What's Missing from Material Storage?
Something that would (temporarily) reduce the demand for more bank storage would be more inventory bag capacity. Perhaps Legendary 50-slot (or 100-slot !) bags that could be obtained via collection achievements (Like the Uncanny Jar from Uncanny Canner).
But answering the initial question:
Blade Shards
Blood Rubies
Petrified Wood
WvW Blueprints (although the Permanent Portable Provisioner in a Shared Slot obviates the need to buy more blueprints ahead of time, level chests drop enough of the blueprints that I have partial stacks of most of them — instead of bank storage, add a way to stuff these individual blueprints back into the PPP and get credited for 3/4 of their cost.

Shimmering Crystals
Tenebrous Crystals
Unidentified Fossilized Insects (and make the trade with the merchant reflect the rarity of these items — 3 Sandy bags of Gear is quite low for the time it takes to get one of these! 10 might be more appropriate.)
Gifts of Exploration
Pact Victory Token
Unidentified Dyes
Scribe Items, including:
75 Milling Basins
Crystalline Bottles
Bags of Shimmering Energy
—and probably many others… I am just starting scribing and the various components required already fill most of a bank slot.
Let us know that the following kinds of stuff will never be needed or allow it be sold to a merchant or add bag space for the incredible packrats among us:
Watchwork Code Fragments
Scarlet’s Lockbox Code Fragments
Molten Code Fragments
Aetherblade Code Fragments
Toxic Code Fragments
Found Belongings
Found Heirlooms
Ellen Kiel Representation Buttons
Captain’s Council Commendations
Why not round up all items with text starting with “used in” and make them a home in the crafting storage. This will encompass things used distinctly for profession crafting and mystic forge crafting. Does make any sense to add things that are not used for crafting in the ‘crafting’ storage. And to relieve those with space issues, aka ‘all of us’, why not add a new purchasable bank slot which allow only storage of consumables, anything starting with the text “double-click”. Though it would be nice, you wouldn’t need to make a special slot for every consumable in existence, but merely disallow transfer of any item without the text “double-click”. I’ve just looked at my mesmer’s inventory and 31 of the 82 items in my inventory are consumables. Given the sheer amount of consumables we all have littering our bags and banks slots, I’m certain a large percentage of players would be more than willing to pay 1000 -1500 gems for 50 slots of consumable bank slot space. I must add that I can’t thank the you and your development team enough for handling game additions like you do. You so often ask the players what they want, and this is why ArenaNet had the greatest community engagement around. Hats Off
Hello Linsey and Guild Wars 2 community.
On this matter there are a few things to be considered. Quantity of an item per storage space and overall quantity typically used in crafting or forging. That being said the number of legendary gifts that would need to be added to material storage is too vast to include things like dungeon gifts used in making legendaries or other crafted items (vials of liquid flame, etc) associated with making some of the original legendaries. There are a good number of candidates and many of those have been listed.
As Linsey has already stated in posts prior to this, blade shards are almost certainly guaranteed. This is due to the mass quantity existing in game. I see another work around for blade shards involving a breakdown recipe in the mystic forge as a recipe already exists in the forge to convert watchwork sprockets into blade shards. I see no reason there couldn’t be a recipe to do the opposite as mist essence is a precedent for such. Even with this taken into consideration blade shards are still a great candidate.
Now for the list of good potential items to add to material storage.
- Doubloons (Copper, Silver, Gold, Platinum as they are used in a decent number of crafting and mystic forge recipes.)
- Tributes of Endeavor (We have the crafted items beyond this in the material storage but not the tributes. Could be argued you shouldn’t buy them unless you intend to immediately craft them into Shards of Endeavor.)
- Guild crafting crystals (Tenebrous and Shimmering)
- Vision Crystals and Lesser Vision Crystals (Those who do fractals daily have a huge stockpile of these items from drops over a long period of time.)
- Amalgamated Gemstones (Used in multiple crafting and mystic forge recipes.)
- Petrified Wood and Blood Rubies (While these are a currency they are also salvageable items to generate unbound magic another form of currency already existing in the wallet. There is however a precedent for a currency in material storage namely crystalline ore.)
- Legendary Insights (For those that do raids often they have amassed over 250.)
Lets be honest about these next two, they aren’t a material in crafting or the mystic forge, but would be good candidates to add to the wallet since they are strictly a form of currency.
- Chak Eggs and Reclaimed Metal Plates
As for items like crystalline bottles, milling basins and other scribing materials, better planning on the number needed for what you are crafting can solve your inventory storage. With the implementation of buying multiple single items to vendors instead of buying groups of 10, you should be using this feature. So if you only need 8 crystalline bottles only buy 8. Additionally items such as the lumber cores can be stored in guild storage for crafting scribing items.
I think that about covers my thoughts on items to be added to material storage. I welcome any feedback people might have.

Mystic Forge Stones
Agony infusions
Amalgamated Gemstones
Petrified Woods

Something that would (temporarily) reduce the demand for more bank storage would be more inventory bag capacity. Perhaps Legendary 50-slot (or 100-slot !) bags that could be obtained via collection achievements (Like the Uncanny Jar from Uncanny Canner).
Jumping from 20 slots to 50 is a huge kittening leap in bag size. If we were to get any bigger bag sizes then it should continue the trend of going up by 2 spaces per bag at a time. Perhaps up to a maximum of 25 (rounded up) or 30 slots per bag.
Please let us put insignias and inscriptions in the mat storage. I know you cant do every crafting component, but seriously these two are annoying to not have in mat storage. :)

Most scribing items, they r killing my bank
Damask Patch <—— OMG and all the other patches!
Also and off topic could we have more shared inv. slots plz, so many items to carry between all char.
Should there not be some sort of general rule applying to material storage?
Any item used by a crafting professsion gets to enter the material storage.
Items used only by the mystic forge do not get to be in the material storage.
Then you got items like blood rubies and petrified wood, imo items like these should enter the storage as well since they are currencys but can’t go into the wallet due to their salvageable nature.
Please let us put insignias and inscriptions in the mat storage. I know you cant do every crafting component, but seriously these two are annoying to not have in mat storage.

Cooking has a lot of ingredients you craft that are then used in other recipes.
Some examples:
Ball of dough
Bowl of candy corn glaze
Bowl of ice cream base
Bowl of poultry stock
Bowl of meat stock
Buttermilk biscuit
Cinnamon apple
Loaf of bread
Bottle of simple dressingAnd a bunch more.
I’d also like to emphasize the various types of vision crystals. It’s never made sense that something mainly used to craft ascended equipment was never in the material storage.
For some reason, the song Material Girl by Madonna popped into my head. xD
So much this. Trying to level a cook without just power-leveling the same five recipes is an exercise in frustration and will end with zero free inventory in no time.

Now if you want ppl save space, make the final reward of pvp/wvw track stackable (glorious armor box, …)
Legendary gifts would be nice but I suppose those are components so what currencies like Sab baubles .
To be honest additional weapon slots right now we have two we can swap between in battle however the original gw2 had multiples. So why not add additional weapon slots for preparation as I carry ascended/exotic weapons I don’t use in my inventory to be swapped in when I change my build or enter a new mode. It would decrease space for many and add in extra utility.
Individual slots for eaters and cash shop items so mawdrey 2 princess and so forth in addition to cash shop bought items like aviator goggles would get a side slot. Using Warcraft as an example they would go under a toy tab of sorts
All boosters like Karma, XP, Birthday, Heroic Bosster…
These are kittening boosters. Have nothing to do with crafting
Blood Rubies and Petrified Wood
Currency. Again absolutely nothing to do with crafting

This is getting ridiculous at this point. Seriously people. Just because it takes up space in your inventory does not mean it is a crafting material. It does not mean it belongs in mat storage.
I agree about blade shards, chak eggs, mysitic forge stones, etc. I also suggest resonating slivers.
I undertsand why you don’t want to put crafted things in. Would it be hard to at least make more things stackable in the bank, like the various salvage kits, harvesting tools, etc.?
Every month I end up getting quite a few BL salvage kits. It’s great to get them for free, but it would be even better if they stacked.
It would be extremely hard, if not impossible to make those things stack.
Kind of off topic I guess but how about a new item that a vendor sells… a 250 stack of BL salvage kits that costs 10 regular BL kits + 1 gold or something like that? Would be a nice QoL addition.

Others I can kind of live with but these certainly should go in storage asap.
I ain’t not da brighest bulb in da deck. Why not add material storage to guild banks for items commonly used in guild crafting. Seems plausible. Put reasonable limits, considering it’s a guild bank. 2000 to 5000?? ?????????????

While many of my suggestions had already been said over and over again by other people, these are the things I can think of that may not have been said yet or should really be considered as well.
Crafting Mats:
Lumber Cores
Metal Cores
Doubloons
Boxes o’Fun
Trophies: (While not crafting parts, would be nice)
Festive Transoms
Pristine Feathers
Unidentified Fossilized Insects
Golden Fractal Relics
Philosopher’s Stone
Mystic Crystal
Ley-Line Infused Tool
Baubles and Bauble Bubbles
And while this last suggestion sounds crazy and is nether a trophy or crafting mat so far, some people really (like me) would really like it.
Unlimited Slots used to store Types of Luck
Many people who have maxed their luck have probably have been saving like me in the hopes to have a use for it later (which was given to us in a limited form during Dragon Festival GH Lanterns) but I have 2 characters with inventories maxed on luck. If you can make a slot to store this that has no limit, that would really be awesome. Or if nothing else, give us some other practical use for it. We have been earning it but cant do anything with it. Even maybe make a recipie that allows us to compact 5 Exotic versions into 2 Legendary versions. That will at least ease our inventory space more. Thanks
I’m sure it’s been mentioned a lot of times (don’t have the time to read 10 pages), but:
- Holiday treats bags (Wintersday and Halloween)
- Similarly: Boxes of dusty winter clothes, Ugly Wool sweaters, Ugly wool hats and that socks thing
- I still got tons of frostbitten toolboxes (useful for my new toons)
- Baubles (and maybe Bauble Bubbles, though I’m not sure I’d ever get 250 of them)
- Doubloons
- Vision crystals
- Black lion chest stuff would be appreciated (boosts, trading post express, bank access express, merchant express, repair kits, teleport to a friend)
- Icy Runestones
- Mystic clovers
- Unidentified dyes
- Zephyrite lockpicks and Bandit skeleton keys
- Mystic Forge stones
- Black lion kits and keys (I open a bunch at a time)
- Food that serves as a crafting material (though I think that’s unlikely)
What would be the harm to adding storage slots to the BLTP? Say 400 gems each and they would store up to your account limit (250-2000) of ANY material. This way Anet makes coin from it and players can hoard based on their interests.
~Dr. Seuss
Large guilds don’t need, but this would help small guilds.
I ain’t not da brighest bulb in da deck. Why not add material storage to guild banks for items commonly used in guild crafting. Seems plausible. Put reasonable limits, considering it’s a guild bank. 2000 to 5000?? ?????????????
This would help small guilds alot. Large guilds maybe not, as people tend not to store overages in g. bank. Guild mays are hard to sort & find.
Sorry, played since GW1, but have never posted in forums.
So checked my bank, list follows (Criteria being stuff that gets accumulated quickly without direct player intent and/or is used in quantity):
- Mystic Forge Stones and maybe other MF staples like Elonian Wine, Philosopher’s Stones and Mystic Crystals, reasoning for this is that Mystic Coins have similar use to those and have a slot;
- Tomes of Knowledge and Writs of Experience would be handy, but not holding my breath;
- Doubloons (similar use to Gem shards, crystals, orbs, etc.)
- Tattered Bat wings (Says crafting material right there and isn’t crafted by players)
- Lumber Cores
- Blade Shards
- Shimmering and Tenebrous Crystals
- Amalgamated Gemstone
- Non-Crafted (and well if going there all of them) Inscriptions and Insignias
- Milling Basins
- Boxes o’ Fun (apparently they’re a material now, says there in the box, own it)
- Ascalonian Blueprints, Pristine Feathers and other similar decoration materials that drop from enemies;
- +1 Agony Infusions? Maybe? puppy eyes
- Strategic Defense Maps of the Mists;
- Legendary Gifts (the ones obtained from exploring at least) and Insights
- Mini Queen Jennah
Also maybe:
- a new tab could be opened in the storage for Stuff like Blood Rubies, Petrified Wood (currencies that can be salvaged, so can’t really go into the wallet) OR make it like you did with pristine Fractal Relics and add a option to buy Unbound Magic with 1 and then add them to the Wallet.
- Reclaimed Metal Plates and Chak eggs could be transferred to the wallet
- Baubles, Continue Coins, Festival Tokens, Custom Arena Time Tokens, Black Lion Tickets and Scraps could also either get a Wallet Slot or a Storage one.
- Aether Key pieces and Essences of Nightmare (the parts for the keys not the keys) could go to material storage
- Tonics should get their own tab too, but i know, asking too much.
Also while we’re talking about storage and space, maybe, if possible make it so that the game checks our bank and storage for quartz when we interact with a Hero Challenge, because:
- Time gated stuff was your worse idea ever collectively (yes worse than releasing HoT like it was at that price);
- With keys and everything else we need to carry around and you refuse to create more efficient means of storage we already have way too much stuff to carry around with us and on shared slots to be adding QUARTZ to the list;
- When you created that sorry idea you had 1 use for charged quartz, now there’s a couple more items that require it, and its Account bound which inflates those items disproportionately to their actual value simply because its so god kitten complicated to get those charged ones.

I’d like a slot for putting spare skritt in.

Indigo Mushrooms and their MilkThis is getting ridiculous at this point. Seriously people. Just because it takes up space in your inventory does not mean it is a crafting material. It does not mean it belongs in mat storage.
I actually asked for a lot of things that I suspect will not make it into material storage. However, if I don’t ask, they will certainly not make it into mat storage. So, if the update to mat storage comes and only a fifth of my list makes it, I won’t be upset. I’d be annoyed if doubloons, unidentified dyes and the like don’t make it, though. Heck, I’d love it if all the food I’ve gotten for Halloween could not use space in my storage. But I’m pretty sure it’s out of the question, so I didn’t even mention it.
Actually, for the lockpicks and keys (including black lion keys), I’d love a key-ring functionality. Not sure if it’s doable, but I’d sure appreciate it.
I like the “buy mat storage-type slots for any item” (or restrict it to some types of items) idea. Pretty sure it won’t make it this round too.
I know not everyone will react like I will, but that’s on them. We should all remember that devs ask for our opinions, but they aren’t obligated to fulfill our every request. They’re asking because they want to be sure they didn’t forget anything or didn’t appreciate the need correctly for some items (either way: they might have overestimated the need or underestimated it). They might also ask because they want to know what will give the community the best bang for their buck out of an already exhaustive list of what they are prepared to send to mat storage. They may not be looking for new ideas at all as their list is done (though they might add an item or two if the demand is there) but really just a sense of the priority order.
Amalgamated Gemstones, petrified wood and bloodstone rubies, +1 agony infusions and lesser/vision crystals would be wonderful.
I agree with the scribing stuff, too. I’ve actually put off learning scribing because I can’t store the materials and I’d rather sell them than clog up my bank/inventory. If scribing storage was included, I’d actually DO it.
Tbh, I’d really rather not have a ton of slots added, just practical ones. Every extra slot is one I have to wade through while looking for something. So crafting materials that only have ONE use, like the box of funs for the legendary, I don’t need slots for. Yes, I’ll toss them on a lesser used alt, but I’d rather not scroll through them when I rarely use them. And once you add those, you need to add dyes for the legendary staff, etc.
Just my two cents…I’d appreciate a tab on the equipment panel for endless tonics as much as better storage for materials. They’re bound once you use them anyway…so why not do them like the mini-pets and give me THOSE bank spaces back? Plus, then I’d have a great list of what’s available.
(edited by Ivraie.9478)
I would genuinely love to see a potions cupboard. I have so many endless tonics and such that I love to use to spice things up or make people laugh or smile but they take up SOOO much inventory space. Things like Endless Monkey King tonic and the like. I wouldn’t care about having to go to my bank to pick them up but it would be really cool to even have them work like the minis or finishers. I know it’s a lot to ask and maybe not quite what you guys are looking for input wise but even if we went to the bank to pick them up it would be cool to have a place to store them and give people who like to use them a place to keep extras and such. In fact, during Wintersday two years ago, a group of my guildies and I went and got a TON of plush griffon tonics and got the matching mini and ran around as a horde of griffons, doing jumping puzzles and such. Another thing that might be neat to add is a pantry of sorts, a place to store finished products of food (Like pumpkin cookies, omnom berry bars, steak and asparagus, ect), maintenance oils, sharpening stones and the like.
what i would want is:
- Agony infusions (1,3,6,[9])

(edited by Nevra.5489)
I hope you encourage other teams to take a look at this thread. There are some interesting suggestions and unique concepts presented here. We appreciate your effort and understand that some of this is overboard but suggestion threads like this often become a “throw everything at the wall and see what sticks”.
A move to consolidate items in mass can significantly affect some sales so our expectations shouldn’t be super high. The game practically throws everything to us we need to outfit more characters simply by playing, so shouldn’t we expect to need more bags and slots and storage?
What I’m saying is whatever creates more space will help and be appreciated, even if it isn’t everything that everyone came up with that might fit everyone’s definition of what might qualify.
Material storage concerns are a result of a deeper issue with GW2 loot which could be resolved in a far better way.
Loot in GW2 is mostly salvagable junk, reroll items (bags), and good things. The first two catagories border on an annoyance.
Inventory management can be a relaxing side loop when done properly, but GW2 takes it to an extreme. Rather than removing loot and concentrating on high-end specialized drops (the solution Diablo 3 implemented) a UI should be added that removes the needless busywork section of the loot management loop.
Currently players receive items up to a point where they either get a full inventory, or finish the activity.
Their choices are then- search the inventory for greens or rares that should be listed on the trading post → list them → then do a right click salvage all on their copper fed and a right click salvage all on their mystic or silver fed → deposit to bank → list any materials that are already full in materials storage. Within that process they can either save or open bags immediately, but the resulting items from those bags are then treated the same.
This process is horrible. It feels like riffling through trash, and requires players to do busywork rather than seeing and appreciating the fruits of their labors.
The process can be modified in many different ways to achieve the same result, but the following is the best I can conjure:
Player logs in for first time after patch with new feature.
Goes out to do content.
Get’s dozens of items, including: A green lvl 80 Druid’s Staff of the Forest of Power. This item will never ever be useful to that player, they will receive hundreds of them throughout their play time and the only difference between it and a random amount of elder wood is the chore of running it through the copper fed.
Instead the player can now right click that item and select ‘Add to auto salvage’.
Now when the next green lvl 80 Druid’s Staff of the Forest of Power drops it goes through the client side event to recognize an item receipt, and gets automatically salvaged.
The result of the salvage is attempted to be deposited to materials storage.
If the flagged item is a bag then it’s auto-opened.
If opened items enter the overflow queue then access whether queued items are in the autosalvage list (or can be deposited in materials storage) before halting further openings.
Put Bloodstone Dust, Emp Shards, in to currency wallet, with a vendor put in game to convert the item to a physical version for use in recipies.
I’d like to see added to the bank(or wallet):
doubloons, jorbreakers, silky sand, mystic crystals, icy runestones, philosophers stones, petrified wood, amalgamated gemstones, baubles, bauble bubbles, blood rubies, chak eggs, tenebrous crystals, vision crystals(both kinds), all basic scribing materials, reclaimed metal plates, and all "new currencies" that have come with HoT.
I’d like to see added to the wallet:
BL claim tickets and scraps, all manner of keys, passes, entrance tickets, and circus vouchers.
One last thing...please please please stop giving us so many tomes of knowledge...especially in BL chests, give us somewhere to store them, and/or give us something good to do with them. Also, we need something to use the Experience scrolls on...there’s no way I’m making 30 characters to level to 80...
(edited by Doll Mistress.9267)
All crafting materials, including things like gifts of exploration, unidentified dyes, doubloons, amalgamated gemstones, etc.
Boosters would be a plus to add to the material storage, as well as experience scrolls or writs, tomes of knowledge, and black lion chests.
Another idea would be holiday or event items such as Super Adventure box baubles, Mystical cogs, Tonics, festival tokens, etc.
And a side note: it would be great if things that I’ve purchased off the trade or earned like the guild kite, magic carpet, bouquet of roses, red lantern, selfless potion, hot air balloon souvenir, how to dance, Musical harp, flute, etc., were all accessible from the wardrobe or hero panel. I don’t use these often as they are usually in my bank. It would be nice to easily access them as you would an outfit.
Thanks for working to expand the material storage, that’s excellent news. Even just adding all the scribe crafting materials will be a huge help!
I would like to see space for all those boosters, although perhaps putting them in the wallet would be a better option. Carrying them all takes far too much space but the chances are you won’t have the one you want to use with you.
I find it funny how people are talking about boosters taking up so much space when as far as I can tell, you SHOULD only have 8 boosters (maybe 9 if you keep the karma ones). If you have more than that then why are you not using the boost enhancement powders to convert them to the Enchanted Combat/Reward Boosts? I mean 8 really is not much to require a special set of slots, especially with the option of shared inventory slots.
Also, many of these suggestions are just going to be ignored as Lindsay form Anet said right from the start of this post because they do not follow the heart of the matter. This is for MATERIALS and maybe trophies only. Anything you suggest that is not one of these things (like boosters) really is pointless and just clogs up the post.
Ok folks, this has been a very productive conversation and I would like to thank you all for participating! Our EU folks have sent me the top list for EU players and I have pulled down all the suggestions in this thread as of right now. I still need to pour through the Reddit thread suggestions as well, but my spread sheet is already up around 3k lines (includes duplicate suggestions) just from this thread and it is clear that there is a large consensus on many items. Since I am primarily leading the Living World teams, which is a fast paced and high energy project, with this as a side project it’s going to take me at least a couple weeks to fully sort through all the suggestions and come up with a plan. As of this moment, consider this thread closed and once I have completed my work, I’ll kick off a new thread with the results.

Excellent. Thanks for the update.
Every key for every chest would be great.
Can you do with tonics what you do with miniatures and make them a tab option that lists all available? One for limited and another one for endless tonics.
As I went through my bank tabs:
auric dust
obsidian shards
blade shards

Auric dust and obsidian shards do already go into storage. You might have more than your max capacity, be that 250 or 2000. Blade shards have been confirmed to get into mats storage. So you’re covered!
Hey everyone. As Linsey mentioned, this thread is now closed. She will update everyone with more information soon.
