account.

My proposed solution would be to allow people to transmute the number of legendaries they have that exact number of times. So if you have 2 Incins you can have 2 on ANY class, or 1 on 2 but if you have 1 Incin or Sunrise or anything else, you can only have 1 of them on ANY class.

Maybe that stuff would be disabled in PvP? Maybe toggle-able like how you can turn team/server colors on and off? (you can turn that off, right? I’m not just remembering wrong?)

Do people really use armor to tell that kind of stuff anyway, as opposed to watching what weapon the player has or what abilities they’re using?… There’s such a wide variety of armor I don’t know how you’d tell the difference at a glance like that, except maybe heavy vs. NOT heavy, heavy armor is much more distinct than medium and light

Here’s a reason I haven’t seen brought up yet, the cost will be the same across the board independent of level.

Till now I’d happily use Transmutation Stones while leveling without restrain because they were easy to obtain.

With the new system you’ll be “paying” just as much regardless of level.

Do you guys thing under level 79 transmutation should cost a charge?

I’m looking at it from the other end.
Why should I pay in a different currency just to get my final look at 80?

With this system it’s all the same price. I don’t feel like I’ve been dragged to an abrupt halt at 79 because I now need to farm gold for gems or farm keys for Black Lion Chests or whatnot to get crystals.

As long as they leave getting stones for clearing a city alone I’ll be able to change a character around as much as I like.
I could be wrong, they could mess with the city rewards again. But I’m hoping they won’t, not only does it give a way to farm the stones (at a charge per city, so you have to clear all 6 to change a full outfit) just like we can farm the human personal story for BLC keys but clearing a city is an easy experience for a brand new player and gives them an opportunity to try the new system.

They explained this shortly after the game launched. You could go digging around in the forums to find it if you want the citation.

Basically, the “seams” don’t line up right between the different armor classes. If you were to mix and match pieces, many of them would break each other. (Example: In medium armor, legs are strictly pants only, and “skirts” are a part of the torso armor (trench coats). In light armor, the leg piece can contain a skirt, but the torso can not.)

So they will never let you mix armor classes, because they were not designed to be “mixable.”

This is a splendid, and welcome change!

…Though, I have to confess, it would have been nice if they had made it so the armor slot bore the preferred appearance. Would have made it easier on newbies like myself, leveling characters, who are constantly upgrading their armor.

Also, the transmutation system really hits hard for people who like to frequently change the look of their armor. ..It discourages a routine, or simple RP, change of attire. I would LOVE to see a “transmutation generator” (or some such) in the gem store. …Basically an unlimited transmutation charge that lasts for 30 days from the first initial use. I think such a thing would well worth ten bucks in gems.

Greetings,

As it has been said, the town clothings, or “costumes” will see their functionality reduced to a simple tonic, so they can be used in combat.

A legitimate feature, I can agree about that, since many asked for that.

However, noone asked to get the customisation of said clothes to be reduced, and by a huge margin.

No more dyes, and no more mix and match, only “one and only” set.

I can understand that it was mainly a RP feature (mainly, not only), but it was a FUN feature. One exemple could be the story of that huge Norn with a winterday outfit, a christmas hat, a big white beard, that was distributing gifts in Lion’s Arch.

It’s fun, and offers appreciable moments to the community.

I already know that some people will consider that complaint to not be acceptable, but those sets were actually from the GEM STORE, and as such, many players used real money to buy them.

I personally know many RPers that constantly paid to get new outfits and clothes for their characters, or to get new character slot, and also to change the appearance of their characters.

RPers also bring some money to you, Anet, and you are just forgetting them with that update, and it’s not acceptable.

And no, I don’t want to get a refund, I want to keep my outfits as they have been from the day I buyed them, dyeable, and mixable.

So, let us keep that option, while also offering the tonics for the ones that want it.

Simple.

Hoping that this request will be considered.

A Charr just wanting to stay classy.

Many people have actually got the information wrong.

1. You can still use the skins without transmutation charges like you used to do before. Meaning, that the skins won’t be added to the wardrobe directly when you find them forcing you to pay for the first try.
2. The difference between the old system and the new is more possiblities and literally easier UI’s. On the other hand, account bound skins alongside the fact that you don’t have to destory the old skin to get a new one, you will basically always have it saved.

Meaning, that all the complaints about ‘’new system restrict us’’ are pure misunderstandings. Also, stop complaining, opening threads about Transmutation charges, we have no info regarding how to obtain these, starting drama is just useless.
